Personally (as someone terrible at PvP) I get like 20-30 lowgrade from the road then head to the sea as it's usually quieter. Farm floaters until I'm full, recycle deployables, or things that don't stack, at lighthouse then farm until full again. Head to bandit or outpost and recycle literally everything. That should easily net you enough resources to make a T2 there, and usually have plenty of scrap to buy enough metal and wood to make a sheet 2x1.
If it's been a poor run for scrap then I'll buy a Jacky and make a stone base instead
