How do I know when it's maxed?

Focus used to boost exp gain from activities. When you take loot, caught fish, gather crop you gain 'X' exp, if you have focus than you will get " X + (X*Multiplier) " if I am not mistaken. Multiplier must be 50% at start and you can upgrade it to 100% in shrine(do quests to understand where...and year MaxFocus and Multiplier as message before mine)

I just did my first cooking party this weekend! I did a non ingredient role. At first it was so hectic because I had trouble getting to the plot and then my chat wasn’t working so I couldn’t talk to figure out what to do. But finally it worked. I didn’t realize cooking celebration cakes took so much focus! My focus was running out like every two rounds, and of course I had just run out of food before randomly deciding to join the party last minute. I ate two cakes before I gave up trying to keep up focus. So my leveling was s little slower I guess but I still went up like 3 levels. I definitely need to do another one soon.

if you're above level 10 in any skill you can complete weekly achievements to get skill medals that you can spend in a skill shop (it's separate for every skill)

In simple - you need to collect same cards. 3 cards of one picture or 3 same color but all different pictures. Winer = 3 sets of 3 cards. Draw card from center or from those which was drop by others. Change one of your card to that one or drop it.

The flip mechanic can be a little confusing; it's only briefly mentioned in the tutorial that pops up the first time you try it, so a lot of folks don't catch that you're supposed to hold down the button until the circles line up, then release.

I wonder if PaliaParty.app would be useful in this case? You can create a party and choose the recipe, and it will display a flowchart breaking it down by role and station count. It's accurate for most recipes, but you should probably cross-check with the wiki and in-game, as some of the newer recipes have some data entry errors.

The oysters are like any other forageable, where they persist for a little while for other players after being gathered, but then disappear. As with most common-tier gatherables, their timer is quite short, perhaps a minute? 30 seconds? So if there is someone else gathering on the beach just ahead of you, they might despawn before you reach them.

Is there something in the works to consolidate the random different pricing for cooked items? The different gold values cause new stacks to happen which is a huge pain when trying to feed stacks to worm farms. Because I can only do one type of stack at a time even though they're all the same dish. I understand the star vs non-star, but when there are multiple starred stacks and multiple unstarred stacks.... It's makes this more involved than it should be.

The fastest are the grilled foods, especially if you set up several campfires; I have 4 in a circle and it cuts the crafting time down to 5 seconds because you just rotate XD

That's 20 base EXP per, plus whatever your focus bonus is, assuming you keep yourself fed

For meat and fish, it increases the value of the items if it turns out starred, too, and doesn't lose value otherwise, so if you're already hunting and/or fishing, it's a good way to increase your income from those while getting cooking EXP

They also require no other materials besides the 2 meat or 2 fish

The other option is to join cooking parties

For those, you get the entire EXP for the dish for a fraction of the ingredients; the only thing is that it is more effort/takes a little longer. Faster than cooking it all yourself, though.

When choosing a dish, the EXP is based on the length of the time (in seconds) alloted to cook the dish, minus 20 seconds.

So, for example, Steak Dinner has a timer of 2 minutes 20 seconds:

Minus 20 seconds is 2 minutes, so 120 seconds = 120 base EXP (plus your focus bonus, if you have focus in your bar) every time you cook the recipe.

A lot of the other tables on this page will likely need updating due to the changes from 0.180, but the cooking one is still valid: https://palia.wiki.gg/wiki/Experience#Cooking

Cake parties can be a lot of EXP and a good way to earn gold; as a new player, you can bring the sweet leaf, or sign up to do one of the no-ingredient roles. Check out #1143270926394335282 to find parties folks have posted.

However, they're not quite as grindable since you have to specifically sign up, wait for them to make/wait for the scheduled time, and of course go forage the stuff in the first place.

So you've got options :)

the steps I personally do: mix sweetleaf, make cake batter, put cake batter in oven. mix another sweetleaf, (if you're confident in your timing, make the frosting too), then take cake out of oven. make frosting. do all the steps at the prep counter. then the fruit drizzle at the stove. add all ingredients to oven.

Steak Dinner, for me. 225/337 focus, which fits pretty flexibly in the focus bar so I can top up when I think about it instead of just when I run all the way out (which wastes bonus EXP). Takes few ingredients (including only wheat from the garden), so doesn't require keeping a bunch of different things on hand, is quite efficient in terms of focus per opportunity cost, easy enough to cook solo but also accommodates a small group, and best of all: only one chopping step in the whole darn thing 😂

It does empty quick, yeah, which is also why I get antsy if I notice my bar is halfway depleted but I can't eat yet 😩

Also, I've learned the hard way that even though 250/375 sounds like it would fit neatly into the bar, in reality there's often some random small amount left and there is a lot of waste as a result. Especially if it's mostly 375 starred, which is just... awkward, in the field XD

I've found that 412 food can be handy, though. It's big enough to be a good chunk, but also will fit into the bar twice in lots of cases; these days I carry a mix of stuffed cabbage rolls (because my friends group-cook them frequently) and steak dinner, plus either unstarred steak dinner or whatever 250 food I can scrounge up. (412 + 337 = 749 lol)

The value of a dish is determined by the formula
Rounddown(Sum of base sell values of all ingredients * 0.375)
and if the dish turns out starred, then it's the above value times 1.5, rounded down again. Of course, each recipe (other than campfire recipes) makes 3 of the dish (usually, unless you miss a step).

The difficulty with cooking solo for profit comes in with store-bought ingredients, like the vinegar needed for poke. Although it costs 200g to buy at the General Store, its sell value is half that at 100g. So, in the above formula, for poke, the vinegar contributes 100g. The same is true for all the other store-bought-only ingredients.

Also, starred ingredients contribute only their BASE (unstarred) sell value to the formula, and do not guarantee a starred result. The base sell value of blue spotted rays is 445g.

That's based on opportunity cost by the way — i.e., "what if I made this corn and onion into pickles instead, and just put the fish in the sell bin, and didn't buy the vinegar to start with?"

lock meaning put in the lockbox (if you don't have one already I think you can buy the recipe from tish), when you cook with people it always first takes from your inventory than your storage, so if you have the ingredient in storage it can use it. when it's in the lockbox it can't be used. it's to make sure you don't accidentally do another person's step

you could but it often says what you should lock, might be helpful to lock the ingredients used in the same station. I mostly cook with one-two other people at a time and don't do cake parties that much so I can't really answer about specific ingredients you should lock

It's only the station used to start the recipe that holds the dish during assembly and can't be used for prep steps

So if a dish starts at the oven but has a baking step for an ingredient, like bacon, you need a second oven; starts at stove and needs you to cook rice separately, needs a second stove (the stoves only have one burner each, lol)

Yes, the profit is more using all 3 apples, the price starts to dwindle when you start using different combinations of fruit that is not all apples -- conclusion, using 3 apples, starred apples are even better for the best profit

The more common focus food recipes tend not to have very complex/very many steps, so they only take a few people - maybe that's it? Additionally, if you click or interact with the "any fish" (or other ingredient selector, in other recipes) you can also choose which one to cook. If it requires multiple you have to have them all in the same type and quality in order to choose them, though. Like grilled fish requires 2 fish, and you have 1 mudminnow, 1 calico koi, and one giant goldfish, and you want to grill the mudminnow and koi together, you couldn't use the selector to choose them.

You would have to either lockbox the goldfish or put the minnow and koi in your inventory (backpack) and goldfish in storage

3-apple starred cakes gain 22g (+8%) per cake in either regular or glow worm farm, but since they give 76 QualityUp fertilizer per cake, the farm can only process a few cakes before it stalls. So they will need babysitting if you want to get through a whole party's worth of cakes. There are better ways to get glow worms if you need them, imo. Unstarred cakes gain 22g (+12%) in a worm farm or 17g (+9%) in a glow worm farm, same problem with the babysitting.

In my opinion, there are better things to put in a glow worm farm that can run for a full hopper without stalling. But I tend to prioritize uptime and consistency as well as value added per time, rather than gross output.

Eligible recipe steps are ONLY: starting the recipe, any activity that involves a minigame (stir, chop, roll), and taking things OUT of the oven. Adding ingredients or putting things IN the oven doesn't count, according to testing someone shared elsewhere.

When you consider the focus granted compared to the opportunity cost of the ingredients (i.e., "what if I turned this tomato into pickled tomatoes and sold it instead?"/"what if I didn't buy this cooking oil and used the gold for something else?"), the top 5 for efficiency are:

• Steak Dinner (225/337)
• Meaty Stir Fry (250/375)
• Spicy Stir Fry (325/487)
• Pan Fried Dumplings (250/375, very easy recipe)
• Stuffed Cabbage Rolls (275/412)
  Also good:
• Cream of Tomato Soup (275/412)

(I personally don't like carrying food that gives more than half my focus bar, as it means the window in which I can eat before I run out is quite narrow. I'd rather carry a full stack with me and eat more often/whenever I remember, rather than risk losing bonus EXP to the bloop bloop clunk "...oops." XD)
Steak Dinner also has the advantage of requiring only wheat from the garden, freeing up more garden tiles for cash crops.

They all give large-to-enormous amounts of focus. Starred muujin bahari and celebration cakes give more than the max focus bar. Some folks enjoy being able to eat one thing and fill up.

i usually go for stuffed cabbage rolls but it also depends on what I've been doing, for example when I've been fishing a lot I switched to bouillabaisse for a bit because I had the ingredients

Of dishes that give >500 focus if starred, the order of efficiency (purely in terms of focus per opportunity cost) for solo cooking is:

• Chili OIl Dumplings (350/525) - these are actually #9 on the list overall, so not too bad as far as it goes
• Rice Cake Stir Fry (475/712) - #10 overall
• Bouillabaisse (350/525) - #11 overall
• Chapaa Masala (525/787) - requires dari clove, #19
• Petit Fives (400/600) - #25

(out of a list of 51 recipes)

But yeah, everybody's way of reckoning things is a little different, plus there's the fun-to-cook factor and the "what do I actually WANT to eat all the time" factor

not all roles have an ingredient! so you could start at the ovens or the ones who spread the jam to get the idea of a cake party and then move onto ingredients! that's what i did

If your role requires an ingredient you will bring whatever x amount of the ingredient(s) you signed up for. Some exceptions: some roles are "free roles" that don't require an investment of resources/ingredients. You just click and play the cooking mini game for free. The other exception is if the host clarifies that there will be a rotation of roles, you will need multiple ingredients because you are rotating throughout the different roles. This normally only happens in longer parties (300+).

No shame in the free roles (just in case my original post gave off that vibe), people normally lock them anyways until the investing roles are filled to combat freeloaders and make sure the "harder" roles are filled; or people are normally nice to avoid them for newer folks who are unable to provide a large sum or difficult to get ingredients. So if you're able to help out with the "harder" roles go ahead, but if you are only able to get a free role right now no shame in it at all, everyone starts somewhere! Otherwise, the fastest way is to grab a buzzy jar or two and head to Bahari. Alternatively, run laps in Mirror Fields and (if you are hearing) keep your ears peeled for firebreathing dragonflies

It means that if you are responsible for, e.g., chopping spice sprouts, you should put your apples and wheat in your lockbox (safe storage) or otherwise make it so you can't accidentally chop apples or roll dough. It's to avoid mistakes due to how the UI jumps around when someone else starts or finishes a minigame.

If you don't have enough room in your lockbox for all of your apples and wheat, you can also put them in a crafter; like putting all your apples in preserve jars, even if you don't intend to let them run, and your wheat in a seed collector; or either of them in (glow) worm farms. You can stall the crafter by filling up the output bin, too, if you want, for extra insurance.

But realistically no one is able to really check your experience or level so i wouldn't worry too much about it. If you sign up for an advanced or speedy party just make sure you're abiding by the hosts rules and expectations by paying attention and being as fast as you can.

Easiest way is imo to ask people on your server when you are at home if they are interested in making a specific dish with you. I usually say what dish I'm making, how many rounds I plan to cook, and what roles are available.

I found a recipe profit calculator, and the sell price of the ingredients for celebration cake is only 168, and you make 816(Starred) or 606(regular) if you sell all 3

As for Tomatoes they do sell for 51 for starred preserves each. so its also a good profit.
