Alright gonna delete it before someone Leaks location
Where are you from it defo impacts it,I say listen to pod casts repeat it yourself and you get the hang of it
Ofc I am mate
Thanks
everyone has an accent, lol
you have the accent of wherever you're from
Or wherever you grew up, anyway
I ussualy recommend shadowing, listening a bunch to the accent you want, and learning the differences between your target accent and your current accent
That last one can be done with the help of others
Thanks
š thanks
Noted, have tried something like this a couple of times.
Would really appreciate it if anybody could review these and let me know their opinion on :-
1)what areas I can work on to neutralise my accent better.
2)Is my speech good enough to be understood?
3) Comments on my pronunciation of
Ts and Ds ,Th sounds , and word stress. Been struggling with these 3 bits the most as my native languages have none.
https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english-spanish/answer
second 00:24 where you say "questions and answers" you use the "a" and say the "r", check the pronunciation here on this website to see what I meant, I hope it makes sense
https://youglish.com/pronounce/answer/english/uk
this is the tool I use to check on any pronunciation for words that I have questions about, you can see that most UK speakers use the "no r" pronunciation, some can actually still say it, but is not very common.
..

Thank you so much for taking your time to review, this was very helpful . I'll work on my enunciation more! ā
As for the bit about me pronouncing the Rs , to tell you the truth I forced the Rs in š despite being very accustomed to dropping them where they are usually dropped in British English
I've been following this YouTube playlist for reading practice and the speaker is a British guy but with a rhotic accent!
But you are right, I think I'm better off not pronouncing them since that's a lot more common and I'm already used to doing that. Thanks again š
This is such a useful resource,.
@quiet scaffold @quaint crane
thanks queeny š«¶š¼
I mean you can follow him, but I'm not sure what resources will have a mixed accent, that would be a bit harder to find that's all
Any advice on how i can speak in British accent?
My accent is kindaa south asian
im no expert but the biggest differences i can think of from the top of my head are
- south asians tend to (for example) say āoh my gahtā instead of āoh my godā, the o in god is drawn out and the d isnāt given enough emphasis.
- another basic difference is (for example) āhelloā is pronounced āhellooā, it tends to be drawn out and it should end with an āohā sound.
if you can prevent that then youāll be a bit more understandable to native speakers but your accent is something that will stick with you unless you spend a ton of unnecessary time on it
In the sentence " I have a question for you?"
Can the word 'have' be reduced to its weak form, hÉv or the contracted form 've' .
I have heard that when 'have' is the main verb it's not contracted or reduced to its weak form but at the same time I feel like I have heard people saying
"I've a question for you" from native speakers. Can anybody tell whether this sounds natural to them or not?
It depends on the region, but I would drop the āhā and say āI ave a question for youā. The contracted āveā is more of a British thing to me idk
Iām American lol
Sorry I was not replying to you, forgot to tag the person
Ahhh
Hey, I'm south asian and have been trying to learn the British accent too.
You can get started by watching some youtube videos that teach the British accent.
There are a lot of things that make an accent sound a certain way!
But if I have to narrow down what makes British English distinct from the English you normally hear in South Asia then it would be :-
1)Pronounciation of Vowels
2)Pronunciation of Consonants
3)Intonation & word stress
4) other nuances from aspiration to weak forms.
So you can specifically look for these topics on such channels
I wanted to know if it would sound natural to reduce the vowel in 'have' to more of a 'huv' sound in the sentence "I have a question for you"
Do you suggest any channels or creators?
Nah thatād be weird

Do you have any questions about the prog...
I see , thanks
doesn't sound right to me
idk
I'd say
uh'v'a question
I hate that thumbnail, smh, it's stereotyping Brits as saying 'bo'l o' wa'uh' all the time :/
Ok then, it's consistent with the main verb rule I learnt.
So, it also depends on the pace of English spoken, right?
If I'm speaking slow I wouldn't say 'uh'v'a', yeah
That ship has long been sailed.š„²
I speak ina slightly British accent (not a native so its flawed), and omg some ppl are so annoyingg
like
I once met this dude in a vc who did an immitation of me
he basically moaned and did a shitty immitation of a posh accent
I believe she clarifies that it's only a regional Pronunciation in the video and not standard.
then another dude started screaming 'bottle of water' over and over š
š I'm sorry lol
Yeah ppl are weird lmfao
thas good, yea
I suppose we can't blame her for wanting views
so the thumbnail makes sense
I am not aware of what a posh accent is
Upperclass British accent
Royalty accent lol
What kind of label is it lol
Are you from Asia btw?
wdym
Why is it regarded as "Royalty accent"?
cuz it's spoken by them lol
By the royals themselves?
hm ok
Spend some time there maybe?
I like the British accent
I watched a lot of British content
I learnt the British accent
idk what your deal is lol
you don't need history to pick an accent
Pardon me, but using "How come" is a bit disappoving
Did not know that!
I'm sorry
You should omit that
'you guys don't even' also sounded pretty aggressive lol
Yea but would be alright if it was an informal speech
Oh ok noted but I really didn't mean to
Just curious what motivated you.
Since people from other parts of the world seldom go for the British accent over American
alrighty
Dw, just replace "come" with the word "do"
Yeah, just watched a bunch of British content and found myself sounding a bit British, then I realised I like the sound of SSB more than General American, so I started trying to sound more British, and overtime I did lol
I don't need history to choose an accent
jus what I like
to answer 'Just curious what motivated you'
I see
How did you practise the British accent that you were trying to master?
I continued to watch British Youtubers and would repeat after them, I posted some clips of me speaking and got told which vowels sound off, and I learnt some American and British English differences in pronunciation to be sure I stay away from the American way
I still say privacy AmE way sometimes tho, smh
And I'll always say tomato like Americans
Since you are from an Arabic-speaking country, you must have been opposed by impediments along you way to mastering the British accent
I have learnt only the "IPA" for the time being
I learnt it online, so no one opposed me lol
Yeah it's really useful
Lol okay
It must have taken you long in that case
It helps in reading as well as listening to
don't think that's an upper class phenomena to be honest
Yeah, t-glottalisation is common in Londoners
But not an upperclass thing at all
My accent is less like the Londoner accent, so I don't do intervocalic t-glottalisation, but only word-final t-glottalisation
So they weren't really justified in even comparing it, lol, but some people just hear 'British English' and that's what comes to mind
They were simply trying to craft their personal opinion into a generalised opinion
yeah that's tactless indeed
okay I'm going for the american accent šāāļø (I tried ) would love to know about your opinion and where I can improve
lots of your As (in like nonchalant (i probably could've picked a better word)) should be switched to the a in something like "cat"
ohh I see thank you so much !
pronouncing your Rs can help too
okayyy I'll keep improving hehe
like in the word "harsh"
Hi I am new here I wanna to improve my English especially spoken
Itās mostly comprehensible. I would stray away from trying to have a specific accent tbh.
ohhh why that
Honestly I kinda think that no matter what youāll have an accent in your non-native language. It makes more sense to focus on fluidity than on attaining a specific accent.
some people who are not from America learned the accent I think it depends how hard you learn for example I'm from Germany and still can Polish fluently whithout an accent šāāļø I just need to practice more I guess
I mean I guess. I just think that English is such a common language, nobody really bats an eye when someone has an accent.
I know It's not a bad thing to have I just like not to have an accent
I'd say that the big problem is when somebody doesn't understand you, but it's not necessarily such a problem if the other person gets what you're saying. Especially if they understand it rather easily. I have seen people who are from different countries, and they ended up being together, speaking English as their language of communication even tho they're both non-native speakers and both have their own accents. They often communicate well, despite having two distinct accents lol
you're good, I sense a German right there lol. Easily understandable
this one might be subjective but your "three hours" sounded like "free hours"
f and th are not the same sounds
The context made it clear tho
So no worries
lmaooo yeah I hate it that people can hear it pahaha
brooo true the german have problems with the "th"
lmaoo with practice I'll get better (I hope)
it could be because my uncle and a few cousins are germans, am polish
therefore i heard german accent many times
ommggg you're polish too that's so cool
lmaoo
makes me wonder if your polish is really without a foreign accent lol. Doesn't really matter but
it's because my parents are from poland and I was born in Germany
oh yeah, this would make sense
š“ļø btw can you tell me where you can here that I sound german I think it would help me ? If you want
Oh, I thought Germans used [s] for /Īø/?
Did this person perhaps learn to th-front
How many languages other than English have /Īø/?
Arabic has it, Icelandic does, Modern Greek does too
I think Hebrew has it
not sure
We use it as /ऄ/ š
a letter in the Hindi alphabet
'We', here refers to Indians
looking online, that's an aspirated t, not a dental fricative?
idk, I haven't studied sounds
I see
Acording to this, this language called 'Wancho' uses that letter to represnt /Īø/, but otherwise, Hindi doesn't have /Īø/, and in Hindi āØą¤„ā© is used to represnt /tʰ/
@cobalt pollen
yeah neither have I
but it';s the onlt lang I found that uses āØą¤„ā© for /Īø/
I'm guessing you're mispronuncing /Īø/ in English
the 'th' in 'think'
no
since you compared it to āØą¤„ā©'s sound
I know that Indians pronounce the 'th' incorrectly whether it is 'think' or 'there'
I didn't compare /Īø/ to the sound of āØą¤„ā©, I only stated that Indians pronounce /Īø/ as āØą¤„ā©
But I forgot to mention that it's incorrect
this didn't really say 'we use the sounds that ऄ makes in place of /θ/'
we were talking about the sound in other languages
so ofc I assumed you meant that in another language /θ/ is ऄ
Either way, misunderstanding
But yeah, I've answered your question ig? It's used in a few well-known languages but isn't a very common sound
as for this
a fricative is a sound that is made by pushing air between articulators in the mouth that are sort of close to each other but not entirely closed, so it's a continuous stream of sound with a high degree of friction
Examples are
/s/, /f/, /l/, /v/, /Ź/, etc.
they contrast with stops/plosives
which are complete closure, then sudden release
like /t/, /d/, /k/, /b/, etc.
Castilian Spanish also uses this sound.
thank you!
Modern Standard Arabic has about 3
The th that you would pronounce in thanks, another one in that, and a heavier th thatās not easy to pronounce
yes, that's the emphatic voiced dental fricative
I'm a native Arabic speaker
It's basically the voiced dental fricative with slight pharyngealisation
Meaning you do the 'th' in 'that' and retract the base of your tongue a little
I forgot we have that
Noice
It would be easy if y'all use voice notes
Vocaroo is easier alongside discord voice notes
I think your phone doesn't have a voice recorder

You didn't say much
But the stress in the word okay sounds off
Look out for the intonation
yes its great, nice
hello everyone
What do you mean, if I may ask?
What would have been made easier by using voice notes?
Your pronunciation does okay quite well girl
Yea, that's great. The stress at the very start felt a bit off, but otherwise, this was great and 100% intelligible
@ember hatch which accent is the most intimidating
Not sure lol
I want people to be as non racial as they can be lol
Btw could you explain that ^
It means that people should use voice notes to get their pronunciation tested
Ohh
But we were talking about sounds
Not discussing pronunciation
Yes, I overlooked the text
thanks queeny, i was worried that my pronunciation was really off
Your pronunciation is good and intelligible
But there's always room for improvement
The first few seconds I thought your voice msg was a TTS
You mean my pronunciation is not got and i should work on it?
it sounds like youve put er in every word
so if you eliminate this it will be more clear
er
rate my pronunciation out of 10 as someone whos just started English
any feedback would be appreciated
Itās alright, you just need to open your mouth more and get rid of the āerā.
Since you are at the āadvancedā level, Iāll be judging you in accordance with the C1 - C2 range.
For starters
- you need to open your mouth more and actually try to say the letters and the vowels
- The th sound in ātheā, I havenāt heard the āthā but rather sounded like a ādā.
-Lastly, it seems like you were rushing
was that 'no chit-chat'?
kinda sounded like 'chip pap' lol
Maybe I'm bad at listening lol
no chia pet pussy
its this video where this old lady mishears some guy talking about chia pudding

i was going for Spanish
u didnt feel the vibe?
I'm awful at this
they could go skiing with those š
100% intelligible

Horrible
Decent
Also horrible
The British accent sounded very stereotypical and the Australian one sounded weird
Iām Canadian btw
Iāve loads of friends from the UK and Australia, I can tell when an accent becomes stereotypical
Does my American accent sound weird and stereotypical?
No, the stereotypical wouldāve been the surfer accent or the valley girl accent. However, whilst listening to your recording Iād concluded that you were actually trying since youād spoken faster in an āAmerican accentā than the other two accents.
I think my āAmerican accentā sounds ridiculous, even more ridiculous than my British accent
Nah it sounds the best to me of the three
You can try recording again in an Australian accent, or even a British accent but try to avoid stereotypes.

And if you want to spice things up, try an accent from Canada or Ireland.
Is there any improvement
It sounds awful
But itās hard for me to tell what went wrong
Itās good
Donāt beat yourself over it
I can hear the intonation which is good
Your British accent makes me want to rip my ears out and sob as I bleed out
Your American accent is good
I prefer this
As Scella had mentioned, the British accent does not sound good on you to the point that itās ear-grating.

Now I want someone to judge my British accent
Feel free to send a voice memo here bud
Hi. Newbie here. Firstime using cord. and i want to learn english
yeah well, I'm going for a New York accent and the "The" sound is pronounced as da. Also you're right I seem to rush because sounding slow makes you sound less of a native, doesn't it?
Also I forgot to mention the final -r, New Yorkers usually donāt pronounce it and tend to pronounce it like the British. Their accent is non-rhotic
And about the ātoo slowā part, that is true but also sounds forced if youāre rushing. Try watching YouTube videos on how to mimic a New Yorker accent with the preferable pace and tone
Iād say go for a happy medium
It can be pronounced as da in any accents if you speak fast
probably
no just that it kinda sounds computerized haha
try to be more lively, put a bitta expression into it ig
I want to develop my pronunciation. What should i do?
I can say my pronunciation is good for 70% but i want to develop myself more.
Hi guys, i have a question , de se pronounce words like studying, drinking..... we should pronounce the ing or not?
Please reply on my question
Iām not even British, Iām just someone with a foreign accent studying in the UK but I think this is terrible too sorryā¦
None of my British classmates speak like that
Formally you should but in informal speech you can reduce it to ā-inā if you like
Even formally it's a velar nasal not /n/
It's /n/ with g-dropping
Which happens in some accents
But I think my British accent is very elegant.
You have a native speaker, and two other people at the advanced level telling you otherwiseā¦
No offence, but I think that if you were travelling to the United Kingdom whilst speaking like that to the British. They would be pissed that someoneās imitating the stereotypical British accent, rather than trying at an authentic one.
:
1/10 you are trying wayy to hard
9/10 its pretty good
0.5/10 didnt even get any australian fr prob even 0
What wouldāve help whilst playing back the recordings, is having some sort of dialogue to go along with it whilst listening to the recordings.
This wouldāve made it easier to judge, with more critique involved.
honestly i think you should stick to the American accent it seems to come really natural to you
even I as a native find it hard to mimic other accents so dont be hard on yourself
^
This
I cannot for the life of me, mimic American accents

dont get me started with the British
OH and australian i have no idea how they do it
Yes itās similar but I have a different vowel inventory as most Canadians do
I can only mimic them stereotypically
šÆ
If Iād wanted to become stereotypical with an Australian accent I wouldāve went along the lines of āA SIX FOOāER A NOINE MAāEā

Mate is the most australian thing i know
Theyāve stolen that from the Brits eh bud

oh LOOOOL š š so ig not so much australian anymore
šŗšø: Whatās new pal
šØš¦: Howāre ya bud
š¬š§: Howāve you been mate
š¦šŗ: Howāre ya going mate

ig uk and australia are twins after all
I wonder how they say this exact phrase in New Zealand English

no ideaa!!
Also ireland and scotland have u seen how they speak english
I definitely have and I must say that the urban accents are easier to understand. However, whatās more difficult are the rural accents which I usually have trouble with.
Usually itās because they speak too fast for my ears to even get a chance to comprehend what theyāre saying to me
Because as you know Canadians are slow talkers
yeaah fr I noticed they kinda mumble but not really at the same time
and there tone too is very interesting
Btw have you heard of the Newfoundland accent?
Something special happens every time two Newfoundlanders meet in the Mainland
This video shows exactly that.

oooh are they the ones that actually say aboot instead of about
Cork, Waterford & Wexford all in one.
Newfoundland is considered to be the most Irish place outside of Ireland with itās similar dialect, music, traditions & culture in general. Also being the only place outside of Europe with an Irish name ātalamh an Ć©iscā
WHAA i can barely get half of the word HAHA hey speaak veryy fast
they give u american cowboy accent vibes
Newfoundland had a clusterfuck of different dialects depending on the county š, accents tend to be thicker for someone whoās grown up in a rural area, or is part of the elderly
The thicker it is, the more difficult it becomes
Cockney accent is funny too
ohh okayy interesting tht kinda make sense
ooooh i wonder how this sounds its prob very british
but has a lot nasal sounds maybe they speak from there nose if tht makes sense

some words like
twofer
inside of a Mickey and manyy moree

Dozens š

cannt wait for someone to take the time and try to figure it out
Good fuckinā luck bud
they are in for a treat HAHAHA
Hi
Can someone evaluate my pronunciation and intonation shadowing?
I honestly feel bad for whoever I interacted with in my whole lifespan because they had to hear my annoying kid voice
Welp, that was horrific to listen to
This one is better than the other one but still bad
Please can I get an expert to pinpoint what is inaccurate with my pronunciation in each word - I'm trying to go for an American accent
Itās impossible for anyone else to mimic it
Like fully
The same with the Canadian accent since it has some quirks to it
And slightly different vowels that sound different to their American counterpart
Itās quite good
The one thing that I would suggest is adding more emotion into it
As that clip is very emotional for the both of them
Is my pronounciation ok?
How do I make it sound more American
yours is really good, well done! Ill take a closer look tomorrow
Ah yes speaking of British accent
Vocaroo is a quick and easy way to share voice messages over the interwebs.
Is this alright? Havenāt practiced in so long tbh
Especially for British accent Iāve only been developing it during these few months cuz 80% of my classmates are British now
Try using the same pronunciation but with the rhythm and pacing you use in your American accent
Aka be more natural
I think youād sound a lot better that way
Your ability to imitate sounds is actually pretty good, itās just the flow
Just my opinion tho, idk if natives would think the same
I donāt like my American accentItās ridiculous.
My American accent is an insult to any Americans out there
Nooo itās really decent trust me š
Sounds a lot better than mine actually
If you come to the UK youāll understand

Your British accent is an insult to the English language
Your American one is actually good lol
Sounds quite delightful
Nvm check this out instead
Vocaroo is a quick and easy way to share voice messages over the interwebs.
Hiii, so i have a question about the pronunciation of the word "was" because I'm pronouncing it like it is written so [was] and my English teacher told me that it's [wos]
Most of the time, I just use the weak pronunciation
/wÉz/
@astral glen
I think your teacher was definitely using the British emphasized pronunciation /wÉz/
With the vowel in sock
But Americans pronounce it like /wÉĖz/
Like in father
you have to remember there are many variations on how words are spoken
Alright thank you very much for explaining this to mešš»
itās better yeah
...
Well better than last time at least
But sounds very forced and put on
Is mine an insult too? Or cringe?
Or simply not good enough
No yours sounded fine imo, it's a bit unclear what you're saying though
A premonition of what [??] was going to do next [??] automatically and effortlessly. You did not intend to [??] or to anticipate what she might do
Btw, your first vowel in premonition was off
Felt like a bit rounded (?)
It should be a schwa
Or bot a schwa, a bed vowel
You pronunciation is good, but your intonation is kinda off
Like in the words (do, not, assess, ect..)
Intonation isn't done solely by raising your pitch
I don't know how to explain it myself
Maybe stressing the word out some more instead
Guys we pronounce and but sometimes we pronounce just an without pronouncind letter d.
Could you explain to me?
You mean at the end of the word?
Like past tense
Why do we sometimes say 'and' without the 'd' at the end?
That's what they're asking
I believe
No i dont the verb to end.
I'm talking about the word and.
Sometimes we pronounce and but sometimes we omit letter t and we pronounce and as an
To smoothen the speech
And it totally depends what it's followed by
If d followed by th
Then it becomes a stop
Thanks
Howās my moist critical impression?
Howās my British accent? Iāve been working so hard practicing it
Howās my Australian accent? I think I get it right this time.
@tight dome It's not gonna change overnight
.
You're a baguette harry
nice accent :o
I'm learning BrE but I suck lmao
You lost me there cause I donāt understand the British accent
You somehow added an m in the spell's name
wait it has an m lmao
Had to look it up to check
I certainly am not fit to teach any spells
Yeah she is
I've got to re-watch the movies. I've forgotten much of what happened
I'd like to read the books, butI 'm not much of a reader
I don't š
I cant send in other channels
Yeah, same here
drunk ahh pronunciation
The second voice message is my British accent
The vowel in 'watching' was pretty American
I tried really hard
And over-emphasised
What about the first voice message?
Fine Iāll learn the American accent
If you really want to learn BrE then go for it
but it'll take a while
I think your normal accent is pretty good
really good
Are you a British?
Snape bro
This ain't harry potter and the deathly hallows part 2
Judging by your picture, you're still a kid
This gotta be the most American āKoreanā accent Iāve ever heard lmao, youāre actually doing amazing but you just donāt realise
I am, and that was shit ngl mate
shit, ngl, sounds like your drunk and forcing it, just go american.
Wtf, if you try that here mate, your getting beaten to a pul, sounds posh and forced
you doing rp sounds natural at least
no certian britsh accent ,the ones most people aim for is posh/rp london
"L2 attrition is the loss of one's second language, which can result from cross-interference from L1 or even from an additional third learned language ("L3"). Unlike L1 learning and attrition, L2 learning and attrition is not a linear phenomenon and can begin in multiple ways: vocabulary loss, weakened syntax, simpler phonetic rules, etc."
Thanks, a canuck
Please give me advice on how I can improve my accent - I'm going for an American accent
prob yeah, im from the west midlands, he sounds like a person forcing an rp on him
i can legit send you vidoes of me speaking and it sounds way diffrnet ngl
Feel free to
thx
If I remember the West Midlands has it softer correct?
Correct me if Iām wrong
Because Iām from Canada and donāt know much about regional British accents
has softer like the r
glottal yes
i prounce
harry potter, like harry pot-er
yea
Slow down š
Then why try mimicking something that you canāt understand
It makes you look foolish, no offence
Ah
pretty much, im working class glottal user
this is what i say it like
yeah advise if you lot try to get a rp accent and go to london, your baso gonna get questions from us briths sayng why did you do posh
@ancient ravine Yeah i send it to you
let me send the harry potter one
do you want me to give it you a vidoe of me speaking
How can I fix my accent
You slow down
your just tooo fast,
I dont reaily know anythng about american accents, so yeah, dont rely on me
forcing the speed ruins the accent
I say it like an American
Harry podder
I used to try to do fast, I sounded like shit

i mean cannada and amercia sound so similiar
Can you vc?
And help me wtih my accent?
haary paaddr
yeah i send it you in dms
i do know the troules with accents
I can't VC, sorry
True, the more east you go the more obvious the Canadian accent
So many people are asking you for help š
Can someone VC and help me wtih my accent :(
yeah the more isolated areas with less populatons
have way less american influence
I cant sorry, anyways, just say it slower your accent is ok
Aw ok :(
alright let me call youy
Accept my friend request first
did it mate
Thank you so much
Yeah atp idk if heās tryna flex his American accent in the weirdest way possibleš§
Yea lmfao, could be it
HAHAHAHAHA
Also notice how his grammar is on point? Most of the beginners Iāve encountered here have terrible grammar ngl, but that isnāt the case for him lmao
yea they aren't a beginner, for sure
the way i copied is pretty simple actually. i just listened to them and follow lips and sounds that i heard. i don't aim to be like 100% because I'm not native and never be. it's not possible. I just do it for fun hehehe.
Teach me how to not be forced then
I did my best
Because I really love the British accent?
Then learn it authentically
Donāt mimic the āBoāle of waāerā bs

Itās just too forced
I didnāt
Thatās a really good British accent Iām so jealousš
ššššš
much sobbing
Bro what did u said i can't even hear you
Itās Shakespeare
Could someone teach me how to pronounce avaliable?
Do not listen to this ^ weirdo; they are doing a very weird accent
Itās not weird itās just a British accent
Yeah sure buddy
No it ain't
where r u guys from?
Going hard on the vocal fry :p
I get that from a lot of people I have a very natural vocal fry
Anyways, do you all think this sounds fine?
Sounds good š
Alrighty thanks
Btw does it sound British?
You're copying is pretty decent lol
I'm no expert, but I think you nailed the bottle of water part
The former or the latter? š
I said it twice lol
But ye, thank you
The latter is spot on
Thanks
A bit too much emphasis on 'bottle', I feel
Okay
uh vay luh bl
See vay is the part you messed up
I didn't hear the y in vay
You said it like avalable
Makes sense?
Need to practice more
If you can say the name of this letter: A
Put that sound after v
Some sounds are difficult for me
Vey
Yea you'll learn over time
This is good. Your pronunciation is clear and every word is understandable.
Can anyone, perhaps, point out some flaws (:
When in the chronicle of wasted time
I see descriptions of the fairest wights,
And beauty making beautiful old rhyme
In praise of ladies dead and lovely knights,
Then, in the blazon of sweet beauty's best,
Of hand, of foot, of lip, of eye, of brow,
I see their antique pen would have express'd
Even such a beauty as you master now.
So all their praises are but prophecies
Of this our time, all you prefiguring;
And, for they look'd but with divining eyes,
They had not skill enough your worth to sing:
For we, which now behold these present days,
Have eyes to wonder, but lack tongues to praise.
Itās good. Just one suggestion- the word āmakingā in āand beauty makingā¦ā was a bit unclear (sounded like mah-king or lacking). Try pronouncing it as āmay-kingā for better clarity.
how the fuck do i know mate, i ant a posh rp speaker, ima black county (county in england if anyone don't know) speaker.
just follow the lips and sound like he has
I dont speak rp english, im from birmingham so i have brummie dialect and accent.
yeah i use the glottal t rather than saying with a t, its the made fun of, its just the way we say certain things with a glottal t.
sounds like your drunk or something
ima native british person from the black county, im telling you im 15 and if this guy comes to where i live and try this, half the times he might get called posh and chased away or made fun
In the uk we say "you alright mate" or you alright lad, i say that every time, ofc aus is our twins, we made them
posh rp, prob that
my grandad had one
hes 86
back in those times, schools forced kids to learn rp
I don't think Aussies would appreciate you saying that, lol
it legit is true, we send crimnals there, irish english they mxied together forming a unique accent
and into 3 catagories
i know some aussies, they prob would not tho
but hey, it is partiraly right i guess
Agreed,I spotted that too
I say that every single time when im at school
Lol hate my British accent as much as u want
At least Iām the one that has been trying
???
Wat now
I was trying to mimic harry
Which someone said i should do to get better
I donāt think heād be called posh though. Thatās anything but posh.
Go for it x
Itās so gooood ššur a british for sure
No british would want to teach me though
Your pronunciation is coherent and understandable. If you donāt mind me asking, is it only pronunciation youāre concerned about or are you trying to make an accent too?
It definitely sounds like a person from England
100%
Trust me, Iāve watched a lot of British TV shows
Okay, from what I heard in the voice recording, it seems as if youāre going with something thatās more standard. We call this the Received Pronunciation (RP) accent in England. Itās what you hear from newsreaders or the royal family. Very formal, well-documented and long vowels etc.
However, if you want to sound more natural, the closest to this that I can think of is the Estuary English accent and I feel that would be easiest for you to learn with. This accent is from the south east (and is quite close to mine). Itās very neutral and is actually a mix of RP and Cockney. Itās super common here, especially around London.
Itās not fair to mislead people who are trying to learn. š
No i didnāt
Did he mislead me as well lol
Context:
oh come on guys i cant get roasted just because i said something nice and encouraging
It doesnāt sound bad at all, keep working on it!
see that?
Youāre not getting roasted, but I canāt sit back and let you judge peopleās British accents when⦠in the nicest, and honest way possible, you canāt even make one yourself. But, thatās why youāre here! To improve. You can always ask others for help. @ember hatch Ā“s accent is really good, you should learn from her!
It is, Iāve heard it. And compared to others Iāve heard in this server, it is very good.
thank you
Seriously, you sound like an old friend of mine from secondary school!
I actually wanted to ask which English accent mine is closest to (if any of them)
Like is it RP(-ish)? SSB(-ish)? I don't know much about the accents about Britian, so I couldn't judge for myself
Damn I just realised I used 'about' twice
Home Counties accent is a good one too.

Itās definitely closer to RP
This accent (Home Counties) is most common where I live. Even so, the accent heās making in the video is quite simplified. In reality, there are a lot more variations of this āhome countiesā accent. I was living in Kent over the last three years and definitely heard it there, but you wouldnāt hear this in Hemel, for example.
Oh I see
Idk, I mainly developed my accent by watching two Minecraft YouTubers lol. Grian and Mumbo. I don't think they had particularly posh RP accents, though
Noy sure where I would have picked RP up from
Very quickly, let me use a simple trick to identify whether youāre closer to an estuary or RP accent. I can only do this if you send me a voice recording saying the word āestuaryā though.
Are you trying to make a standard one?
Yeah
Perhaps if youāre more specific with the type youāre making, I can give better feedback
Idk maybe cockney?
Oh, okay. Weāre going with RP then. You need to fix āwatchingā, āMINEcraftā. Also, I think itās pronounced Grian (like Brian), not āgrainā. (But ask Scella if Iām wrong, lol). And lastly, relax a little more. It does seem like youāre trying too hard with emphasising the accent. (Especially when you say particularly and though) To sound more natural, try to sound more casual if possible.
No, thatās not cockney.
Any other word? I don't think I pronounce that one like a Brit actually lol. I think I do it the American way: est yu wary
Thank you so much
No worries, keep practicing though. Itās not impossible, and I know you can do so much better with time!
Funny thing, his name is said kinda like 'Green', the spelling is awful
Yeah, that pronunciation of estuary alone signifies that you may lean more towards an RP, because RPās tend to emphasise the t and a sound, whereas estuaryās (a mix of cockney and RP) would say it more like eschury. But, take this with a grain of salt, because there are a lot of similarly pronounced words between the two accents anyway.
Green? I was way off then š
Am I liek mixing the RP and the American pronunciations
My accent is just a mess of whatever content past me intook
Did I just say 'like' 7 times?
You sounded posh in the first bit. And why do you sound so much like my old friend? Itās creeping me out.š
I didn't mean to sound like them š
But yea, my accent is inconsistent
Someone told me I sound 'generally European' (I am not European)
I've been told I sound Italian, Scottish, Swedish š
Danish
Haha, thatās such a random mix š¤£
I made a list lmao: Irish, Indian, Pakistani, Arab, Italian, Scottish, British, drunk, Swedish, Danish, Egyptian, South African, Indonesian, Australian, and Turkish
Just be thankful, no ones told you that you have an Essex one
Why is that bad?
Have you ever watched love island?
I'm not sure if this is a joke about 'Essex' looking like 'Esex' or if there is something I do not know about an accent in 'Essex'
Nope
Iām sorry, but I canāt stand it.
I'd like to hear this accent now lol
Definitely not Danish because they usually sound very Americanized
Iāve seen quite a few Danish people and they sound exactly like Americans
Same with Birmingham
I live in a weird corner of the UK with a very distinctive accent. (I'm not Australian!!!).
Is this the accent?
This person seems to hate it too lmao
And dare I say, the scouse accent too
Yes š

What do I sound like miss belle š
Shut up I said a lot of good things about your accent
You did not smh
I did
either way, it was a joke
.
just a full stop
Thank you for the kind words š Iāll surely do!

I take it that you are kind of reluctant to othersā advice regarding how to improve your accent bud. Even if you already know this, I will let you know now bud that this channel is meant for learners, let alone anyone improve their accent. I am not trying to gaslight you but we have given you very solid advice, and you have yet to listen to our advice. It wonāt get any better if you are still insisting that your British accent is good(itās not on par with your American accent). No offence, but you have been fooling around whilst others(me included) were listening to you and giving you feedback with constructive criticism. If you want to get better at accents you wouldāve have to learn how to properly mimic them like how they would casually speak, there are tons of YouTubers out there whom of which teach ESL students how to mimic a particular accent.
Iām not saying my British accent is good
Judged, obvious, observed, yeah. Only those four words were slightly off (but it mightāve been because you were speaking a bit quickly during those parts).
And I have been learning very hard. Iāve tried to mimic them all the time.
But obviously, it seems like a joke to you
(Iām not usually awake at 4am btw, Iām only still up because I had a lot of caffeine before bed)
Stop being so condescending alright
Youāve said it multiple times recently
Well, Iām trying to encourage myself by saying that
Okay now youāre being disrespectful
But I didnāt mean it
Iāve done nothing but given you constructive feedback
Well, I donāt think you have
Hmm, how were they off if I may ask?
Hold the message for about two seconds and youāll see an option under āreplyā
I have
Belle gave me really good feedbacks, but I donāt think you did. All you did was making fun of me.
Iāve told you to stop mimicking stereotypical accents and actually learn an authentic one
sleeep girl whaa

Yes, thatās the accent I said was similar to yours too. SSBE and RP are the same thing. Just different names lol. Were these people natives?
Iām trying to learn the authentic one by mimicking them Iām trying not to force it
But itās going to very hard for me
You knew that
Well, I guess youāre the police here, huh?
On the bright side, Iāve got no work today.
:D
Would you wanna cuff me as well officer??
Ofc ik thatās why I said what I said
Now youāre being weird
Cut it out eh bud
you all gotta stop arguing
Iām not even arguing with him at this point, Iām laughing behind the screen.

Sure, youāre right in saying that SSBE is the more⦠modern version, I suppose. But theyāre often used interchangeably
All Iām saying is I am not fooling around and have been trying the natural British accent really hard by impersonating the amazing people here
may I direct your attention to my voice note, then š

I just want feedback
I got told 3 words sounded off but idk how they sounded off
Send me the message link

Oh, I have mostly been AFK
But I have played games for that long before lol
I will cry
You donāt have to redo it
Itās what it is eh
Itāll be pointless if Iām getting one just to listen to mp3 recordings eh bud

You just need to speak more clearly. And, perhaps I was a bit too picky with āyeahā. You seem to say it more like āyaaā, whereas I say it like āyehā with a short e sound
Why does this kinda remind me of horrid Henry
I can only listen to voice notes and vocaroo
So my issue is not being clear? Should I just speak slower?
.
Your accent is good, I would maybe suggest speaking more clearly.
At least itās better this time
It is
Good job
Youāre getting there
What does that entail? Slower speech?
It still sounds like youāre forcing it. For your own good, Iām going to be brutally honest with you. If you were to come to England right now and speak like that with any native here⦠theyād just get annoyed and think youāre taking the mick out of their accent or something. Either that, or theyād laugh in your face.
Donāt beat yourself
You did better though
Youāre improving

š
I know this, because I knew someone like you, who always spoke a way similar to that. And she got bullied.
By knowing this, you know how to improve.
OK, so is she British
No sheās not
^
And remember, the best way to improve is to actually take advice into consideration and work on that, rather than always getting offended when someone is correcting you.
Are you American?
Yes! But not too slow
No
Opening my mouth more? Isn't that more typical of American English?
But yeah, I'll try to stress more
Why
Your og accent sounds American
I mean pronouncing word stress more clearly, but itās a mere issue
mhm, thank you :>
Makes it come out a little slurred eh
Alright, thanks
^This is true in every language
I still have an accent in my heritage language because of it

Iām looking at you Arabic
Idk about openning mouth more, tbh, but I will work on stressing and being a bit more clear and slower
I met so many Canadians while living in Kent last year, and they all sounded American to me
aboot
Other than the way you say ācouchā Iām not aware of the other nuances
true :p
Anything with āCanadian raisingā and maybe some vowels
An American would say sawrry, a Canadian would say sowrry
Aboat
Oh yes, I forgot about that one!
Stuff like that
Also cloud vs clout
They have different vowels
I think Canadians are the only ones to pronounce these two differently
Thanks for the advice
And maybe Northern Americans
My og accent sounds awful so I wanna learn the British way
lmfao
Iāve got school see you later
byeebyee
I was scrolling through the beef and saw it first lmao
How do you rate it?
Yeah
-5/10
.
.
I will.take it as a 5/10
