#So what do you do, to relieve stress from RPA or your Job?
1 messages ยท Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I personally enjoy gaming.. and play FPS and strategy games like Valorant , AOE and MMPORGs ๐
Family time, board games, travel and books.
Used to do video games in the past, but have not done that for, like, 4 years now. Mainly because I prioritized my company and my family over gaming. Used to love RPGs. Both MMOs and single player.
Actually have purchased the Witcher 3 when it was released, but have not played through the intro level ๐
witcher 4 is coming in next few years ๐ and cyberpunk part2 already started dev ๐
@torpid dew you play Valorant too?
nah, the only shooter I play is r6 and battlefield sometimes.
I played it, but its not my thing.
ah i saw it in mutual server.. i was like wow.. Valo player ! nice ๐
not even csg0?
yeah, i usually join servers when i play a game. No csgo either
ah i c
too old of a game to me. I don't like those mechanics
MMOs could be fun
I used to love gaming with my wife. Not as fun now with kids around the house, until they can join us
Board games is an alternative sometimes
Game of Life? ๐
Easier to avoid the kids realizing you can actually play games on a PC
Which would make it harder to convince them we actually work on PCs
Agnius, i highly suggest It Takes Two if you have a ps4 or 5. It's a great coop game if your wife is into gaming.
I don't own a console. I've always been a member of the "PC master race", haha
I get it....I got my PS just for Last of Us. 100% worth it
Am planting the seeds of getting a console when my kids are older into my wife's mind, but have not progressed much yet
I used to be addicted to gaming in my youth. In the last couple of years I have not played anywhere near what I used to due new family responsbilities. But two games got me hooked: Counter-Strike (web browser version) and Diablo 2 (and Resurrected).
I think next thing game related would be writing bot to play instead of me ๐
My 5 year old kid does not play video games at all, simply because we don't tell him it's possible. Gonna try to avoid it as long as possible. But once he eventually figures it out, I'm gonna game with him like I mean it
My wife does not want him to start playing video games too early. Other kids his age know their way around mobile games quite well these days
yep, that is what we did
I'll have to admin, back in the day my two boys and I played Rock Band and it was some of the best times.
But I kinda agee with her in this. I started gaming when I was, like, 10. And I can't say I did not get enough of it
no switch? ๐
yep, have one also....heh
my son has it though, i don't play consoles alot
only when there is game that catches my eye that is exclusive
haha i'm tempted to own one... just keep putting it off cuz i know im gonna waste time on it ๐
I wasted plenty of time on various mobile games. Now try to avoid them at all cost
Strict schedule for work/not work. Weak days work from 9-16 and then maybe from 1930-2100. No work from Friday from 1600 - Mondag 900
Having a strict schedule helps
Yeah. No work on weekends and holidays his a rule for me since a few months ago. Works wonders.
Nice LinkedIn post about roughly the same topic, @manic thunder - I try to live by that as well: Not everything has to be perfect.
Thanks. Took me a while to stop requiring perfection from myself. Not really an easy feature to drop
I also like to fish. I live near the Gulf Coast, so I go out on my kayak and saltwater fish. That is MY time.
Plus, my kids are grown, so its just my wife, me, and two dogs. hehe
Nothing special, but doing Duplo with my 2-year-old son is one of the best ways to relax for me. 100% present and forget all the things I have to do here in the office.
LEGO works great indeed. Even better with more complex stuff as the kids get older
I still love to make Lego stuff if I ever end up finding some in a kids room ๐คฃ
Man, I miss doing legos with my boys. Take advantage of it now all, time flies way too fast.
Now they're Snapping me to send gas money at college. ๐
My kid got me and my wife so hooked on lego, we started buying some adult lego stuff ourselves, or giving it to each other as gifts for birthdays and anniversaries. Got a bunch of them. Now decided to stop doing that, as it's a bit too expensive for a hobby where I build something once and then put it on the shelf
Been there done that. We bought the Lego Land Rover (around 1 billion pieces) and Stine and I spent 8 months assembling it - never again ๐
That doesn't happen to us. We do it quite quickly actually ๐ that's the problem though - costs a lot, but is over quite quickly and then it is just a decoration basically
Thats fantastic, what kind of board games would you suggest to play with wife? I want to do that
Twister
Backgammon, Ticket to Ride (express edition), Uno, Yatzy and Sentient are favorites here
We love Splendor, Carcassone (not sure if that's how it's spelled), Saboteur duel. We also loved The Settlers of Catan, but this one requires at least 3 players. She's also a Harry Potter fan, so I bought the Hogwarts Battle which is a co-op game based on HP. And I am a Witcher fan, so we sometimes played the Witcher Adventure Game. I have also backed a Witcher game in Kickstarter some time last year. Still waiting for it to arrive though. It's a big one.
Thank you for your suggesitons, appreciated!
music, chess, video games, disc golf and bars are the main ones.
Music, Movies, Outdoor Games Mostly badminton and sometimes play Ludo game with kids.
Walking with my dog, even sometimes when working at home, just to refresh my head. Walking with him any morning before job.
Fitness, great to focus on something else, and get the eyes of the screen.
Playing football two times a week with men between 25 and 55, no matter the weather. Also great to get your mind on something else.
Family time
Playing board games and Playstation.
And most important, not to check the phone for mails after work, unless something is in hypercare the first week.
I play baseball. We have adult leagues. In 2021, I played 60 games. I've actually played against a team from Ukraine a few times over the years.
Me, playing Chivalry 2
Sleeping ๐คฃ

Me and my boys at mathematical olympiad
How I looked in school ๐
Oh, yeah. Sorry, that's Anders, Tomasz Czajka, some guy and me (left to right), at math olympiad in Poland, 1997. We had great fun back then, hadn't we?
Thanks for crediting!
you were at math olympiad in '97???? I've solved all the exercises from the 90's, even qualified myself in 2002. Not enough math nerds around ๐
oh sry, the polish one. Still just as cool
I actually went to some local olympiads in primary school. So, must have been between 1999 and 2003
yeah? cool!
Sorry guys, to those who did not recognize the meme:
the picture is a meme?
and it's you?
That's disappointing, as it means you're not a nerd
yeah, those guys seem cool af
Totes
Wait, there's follow up
https://knowyourmeme.com/photos/1474149-nerd-party
you still haven't told is if you're joking or if the dude on the right is actually you
You think I would do RPA if I was a living meme?
You're right ๐งโโ๏ธ
I would believe you, if you said you were in any of those pictures, @blazing notch . Actually maybe even more so with the reunion one. The second guy from the right kinda looks similar to your picture on Discord.
And this server seems to be the kind of a place where being a nerd is cool, so you'd be one of the cool kids
The one with the goatee ?
Yes, obviously
COD
I literally recognised him cuz of that goatee lol
Getting into the outdoors is a great way to break away. I caught a few of these guys this past Sunday. It was a great day!
๐
Getting outside is definitely a must when you sit inside all day. I like hiking and day trips with the family, and recently joined a judo club which has been fun.
Great advice. If i don't get proper outside time for a week, my work suffers quite a lot
Yeah, with age I started appreciating sunlight ๐ if I don't come outside at least once a day I feel strange.
I don't know now how I could stand grinding gold for days during my MMORPG addiciton days ๐
WOW?
Excercise is a great way to relieve stress for sure

Doing all but 6 and 3 ๐ค๐
I'm on 1 through 3 plus 8. Pretty much enough for me. But I only work 3-4 hours a day and they're not all spent on pure programming, so it's not really too stressful to begin with, haha
/ask-gpt how u relieve your stress ๐
With breaks I'm trying Pomodoro but that's not always possible for days packed with meetings and family interrupting work. I figured I stick to Pomodoro when there are no meetings or later during the day.
I generally find human interactions more stessful than programming. Kinda surprising you do the opposite.
You must be an introvert then. I'm not
Not that there's anything wrong with being an introvert. It just means we are different in terms of how social interaction makes us feel and that's perfectly normal
I remember the best thing to relieve my stress when I was a student (and under a lot of stress) was boxing. Me and a few of my mates would meet up at the local gym and would beat each other up. Was pretty great. Would feel a lot better afterwards.
Remind me not to annoy you ๐คฃ๐คฃ
haha, it's been a while since I did that, though.
Well I do sometimes go to a nearby park to relieve stress
A short hike is also one of my favorites ๐
I used to play video games or watch yt/netflix after work, but I noticed that was terrible for me as I was not able to disconnect from work. So now I usually go out for a walk, run or play some sports, so I can free my mind from work.
Being active is also my favorite, next to playing around with my son ๐ฅฐ
Am I the only one that feels like work, RPA, etc is the easy part? I know exactly what I need to do, and how to do it. I get to learn and I feel productive. Everything else is extremely stressful, haha.
I think everything can be stressful if you attach a deadline to it ๐ค๐
Thatโs funny. I tell my wife to give me deadlines, cuz if she doesnโt, it never gets done.
I thought it's usually the wife who sets the deadlines to have her requests looked into any sooner than within 6-12 months. My whole life was a lie!
During pandemic I started doing calisthenics as a form of physical activity. It's great because you can start training at home with no equipment and progress from there. Now I own weigthed vest, paralettes and gimnastic rings. Physical exercises are the best for stress relief, even if you don't feel like it, do it and you will feel great afterwards ๐
I really want to get into this myself, but so far I only reached the pull-up + TRX step.
Have never heard of the word, but you made me Google it and I know what you mean. While what I do is just some simple full body workout routine, I agree 100% about it being a great stress relief!
reviving this chat just to say that I tell my wife that if I say I'll do something, I'll do it, she doesn't have to remind me every 6 months...
