Currently on FACEIT, if a player leaves a game, they get hit with double the elo loss if the team loses, and only half the elo gain if the team wins. This is applied regardless of the reason for leaving — whether the player purposely disconnects, or even experiences technical issues (network down, electricity outtage etc) beyond their control.
Recently, I had two separate games in a single week where I was disconnected because of electricity outages in my area. These weren’t my fault in any way, yet in both games I lost -60 elo each (premium game penalty), adding up to -120 elo in just two games. That’s brutal for something completely outside of my control.
I understand the logic behind protecting the 4 remaining players on the team by reducing their elo loss, but penalizing the player who disconnected this harshly when it wasn’t intentional feels unfair. Here’s what I think would make more sense:
If a player intentionally disconnects (Disconnected by user), they should absolutely keep the double elo loss and reduced elo gain.
If the disconnect is caused by uncontrollable reasons (e.g., unable to establish a connection to the game, server crash, verified ISP/power outage), the player should lose the normal elo (-25) and gain the normal amount if their team wins.
This would make the system fairer. Accidents and technical issues happen, and there’s a huge difference between rage-quitting and having your power go out e.g.
What do you guys think? Has anyone else been hit with huge elo losses for things that weren’t their fault?
