I’m fairly new aswell, I found you can get some good early gear by running the roads and smacking barrels/picking up crates/toolboxes. These have a good loot table early on, and you can turn the scrap in at various places to get even more gear
As for stone, stick to grasslands and look for cliffs, stone/metal/sulfur nodes will spawn closer to “rocky” areas

Mili crates (the green ones) have a small chance to drop tier 2 guns, and the normal crates can drop tier 1 guns. I’ve found a great way to get guns like DBs early game is diving
