I always thought smurfing was another word for late joiners who'd wait until 5mins before the event would end and win one race and get higher placement than those who raced multiple times.

Smurfing is old players who start a new account and keep it as low level as possible to be able to steamroll all the new players as they have an advantage of knowledge over them
