random prism
#

i need to finish this roll of fuji 200

glad juniper
#

well the good news is falls starting

#

so you'll have plenty of colors to shoot lol

random prism
#

i still have 23 exposures left

#

and a whole roll of gold 200

glad juniper
#

i've got a ton of backstock to shoot lol

random prism
#

lol

#

maybe ill try double exposures with fall leaves and something

#

pumpkins idk

glad juniper
#

shoot a halloween party or something

random prism
#

idk

#

sure

#

if i can find one that will invite me

scarlet creek
#

That's the 75-100

glad juniper
#

Yes but you said you was also looking at the 100-300

scarlet creek
#

Sorry mb

glad juniper
#

Aha peak aperture

random prism
#

I'll give you 20$ and a taco bell crunch wrap

glad juniper
#

Do you have that F to shoot it on yet

random prism
#

no

#

they made me stay late at work for breeze charter

glad juniper
#

shame

pastel sentinel
#

yo @glad juniper my man

#

i need some help

#

i need a 150 -600 mm for my nikon D750

pastel sentinel
#

im thinking 2. hand and price (1000$)(MAX)

random prism
#

thoughts on the 100-400?

#

1500$

#

also theres 2x extenders

#

are those worth it?

glad juniper
random prism
#

Or

#

II

#

Sorry

slim plaza
#

Best budget camera? I have a canon 400d not 4000d but paired with it I have the canon 75-300mm I'm looking for smth in the 300-500 range if could thanks

teal basalt
#

Hey maus why do you hate the G1 Tamron 150-600 so much? Samples look great

glad juniper
#

The g1 is horribly soft, the contrast sucks, the af is slow etc etc

teal basalt
#

Fair enough

random prism
#

@glad juniper if you actually want the 550D lmk

glad juniper
#

yeah i gotta talk with my sister first but i'll lyk whats going on

random prism
#

kk

glad juniper
random prism
#

no

#

its the 75-300mm II

glad juniper
#

i see

#

very very interesting

random prism
#

that cant be good

glad juniper
#

it might be

#

it might not be

#

we'll see

random prism
glad juniper
#

i've got things to consider

random prism
#

Have fun considering

#

If it helps it has 2 batteries

#

And a lens hood

glad juniper
#

batt/charger?

random prism
#

Yes

#

2 batteries and said charger

glad juniper
#

which 50?

random prism
#

I uhh can't remember

#

Lemme find

#

It must be at my moms

#

I think it came with the 550

glad juniper
#

hmmm

random prism
#

Found a pic

#

It has UV protection filter on it

glad juniper
#

double hmmm

pastel sentinel
#

@glad juniper

#

im looking at 180 - 600mm

#

is it wort buying 2. hand?

glad juniper
#

The 180-600?

#

Used it's only a few hunge less than msrp

#

Just buy new

random prism
glad juniper
#

Double hmmm

pastel sentinel
glad juniper
#

G1 is shit, G2 is tolerable

#

sigma is better on paper but personally i've got better results with the tamron

#

more people swear by the siggy tho

misty steeple
#

I assume some kind of z mount body

pastel sentinel
#

idk

pastel sentinel
#

(nikon)

misty steeple
pastel sentinel
#

oh ok

misty steeple
#

I would instead look at something like a used nikkor 200-500 5.6

#

They’re around 700 used

#

Overall it’s a better lens than the sigma 150-600 contemp and tamron g1/g2

#

But you dont get the 600

pastel sentinel
#

hmm

#

i found 2 600mm tamron for 600USD

#

600 each ofc

misty steeple
#

I mean for 100 more you get a lens that does everything better

#

If only having 500 is ok

pastel sentinel
#

hmm

misty steeple
#

Def check like ebay bids

pastel sentinel
#

can i take a look online for a while?

#

like do you nkow when you need to go?

misty steeple
#

Ye im just providing suggestions pepepray

pastel sentinel
#

xd

#

ofc

#

but i need that

#

ot

misty steeple
pastel sentinel
#

alot*

misty steeple
#

I have a d750 too :))

#

Thought I don’t rly use it for planes anymore

#

Rn I have the sigma 150-600 contemporary for planes but im looking at selling it and buying the 200-500

pastel sentinel
#

hold on

#

can i DM u?

misty steeple
#

Sure

glad juniper
pastel sentinel
#

whats that?

random prism
#

how fast it auto focuses

pastel sentinel
#

oh is it a big diferens on the 2 lenses?

glad juniper
#

Yeah it is

#

The 2-5 hunts in low light too

misty steeple
#

Wouldn't say its a big difference πŸ’€ I want the sharpness and the much more effective vr which is kinda why

misty steeple
glad juniper
#

anything thats not a d5/6/850/780

misty steeple
#

should be fine on a d4s pepepray

glad juniper
#

maybe d500/7500

misty steeple
#

ik the d600 and d610 struggles to autofocus in low light

#

the 200-500 shouldn't affect hunting in low light, none of the large telephotos should. Really just depends on the autofocus system of the body

#

I haven't had any low light autofocusing issues on my bodies so far except for nearly pitch black dance floors πŸ’€

glad juniper
#

i do but thats also with old glass

#

mostly af/af-d

misty steeple
#

ah yeah

#

what body?

glad juniper
#

d7500

misty steeple
#

i mean

#

some of the af-d lenses should be just as good as af-s in low light

#

which d series

glad juniper
#

80-200 2.8 afd

misty steeple
#

really?

#

damn

#

thats a good one too

glad juniper
#

last gen af before they went to afs

#

and by gen i mean 80-200

misty steeple
#

and the other d7xxx's i think

misty steeple
#

built to last

glad juniper
#

give me a few weeks and i might sell you mine lmao

misty steeple
#

nah sell it to someone who might need it more than me

#

Prob would've bought one had I not bought a 70-200

glad juniper
#

i've got my eye on a *cosmetically damaged* 70-2 2.8 vr ii for under 500

misty steeple
#

I have the vr ii rn

glad juniper
#

nah its through someone local

misty steeple
#

ah

glad juniper
#

yeah

misty steeple
#

ask him if you can test it out first

#

under 500 for just cosmetic issues is interesting

glad juniper
#

he's been shooting it since he bought it

misty steeple
#

damn

#

its a great lens

#

basically never leaves my backpack

#

although the vr noise on mine is annoying as fuck

glad juniper
#

and its af-s meaning i can jump to z soon

misty steeple
#

its prob just mine though

misty steeple
glad juniper
misty steeple
#

ah

#

i mean that doesnt change anything if you don't use filters

glad juniper
#

yeah

#

sounds like he got it for 500 so he's trying to more or less break even

misty steeple
#

crazy deal ngl

glad juniper
#

and since its "damaged" he won't do more

misty steeple
#

i got mine for nearly 1k used

misty steeple
glad juniper
#

the only issue is he's trying to get the 105 1.4 before he sells

#

which are uh

#

not cheap

misty steeple
#

recommend him the 105 f/2 dc

glad juniper
#

he doesn't need the dc

misty steeple
#

i hear its better for the value

#

sharper

glad juniper
#

he's after it for a fast prime he can shoot sports/birds/cars with

misty steeple
#

not as fast autofocus speed and vr though

#

ah

#

nvm

#

i got my eyes on the dc and the 60mm macro

glad juniper
#

i sold my 60 macro

#

it was fine

misty steeple
#

is it sharp?

glad juniper
#

yeah it was sharp i just didn't use it enough

misty steeple
#

alr

glad juniper
#

and i got a 105 to replace it

misty steeple
#

i'm looking at the 105 macro and its not much more expensive but i read that theres focus breathing issues

#

πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

#

that hasnt bothered me in the past but it might for macro purposes

glad juniper
#

i haven't really noticed tbh

#

but i've been using it for scanning so there's not much focus matters

misty steeple
#

it only rly matters if you're trying to fill the frame or whatever

glad juniper
#

i do need to properly macro it soon tho

#

gotta get a proper flash diffuser tho

misty steeple
#

the vr ii has focus breathing issues but it hasn't bothered me ever

glad juniper
#

eh for planes near inf it doesn't really matter lol

misty steeple
#

yeah

#

plus they're already so far out the focal length changes aren't gonna do anything

#

how is the d7500?

glad juniper
#

lovely

misty steeple
#

my "upgrade" was between that and the d750 in the summer

glad juniper
#

the only two serious complaints i've got about it is it can't use a batt grip and that its only got a single card slot

misty steeple
#

i cant remember why i chose the d750 over it

#

wasn't cause of full frame

#

maybe it was the card slot thing

#

thats hella important for me nowadays

glad juniper
#

sensor maybe?

misty steeple
#

can't remember 😭

glad juniper
#

not the fx vs dx but better dr/low noise etc

misty steeple
#

though its much more comfortable

glad juniper
#

i want it more for portraits lol

misty steeple
#

ye

glad juniper
#

i've got one for my d700 and i've been using the piss out of it

misty steeple
#

πŸ˜‚

#

it hasnt left my d750 since forever

#

i kinda like the feel of it more than the built in grips tbh

glad juniper
#

i can't really agree with that tbh, it feels way better on the F5

#

smoother ig

misty steeple
#

mmm

#

i'm gonna compare rq

glad juniper
#

but yeah the 7500 is lovely

#

its been my workhorse for the past 4 years

misty steeple
#

crop sensor is goated for aviation too

#

πŸ˜”

glad juniper
#

high iso perf is eh at best but thats dx for you lol

misty steeple
#

whereas on the d4s theres not rly any grip rubber where my palm is

#

kinda just in the front

#

idk i like more rubber feeling

#

the button placement is much nicer than on a battery grip though

misty steeple
glad juniper
misty steeple
#

sharp as fuck damn

#

man I wish there was an angle like that at sfo

#

πŸ˜”

#

reopen westfield

glad juniper
#

well there can be but you gotta trespass

misty steeple
#

yeah πŸ˜‚

glad juniper
#

or so i've been told

misty steeple
#

pretend you're finding a parking spot

glad juniper
#

i was a good little spotter and just stuck to the bayfront

#

it was "fine"

misty steeple
#

all it takes is some shitty spotters to ruin it for everyone yk

misty steeple
glad juniper
#

i got lucky, the weather was shit lol

misty steeple
#

πŸ˜‚

glad juniper
misty steeple
#

love frenchbee

glad juniper
#

but i'm from the pnw so that was a non issue

misty steeple
#

i had some decent shots from bayfront

#

prob wont go there for a while though until golden hour/sunset goes back behind the airport

glad juniper
#

idk if i should go back to sfo

#

i even caught the funny

#

so like

misty steeple
#

ew πŸ’€

#

golden hour went tough back in the summer

glad juniper
#

there's really no reason to go back if not for the reason that i've got a new lens and am a "better photographer" now

misty steeple
#

now the sunsets hella to the left

misty steeple
misty steeple
#

if you do, check out the airtrain station

#

its been the best not rly any closer option spot for me

glad juniper
#

i'd probably do airtrain and the terrace

misty steeple
#

the only issue is thats like the only moment u get

misty steeple
#

so u get no time

#

gotta make it work though

misty steeple
#

idk if its worth it without one of those lens hoods for the glass

#

silicone or whatever

glad juniper
#

Oh that's a non issue

misty steeple
#

oh fr?

glad juniper
#

Yeah for me at least lol

misty steeple
#

kk

#

is the glass dirty or nah

glad juniper
#

I haven't had issues with dirty glass tbh

misty steeple
#

mmmm ok

#

might have to check it out

#

maybe in the spring

glad juniper
#

Glass is easy to work around if you go slow

misty steeple
#

idk if i've ever seen jetstar in person πŸ’€

misty steeple
glad juniper
#

Use your hand to kinda seal the lens to the glass

#

Panning is tough but doable

#

Idk how to explain it over text lol

misty steeple
#

πŸ˜‚

#

nah you're good

#

i'm looking at a pic of it rn

#

do you know anything ab nikon teleconverters

glad juniper
#

Which one wasn't shot through a window lol

glad juniper
misty steeple
#

ah ok

misty steeple
glad juniper
#

that'd be 1/10 handheld

misty steeple
#

damn

#

I needa work on keeping my hands still for panning πŸ˜‚

glad juniper
#

one of these isn't through a window

misty steeple
#

i c

#

what is abx air

glad juniper
#

Nope

misty steeple
#

😭

glad juniper
#

The cessna was shot on a balcony and the alaska tails were shot from a parking garage

#

Everything else is window or plexiglass

#

Oh and an airplane window

teal basalt
#

Gonna give canon a try πŸ™πŸΌ

#

@random prism what is your favourite lens for canon?

random prism
#

That I've used the 70-300ii

#

Over all is probably say the 70-200 or 100-400

pastel sentinel
#

Hey @glad juniper and @misty steeple

#

I found a nice used nikkor 200-500

#

For 765USD

#

I think that is good

misty steeple
#

Thats a good price

glad juniper
#

Yeah thats a pretty solid price

pastel sentinel
#

My mom wants me to wait😭

#

Til after xmas

#

I hope it is stil for sale then πŸ™

glad juniper
#

one can hope

#

probably a good idea to find a backup or 4 in the meantime

pastel sentinel
#

There is also the tamron 150 600

#

For 541

#

USD

glad juniper
#

g1 or g2

pastel sentinel
#

G2

glad juniper
#

thats not bad either

pastel sentinel
#

Hmm

#

IL see when my mom let's me buy

random prism
#

Lucky

#

I have no room to talk 90% of my gear is hand me downs from my mother

#

Save for one lens

random prism
#

@glad juniper u still interested in the 550D? If not I have some other spotter asking

glad juniper
#

I've decided against it, mostly cause I don't think I terribly want to try to teach someone else a system I don't know

#

Also i might as well put more money towards a better body vs a mid body and still having to buy an edc lens

random prism
#

Kk

#

I sell to this kid then

#

Can maybe squeeze 200$ out of him

glad juniper
#

200 for the 550d, 75-300 bag and batts

#

50 1.4 is another hunge klaudia

random prism
#

Hey

#

I can try alright

#

He can negotiate

pastel sentinel
#

yo for Nikkor 200-500

#

shod i change camera boddy after?

#

if yes which?

#

(im curantly D750)

#

(lookig at D500)

glad juniper
#

No

#

That'd be a downgrade

#

If you want to stick in the dslr ecosystem get a d780/d850/d5/6

#

If not

#

Z6ii/6iii/7ii/8/9

#

Maybe a zf if you want

#

And if the rumors are to be believed, the z50ii will be a great little rig

misty steeple
# glad juniper That'd be a downgrade

the d500 is actually a better body than the d750/d780 in almost every way except full frame and low light performance. The D5 and D6 are too expensive to be starting photography with.

#

especially since hes considering doing wildlife, in which the d500 is the best dslr out there for wildlife

#

plus that'll give him that extra reach with the 200-500

#

@pastel sentinel If you can afford a d500 I would definitely consider it if you want to do wildlife, the d500 and 200-500 together is a really solid wildlife setup

#

plus you get that extra reach

glad juniper
misty steeple
#

yeah

glad juniper
#

There's no real advantage to the d500/7500 other than """muh more reach"""

misty steeple
#

I mean if he really wants to get into wildlife photography, I believe he told me hes interested in it, I would definitely look at a D500 IF you can

glad juniper
#

Which is solved by having more mp to crop

misty steeple
#

and 10 frames per second without the battery grip

#

It's a completely different camera than the d7500 and d750

glad juniper
#

At that point z50ii

#

Same sensor, newer af

misty steeple
#

z50ii is a travel camera

glad juniper
#

and you get your crop factor

misty steeple
#

thats it though

#

I mean, the only comparable camera for wildlife in the z series is the z8 but thats ff

#

there isnt an apsc replacement yet, closest thing would be the r7

glad juniper
#

So the d500s advantages are 10 fps and crop factor

#

Vs a proper fx sensor for more or less the same price

misty steeple
#

crop factor is a big advantage for what he wants to shoot and so is the frames per second yeah, but the autofocus system the d500 has kills the 51 point af system the d750/d7500 has

#

@pastel sentinel Basically if you really want to get into wildlife photography a d500 is going to do everything the d750 does but better for wildlife

#

For aviation you don't need the newer af system

glad juniper
#

Until you want to shoot in lower light, yes

misty steeple
#

Crop factor for planes kinda depends where you're shooting from

glad juniper
#

The d500 would be great

misty steeple
#

there isnt gonna be birds and other animals when its that dark

glad juniper
#

It only does one less ev fwiw

#

-3 out of the 7500, -4 out of the 500

misty steeple
#

yeah but you aren't shooting when its that dark for wildlife

#

especially if he does birding

glad juniper
#

But you can still get a d5 for what, 1500 bucks?

#

12 fps, same af, fx

misty steeple
#

the crop factor is big for wildlife

#

rly important

glad juniper
#

And "professional" klaudia

misty steeple
#

i mean the d5 and d500 are also completely different cameras πŸ’€

glad juniper
misty steeple
#

the d500 was made for wildlife, d5 was made for sports/action

glad juniper
#

The lenses are smaller, cheaper, lighter

#

The bodies are smaller, cheaper etc

misty steeple
#

also not as good

#

πŸ’€

#

and not as good lenses

#

compared to canon/nikon/sony they don't have nearly as good telephoto and telephoto prime options

#

food for thought pepepray

glad juniper
#

Eh your also not getting much in terms of dr

#

Great sensor but compared to fx it's uh

#

Yeah

#

Especially modern fx

misty steeple
#

also the buffer is a thing to think about

#

couldn't imagine birding with my d750, 14 raw photos in a row pepepray

glad juniper
#

I'd do it with my d700

misty steeple
#

πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

#

I mean if he can get the d500 I'd go for it

glad juniper
#

I would too if there's no other option

misty steeple
#

ye

#

I'd also suggest the d850 but its too expensive

#

properly priced but expensive

glad juniper
#

It'd be about the same as the d5

#

And in that case get the d5 lol

misty steeple
#

I'd take the d850

#

45 megapixels compared to 20

#

you can crop hella in post for wildlife

glad juniper
#

But 12 fps vs 7

misty steeple
#

battery pack :))

glad juniper
#

OK 9 then

misty steeple
#

but extra money

glad juniper
#

Vs 12

misty steeple
#

plus you have to think about the weight and allat

#

meanwhile the d6 just exists

#

its just there

#

more expensive than the z9 πŸ’€

glad juniper
#

Where tf are you looking

misty steeple
#

the d6 new is more expensive than the z9 lol

#

body only

#

exactly a thousand more

#

like why

#

anyways pepepray

glad juniper
glad juniper
#

Don't buy new then

misty steeple
#

mpb is goated though

glad juniper
#

They are

misty steeple
#

the d6 does look smexy though

glad juniper
#

I should get a d1 lol

#

And maybe a d3s

misty steeple
#

the d3s is still going strong

#

built to last fr

#

pretty cheap too

#

I needa replace my shutter πŸ’€

misty steeple
glad juniper
#

Nah not for that price

misty steeple
#

how much they going for

glad juniper
#

If I'm buying expensive dumb cameras I'm gonna get a smasnug nx-1

glad juniper
misty steeple
#

really??

#

thats crazy

glad juniper
#

Mpb has some for 600 ish

misty steeple
glad juniper
#

And you get the sad limited iso too

misty steeple
#

😭 😭

#

goofy sensor

glad juniper
#

Mhmm

#

I need to fuck around with my 700 more

misty steeple
#

w

glad juniper
#

Finally took it seriously spotting a few days ago and it's lovely

#

Not a huge fan of the metering tho, it likes to run hot

misty steeple
#

older cameras just feel good to use

glad juniper
#

Gotta figure that out

misty steeple
pastel sentinel
#

Cuz I was thinking if I sell the d750

#

And buy the D500

#

Not in near future

#

But if ever want a new camera

#

Cus if I sell D750 and buy D500

#

I wil profit

misty steeple
pastel sentinel
#

hmm ok

misty steeple
glad juniper
#

oh thats not a bad

misty steeple
#

d850 is also 800 bucks off

#

its pretty close to its used prices now

#

holidays go brrr

random prism
#

B&H?

#

need me that 100-400

misty steeple
#

not even black friday yet too

#

brr

glad juniper
#

My own lil "holiday deals" buy

#

6-700 bucks through mpb, 260 at my local camera store okbuddy

random prism
#

Good

#

Now you have a work camera

glad juniper
#

and its reasonably nice too

pastel sentinel
#

How moch is the d500 then?

teal basalt
#

really depends where you get it from

#

but for now, I would stick with your d750

open ore
#

anyone got lens recommendation? im using a canon rf system rn, looking for a lens that is minimally below f5, ard 300mm of focal length?

glad juniper
#

Faster than f5?

#

Get a 2.8 prime and a loan

#

Or the 100-300 2.8

#

That's only 9500 bucks

pastel sentinel
#

yoo i found 2 200-500mm nikkor f5.6

#

one 750USD

#

one 850USD

#

the one that is 100 usd more has a lens cover

#

for 100USD

pastel sentinel
#

which one do i buy

#

do i get the one whitout and buy cover later?

misty steeple
#

couple thousand bucks though

#

and sigma has a 120-300 2.8 but you'll need to adapt it ef to rf

#

2-3 times the price though

misty steeple
#

you'll need the lens hood though

pastel sentinel
#

i found the lens hood and it was 100usd

misty steeple
#

shouldnt be an extra 100 πŸ’€

pastel sentinel
#

hmm ok

misty steeple
#

@glad juniper Making some interesting financial decisions pepepray sending my 150-600 and d750 to mpb and replacing it with a d810 pepepray the 150-600 money will go towards a prime lens I need for sports

#

might buy the 200-500 sometime in the next couple months

misty steeple
glad juniper
misty steeple
#

i mean the only thing i'm not giving them is the charger

#

and the lens cases aren't included in the list of things that'll affect the price good cuz i'm keeping that shit

#

can be useful πŸ™‚

glad juniper
#

Yeah but they've had issues with "it's not good enough quality, here's 300 bucks less"

glad juniper
#

Yeah

misty steeple
#

well mine is in near perfect shape so

#

i had a skin on it so theres basically no scratches

glad juniper
#

So that 500$ offer might actually be closer to 300

#

Also why 810

only 5 frames per sec but i'd rather have the megapixels then try to crop with a d4s or d750 yk

#

specifically birds

#

i found a d500 for a low price cuz of a coupon on ebay but if I bring it as a second camera for sports I usually don't want the crop factor

glad juniper

Give it a few months and get an 850

Those keep coming down in price

misty steeple

nah

well

#

I would if I had the money πŸ˜‚

misty steeple

its on sale rn cuz of black friday

misty steeple
#

ah u meant used

glad juniper
#

Course I meant used

misty steeple
#

the d850 is a beast but yeah I gotta start saving up for other things

#

I gotta get a 300 2.8 for sports soon after that I gotta save up

glad juniper
#

Why not 300 pf

misty steeple
#

need the 2.8 for sports

#

high school lighting sucks

#

tryna join maxpreps and they won't accept anything less than a 300 2.8

glad juniper
#

Cringe

misty steeple
#

its true though

glad juniper
#

Pretty shit mindset unironically

misty steeple
#

at 2.8 with a 70-200 for field sports i'm already at 10,000 iso+

#

cause you need the higher shutter speed

#

also much sharper and faster than then 300 pf

#

gonna get the older vr 300 2.8 though

#

the vr ii is too expensive for so little advantages

#

the 2.8 is crucial for sports pepepray

why have you replied to a months old message

lime galleon
#

KEH doesn't catalog individual serial numbers, if you buy a camera you have no real idea what condition it's in or what you're gonna get and that really puts me off

#

MPB does kinda scam you when you try to sell something but still it seems way better than the way KEH does things

glad juniper
#

Mpb is wonderful to buy from

lime galleon
#

I know a guy who got sent 2 busted nikon 500 F/4s from MPB though

glad juniper

Everything I've gotten from then is in better condition than they list

lime galleon
#

hmm, nice

glad juniper
#

Selling is a different story tho

lime galleon
#

what's the best way to sell something? local/facebook marketplace or something?

glad juniper
#

Honestly yeah local is best

#

Or trade in to your brand and get money off your new kit

#

I trade in locally but they don't give great rates

#

But I am trading old gear for equally old gear so it doesn't matter all that much

lime galleon
#

I live in Sri Lanka and the local gear trade just doesn't exist lol

#

to be fair, my current gear combo of extremely heavily used EOS 2000D + broken EF-S 18-55 without IS or STM is probably not gonna get me much money either way

pastel sentinel
random prism

this is what i use

#

Also depends on what you wanna do with the tripod

glad juniper
#

or alternatively, no tripod

it'll limit your movement and get in the way more often than not

or get a gimbal head if you insist on a tripod

fluid heads are slow and a ball head isn't what you want

a pop up photo blind

random prism

yeah if you're following things like animals or whatever ball head is not the best

might even want to consider monopod

lighter and more movement with the camera

#

if u have a local camera store, just go and try things

glad juniper
#

If you want a monopod get a tripod with a detachable leg

random prism

that sounds expensive

#

buy 3 monopods and 3d print an adaper to make it into a tripod

glad juniper
#

K&f has one on sale rn

#

You'd have to replace the head tho

random prism

tbh id just use my tripod with 2 legs not extended

random prism
glad juniper

They can make the ball with a fluid base but it's still a "tighten the ball down" mount

#

Does the d610 have sensor oil problems or is it just the d600?

#

Only asking cos I fancy selling the 7100, had enough of it lol

misty steeple
#

Autofocus alone, the d7100 has the 51 point af system which is old but reliable, while the d610 has the much older 39 point autofocus system. The nikon d610 sensor is also known for being unable to autofocus most of its autofocus points in low light. If you don’t like the d7100 you’ll hate the d610

#

What’s your budget and what type of camera are you looking for? @teal basalt

#

Maybe look towards a nikon d700 or d750?

glad juniper
#

Nah the 700 is nice but even more of a downgrade imo

#

750 or 780 would be great

teal basalt
#

Too much for me. Spent most of my money on other things. Ive got a hundred Β£ or so left, hopefully that will increase after Christmas and after selling some of my unused camera gear. So hopefully I'll have about 500 pound or so after selling everything. Mirrorless is out of my budget so dSLR will be my only option for now.

misty steeple
#

at least it can autofocus in the dark

glad juniper
#

Yeah but it's the old 12mp sensor

#

Shit awb too

misty steeple
#

probably best not to go with either tbh πŸ˜‚

misty steeple
#

36mp, it has 51 point af system but on the older side(no group area autofocus), expeed 3 which is pretty old but still better than the d7000 expeed 2, full frame, same iso range as the d7000, same video capabilities, better dynamic range, overall just a better camera. With you're budget thats one of the better nikon dslr's you can get used.

#

still a beast

#

it can only do 4 frames per second though in 14 bit raw if that matters

glad juniper
#

You can get a eye popping one extra fps yeet

#

But yeah, d800 or 750 would be a solid bet for an fx upgrade

#

The 800 is built for resolution over speed so it'll run slow but it'll give you great files to work with

#

You could also do the funny and get a d4

#

D3 would suffice if you're OK with the smaller sensor

teal basalt
#

Yeah, will probably get the d800 then. Would a 750 do a better job? Only asking because I've found one on eBay for 450 body only

misty steeple
#

What do you primarily shoot? If you dont need the high megapixels the d750 is probably the better choice

misty steeple
#

But the d810 is lwk overpriced rn

glad juniper
#

450 on mpb is overpriced?

misty steeple
#

Im talking about good cosmetic quality and not a ridiculous shutter count

#

πŸ’€

#

They’re like 700 for a good one

#

Both on mpb for under 550 have over 240k shutter actuations are are in not great condition

glad juniper
#

It's a tool, it gets used, that's what it's for

#

If i wanted a shelf camera I'd buy a leica πŸ’€

#

Unironically I'd shoot the pants off an m3 tho

misty steeple
#

At that much it can fail at any time

glad juniper
#

Yeah and shutters can fail whenever for reasons cause they want to

#

Sony a7iii moment

misty steeple
#

Its the question whether or not it’ll cost more to replace it if it does fail

#

Which would be more combined with the buying price for a d810 anywhere from 400 and up

#

If someone wants to shoot a lot I wouldn’t recommend going to the bottom of the list and choosing cameras way above the shutter expectancy and loose grips etc

#

I mean I bought a d4s way above the life and its almost at 500k actuations(rated for 400k) but there was no damage and just cosmetic stuff but for under 700

glad juniper
#

Mmmm d4s

misty steeple
#

Crazy deal but if i ever need to replace the shutter it’ll still be less than a β€œgood” d4s, for a d800 prob not, theres also the parts thing and stores might not have shutters for the older cameras no longer serviced by nikon

teal basalt
#

D750 on eBay for 450, d800 on wex for 400

misty steeple
#

What do you primarily shoot? @teal basalt

glad juniper
#

750 ez

#

Unless you absolutely need the res

misty steeple
#

Ye

#

If you do portraits, landscapes, wildlife would be pushing it, get the d800/d800e

teal basalt
misty steeple
#

If you dont do those things the d750 will probably be better

#

Yeah grab the d750

teal basalt
#

And wildlife yes

misty steeple
#

Ah

teal basalt
#

Forgot about that

#

Ok

misty steeple
#

I mean, 24 mp on full frame is pushing it for wildlife but so is 4 fps with the d800

glad juniper
#

If you spend more time in a studio then outside get the 750 klaudia

teal basalt
#

No warranty or returns on eBay though

#

Shouldn't be a problem

misty steeple
#

Both have tradeoffs with each other tbh

#

I think the 750 would be better for u

#

@glad juniper boutta grab a d500 for wildlife pepepray decided I’d rather have the crop factor and arguably the best nikon dslr autofocus over the 36mp of the d810

#

For same prices lol

glad juniper
#

Why not z50 ii

misty steeple
#

Cause the d500 is better suited for wildlife

#

Z50ii is a vlogger and tourist camera

#

5.6 frames per second raw, small body, worse ergonomics, 400-500 dollars more, no dual card slots(big for me), worse build quality

#

Plus need to buy an ftz adapter so thats another 100

#

Planning to get a z8 later summer 2025 though

#

Or somewhere end of next yr

glad juniper
#

Isn't that 5.6 fps number for silent mode

misty steeple
#

I think

#

Idk lemme check

glad juniper
#

9.7 for cont high

misty steeple
#

Ah

#

D500 is better for wildlife in every way except maybe autofocus tracking

glad juniper
#

E shutter is 11 silent, 15 in "full"

misty steeple
#

If i wanted to switch to z to start wildlife id get at least a z6iii/ii or z7ii

glad juniper
#

Plus the high speed capture 30

misty steeple
#

Though the z6 would be pushing it

glad juniper
#

Imo the only issue would be the battery life

misty steeple
glad juniper
#

I'm probably getting one for action/sports and maybe wildlife

misty steeple
#

No dual card slots, no battery grip capabilities, worse battery life by a lot, a lot less customizability, smaller, worse viewfinder(id rather have the optical viewfinder on the d500 than a low res evf), worse ergonomics

#

D500 was made for wildlife

glad juniper
#

The ergo isn't that bad

misty steeple
#

If any pop up

glad juniper
#

Deeper grip over the 50

misty steeple
#

There was a z7ii that had a bid around 700-800 on ebay the other day

#

Crazy

misty steeple
#

Especially if you put big glass on for wildlife and action

glad juniper
misty steeple
#

It was some bid

#

Had a decent shutter count too

#

πŸ˜‚

#

You can find z7s for 900-1000 but i hear the autofocus on the first z7 is atrocious

glad juniper
#

Yeah it is

misty steeple
#

Early mirrorless moment

glad juniper
#

I can get a 50ii and the kit lenses for 300 bucks less than a reasonable condition. 7ii

misty steeple
#

But yeah sports, action, and wildlife id suggest a d500(prob not for low light sports though), d850, d4,d4s,(d3 would be pushing it), d5, d6 is overpriced, z7ii, maybe z6iii, z8, z9

glad juniper
#

But if I'm looking at 1500-1800 bucks I'm getting a d850

misty steeple
#

πŸ’€

#

The z7ii is chefs kiss

glad juniper
misty steeple
#

Meant the lens

#

A z50ii combined with a kit dx lens wont compare to a z7ii with something as cheap as the kit 24-70 f4

glad juniper
#

I feel like that's also not just the gears fault

#

TO A POINT I must add

#

Cause i can ball out with a d700 and an afd 50 1.8 and shoot better than my buddy on a 7ii and the 50 1.4

misty steeple
#

Well both cameras were designed for completely different reasons, its like comparing a d7500 to a d850 spec wise

misty steeple
#

But when it comes to specs and on paper is what I meant

misty steeple
#

πŸ˜”

#

When it comes to the camera itself, specs and capabilities, a z7ii or a d500 will blow the z50ii away for sports action wildlife, granted the photographer knows what they’re doing yk, unless you’re doing video

#

Really the only mirrorless apsc camera successor to the d500 is the canon r7

glad juniper
#

But let's be real here, what we all truly need is a d1x and whatever dx kit lens you can find

#

That's the true best camera out there rn

misty steeple
#

Yeah it has the better af tracking but everything else id rather grab a d500 for less cost

glad juniper
#

I kinda want one tbh

misty steeple
#

Nostalgia

#

Speaking of old cameras i kinda want an f5

glad juniper
#

Also a d3 but that'd be to run it against the d700 for a shootout

misty steeple
#

Dont me impulse buy

glad juniper
#

Oh the F5s are lovely

#

Especially for the price?

misty steeple
#

The build quality is just 😩

glad juniper
#

Arguably the best film camera ever made for 300 bucks?

#

Yes please

misty steeple
#

Easily

#

Built like a tank i hear

glad juniper
#

misty steeple

πŸ˜”

glad juniper

I may or may not have dropped mine a few times

misty steeple
#

I might impulse buy one in the future

glad juniper
#

Oh definitely do it sooner than later imo

misty steeple
#

GAS gonna catch up to me

glad juniper

misty steeple
#

Valid

glad juniper
#

Esp on film

misty steeple
#

Film looks cool

#

Ye

#

One day all the top f mount gear will be dirt cheap and thats when I go crazy

glad juniper
#

Same ish focal range, same film stock, which would you rather edc lmao

#

And the minolta gets a flash so it's really not even a truly fair comparison

misty steeple
glad juniper
#

I just need to shoot more tbh

#

Been way burnt out for a while now after taking photog in school

#

Doing this shit for a grade sucks btw

#

But I will say this, that class convinced me I needed some funny lenses so I'm not that sad about it lol

teal basalt
#

I got some old Minolta film SLR at a thrift shop once

#

Got it for 50p ($0.64)

random prism
#

Oh

#

And that

glad juniper
#

it is tho

teal basalt
#

Maus you have a 7500 right?

#

There's one for the same price as the 750 do I stick with it or look at buying the 7500?

#

Mainly because it's newer of course

glad juniper
#

i mean the 7500 is fine but the sensor holds it back in low light imo

#

i've got a buddy with a 780 and we did a shootout a few months ago

#

there wasn't really a clear winner

#

he did better in shit light, i did better in IQ but i was also using better glass

#

i'd still get the 750 on the basis that its a better camera in a few ways but that more than warrents the same price imo

#

there's not one or two big things to avoid by not getting one yk?

#

like honestly the only real "issues" with the 750 over the 7500 is the size and the "worse" video perf

#

its got far and away the better sensor, better af, better processing

#

double card slots, a mildly longer battery life etc etc

glad juniper
#

but thats not to say the 7500 isn't a bad camera

#

its got arguably the best apsc sensor ever

You know what the aperture does right

pastel sentinel
#

oh yeah

#

the 150 to 600 is 5 to 6,3

#

while the nikkor 200-500 is continues 5.7 or smt

glad juniper
#

That's not what I mean

pastel sentinel
#

shit im bad as this

#

xd

#

what do you mean then''

glad juniper
#

The widest aperture a lens has isn't where it's the sharpest

#

Optically it's generally 1.5-2 whole stops from wide open

#

So a 2.8 lens is "supposed to be" sharpest at 4-5.6

#

That's not always the case

#

But generally so

#

So i shoot my lens (sigma 100-400 5-6.3) at f/11

#

That's generally where i see it to be sharpest

pastel sentinel
#

ah ha

glad juniper
#

Really good lenses are sharp wide open

#

But those are more expensive

pastel sentinel
#

hmm

#

ok so i shod go for the tamron?

#

becs juging on my local resorses i think l be doing more wildlife then aviation

#

so reach is good in bird photography

glad juniper

It is but the nikon is a faster lens

#

It can do better in low light

Not sure about how the vrs stack up tho
