for 1.8.9 the client you'd want to use is just forge. What you probably also want is a launcher, the most commonly used ones are prism launcher and modrinth launcher

Afterwards you can right click on the instance and click edit to add mods and such

hey @timber valve ever since moving to modrintht the texture pack fursky reborn is not retexturing items but only other thigns like pause button
