#Making blocks appear once condition is met

Blocks are very versatile objects and I find myself wanting them to be able to appear, once a switch it activated. That would open up a bunch of new options:

  • It could block off a path previously avaiable to the player
  • It could open up a path that was previously unpassable (by putting them into liquid tiles like water)
  • It could add an element to puzzle that couldn't be be solved previously.

I don't know if this is TOO versatile to appear if a condition is met, but it seems to have a lot of potential 😄

I agree but we also need like unpushable blocks to be able to appea wait fuck that exists already

blocks that can be pulled might be interesting too

That's what pillars are for, Willy

yeah, but pillars only work for pressure plate switches. in water they just block up the path

You can make an "appearing" block by placing a tile of water, placing an open trapdoor on the water linked to something in the room, and then putting the block on top. The block will be submerged in the water normally and be unable to be interacted with, but, if you close the trapdoor, the block will be forced out of the water and become movable. Of course, the player can see it before it's activated, but yeah.

Wow, this is a really nice way to work around the conditions! However, this honstly strengthens my feeling, that it should be possible to achieve the same outcome without using a workaround like that. It would be much more accessible and simpler if you could make blocks appear directly as I've suggested. There would also be an element of surprise to it that may be interesting to various setups.

It's a very cool cool tip, nevertheless though.

Thanks for sharing!

You could also make the block fall down from above floor

an AWESOME mechanic, thank you. I needed that.

It's a fun pair of mechanics

Was this part of an update? I used to think that pushing blocks down into a different floor was something that specifically wasn't possible...

I think it was as long as I an recall, but unsure

Might be misremembering then 😄

this can be done by using trapdoors + liquid tile

but yea, an official one would br better
