I keep a store of 50 fabric for furniture crafting and keep a few seeds.

I have only ever caught two, one starred and non-starred. Happy to have another starred for display.

Gold - to start with, fishing. Especially with the basic rod that doesn't need repairing, so you don't need to go get mats to fix. and no bait. Once you have a little spending money, buy worms from zeki, catch fish, and sell back. It's pure profit. No idea why people think hunting is profitable, when you have to mine for mats and chop for arrows, and repairs to the bow once it's upgraded. Fishing is the best to begin with. When you have glow worm farm, glow worm fish give even greater gold returns. My 4 million plot was based off fishing. Even the most basic, no bait fish gives better gold than one chappa, and (apart from equipment repairs on later equipment, which means mining [gems = gold now], and wood chopping, you just stand and fish and don't have to wait for respawns of critters.

Also, there are foods/equipment which helps fishing, there's nothing for hunting as of yet, except different arrows.

The worst fish, basic, no bait has better gold value than one chappa meat, unstarred.

I only hunt for meat for cooking, and you need furs and hides for other things to make. Also for any hunting medals to get the things from the NPC shop.

If you're keen on hunting the Mujiin, chop down all the small/choppable trees where they lurk, they'll have no tree to run up and can be picked off solo. (except for the biggest trees, which we cannot chop anyway). Keep 'em away from that biggest tree, and they're yours.

But the Mujiin furs etc are better gold return for effort, possibly. Except I always use too many arrows, because I'm being so cheap, and using the bog standard arrows, not the ones made from iron or palium.

Re: fishing - there's 80 different kinds of fish. Even some good profitable ones using reg worms. It's a fishing game, (so far), with the end game of decorating your house. I figured that out in the first hour of play. Doubtless there'll be more avenues to explore to make gold as the game progresses. Pickles and preserves are the best passive income generators for me, which means gardening is second on the "to do" list.

Side effect of worm farms = fertilizer which you can use or sell. Or even the worms themselves. Potatoes garner nice returns in the pickles, are quick to grow and crop. Tomatoes are pretty good too.

Hot peppers take a while, and take up room, but sell well as preserves/pickles.

Now we have the Bok Choy and chinese cabbage = nice returns and don't take long to crop.

But for beginners, nothing wrong with basic fishing, potatoes and tomatoes and catch, grow and sell to get a nest egg for better things.
