you can see that if you draw the shapes using many short strokes instead of a single long line, they come out more accurate and look better overall.

I'm not a pro at hatching, but this is what my experience has taught me, still, don't limit yourself to just my advice, try different approaches and see what works best for you. The most important factor in improving your hatching is lots of practice, muscle memory plays a huge role, because each hatch stroke happens faster than the time it takes to consciously think about it, your hand gets used to repeating the same motion over and over, so it's worth training those repetitive movements for the types of hatching you want to use.
