if you do get close enough to them for them to clone, shot one of the clones with the dispel and it will stun the original and get rid of the clones so you can easily kill it

I know this is from a while ago but I can confirm - partied with 2 others and we got a double plush drop, all three of us. So it is possible, just very rare!

Essentially how it works - you get the original RNG roll for a plush drop, and then you have the roll for the double loot drop. Very rarely, you get plush drop on a double loot drop and voila! We confirmed it works with hunting but I imagine it works just the same with insects.

We don't currently have the resources to oversee and moderate voice channels at the moment, but I can absolutely understand your issue!! I'll make sure to take note for the team because I know some players have suggested voice channels before, but yeah we just wanna make sure we have what we need to keep players safe.

As per rules though, we gotta keep the convos in English as much as possible.

like with most rare bugs - you might be lucky and it'll appear but it's very possible it won't

with all the rare and epic ones other than maybe the moth I'd say it might be a better idea to server hop (so go between maps to change server you're on when you don't see the bug you need there)

I don't think there's a secret, I just hunt a lot of insects. I'm at level 186 in bug hunting. I also accumulate a lot of smoke candles and buzzy jars and love hunting for Rainbows at 3am in Pulsewater.

fair enough. I find targeted bug hunting intimidating ig. so much variance. fishing is at least just a numbers game, if you sit at the right place at the right time with the right bait, you will eventually get the thing. Bugs feel way harder to even find if they aren't super common.

I feel like it's the opposite haha. It seems too easy for a rare + bug to spawn somewhere where you aren't or just get scared off before you can get it. Fish are always in the same places at the same times with the same bait, you just gotta have patience.

that's fair. I think if I wasn't so set on building an aquarium on my lot, I maybe would have found the fishing more boring but every time I got a new fish it was a little progress towards my goal.

Thats the other thing ig. You know if you fish at the right spot, you'll get a ⭐ quality fish. With bugs it doesn't seem like there's a way to influence that at all?

my main motivation for bug hunting (aside from bundles) would be to make a little bug zoo, but needing them at ⭐ quality feels impossible haha

the worst ones for me to get starred were the gossamer moth because it took about 60 of them before I got the star one and the cerulean cocada I got last because I feel like they're not that easy to find

but most bugs I got around 20-30 before getting the star version

It's really about practice. Catch a lot of common butterflies and night moths. Then move on to Bahari crabs. Your tools get better as you level up as well.

They are those magic muujin dogs. They are invisible most of the time. If you manage to tag it with a dispel arrow you can see them for awhile. I would love it if they gave us various icons for the different animals, IE. dog heads, deer heads etc. It would save so much time. No you can't get them out of the ground, I wish we could lol.

I found out if you use smoke candles while cutting or mining, the bugs don't run away. I got 4 Amber beetles in a couple Palian days that way.

If you don't spook it, it's easy to wait for someone. And yes, some will eventually disappear because of the time of day changing, but other than that you just maintain a distance so you don't spook it. Deer and muujin are also easy to wait for. Like DuhSacpe said, you can scared muujin into trees and they just sit there, and deer you can just watch from a distance. If it runs, you follow it. Pretty simple.

The chance of someone doing something else passing by is huge and you will end up losing your hunt. I think it's unlikely that this would work and I believe it's not rude to shoot anything even if someone is looking at it. I wait for the person to get a shot, yes, before finishing, but waiting for the person to start shooting, then it's a lot of exaggeration of courtesy

The chance is always there, yeah, I never said it wasn't. But again, for hunting it's still easy. If someone runs by and scares the muujin/deer you were hunting, you can just follow it. Bugs are more difficult, and I never said other people had to wait. I was meaning that as a party, you can wait for someone to show up if you don't spook the bug. But if I run up on an rare bug that isn't spooked and someone else is there first, and it looks like they're waiting, I wait. I never said everyone has to do it that way. You can bet I'm bombing that thing as soon as it spooks or someone else starts throwing at it.

And if someone kills your hunt, there's still plenty more.

100% I can barely see the jewelwing, often I find it by running into it and hearing it get spook and then throw bombs everywhere hoping to hit or I find and follow it using buzzy jar. I can't tell you the amount of time I've walked in an ancient beetle cause I couldn't see it and then wasn't able to catch it cause aiming on switch sucks

I've only heard of the rainbow tipped butterfly spawning at groves, and it's usually star rated. You also have to be the first person there before someone else catches it or scares it off. It won't spawn if you drop a honey lure though.

yeah all of them are pretty difficult I think all of those are the kind that'll only have one spawn per in game day, and are unfortunately not guaranteed to be starred.

All I know that for each of them is clear out the areas they spawn in, by scaring away all beetles and crickets, a few minutes before the time changes to the time they spawn, pop a buzzy jar and hope for the best.

rainbow tipped is probably the hardest because they have the largest spawn range, though Jewelwing, spotted mantis, and raspberry beetle are confined to smaller specific areas, so they're not AS BAD as the butterfly.

Also had a random thought, whenever the game updates with new zones (which will likely include new fish,bugs, and animals) I feel like a dobsonfly (using the male to base the model off of) would be an interesting bug to add. Cuz last night I had a dobsonfly get in my house, and thosethings are freaky looking bugs, would love to see them added to the game

a lot are heavily based off real bugs

like the garden mantis, and leafstalker mantis look to be based of your typical green praying mantis.

but there's not really any real mantis like the fairy mantis for example. Fairy mantis could likely have taken inspiration from how many mantids have brightly colored patterns on their wings, and they just went with that and made the whole thing a colorful little guy.
