How does server hopping work? What’s the benefits? Late to gaming and 1st time playing a server game, I’ve heard ppl mention it a few times but what’s the purpose?

things like bugs generate separately on each server, if you go between maps you change server (so for example going between kilima and bahari). the way i did it with the rainbow is between 3am game time and about 9-10am game time i'd run where they spawn with buzzy jar active, catch whatever it showed me, teleport to kilima and back to bahari and do it again
the later it is game time the more likely someone already caught it or spooked it so if it's later it's less likely for the ones that spawned at 3am to still be there so around 10am i'd either do a lure or move on to other things

I got the ancient amber beetle after my first tree! My advice is to head toward Windy Ruins and cut down all of the orange leaved trees. Make sure they are medium to large, and bam!

they spawn during the day! so from 3 am to 6 pm. since there are a lot of bugs (the moths) that spawn at night, when you pop the buzzy at 3 am, all of the moths despawn and it makes room for new potentially epic bug spawns

best time generally to look and get most value out of buzz jars is 3 - 6 am

noo jewelwing starred was the easiest bug i can catch in this game! climb above pavel mines and stand on the path that leads into the top little section of the mine. exit game. reload and you'll be in the same spot and a new jewel wing will likely be spawned there, run around and look for it. if not starred, either catch it and repeat steps or just don't catch and repeat steps. go back to the path. exit game, reload and look for the jewelwing again. up there is the only spot it spawns!

they have a bit of white and blue on them and teleport if you get near
Some people find it easier to hunt them in groups, I don't really like doing that so o use the hunter's horn (it shows this and magical mujin) and dispell arrows
I shoot, wait for it to teleport, shoot again and do that until it's dead

if you want to hunt with people it's often called glambi or disco deer or something similar in chat, some people call them out if they see them (or you can call it out and maybe someone will want to hunt with you)

i did 1 honey lure right here at 6am and i caught 5 non starred dusk and 2 starred dusk! i swear by it! just kill as many common butterflies as possible and run around so the crickets get scared and you should see at least a couple duskwings!!

I think I dropped mine in the middle of C8, just that field. I did see a starred rainbow during that lure but couldn't catch it. Your best bet is to be in that area at 3 am, just run around killing common blues and see if you can see one. That's been easier for me for the rainbow than using a honey lure

so I start near the hill by outskirts, run down to the top of the fs ruins, up to thorny and then east to the cliff nw of statue, and finally down to proudhorn
idk if this will help anyone but that's my glambi hunting path

you can place a waypoint, say at stables, and see where 200m away is so you know how close you need to get to see certain parts of the map. just remember that someone could tag the deer and force it to the beach or a corner it wouldn't normally be

I am looking for the ancient Amber Beetle as well and i was wondering - do they not get detected from the buzzy jar? Wiki and description stating its rare bugs and this one is an epic.
Also would a honey lure work on them, i dont have that much resources and dont want to waste a lure.

I know they can be found on the ground in north bahari but I don't know if I have ever found one that way. I find them most often when cutting down trees, but the spawn rate is still pretty low. When the grove appears, try and be the first one to find it. Every grove has some sort of special bug or magic animal. I have found a few this way but they can come from honey lures. You can drop them at groves to sometimes have better luck I think (that is how I found my gold star one!)

you can also set honey lures at groves in north bahari and they may spawn that way if I remember correctly

if you don't care what you're catching i'd say the bahari coast might be a good place, there's a bunch of crabs there and they're easy to catch

also during the night near stables in bahari there's usually a bunch of lunar fairy moths and use them for buzzy jars (if you already have the recipe unlocked)

and the pulsewater region always, there's a few rare bugs that spawn in that region

This is funny, I started from the beginning again, and on the first day, I randomly caught a raspberry beetle and a star-level Golden Glory Bee with the makeshift belt. The next day, I caught a Duskwing butterfly when I was walking by the dragon shrine. On the third day, I caught a radiant sunfish. I was thinking that I should go and try to catch a unicorn fish today (the 4th day) once I have access to glow worms.

for starred bugs, they can be placed and are put in a terrarium of their own. try it out yourself. starred bugs have sparkles around them in the wild for normal bugs, you can collect them to give to villagers (some request/like them) or just sell them. some quests and bundles in the game require certain bugs, so i recommend keeping a few of each in your storage

all of them give xp, but the common bugs give very little. i recommend increasing your focus bonus at the shrine (75% is good for now) and catching rare or uncommon bugs

So I came across a proudhorn stuck in a cliff, near Tamala's. Sometimes I've been able to kill them if they clip through, but no luck. Then I had the idea to move far enough away that the LOD for the cliff would be lower. It worked, I was able to kill it from a distance, then move in and loot it through the wall. And it dropped the Proudhorn Sernuk Plush!

I just kept backing up until I could hit it. Far enough that the arrows started to drop down a bit from distance, so I had to aim up a little. Up close, just the antlers would stick out. It was far enough away that I couldn't see them anymore, I aimed for the same spot on the cliff where I saw the antlers. Not sure if it was the lower level of detail, or maybe a larger hitbox from further away. Either way, I landed two hits in a row, which was enough to finish it. The loot was just inside the cliff wall, but close enough that I could still grab it.

I found all 3 of mine at the Mirror Fields in front of the ruins and near the bundles temple. You have to look carefully as they alert quickly and fly fast. But they are obviously red dragonflies so you won't need confuse them with anything else in that area.

I spent quite a few days collecting 10 hydrangea seeds from Duskwings. In that experience I found arriving at 3 am and running in circles scaring off ground bugs and catching the common butterflies to force respawns quickly always produced at least one Duskwing per day. Tedious? Yes. But 100% achievable. Make sure you include the east side (over the first bridge as well but before 2nd) as well.

the ones with some dark fur (elder sernuks) have more HP. they do spawn in kilima as well but more rarely. once you've levelled up your hunting and got more arrow recipes you should have an easier time killing them. recommend using slowdown (3 4 hits to kill) or iron arrows (2 3 hits to kill)

The horns make it much easier to track the proudhorn because they can teleport pretty far away. It can be very disorienting and easy to lose sight of them if you are hunting without horns.

i understand the anxiousness- but trust me, it'll go fine i was also anxious the first time i used a horn to hunt proudhorn, but a few horns later and it felt natural. it's just about getting started, which is a bit nerveracking.

i believe hunting with a group is better, since you don't have to spend as much time chasing the deer. i hunted solo though, and it was fine. the hunting horns are pretty easy/cheap to make, so i don't worry about 'wasting' them.

group is def better. another tip i like to use is if you have a few of you using hunting horns and then split up on the map, you have a higher probability of someone finding it . just call it out in party chat 🙂 on an average hunt me and my group find about 6/7 with the horn . I hope this helps

It's unlikely that you're specific game is broken and far more likely that it's just RNGesus being particularly cruel. I would definitely take a break from the plushie hunt though and switch to something else if you can. Either fishing achievements, farming, bug hunting, etc.
I swear sometimes the Desire Sensor is in cahoots with RNGesus so if you just "stop wanting it so bad" they'll back off and suddenly you'll be running through bahari and kill a sernuk on a whim and BAM, there it is XD

Even in games like the Monster Hunter series where some items have a 3-5% drop rate I still never felt like I had to grind as much for something in that game compared to the grinding we have to do for some things in this game.
Sometimes it takes maybe hours or a couple days at worst to get that elusive drop in MH, but I've never had to hard core grind for weeks to get something, especially not something as silly as a plushie for cryin' out loud.

If getting the flower seeds is the goal though it's better to just buy them from Auni, getting gold ore is a pain in the butt unless I'm willing to shell out the mining medals to buy the bars from Hodari. I'd rather use the Honey Lures for things like Rainbow butterflies which are a Huge pain in the butt to get starred versions of.

Plus you're not guaranteed a seed each time you catch a bug, so even if you get 3-5 duskwings to spawn on a honey lure you may not get any seeds from them anyway if your RNG is poor

I dunno, I got plenty of gold ore mining iron, even sold extra gold bars also got the seeds first try from someone doing a honey lure. So I don’t see it as that impossible, personally But it might be more difficult if you just started the game yeah, and easier to buy the seeds directly!

Well a lot of it is RNG, it's RNG if you'll get gold ore per med/lg iron node, it's RNG that the dusk wing will appear when you use the honey lures and it's RNG whether you'd get a seed from said duskwing when it finally does spawn.
If you've had good RNG for that stuff then that's great! I see a lot of ppl struggling for things like unicorn/ancient fish and I've got 3 starred unicorns and 2 starred ancient fish so far, and 3 regular ancients within the same 50 glow worms before. My luck doesn't make it any easier for other ppl to get it though.

Plus you can see some ppl have got like, a dozen sernuk plushies whereas others have spent thousands of arrows and days if not weeks worth of time and still haven't gotten one yet >_<

There should be a hard cap coded in that guarantees you'll get the thing you're trying to grind for eventually. Like every 500 sernuk guarantees you a plushie, or every 100 palium gets you a ruby, etc. And the counter can reset if you happen to get lucky and get the drop sooner then that.
That way even if someone's RNG is super bad they'll still know that eventually their hard work will pay off.

I'd be so much happier if I knew for sure that even if my RNG was just the worst I'd still get what I wanted eventually within a reasonable amount of resources, time and effort.

Starred ruby is the last star gem I need too I can't help but wonder if the reason they didn't make an achievement to collect all the starred stones is because they knew the ruby grind would be extremely unfair

it took me 20 levels of hunting various sernuk to finaly get a plush (from lv.13 or 14 to lv 34)
RNGesus can be merciless and test your patience. my tip is going for the low level ones first since they can be 1 shotted and you feel your doing things much faster.

It's definitely better mental health wise to just go about some of the grinding as nonchalantly as possible. I haven't buckled down on the sernuk plushie hunt yet but if I happen to walk into a field with a Bunch of basic ones spawned in then usually I'll pause whatever I was doing and whip out my bow to smite the heck out of the lot of them in the mild hope that maybe I'll get lucky XD

Same thing for the rainbow butterfly, I've got plenty of the regular ones but I still need a starred one, so I'll join on someone's lure if I see them doing one, or if I happen to be in pulsewater around 3am then I'll either run around checking the usual spots or pop a buzzy jar and spent 15 minutes gathering a ton of silk/bugs to sell but once 10-11am ingame time comes around I'll just give up and go back to whatever I was doing before.

I felt the same way about my hunt for the starred Ruby. I wasnt extremely happy that I got my first one, but I was glad that I did get my first one. It is different for me, however because I didnt stop mining because I really like mining

Yeah it's one thing if you totally enjoy the grind, I myself find a lot of relaxation in fishing/mining, and if you're just doing it cause you enjoy the activity then that's one thing.
It just really sucks for people who don't enjoy that kind of repetitive gameplay loop and feel increasingly (rightfully so I might add) frustrated after having spent hundreds if not thousands of resources and hours if not days or even weeks of irl time trying to get something only to see people pop up in-game or in discord going "golly gee I just got the [insert target rare drop item here], and this was only my 15th sernuk/node/fishing hotspot, etc!"
Sometimes it feels like we're being unfairly punished for something we have no control over and yet even though we're working our in-game digital booties off we still get slapped across the face with someone else's good fortune. Starts to feel discouraging after a while 😮‍💨

I look at it similarly. I think of it as, if something has a 1% chance of happening then if you get it before 100 tries then you are lucky. If you get it after 100 tries then you are unlucky.

Right, but a lot of people don't have that kind of control and if the devs are trying to make this as "cozy, comfortable, relaxing and family friendly" as they seem to be, then they should put in measures to ensure that people aren't getting pistal whipped by bad RNG for weeks and weeks on end.

FF14 does an excellent job of this for their mount system, every time you do the dungeon/raid that has a chance to drop a mount you get 1 of a special currency, if you don't manage to get lucky and earn the mount for 100 of said dungeon runs then you can turn in 100 of that currency and just buy the mount. So then worst case scenario you get the mount in 100 runs at most.

I think that if they did do this, then it would make the grind less worth if because people could count on getting something earlier than they should. Plus, with the starred gems and plushies, you dont need them for anything ( at the moment ) so they would just be for people who want them, therefore they need to earn them

Maybe the first drop can be guaranteed but I dont think it should be an ongoing thing for everyone because otherwise everyone would have the most rare things

And if they did that, I would probably play a lot less because I like grinding for hard to get items

I'll have to agree to disagree on this point. The game is meant to be cozy and relaxing, and I'm totally for having to earn the things you want to a degree. But I still believe there should be some kind of limit on the amount of effort/resources someone should have to dedicate to getting the thing they want. If the repetitive gameplay loops is so boring/frustrating/resource intensive that it starts to push people in quitting or not wanting to play anymore they need to adjust something, especially since the only real game play loop the game offer thus far is almost exclusively RNG based.

Besides nothing in this game that you earn is anything But decor/cosmetic.

Modern day deer hunting isn't really like how people used to do it. Sport hunting has so many rules and regulations that you basically have to hope a deer randomly wanders to where you are to hunt them. In hunter gatherer societies the goal is to down animals by whatever means necessary, which could include baiting, trapping, corralling, and group hunting
