Whenever I try doing that it resets the file whenever I rejoin the server

I'm on 1.2.6, the latest stable version as far as I know

just to confirm, I can edit the file and restart my game and it's fine, I'm just checking if I can do it without having to do that

You should definitely try 1.3.0-pre5

Well 1.3.0-pre5 doesn't have the issue of it not saving, atleast if I understand your problem correctly
