The dispel also doesn't last indefinitely, so you probably want to stay on dispelling arrows unless you're really fast at switching ammo. or if you're lazy like me

Ignore that first photo. Majis Hollow is where the star spotted mantis and duskwing spawned at with a honey lure around 3pm.

Attached is where I found the gossamer moth around 6pm.

Found these other bugs along the way in kilima except the rainbow butterfly.

ope sorry!! Yes, I popped them at 3am and on the buzzy tracker they look like any other rare+ bug. The tracker only shows you the icon like a butterfly for any rare+ bug. But the trick is if you pop the buzzy jar just before the time the butterflies spawn, you will know it is the very likely the butterfly when the indicator shows up on your compass right at the time of spawn.

if you have access to them, slow arrows a lot of them. they will help slow the deer down before it can teleport away and it will keep slowing down to where it won't be able to move very well as long as you can pull off the hit

Dispel arrows will disable their magic and then just keep shooting it. If it does get away after a dispel hit it will only jump once or twice, then settle back down which is easy to track. Plus use a hunters horn, it will track it for you

So, they are near dragon's shrine. They spawn from 3:00am to 6:00pm. Buzzy jars don't work for them, cause they are uncommon, not epic or rare. You just have to scare away every other insect in the area and catch normal butterflies cause they don't get scared. And basically you run like and idiot for hours 🫠🫠 also, using lure helped me a lot. I had some moments where I have catched 7+ butterflies with only one lure. For me, the best time for it is 4:20 am (im not joking)

They spawn in many places near dragon's shrine (this is the place near entrance to Bahari, where Chayne goes everyday).

I so wish Palia had an offline solo mode, I've seen the Starred Rainbow Butterfly 3 times now,
2 times, someone else caught it before I could get there.
And once someone spooked it and it vanished as I approached.

I have changed my tactics because of this.
Find a central high spot at 11:55 and listen.
Headphones will allow you to get the direction the sound of the grove is coming from.
Jump down and fly straight to it, smokebomb ready.
Approach with caution, keep your eyes peeled for bugs, theres a very high chance of a high ranking bug in a grove !
Catch it and the call out the grove to public.

I know others might want to catch the bug too, but chances are high that people will come in and disturb the bugs when you call out the grove first, before catching the bug.

Yeah, I've noticed spitfires in particular are very buggy. It's like they're stuck on the tree for a while and then when the game catches up on where they "should" be they just teleport there

I just paint them with smoke. If the bug teleports off the tree, it sometimes eats one of those bombs and you can freeze/locate them for follow-up.

Buzzy Jars find Spitfires all the time if you want to try again. I've been using tons of Jars to find a Rainbow Wing. I'm convinced those butterflies just don't exist..

Tree bugs are so unpredictable. The ones from mining like to immediately run underground sometimes too. 😣

Ye, one of the major problems with bug hunting right now is that if you aren't actively bug-hunting it's easy to just... not see the super rare shiny thing over there. But you just scared it off and nobody's gonna see it for another 8 hours.

Also, I think it's sort of amusing that my last uncaught Star bugs are things like Fairy Mantis and Jewelwing Dragonfly and other obviously rare things
And then, somehow, the green bahari lantern bug thingy.

I hunt solo in 2 spots where they are stuck and can't escape (hill/cliff) I start off with the fine arrows to take down the regular ones. I focus on the regular ones until all the trees are cut down. Once all the regular muujin are done and no more trees I switch to slowdown arrow for the invisible ones. This way I can see the trail they leave and they can't escape , just run around that area. I'm guaranteed to get that invisible one. I've been able to get a few starred blue bristle manes solo this way.

Honestly i got it by going to flow tree groves which often, but not every time, have the special muujin in one of the trees. I go and tap all the trees while we're waiting for folks so i get the loot when it's chopped, then when they're chopping i have a bow with dispell arrows aimed at each tree they chop in case a muujin is there. If they notice you hunting one they also tend to help out. Then when it's over i go and pick up all the flow wood drops.

To get silk thread to make silk in the loom, there are two ways, both require you to be in Bahari Bay. First way is to obtain Buzzy Jars if you can, and at 3am server time, activate the jar and track and catch every bug it shows. You can do this as many times as you want, but the best time is always when the natural respawns are scheduled to occur. The second option just requires you to mine all the stone, iron and palium you can find in Bahari Bay (all around the edges of the cliffs, top and bottom). If a centipede spawns from the mine, catch it, it's a rare and it will give you silk thread. As a side note, as you are moving around the map, pick the sweet leaf, a bug may spawn from that too and give you silk.

there is a difference between star quality and rarity though; any bug can be found with a star, but they are less common, yes. The rarity though, as in terms of common-uncommon-rare-epic and all the others in the middle, is just something else, and you can figure the rarity by the color of the description tab that pops up with info about the bug when you check it in your inv. Mind that though despite the rarity assigned by the game, some bugs are harder to spawn than the others, which is why some of us keep getting "epic" mantis instead of "uncommon" butterfly

Finally found my first today! It was around plainswater. I caught loads of bugs in the area and eventually got one. They fly fast and rarely spawn.

Increase your focus bonus, I don’t think there is any buffs like fishing. If you are below level 10 hunt around Kilima since you can one shot chapa with lower grade arrows.

Buggy jars or get the bugs from mining, they should give you more EXP. But when I was below lvl 10 I focused on the easier to catch commons at first.

Does it actually make a difference? I tried that and came to the conclusion that either headshots work and I'm just bad at them, or they don't and I keep happening to get a second shot on the same deer

I had more success trying to chase them down and get a second shot deliberately

They have a singular hitbox, no headshots required. They have a set amount of health and the various arrow types do different damages. Chappa will run off and burrow if you don't kill them but sernuks will calm down after a bit and go back to grazing but keep the low health. The muujin like to climb trees and will regenerate health while in a tree. The third epic version of each also has an additional mechanic to learn.

I hunt the sernuk by following them
Sometimes I can hit them twice in seconds with the iron arrow and follow them and then hit them once again to get the loot
chappas and muujin(less arrows) i will have to hit twice them fast or they will disappear so its defintely easier with sernuk as they are the only ones who don't dissapear although you have to hit them 3 times
muujin also has a hitting period where they will look up at the tree for a few seconds and you can hit them then

So go over to bahari and if Ur not very aware of the map keep looking at the map to make sure u stay south and ull find some soon ❤️

Mujins are most prominent in North Bahari, but they hide in trees. If you can't see any break some trees in N Bahari, Ur bound to get ran over by some 🤣

Any specific tips regarding the Jewelwing Dragonly? One site says it’s located on the cliffs above the pavel mines, another site just says “bahari fields”. Where did you find yours?

I buzzy-jar patrolled the cliffs directly above the main mine entrance to no avail, twice now. Got pings for other nearby bugs but they were all azure stonehoppers or scintillating centipedes that nearby folks were finding.

The Kilima Fields (the one near Hekla's tent) always have a lot of bugs. The shores of Bahari are full of crabs and snails, and the forests of Bahari always have a ton of lantern flies. That's where I do my leveling up 😄

You can catch crabs and snails the same way as bugs, btw

There isn't a guaranteed way to catch [basically any of the rare/epic things people ask about catching]. Catch or scare off anything in the spawn area and hope you get one to spawn. A Buzzy Jar doesn't make things spawn more frequently. If you want to reallllllllly push for something, drop a Honey Lure a minute or so (in game time) before the window opens for the thing you want, in the area it spawns in, and continue hoping.

I leveled mine up most quickly when I started using Buzzy Jars. I'd start them in south Bahari just before 3 am, then once I'd cleared those bugs, head to north Bahari!

But the purple crabs on the beaches of Bahari also are good! And snails, if you feel like it. They're uncommon so they sell for a bit more, but are super easy to find.

what i do is stay at the middle of the map(ancient aquaduct) and wait for the sound and then look at the ft grove spawn map and go the direction the sound was from and i am usually always the first one(90% of the time)

yeah always axe it once first when you arrive at the location and then do all the other things like waving and all
there is a one tree that when hit gets one-shot by the palium axe(the smallest tree)
I usually dont go for that as I dont need it but if you are low on supply you could hit it and i dont think many would mind

louder sound means the grove is very near to you
and a weaker sound means the grove is very far

I've used so many buzzy jars hunting for a star rainbow tipped butterfly that I have 125 silk and another 500 silk thread waiting to be processed.

Best way to find the butterfly is to go to pulse water around 2:30 AM and use a buzzy jar right at 3:00 AM. I've found 7 or 8 butterflies, just not the star quality version.

One session I found three butterflies, a fairy mantis, and a jewelwing.

The reason you do this at 3:00 AM is because the nighttime bugs despawn and the daytime bugs spawn in. This gives you a better chance of finding the butterfly.

If you keep an eye out for uncommon bugs you can make a ton of buzzy jars with the silk you get from finding rare and epic bugs.

The bugs I'm struggling with are the star amber horn beetle, leaf stalker mantis, and golden glory bee. And that dumb butterfly, obviously.

Spitfire Cicadas spawn on the juniper trees (white bark with yellow and orange leaves) in Bahari between 3 AM and 6PM. Easiest way to find them is using a buzzy jar at Hideaway Bluff. If you don't find one there you can often find them on trees in the flooded fortress.

They are hard to spot without a buzzy jar.

Is there a specific trick to catching the gossimer veil moth? I've been in the respective area and time for it to spawn but have literally spent days in game just trying to find it at all. I've tried a honey lure, and a buzzy jar but have come up painfully empty 😭

Only one moth spawns per night. I went to the leafhopper hills sign at 5:30 PM, popped my buzzy jar at 6:00 PM, made a path south, turned east at remembrance garden, cut through Kenli's house, go east to Einar's cave, then loop up and then west back to the town. You should find a moth on that loop unless someone spooks it.

You can use a sign to fast travel to the Bahari stable, then fast travel back to the Kilima stable. This swaps the server you are on and gives you a chance at another gossamer veil moth. I caught four moths with one buzzy jar using this method. The last moth was ⭐ quality.

Having said that, the method I used worked well for me.

It's just that so many characters want proud horn antlers and I have a quest to hunt down a proud horn, but I cannot find them anywhere because I can't distinguish them from regular elder sernuks. Like Cassie said, mining in Bahari Bay is a good way to spawn scintillating centipedes, which drop silk. If you have the buzzy jar recipe, you can start farming at Pulsewater in Bahari Bay at 3:00 AM. There are alot of rare bugs around Pulsewater / Hideaway / Pavel Mine. Once you collect all of those you can go to Bahari Central Stable and look for more rare bugs while your buzzy jar is still active.

Also, what region are you, Naito? If you are NA I can gift you some silk.

I have something like 600 silk thread and 125 silk cloth from hunting all of the star quality bugs.

And speaking of star quality bugs, look what I just caught!

i'm not too familiar with color blindness but the ones you need will only be in Bahari and will be grey and a bright-ish blue. they are rare to find and are best to hunt with a group of people (not impossible alone) as they can teleport (short distances) and take much more ammo to kill.

Maybe try counting the number of curls on the antlers, if you can get close enough? If you're playing handheld on switch I could see that being extremely difficult.

I am on switch and that's why I'm having such a difficult time I think. But I finally been able to see some. Now that's night time and I think I'd do a better job hunting them if there was an easier way to switch through my arrows cuz I don't want to waste all my dispel arrows

After you've hunted a few I suspect you'll find them easier to recognize. Even on PC I can't switch arrows without losing the beastie, so definitely practice hunting elder sernuks to get the feel of tracking your prey.

Oh yeah, they only require bright shrooms as the rare material. Look for those at the base of ruins in bahari and put them in your lockbox so you don't accidentally cook all of them into steak dinner, not that that's ever happened to me or anything

It summons bugs according to the time of day / location, so if you are hunting a specific bug you need to pay attention to that.

Note, it also only summons free roaming bugs. Bugs found by mining, on trees, or foraging will not appear.

Epic bugs can show up, but I've never seen a honey lure summon one.
