#Party ELO Limitation

I use FACEIT not because I want to go pro or anything, but just because it is the only place that I can get fair matches. MM often matches us against people that are not anywhere near our skill level (both better and worse) - we play in North America.

The gap in skill in my friend group is large, so we often play with a lv1 - lv10 ELO span in our group. FACEIT matchmaking is pretty good at matching us against 5 stacks who have a similar ELO distribution and we have a fun time playing on the platform.

The party ELO limitation announcement really concerns me, because if it is implemented that leaves the people in my group with a few options:

  1. Create a smurf account that is low enough level to play with my friends (I will not be doing this, but I feel like this ELO change creates this pressure)
  2. Throw for a week to get down to my friends' level
  3. Boost my friends' accounts to be at my level
  4. Play MM instead of FACEIT (realistically this is our only option, given that the rest all involve dishonesty/match manipulation)

I understand why you are testing out this change, but I wanted to pass along my experience and suggest that perhaps this is best served as an EU only change or something similar. I also totally get that matching my stack against a bunch of randoms could lead to a bad experience, so perhaps prioritize matching us against other 5-stacks when the gap in ELO is large on our team.

I am happy to give more details about my experience if you have specific questions

@nova path thanks for sharing. We are indeed also concerned about the aspects of playing with your friends which is why we are taking conservative steps to test the change. Players tell us that they want a balanced and competitive environment, especially in the Premium queue, so we decided to run this test there while there is still an option for players to continue playing with their friends in the other Free queue.

There is a lot of thought on how we find a great balance to keep the competitive integrity and playing with your friends as an option, while we elimiate the problems where it can be abused to "grind your way up".

@civic otter yeah honestly I think having the Premium queue include an ELO limit but letting anyone play in the Free queue would be a great solution to give people on both sides an option

and i keep getting those boosted bots, who play high lvl, and lvl 1s with low average and always losing

faceit is meant to be a competitive platform, if your friends can't get to your level, it just means they haven't been playing enough or not putting enough effort in, and should play by their rank

it's out top priority to eliminate those types of abuses. our weapon against that is not only about limiting parties. 😉
