Moon pools on rigs are a bad addition for multiple reasons, hurting gameplay more than they diversify it.
• Many console groups doing oil are usually no larger than 4, sometimes even smaller. Controlling the rig and its access points while managing a new entry is very hard.
• Moon pools hurt smaller groups. Recent updates aim to provide QOL for small groups, but moon pools are a step backward. Imagine being a trio on large. One must deal with scientists/heavies, sometimes two if guns are weak. One watches the dock, another watches boats/swimmers, leaving the moon pool unguarded. It allows silent access to most floors, unfairly punishing smaller groups for not having enough players.
• Solutions: Removing moon pools is unlikely, but a solution is possible. An RF pager or computer sensor could alert attentive players, rewarding awareness instead of punishing them for lack of numbers.
Moon pools favor numbers over skill, and skill should always prevail in a survival game.
