@pastel pumice (SkilledBear) uploaded a log,

I just came back to the game to see what has changed after a bit over a year of not logging on at all, and I have been trying to update and get at least some of the mods working that I used to use. I'm running into a very weird problem, and I'm not expecting it to be an easy fix.

I have changed and reordered system path variables, have tried different versions and releases of Java 8, have tried multiple MC launcher profiles, used a brand new .minecraft folder, have tried individually adding mods (including Skytils, and also after confirming they are the latest releases), and the only mods that I have gotten to work are the latest releases of NEU and OptiFine together. Tried without both of them too.

I created a clean VM in which I downloaded MC, installed Forge and Java 8, and put all of the mods I have been trying to get to work into the mods folder and it worked. I don't think it is Java or anything MC-related or mod-related, so I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me to try.
Thanks!

yeah whatever mod you're using has a system.exit call

#

which forge does not allow

#

use the forge built in method to crash your game

#

nvm

#

that's just warn

#

whatever nod has that tho is iffy

#

also

got it

#

somehow I don't have a crash reports folder 😂

#

I assume on most normal crashes that it should generate a crash report, but in this new .minecraft folder and with a fresh Forge installation, it hasn't generated any

Are you using Medal?

pastel pumice
#

no, I am not

finite marten
#

medal shouldn't cause crash in init

uncut birch

Your mods folder is located at .minecraft/mods

finite marten
#

thanks fire

pastel pumice
#

the mods I have been trying to get to work?

uncut birch
#

Yes

#

Just send a screenshot of the modfolder that crashes

pastel pumice
#

this is the folder (maybe with one more mod added to it now) that worked on a VM but not on my main system

#

and I have tried adding and removing mods from that list to test specific mods too

uncut birch
#

That looks normal

#

Can you try just skytils

#

It's probably gonna be essential again lol

pastel pumice
#

yes I did that just a moment ago but I'll try again and send a log just in case there's anything useful in there

Now try just optifine

pastel pumice
#

using only OptiFine worked, but only after removing the essential folder in .minecraft

pastel pumice
#

I've tried that at some point but I'll try it again with the current setup just to check

#

using the Essentials installer exe, correct?

#

I did also try downloading the jar (both from their website) just to make sure it wasn't anything with the installer, so I have that too

finite marten
#

the jar

#

put it in your mods folder

#

delete the essentials jar in the essentials folder

pastel pumice
#

got it

really the only weird thing I see in the logs is
[16:31:09] [main/WARN]: Found an old version of ASM (5.0.3). This may cause issues.
[16:31:09] [main/WARN]:

[16:31:09] [main/WARN]: If AND ONLY IF you know what you are doing, have fixed the issue manually and need

unless you truncated

pastel pumice
#

common theme I noticed with pretty much every time that MC fails to load is that the MC window very briefly pops up and then closes

pastel pumice
#

yes

finite marten
#

do you have no crash folder or what

pastel pumice
#

still no crash folder

uncut birch
#

Can try using the essential.exe

#

And if that doesn't work, you could ask essential support

pastel pumice
#

after deleting the existing essentials stuff? or just run it

uncut birch
#

It should make a new game directory or use .minecraft/essential

pastel pumice
#

it creates .minecraft/installations/Forge/essential, logs, and mods

this just isn't a crash tho

#

it's a normal log that gets cut off

#

also why do you have an f drive

pastel pumice
#

I have 5 internal drives on my PC and 2 external hooked up

uncut birch

Seems a lot like Medal but since it happens if you just use essential you can try the support in discord.gg/essential
