Our protagonist is Tabby: daughter of the famous Hoennian reporters, Gabby and Ty, reporter and aspiring data analyst. On her way to interview a certain Paldean model, she bumps into Val, who, in this universe being done with Mavis's shit early, decides to do a little switcheroo, telling Tabby about the avatar crisis and tournament that she's been forced to participate in. Tabby, sensing a big scoop and, more importantly, an opportunity to collect some novel data, decides to swap outfits and places with Val, and enters the championship.
