try moving out all mods except optfine, patcher and skytils out of your mods folder and seeing if it works
If it does work, then some other mod is breaking it, if it doesn't work then it's specifically Skytils not working

the only mods I know that constantly cause issues are feather/labymod

well ive narrowed it down to like 5 mods

i tested mods one by one and eventually narrowed it down to neu being the issue

and so i searched up in the neu mod sand there was FOR WHATEVER REASON

a mod in neu that makes all armor colors default

but for some some reason it allows armors to be changed to white
