I feel like there's something I must not understand about the game because the first ice block slide puzzle seems... not possible lol. But a bunch of people have beaten it so I assume I'm just missing something very basic. (This is very embarassing)
It’s definitely possible! If you want a hint: ||try pushing the block down as your first move||.
~~It just seems like, if I work backwards from where it's supposed to go, then I eventually need to push it from somewhere that I can't (because the position to push it is blocked off). ~~But that does rule out 25% of opening moves so at least I won't waste time trying any other first push haha
Nope I just didn't look hard enough! 🤦♂️ One of those situations where if you decide early on what the solution "must" be, you miss what it actually is.
Okay the bit where ||if you fall you lose out on a heart piece (which I 100% only did to see what happens)|| is evil genius, I love it
Boss fight was good, nice shootout vibe, felt like it would have been better if there was more room for maneuver (but didn't strictly need it since you get enough health to tank getting knocked off).
Yeah the boss fight arena was what I was most worried about. It was originally even smaller since my original plan was to try and use the freezors to make more ice to fight on, but it was too difficult so now they’re basically just added difficulty.
I think there was a secret room on the map but never found a bomb to get through the walls to it, also there was a key door I never found a key for? But didn't need to
The freezers weren't enough of a problem to make it frustrating but just enough to keep it from being a pure sitting around to shoot thing, so they worked well
The secret room is just an invisible door that you’d only see checking the map (I always do that as a reward for people who actually look at the map) but I’m not sure about the key door. Where was it exactly?
There should be two required key doors: one in the push block room and one in the hallway west of the bridge.
So there's a room where you get the big key, below that is a room with a spinning thingie, the exit door of that room looked (?) like a key door, but I never needed to find a key for it, but also, I only entered it from the side with the spinny thing. Maybe it was actually just a conditionally shut/one-way door
There is a key door that leads to the spinning bar, but other than that all the other doors are standard. The other side is technically optional, but I wanted people to explore that room if they hadn’t gotten the key yet. As long as I didn’t accidentally swap it to a key door or something without realizing it should be good.
Thank you btw for play testing! It really does help a lot
there is a bit where you can cheese so that you do not have to use the key, its when you enter from the left side into the room and go vertically up from the left corner to the right corner of the two platforms.
Nontheless i very much liked the level especially the usage of the fire wand to get some extra heart was really good!
The boss on the other hand was really busy with all the things going on, it wasn't bad though and the entry to the boss area was epic!
Ah I didn’t realize you could actually make it across those corners lol. I’ll probably go fix that, thanks for pointing that out and I’m glad you liked it!
I basically never found or needed this key 🤷♂️
So you only found one? Uh oh.
Yes that's how I did it, didn't even realize it was cheese haha
wait... there were two keys?
Yeah I definitely need to fix that lol. That means you missed a huge fight arena I spent a bunch of time on lol.
Oh my god.
where was the second keyhole then?
it really could be just me having forgotten that i used it
It's possible I did that fight but missed the key
One key in the push block room, one in the big ice doughnut fight room.
ohh yeah it was me just forgetting the frozen key 😅
Oh Ok lol. 😆
You can skip the frozen key?
not afaik
Oh you meant forgetting about it, not like you didn't get it
yeh i just forgot it
you dont need to use one of them as you can just corner walk
at least to my knowledge
i did the arena anyways cause i didnt know what it'd give tho
might've also stolen it for my own dungeon
Feel free lol. I’m just glad you liked it.
maybe even blueprint it?
I thought about it, but wasn’t sure if I should. Maybe I’ll go back and do that.
its worth it
Played thru again to do the arena I missed. I liked the concept but the wizzerobe guys just being able to pop up in places I couldn't see them or hit them made that section drag on a bit.
This was a really solid dungeon though, enjoyed it a lot
Yeah, I agree the Zorbs aren’t super fun to fight against… but walking enemies tend to do poorly on ice. That arena was originally going to give you the fire rod, but I realized you really need a ranged weapon to deal with the zorbs so I moved it up sooner in the dungeon. I’m glad you enjoyed it though!
The boss gem dropped in the water and I couldn't grab it. Otherwise great dungeon!
cool dungeon. (pun not intended but allowed to exist anyway.) getting the boss key was the hardest part, it took me a while to realize you needed to snipe the ice block from that one ledge all the way across the room. other than that, very fun. boss was a panic moment when i realized just what the gimmick was, and somehow the respawning heart ended up in the water so i couldn't pick any more up at that point, but the fairy came in clutch.
Oh man, I never even realized the gem could fall in the water. I’m assuming the freezors pushed it in?
Yeah exactly. If you made it appear in a chest maybe it would fix it?
Yep that’d work. Good catch I would’ve never thought about that.
this is exactly why i want to remove the gem and replace it with a holy light of sorts
I think the gem can work fine, but it might be better in its own room that only opens when the boss is defeated (Link's Awakening style)
oh yea, but im just saying its something makers can easily overlook
and its arguably one of the most frustrating softlocks
since youre almost at the end
and i generally try to avoid softlocks as much as possible through game design
Gem softlocks seem to arise from it dropping from the enemy directly while they're over a hole or other non walkable surface. Could that not be fixed by not letting them be nested in an enemy like that?
you can also have them on a conveyor and dropped into a hole
or pushed by wind
or water jet
theres so many potentially accidental ways
all items are affected by wind and water
looks at pot
lol
If it does get replaced, can we have multiple exit lights? Right now I’m making a dungeon where the gem drops between floors so the boss music plays in multiple rooms, and I’d rather keep it that way.
multiple exit lights are actually encouraged
all players have to stand in one to complete the dungeon (so you can have more puzzles for co-op)
and you can place as many as you want in a dungeon to allow different endings or paths
and i plan to change how the music works too
so its not tied to gem or kill enemies condition
Ohh that sounds neat.
what if there would be 2 ways of finishing a dungeon? the gem and the holy light?
what? i just kept falling so i could go the wrong way with the iron bar lmao
like whenever it was bouta hit me i just intentionally fell off the platform
so it didnt push me back
and slowly made progress
the issue with this is that then the boss doesnt have music...
I mean, I guess brute force works too haha.
