Im too dumb to figure jokes out
Maybe. Depends on what you want me to do exactly
Ross could you help me understand Badass's joke. Im too nonnative to get it
He's saying that the pitch of her voice is too high. Needs more bass, less treble. Maybe there's a hint of trans humour in there, not sure.
just giving advice where i can improve my prounciation and intonation and where I made mistakes
Ohh that makes sensee
bad badass, bad

Shouldhn't comment on people's voices
here is myself reading a paragraph
and thats the paragraph: Teachers are, at times, a much-maligned and misunderstood community. Your friends will rib you about
knocking off at 3 o'clock. "Oh, and you get all those holidays don't you?" they will quip. "How hard can it
5 really be?" To cut to the chase, teaching is a stressful profession. Many of those friends of yours who jest about
your extended holidays will not understand the complexities and strains of being in the profession. I will only
pick upon one of the litany of examples that no doubt are popping into your minds to exemplify the point. If a
businessman or woman is presenting to a client in any given week, how long do they spend preparing, even
rehearsing their number? Hours of time is the answer, potentially even days. Yet as teachers we present like
10 this every single day of term, with limited preparation time, with many of these presentations within one day,
often consecutively
It really sounds like you are just reading this, and not so much like you are explaining the concept behind the words you are reading. The pronunciation of words is overall great. The flow is lacking at times.
@karmic nymph here's my take on the passage. I did stumble a bit at one point, but you get the point, I hope.
thanks for the feedback. In my oral exam i will only have enough time to read the paragraph once since I also have other parts that I need to focus on.
Do you have any recommendation how I can improve so it doesn't sound like that.
thanks for the help. I really appreciate that
You'll need to learn when to pause and when to stress particular words
thanks for the feedback. I strive to sound like your reading on day :)
"even rehearsing their number? (Short pause) Hours of time..."
Keep it up. You're doing well
Guys I wanna practice my British English. Do you guys generally look after American accent learner?
Itās difficult to maintain it for too long
@red cliff I passed my oral exam btw. Thanks for the advice/feedback (not really sure what the difference is).
There are varieties around here, not particularly sticking with an American accent all the time.
Feedback comes in many forms, but I like to think of it as giving you my thoughts about it, like a reaction. Advice is the words of guidance that aim to help you in the future. I feel like I did both for you.
Glad to hear you passed. Congrats š
It's true that it's more difficult than the British accent, but it is more beautiful and makes people listen to you with all gravity and attention. But learn what you want, not what people impose on you.

hii scellaaa thank you very much for giving me a very helpful feedback, I really appreciate your effort, and I'm sorry for the slow response to your text because I've been hectic for the past few days
Hey, np :>
hii emily I'm really happy that you want to correct me and give me correction, and I'm really helped by your explanation, very totality in giving me understanding
do u hv any advice for me so that i can learn more vocabulary?
Just read more I guess, or listen to stories. Never ignore any words you don't know, always look them up
Try to use the words you want to learn
I want to learn 'forlorn', so I try to slip it into my texts and speech now and again
learn the words you want to learn in context
make an example sentence
make a few of them
lol
just generally use the word, look it up multiple times over a two weeks or so, and understand the word in context
some people use flashcards also, but I personally am too lazy to do that lol
but I hear they're effective
ahh got it, ya i think my mistake all this time lies here
because sometimes when i hv read a text and i am able to understand the meaning of the text, i emmediately ignore unfamiliar vocab
because i think the most important thing is that i understand the point of the text i read
that's okay to do, but if you look up the words then you can learn them more easily
oh god you are very helpful scellaaa thankk you
Guys, how do you pronounce : Archie ?
Maybe is it pronounced like Ar-kee I think.
/ĖÉĖtĶ”Źi/ or /ĖÉɹtĶ”Źi/: A(R)-chee.
hi
what does that arc represent?
hi
that two sounds are one phoneme ig
It can represent co-articulated consonants, affricates, or diphthongs
Affricates are a plosive very quickly followed by a fricative
like ch, and j
at the same place of articulation in the math
co-articulated consonants are when two places of articulation are used at once
Like some stops used in African langauges. E.g., /ɔ͔b/, where you do a /g/ and /b/ at the same time
Sometimes you see diphthongs written like /a͔ɪ/
so basically, when two sounds are considered as one by the native speakers of a language
Thank you guys, I did try to pronounce it.

Uhhh I try to imitate natives, also Iām in the UK now so hopefully thatāll speed the process up a bit
Still not sure which accent to imitate tho
maybe can i do something to not sound asian?
Do you know received pronunciation accent? I guess you'll have to try, that's common in UK i suppose
@stone pendant You should ask him. He's Asian and has a pretty solid accent for a non native speaker
like sometimes I wonder if he's lived in an English-speaking country
like what kind of asian is it?
I'm not sure where he's from tho
I have my own method by pronounce the end syllables of the word and the next directly, but it depends on which accent you'd like to learn
like deliberately trying sounds funny
which one do you go for?
Yeah I know
Thailand
American
Tbh I think you sound more British than American
hmm can you tell mine?
Still decent tho
No, it sounds Asian to me, but I'm not sure where you're from
If I may guess, are you from Indonesia?
So where are you actually from?
dont you think its nice to not sound from anywhere?
I don't think that's weird, I think you should just let go ur voice, so it won't sounds like you're holdin' it
asia
I mean what country are you from?
can i not say?
It's totally up to you if you wanna say where you're from or not
what about u, bro?
mmm thank you
Ireland
correct me if I'm wrong, irish(?)
you guys have a lot of slangs?
Oh My, I was meeting with a tourist from Ireland few months ago, I don't think I could try their accent, but it sounds interesting to me ššš»
Galway has the best accent
it feels like I'm talking to Clove from Valorant, yk
Well, if we even have one
oh i remember this one from a book
Galway in is known for having a lot of American tourists and a mix of different accents
I was too focus on what should I go in terms of accent, is it really alright to not having any? I mean like you said, mix of different accents?
a mix of various sounds fascinating in its own way?
There's no such thing as a purely "neutral" accent 'cause it always depends on what mix of accents you're talking about. Are you saying wotah in a British way while the rest of your speech sounds distinctly American? That would sound a bit odd. Or do you mean differences in word choice? That can vary depending on the country
But when it comes to conversation, the important thing is to deliver the message you'd like to send, no?
Yeah you're fine as long as people can understand you
so what's best in this case?
oh this is great, its like reading victorian/ gothic stuff vs southern gothic stuff?
I don't have friends who can judge how good my pronunciation is
Just don't force it too much. If it sounds too forced, it'll end up sounding worse. Focus on the sounds. I don't know, you should probably ask @stone pendant since he knows how to improve an accent
You can send a recording here
I learn pronunciation in college tho, I only pronounce the words from the IPA Letters(?)
Wait, I'll look for the text i made few years ago. Should I send the text also?

Hello :> may someone give me feedback on this recording of me
I rarely speak so I think that I could work on my pronunciation
Hi EnVoyage, nice job! I understood everything in one listen. Some comments:
- The "th" sound in "the" is notoriously hard to pronounce. Yours sounds like a "d" sound ("de"), so I suggest practicing saying "the" on its own!
- You paused a bit at the end of the word "weekend", making it sound like "week-END". As an American English speaker this sounded odd. Try saying it a bit faster with more emphasis on the "week" syllable. I say it like WEEK-end.
- "Memories" sounded shortened, like you were saying "memrys". Try slowing down on that word to say all three syllables clearly.
Great pronunciation!
It's really clear and understandable. Well done!
The way they said 'Memories' is how some natives say it. I think it's mainly Brits, but I could be wrong about the region, but that pronunciation is fine

hi
can anyone give me a feedback on my accent? im leaning towards british, and im trying to practice .-.
the script was generated by GPT so.. if u have any scripts for me I ll be happy to read em
@ember hatch
You're speaking a bit too quickly. I think you'd benefit from slowing down.
Some words here and there are a bit off:
- 'Models': the vowel was off (I think that even in American English it would be off). It should be a short o sound like in 'lot'. The 'd' was a tap-d. Generally, the typical British accent won't use those, though some more casual forms of British do use them.
- 'Concept': the first vowel was a bit off. It should be more rounded and a bit further down in the mouth.
- 'Artificial': this sounded a bit like 'ar ti fuh tol'. The main issue would be that you used a 't' sound instead of a 'sh' sound. But the stress was a bit off as well. You should stress the 'ficial' bit of the word. I'd suggest listening to it here.
- 'Acquisition': you did correct yourself on this one, but ended up settling for a pronunciation with stress that was slightly inccorect. Just listen to the word here.
- 'Dog': this sounded a lot like 'dock'.
So overall you're doing alright. My notes would just be to 1. slow down, 2. learn the stress of words, 3. practice your vowel in words like 'dog', 'log', 'lot', 'model', 'trot', etc. (that short o sound), and 4, try to enunciate a bit more. It sounds a bit forced but it's not bad at all. Just practice
slow down. i think you already got it
i mean kinda what im goin be doing i do need to be fast maybe thats why, thank you all anyways I really appreciate it
Good luck :D

My apologies. I'm not familiar enough with the differences between the various American accents to say
It's not bad, but there are parts where I struggle a bit to follow along. Your biggest issue is skipping some important consonants and letting words sort of "blend together". I'll highlight some of the sections where your pronunciation may need a little work:
When you say "How the Trump administration", you say "de" instead of "the", which is a very common issue. You also need to hit the consonants a little harder in "administration"
When you say "American", hit the ending n harder so that it's distinct from the word "America"
"Where treated to talks" this was one of of the tougher parts to get right away, when you say "treated" it's trailing off a bit like "treatehh"; if you say it with a stronger d (like "tree-tid") it will be much cleaner
At 0:47 I think you say "all" but you pronounce it sort of like "ole" when it should be more like "awl"
When you say "country", make sure the first syllable is "cun" like in the word "cunning"; yours sounds a bit like the beginning of the word "contra"
Overall, not bad but some parts need a little more clarity. I can tell you're reading pretty confidently because that was a hard topic you chose, but a little focus on pronouncing your consonants a bit more consciously should help a lot with your clarity. Good job and keep going!
Thank you so much for your feedback. I truly appreciate it!
Yeah it's hard to say just buy listening, but the guy is from New York, if that helps

It looks like you speak Portugese, so I'll try to provide some words with similar sounds. ||I don't speak Portugese, I'm using Google Translate and ChatGPT š
||
The "ai" in "fail" sounds like the "ei" in "leite" or "peito"
The "i" in "file" sounds like the "ai" in "mais" or "cai"
"failed" should sound like "faild", as if there was a "d" right after the word; don't pronounce the "e"

Hello, Iām Harry Potter. You might know me as āThe Boy Who Lived.ā I grew up with the Dursleys at 4 Privet Drive, not knowing I was a wizard until I turned eleven. Thatās when Hagrid showed up and brought me to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I was sorted into Gryffindor, where I met my best friends, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.
Iāve had my fair share of adventuresāfacing down You-Know-Who (well, Voldemort) more times than Iād like to count, playing Seeker for the Gryffindor Quidditch team, and unraveling the mysteries of the wizarding world. Despite all that, Iām just trying to live a normal life, maybe without a dark wizard trying to kill me for once.
Thank you so much ā¤ļø
Why do I still sound off man, Iām using your recording as reference alreadyā¦

Asian accent? wow

I thought you were Russian until you said 'privet' - which, as far as I know, is how they say hello in Russia (with a slightly stronger 'r'). But now I'm picking up some Asian hints - maybe Indonesian? There are a lot of you guys on the server, but you don't sound completely Indonesian either. So, I'll just stick with guessing somewhere in Asia. Either way, you're easy to understand, and I didn't even need to read the text. That's a good thing!
Oh I'm not russian/asiatic/indonesian haha. I have a problem in keep one single accent, so depending on the day I speak with differents accents. But I'm glad you were able to understand what I said without relying on the text
Where are you from?
I would like to keep it a secret, if that's okay š

my bet is central european, but your background obviously doesn't have to matter anyway. easy to understand
clear enough, good. you pronounce some things not the way they should be pronounced normally, but it's not like this makes it very difficult to understand, it does not
i was so nervous while reading this lol
the text is filled with a lot names tho
I like to hear your pronunciation.where are you from?
thanks! im from turkey i think i could've pronounce that text better but it was a confusing one because of the names and weird words that i haven't seen before.
thanks man we need more texts from you lol
If you'd like to know how the names sound, you could check my recording. I believe I got them right
Do you know Russian fast song?
Where are you from?
I prefer not to share a specific country, but I can give general region. Curious what you'd guess though
You don't sound Asian, typically European, or overly British. But you are probably from Europe
I see I see
Many people have told me I sound 'generally European'
I'm Arab though, Middle Eastern
If you spoke to me in real life, I would probably assume you lived in the UK but are not British
Your English is really good
Thank you! š
I try to sound English, but ofc, a non-native could never fully perfect the accent
Or just tell me you were born in the Netherlands or Germany, and I'd totally believe you. I'd even say you have a really good British accent for a German
Lmao, no one has said I sound German before
Ah, I see, you said germany because of the 'Generally European' quality of my accent, not because I sound German in particular, yes?
Either way, I'm glad I have a convincing enough accent
Always glad to get native feedback
You sound British, maybe like someone who lived in the UK but isn't actually British. Or you could just say you're from some European country, and it would be pretty convincing
not now maybe i can check it later thanks for the suggestion.
can anybody criticize my pronunciation and accent. you don't have to deeply analyze it but i just wanna know if i sound understandable or not
i care about the accent but i care about speaking understandable more. i want people to understand me more easily so they can understand me without focusing on my words too much.
wow you definitely sound like you are from UK lol. you actually nailed it man good job.
Thank you!
I appreciate your kind words :) Hope my recording can also help uou with pronouncing the names! You can reference it for that
Btw, please don't call me 'man'; I'm a trans gal
can anyone feedback on this video, i know i need too much improvement and the accent is too much asian/desi. is it understandable and can you catch what i am saying
ohh okay i didn't know that so do i call you gal?
'gal' means 'girl', iss jus the fem version of the word 'guy'. You can call me 'girl', 'mate' (which I don't mind but some trans women might), 'friend' anything non-masculine :p
sometimes its clearly understandable sometimes its hard to understand. if you want to fix that i can suggest you a tongue twister routine that im currently using.i can also suggest another routine for better pronunciation. i think accent isn't the problem.
ohh thanks that definition was necessary lol. i haven't seen that word too many times before.
i don't even know that there's a word for that and I thought that girls call each other bro everytime
Yea what I was saying is that I'm a trans woman/girl lol. Iss fair you're not familiar with the term 'gal', it's not very common
boy - girl
man - woman
guy - gal
lad - lass
lass lol that definitely sounds german haha
thanks lass then
nope, these are all English! Iss jus that lass and gal aren't very common :>
Apparently it comes from Old Norse
thanks for teaching that. do you also know the male version of lad?
nono, lad is male
lass is female
oh yeah i forgot ah
i meant mam lol
it sounded like i wasn't paying attention to your explanation lol
Normally the masc version of ma'am is sir I think
it's not an exact match
But normally when refering to someone you don't know in American Englishh you use 'Ma'am' or 'Sir'
Remember, 'lass' is reallyy uncommon hehe
yeah probably but you know its meaning so i can say it to you :d
lass is more Scottish than Irish and I've only heard older people using 'lass,' and they definitely had a Scottish background
Lmao I like the word so I use it once in a blue moon
Good to know it sounds Scottish
I find the Irish and Scottish accents hard to understand but very interesting, so I don't mind learning more abt them
š§š·š§š·š§š·
eyyy brazilian person
There is no Brazil in 'rewards' my friend
Me
If you think
No like, Bertman asked you which part of the word 'rewards' you find hard to pronounce
Your answer was Brazil lmfao
No sorry š
Np
I didn't fully understand the question either, I really thought he was asking where I'm from.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Cheers for clearing this up on my behalf š

If you would send a recording of you trying to say it we can try to tell you what's wrong
I think your first r sounds like a w
The final d sounds like a t
The vowel should be a bit more round and lower
I don't know how to pronounce š I had a friend who lost patience with me trying this.
But I train to achieve it
Your second r was good
It's just the first
bruh dont trust him
you did good i dont really see an issue
só tem sotaque brasileiro né mas além disso não parece errado não
just one thing
the final d sounded like a t
Helpou hein š
Entendo, mas preciso praticar para pelo menos ficar compressĆvel
that was my point
Att
definitely compressĆvel
you could try with voice recognition to see if it understands it because i bet it would (that helped me with other languages a lot)
VocĆŖ Ć© perfeitamente compreensĆvel com sua pronĆŗncia atual. Dito isso, o primeiro āRā poderia ser dito com mais clareza, se vocĆŖ quiser soar mais nativo. Depende se isso importa ou nĆ£o para vocĆŖ :))
(Peço desculpas se isso não fizer sentido, pois usei um tradutor)
No need to translate but thanks, and the translation was understandable
Your pronunciation of the word is alright. It's understandable.
There were three issues, though:
- The first R sounded like a W. It would be best if you practiced word-initial R's in stuff like 'Ray' and 'Way', 'Woe' and 'Row', 'Rinse' and 'Wince'.
- Your vowel was a bit a bit too high and unrounded. That 'a' in 'reward' sounds like a low rounded 'o' sound in th back of your mouth. The way you said it, people might think you meant 're-word' as in 'phrase in a different way'. https://voca.ro/129fLDD2oSJr
- The final 'd' sounded like a 't'

eaĆ fellow english speaking humansĀ”! has anyone tried that boldvoice accent oracle thing? I've been obsessed with it for the past few days telling everyone to try it lol
It seems quite accurate, but I got Spanish once. It's very general and it doesn't actually tell you the country you're from, but rather a region. Other AIs can be either inaccurate or very accurate at times. I would say it's better to ask a human for feedback on your accent rather than an AI tool
it doesn't tell you the country but the language, the only exception I've noticed being Brazilian vs portuguese (i can apparently do a pretty consistently good brazilian accent lol)
asking someone is cool but also inaccurate. in English I've gotten generic american, irish, german, some sort of latino, and brazilian, so i don't actually think that's very accurate either. ive noticed that in general the average person doesn't really know enough to guess accurately, and if you tell someone you're this or that they WILL most of the time "analyze your accent" with that in mind
how's that?
what do you mean? like how good?
most of the time it guesses my accent correct even if when i don't my accent is obvious it guesses correct lol
however sometimes i got persian or swedish
whats the accent?
i get pissed of whenever it guesses correct tho its so annoying for me
RIGHT?
yeah fr
i just hate it but im going to keep trying time to time
isn't your accent american
it kinda sounds like that im no accent expert tho
i usually get english something something percent and spanish and russian
what do you get?
im curious because persian and Swedish makes me think hungarian or something
im from turkish
i can't say anything about it since im used to it but personally i really like asian languages and russian too
their words sounds so sweet
my favorite languages soundwise are probably persian hungarian and serbian (Croatian or bosnian whatever idc)
i want to be able to speak korean or japanese just because of their pronunciation and ig our grammar is mostly the same with korean and japanese
eh
from what i know about japanese theres way more.. guesswork? involved in the grammar than in turkish
a lot of information being omitted you know
i don't actually know it but as much as i know grammar is similar so its easier to learn but alphabets is the issue lol
yeaaa alphabetS
i don't think pronunciation would be a problem too
oh yea that seems really easy
korean pronunciation is interesting tho
i know theres like a shift happening right now
the aspirated and unaspirated stops are merging apparently
yeah it still gives me the same result nowadays im doing tongue twister to sound more natural and pronounce words more clearly
i think it's because ai man bro is way too smart
yupppp
if i keep trying i might get other accents
no but i feel like no one has gotten 100% english tho
wait im gonna do my pronunciation exercise and gonna try it again lol
that's crazy lol
you should try some random ones for fun like russian or something
yeah sometimes i do indian lol
sure wait
wait
i cannot send the voice record of it ig
i can read a random text if you want
and usually it guesses the accent correct but the other accents that it says %0 changes a lot on me
oh i mean you could just say whatever
russian swedish english persian kurdish
even though i do notice i sound a bit different when reading. worse in my case i think because i suck at reading out loud
i think that might just be random
idk
sometimes it says swedish and im like wtf how do they even talk
wdym tho i can read something out loud if you want
like i meant just talking spontaneously but yea that works
im just curious what you sound like
ohh lemme read something cuz i don't know what to say
sweden clearly
i don't completely know how turkish accent sounds like but i can spot them easily if they didn't practice on another accents
i think my problem is with the rhythm of the language
oh i agree with mr ai bro man
i should probably read out slower too
how can you spot that
persian because of the
wait uh
and the very "soft" sounding r which i actually really like
what do you mean by "internation" idk its meaning
i meant intonation
oh
idk its meaning too lol
let me send another one to sound a bit more natural
sometimes i pronounce the words from my throat maybe that's the reason of it
it's glitched i cannot listen to it
it's something that im not familiar with but i think its the rhythm and tone
my voice is too loud
wow i think that's the reason why sounding like native speakers is hard then
you gotta listen to them and speak with them a lot
i guess yea
i used to be able to change my accent pretty easily but now im stuck with the one i have
i mean you can probably do indian still :d
it might not sound natural
but you can do it :d
yeah the rhythm change and pronunciation change is really funny lol
it is more obvious on this one at the start
that was some terrible hindi right there
but some indians suck at hindi too so idc akdkskdks
lol
i mean you can make non indian people to believe that you are indian
yeah :d
im learning german if i learn a bit more i can sound like a native speaker since their pronunciation is not hard
so i can make some pranks
but they talk really fast
EHHHHHH i never found german that easy pronunciationwise
that's the hard part lol
i mean i usually see them talking really fast german
you mean you see them while talking english
they have really long words
says the turkish guy
man our words are pretty short
tamam bunu türkƧe sƶylemeye ƧalıÅayım
bunlar bana oldukça uzun kelimeler gibi görünüyor
wtf
did you translate that
i mean did it sound right?
wait let me listen to it
i mean the translation lol but yea judge my turkishness too
the struggle is real bro but im glad that you tried pronouncing that
GĆRĆYĆWHATEVERTHEFUCK
its understandable but i have to listen carefully
jdjdnddj
i mean i dont know what anything means so i dont know where to put emphasis yk
but i think i can do a pretty good job at the sounds themselves
you gotta say it slower but i get your point
SLOWER?
well then thats an easy fix
(what the heck does it even mean tho)
It seems
oh
right
makes sense
by pronouncing slower you practice the word by splitting it
na bruh i dont think ill ever be turkish :<
haha :d you nailed it man i see some foreigners trying to pronounce our words they struggle a lot
you sounded like you practiced it before
:d
now its much better görüNew York city yes man
that's surely how you pronounce it kol
lol
do a lot of people in turkey speak english?
yes you are good bro
no but nowadays young people speak more because of the social media and online games and stuff
but there's so many english speaking turkish people here that surprised me i think we like learning english
lets say i went to a local turkish traditional hair transplant facility
would they speak english
(you know about the turkey hair transplant memes right)
i don't know what they exactly do there
but private hospitals have translators for example and my brother is used to be one too
are they really good?
i think so idk apparently its a big thing tho
thats like one of the things your average internet user would know about turkey lol
other than š¦ jokes
in turkish that's Hindi right
y'all should start making hindiš¦ jokes about indians
because i've heard that our estheticians are really high quality and cheap so we foreigners usually visit turkey for that service
yeaaa
maybe but we call indians hindistanli or hintli ig
im not sure about the word hintli I haven't heard or saw it for years
why the l
oh i think its a unique feature of turkish for example we can call greek people yunan or yunanistanli (last i is without a dot but my keyboard is English)
yeah holy you made me realize that for example we can call american people amerikali or amerikan im pretty sure their meaning is completely the same or really similar
yeah
yeah lol
i haven't heard that word before but it might be lol
*braziliyalı i guess
brezilyali
brooo
you don't live in turkey right?
i think for example we say amerikali for people but amerikan for brands and other stuff
oh?
mostly i heard it like that
oh so apparently amerikan comes from french
while amerikalı is the regular turkish version
like amƩricain
i thought it was just the english word american with a k
apparently not
i think it comes from english
ohhh
but we really like to translate words into Turkish without changing much things on the word
yes sure
when speaking english do turkish people call it turkey? or do they conform to the governments demands to call it türkiye lol
would you say turkey?
i think most people would call turkey
yeah turkiye is turkey in turkish so it sounds weird for me
right?
i don't know why they tried change that
i think its weird too
so its not like
turkish people in general get offended when you call it turkey
š¦ turkey
oh and i remember this is like a bad word in Turkish
huh really
ƶrdek
whats the bad worddd
oh wait you'll get banned like me because i said the peru thing
peru is a word
people usually use "nah" like you cannot do that that's impossible and that word also has a hand sign like gang sings but its like middle finger sign
oh what? did you get banned?
no but im GOING TO
noo
for
peru
(its slang for uhhhhhhhhhhhh how do i say this so it sends...)
but also the bird
and the country of peru
and i have NO idea where the slang usage comes frok
from
it makes 0 sense
a slang word
don't use nah in daily conversation btw it's a really mean thing and people usually use it like" nah you can do it"(this means you cannot do it by being ironic)
i usually say na actually
na I'm good
yea no yea whatever its fine idc do whatever idc its whatever
my average response to a human person
it's fine even if you say nah but then say something like that people wouldn't get offended since nah is usually used with a sentence or with a word
sounds good :d
my new favorite word
or
term
i guess
two words
is
lil bro
ive been calling everyone lil bro recently
i like to call people same words over and over like bro or man
my phone is about to die imma send you friend req
so many messages :0
yeah we chatted for a while
how to use it. i've never heard about it
oh just look up boldvoice accent oracle. you read the text it gives you, sometimes it tells you you're special (rude lol) and you have to read a second one
the results are in percentages of how likely it thinks it is that you speak a specific language
lemme know what you get heh
yeah sure
guys i am a bit confused between learning the British accent and the American.
ik the difference between them but i dunno which one should i choose
Now Im learning english for 2,5 months by active learning. Recently I understood how much my accent sucks. My Russian is going from my English as much as fuck, so this is bullshit. However it's quite hard thing, yk.
Has anybody achieved the perfect pronunciation here?
And is there any recourses for learning British accent?
If you could be share information I would be really thankful to you.
-I'm sorry for mistakes, if I had
i don't know your english level but i think you should ignore focusing on accent until you build a good vocabulary and good pronunciation
i suggest you to do tongue twisters regularly to get good at pronunciation or you can also read out loud english books or any text for 5 minutes regularly but you gotta overdo your mouth movements and read out loud slowly
nowadays i hear tongue twister suggestions too much and last suggestion that i gave is from a communication skills teacher
he also mentions that accent isn't the problem but pronunciation
Thatās true the knowledge before then the accent otherwise you wonāt progress at all itās no easy for foreigners to have a perfect English accent but as long as they understand what youāre saying thereās no problem
I feel like the next step to learning is developing an accent, as it makes you more clearer and easy to understand
An English accent I mean
That's a good answer bro
gn bae, love uā”
Wrong chat, perchance?
I don't think so lol
Guys, I need some help and advice it's my first time trying to seek help I'm Middle Eastern and I want to improve my pronunciation my problem usually is that I can read and understand the word in my head but some words that are typically long or have weird sounds I can't read for the life of me and I make the wrong sounds I think I'm fluent in English been reading English for a long time but one someone tells me to read out loud its a mess and then I know how a word is supposed to sound but I can't make the sounds it's making me go crazy and it's making my life hell.
are you trying to learn specific words or just that happens with all of them
How do you say Thought?
āthaw-tā
For me, I prefer American accent cuz somehow it makes me remember the words longer when pronouncing the word according to this accent.
But britsh accent sounds cool
Better than Brazilian
Choose any accent that you're comfortable with and that is understandable to others. If it's not understandable, there's no point in using it.
But hereās the thing, I like the American accent more since it flows more smoothly to my ear, sounds more friendly and is more commonly used than British accent but when it comes to actually imitating the accent, I seem to be doing better in the British accent?? (Do you think so too? Iām curious about your opinion)
British accent slays the American one
my casual is American accent caz ppl tend to understand me more than the British one
"massive ear embolism is caused by pumping from an empty reservoir, and is treated by ceasing pumping and commencing ..."
it's rather clean
no problems
except for these last few words, but I suppose these are some latin medical terms so that's always difficult to get. Sounds like "retro... cerebral perfusion" or something
It's really understandable and sounds American, but I can hear a slight hint of an Asian accent. Are you from Asia?
Itās not exactly a Latin term, but it probably has Latin roots
Retrograde cerebral perfusion
Iām from Asia, yes. What gave it away? š
How do I fix my speaking voice tho? I sound so monotonous, like Iām dead inside lol
There's just something about your accent that gives that impression, though I can't quite put my finger on it. It's just little hints here and there. I'd say you could pass as an Asian from Canada or the U.S.
As for making your voice sound less monotonous, American accents are generally flat, but it depends on the region. A Canadian accent has more ups and downs. If you want to sound more natural, try a regional American accent from a state where a lot of Asians live, just not California. It's pretty clear you're not from there because the California accent has certain traits that you don't have. Pick a state people don't know much about and try to match that accent. But overall, your accent is solid for someone from Asia.
You just need to have a native speaker role for me to assume English is your first language. If you did, I wouldn't focus so much on your accent. But since you have a beginner role, I notice it more, as I pay more attention.
In general, I don't pay much attention to accents unless something sounds off. But if something sounds super unnatural, I start wondering what's wrong.
so what you're saying is, my accent is good enough to successfully spy on your country's DoD?
just kidding lol
I am from Ireland
and you don't sound Irish
How do I improve my voice tho?
don't spy on Ireland!
I don't think your voice sounds bad. It might just come across as more monotone and laid-back, which is not a bad thing. I would say keep it if you want to sound more American because it sounds a bit flat to me, which is a good thing when trying to develop an American accent.
I think it sounds emotionless
or if it's not, then it's absolutely not engaging
I think Americans are still expressive though, e.g., Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street
But he is an actor. They have professional accent and voice coaches.
Is it natural to speak like that when you're hyped up?
It's like I forgot how to sound friendly, welcoming, hyped, and ecstatic lol
https://www.oed.com/dictionary/castle_n?tab=factsheet#10052407
why 'T' isn't spoken?
The OED is the definitive record of the English language, featuring 600,000 words, 3 million quotations, and over 1,000 years of English.
You sound fairly natural. How long have you been learning English? Just out of curiosity, because I havent met many Asians with a good accent on this server
Hi, Im Violeta from Argentina
Iām not sure how to answer that lol
Some Asian countries are bilingual

Hey can anyone tell me how i should learn the american accent? I am intermediate level english speaker
Your accent and pronunciation are way too good for someone who just started learning English, so I wouldn't think you're a beginner. Either you've been exposed to it from an early age or you've been learning it for years
I guess the former
I chose my role because I have no clue how to test myself lol
You're doing a great job trolling the British, bro š
if i have your accent i will troll them xd
Very funny
They're right
Just curious, which part of northern England are you from?
I'm from Lancashire
I see
U take that back
They're right
Hi guys, I can do English conversations easily. As I'm not born in an English speaking country I've learned the standard foreigners RP.
I've asked ChatGPT to search or make a few tongue twisters in informal British English to up my pronunciation game.
Unfortunately, there's no AI voice to say these out loud so I can copy them. Is there someone in here who could have a go on these sentences once I pasted them here?
Hola a todos. soy nueva aquĆ, asĆ que agradecerĆa si alguien me pudiese explicar cual es el modo de interactuar en esta comunidad.

I am looking for a Native English Speaker who can teach me, it will be paid
Please let me know if you are available for teaching
@river lance see if this works
- Aināt nevah seen no beāah biā oā bread geā buāah spread so quick.
- Didja see 'ow 'e goā 'is liāle caā fixed aā tha' quick shop dahn the road?
- Me bruvvah tolā me I go''a watch meself when Iām talkinā 'round 'ere.

- Tha' caā donā even go no more, whyās he still tryinā ta sell iā?
- Me auntie says I goā ta bring 'er tha' boāle oā milk from thaā corner shop, innit?
Just generated a few things on ChatGPT to make a few Estuary lines.
1: aint never seen no better bit of bread get butter spead so quick.
Or atleast that's what it should say
Do you know a few lines, both written and spoken that show how to talk more fluent using tongue twisters without getting American? Similar like these overdone lines.
Haha, of course, but these don't show how to talk like an actual Englishman as it's written in RP. That's the kind I tend to revert to as it's also the kind foreigners use
They make sense. Here are the properly spelt versions below. I would agree they're overly stereotypical, but they aren't nonsense. Not everyone knows how to read the IPA, so saying 'just use IPA' is a bit silly, especially when it's a tool mainly meant for linguistis not learners of languages (though both can benefit from it)
- Aināt never seen no beter bit of bread get butter spread so quick.
- Did you see how he got his little car fixed at that quick shop down the road?
- Me brother told me I gotta watch myself when Iām talking around here.
- Sheād at least throw a bit of butter on his bit of bread if she werenāt so miserable.
- What you doing with that bottle of water, bruv?
- If you got a better idea, you better let me know now, mate.
- Oi, I aināt never seen no one get his money back from that bloke!
- Just gimme a little bit more time and Iāll sort it all out, alright?
- That car don't even go no more, whyās he still trying to sell it?
- My auntie says I got to bring her that bottle of milk from that corner shop, innit?
Never said such a thing. IPA is not needed for learning pronuncation, and many learners don't use it. It's also not something everyone can read, so 'just use IPA' is not a proper solution
I think vlogs are your best bet if you don't want that classical sort of pronuncation. Tongue twisters are helpful for learning sounds you can't make, but they don't generally tend to teach entire accents
Dont Care about that as long as I don't get sluggish American like
Yeah, but videos on how to use your mouth don't do that either. That's why I'm searching for tongue twisters as they're easy to remember and do a lot more native sounding pronunciation compared to the RP every foreigner was thought.
Also, that's why I'd hoped for someone to read these sentences out loud, even if they don't make sense and are overdone to really learn how to talk like an Englishman as nobody will apply everything these sentences use to all their conversations.
Only fools and horses?
Cause?
It is the regional non-RP sound I'm trying to go for
Meaning?
Pronunciation is mainly learnt through imitation. Just reading tongue twisters won't really teach you a casual, low-class English accent. You need to listen to people who speak in your target accent and repeat after them, note differences between your speech and theirs and try to eliminate them, and look up typical features of their accent and incorporate them into your speech. Tongue twisters indeed are helpful, but only insofar as becoming consistent at the basic phonemes you cannot produce consistently: say you struggle with the voiceless th sound (the 'th' of 'think') but can sort of produce it, using a tongue twister to practice it would be a perfect use of one. Tongue twisters can get you used to an unfamiliar sound, minimal pairs can get you used to the difference between similar sounds, and imitation can help with the rest (intonation, accent acquisition, and so on). I'd recommend you listen to native speakers whose accent is the one you aspire to acquire every day and use them as a point of reference for how you change your speech
Based on what I'm aiming for, do you know someone who has a daily program or online video?
Which?
Preferably BBC as I don't really get a lot as I'm not in an English speaking country
Yeah, just saw that. Tnx. That's the kind of British I should aim for?
Can I just start watching tonight or is there a background I should be aware of?
True
why many of you choose the British accent over the American accent
Cause it's an English rip-off
