All the videos I see are putting an external on a gatehouse. Is the process different going directly on the base? Some videos use foundations some use hatch frames, idk how far to build out …I’m confused

You can't attach an external directly to your base.
You can still use externals without a gatehouse.
You can use just foundations or a combination of foundations and frames.
I believe it's 7 foundations between current tc coverage and the new tc. So you would build 7 or 8 foundations off from your base, go back and break the foundation that touches the base, then you should be able to place the new Tc on the 7th or 8th foundation.
If you want it to be disconectable, you will use a combination of foundations and some frames.
