#šļ½pronunciation

Itās great that for some people, the accent comes naturally or out of hard work
I find it sad that some people want to change their accents to sound native but their original accents already sound so beautiful and unique
I wanna get rid of it cause itās ugly as hell
Some accents are indeed beautiful but unfortunately mine doesnāt fit that category
Hey, to you itād sound horrible
To me, thatās a different story
Truth is, you will never be able to fully get rid of your foreign accent if you started learning English when you were already over 15-16 years old. You just can't. Sure you might have a chance to fool a native speaker for quite some time, but eventually your accent will start to come out at some point.
Don't be discouraged, owlman. Surely most of them want a few pats on the old back, or they may be deaf, in which case the more reason not to let it trouble you.
correct pronunciation (or at least a decent try at it) can bring about the accent change you want. in my humble opinion, any attempt to not sound like pena nieto is a good one
where are you from?
Latvia
good accent
š š
I love listening to people's accents and thinking that mine is so lame compared to theirs š
Really clear @granite falcon, fantastic.
Same
I wish I had a different accent ngl
Iām tired of being mistaken as British
Hey
Itās hard to do so HAHA
I sound like a mix of Aussie and British but people think Iām fully British
Kiu became a teacher
omg
I will let u know that my brain does not hold enough capacity for grammar and therefore I have resulted to analysis and composition instead BAHAHA
i read that as "competition" and started wondering if you guys do some competition like wrestling in mud
BAHAHAH
Despite speaking fast, your pronunciation is actually quite good in my opinion. I'd suggest slowing down a bit when you speak. But apart from that, good job. Keep it up!
Thank you all! Ill try to work on my talking speed
for a non-native speaker this is really impressive
the only problem was "a device that measure[s] and display[s] time"
pretty great, Your cadence is really good. You slurred some vowel sounds here (By the way I am judging you based on the American pronunciation). The first one "chronometer" is actually pronounced "/kroŹĖnÉm.É.tÉr/" This is "É" the AAHH sound as in father, so it would be kronAAAHmeter or kronÉmeter meanwhile you said something like krOnometer as in "boat" this happened because Because you didn't stress the second Syllable of the word.
The sentence "clock is one of the oldest" The way you prononuced the word "oldest" was a bit off. You should have pronounced "Oldest" with a stop t (Stop t is the basically the "T" but you do not pronounce it in its full measures, but you stop the airflow whilst placing the tongue in the spot Where The "T" sound pronounced ) The reason for this is Connected speech sometimes we do not pronounce things as they should be we are not orthodox with the pronunciation depending upon the overall stress in the sentence it could be pronounced differently.
"Intervals" the schwa sound ĖÉŖntÉrvÉl' the first "É" in intervals was off, you said something like intervolts of time rather than intervÉls of time.
"The lunar month" You slurred the words or rather based on my acumen you fumbled on the Th sound The sound in "That", The reason for this I suppose is you are reading from a source fast.
"Operating", In American English The plosives are of great importance. Plosives or simply the Pop sounds are iterated with a strong sound. So when you said the Operating you did not make the "p" plosive rather you substituted the sound With an ambiguous "V" in my opinion.
Great accent. I Suppose you are aware of these mistakes and when you isolate the sounds you could pronounce them the way they are supposed to be pronounced but in accordance with other sounds it might be hard to integrate them especially whilst speaking fast. The intonation and the Musicality of Your accent are pretty great in my opinion. Albeit the sounds could get a bit more tuning.
that is an old audio?
Don't be fake humble, u know we understand u, sounds clear and american
kinda remembered me of this guy
Hello, can u guys judge my accent. it's kinda random dont mind with whatever i said.. lol -Andrew Tate
.
Your accent was fine. I just didn't think much of the unnecessarily vulgar language. I don't usually care too much, but this was excessive and seemed a bit inappropriate, IMO.
my suggestions were for you @granite falcon
yep totally agree..
don't mind him. that was beautifully phrased and conveyed
Innovations in Renewable Energy Technologies
The advent of cutting-edge renewable energy technologies marks a pivotal shift in our approach to environmental sustainability. Solar panels and wind turbines, once considered peripheral alternatives, are rapidly transforming into mainstream power sources. This transition not only signifies a technological revolution but also reflects a growing global commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
Advancements in photovoltaic cells have dramatically increased solar energy's efficiency, making it a more viable and cost-effective option for households and industries alike. Similarly, innovations in wind turbine design have led to more efficient, less obtrusive models that integrate seamlessly into various landscapes.
Furthermore, the exploration of tidal energy, harnessing the immense power of ocean currents, presents a frontier brimming with potential. These relentless marine forces offer a consistent and predictable source of energy, contrasting the intermittent nature of solar and wind power.
The integration of these renewable sources poses its own set of challenges, particularly in terms of energy storage and grid management. Lithium-ion batteries and other emerging storage technologies play a crucial role in ensuring a stable and reliable supply of green energy.
In conclusion, the path towards a sustainable future is intricately linked with the development of renewable energy technologies. As these innovations continue to evolve, they promise not only to mitigate the impacts of climate change but also to redefine our relationship with the natural world.
I think that I was definitely more nervous in the first half of the text compared to the second part of the text. I was definitely speaking more relaxed and confidently in the second half, I think it is also easy to be heard
when I listen to myself I can hear that I definitely mispronounced a bunch of words in the first half because I might not have been completely relaxed
Btw, the reason I read so slowly is not because I want to read as comprehensively as possible but is rather due to my dyslexia š
7/10 not bad
I think your accent is really really good
your pronunciation is really good, and I really appreciate when people don't just tack on a super thick American accent
Really well done. You almost sound like a native to England. I mean, TBF, you do basically sounds like a native to England, but perhaps more specifically someone who struggles with reading aloud.
And you have dyslexia, which makes it totally understandable why you struggled. You could've told me you were dyslexic and that you were from England, and I probably would've believed you.
Happy New Year š
I've heard that reading is like a muscle šŖ if you train it, it grows bigger and you become stronger šŖ
I do read a lot I would say. At least on a daily basis, but my reading muscle does not grow, I do not become a faster reader from reading a lot š
aloud?
Not necessarily aloud, just read
what
well that doesn't make sense. no offense but i.read a LOT and my accent is crap.
damn, didn't read the whole post. nevermind me
Please call Stella. Ask her to bring these things with her from the store: Six spoons of fresh snow peas, five thick slabs of blue cheese, and maybe a snack for her brother Bob. We also need a small plastic snake and a big toy frog for the kids. She can scoop these things into three red bags, and we will go meet her Wednesday at the train station.
Just looking for feedback on my pronunciation & accent
I think you did pretty good, but I have noticed that you struggled in pronouncing words with "th" in it like "these" and "three". You read "those" instead of "bring THESE things...". Your accent is really easy to listen to and understand, while your pronunciation can be better as long as you keep practicing š Good luck, Keanne! Great voice btw.
Nah it's ok everyone is here for feedback
So ignoring the Th sound that was already pointed out, I also noticed you had an issue with adding some words in. Like you said "bring Those things with her (pause) from the other store:" The main issue of course being "these" vs "those". You also said "Five thick flaps of blue cheese" and pronounced "Brother" Like "Brether". I think most english accents tend to pronounce this word with a "Short a" sound like "Bruther". I think the sentence "She can scoop these..." Should probably be either a request (like "Please have her scoop these...") or a suggestion (Like "She should scoop these..."). And then the last sentence should be... "We will meet her on Wednesday at the Train Station (The word go is doubling up on the future tense which is bad and you need a preposition like "on" to tell you that's when you're meeting her. To be fair, a lot of english speakers do drop that preposition so it's not a huge deal). I know I typed a lot of critique, and there are certainly things you can improve on, Most native speakers would understand you pretty clearly, so it's a pretty good job.
yep spot on haha i have trouble pronouncing the āthā sounds like for example tree and three š
but thanks u
After re listening yeah i did add and replace a bunch of words
but thanks for the feed back i learnt something new š
Cheering you on to keep learning more about English š šŖ
thanks
how does this judge my accent work here
You post your accent to get some advice from other people
cani uesti cover
hii guyss, can i ask for tips on how to pronounce 'sts'? i find it real hard to pronounce that without sounding robotic and unnatural :(
You can enunciate the words clearly that's good but i think you need to have some tone cuz I can't feel anything I just realized this problem š«
Okayy thx
"Sony began developing the PlayStation after a failed venture with Nintendo to create a CD-ROM peripheral for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in the early 1990s. The console was primarily designed by Ken Kutaragi and Sony Computer Entertainment in Japan, while additional development was outsourced in the United Kingdom. An emphasis on 3D polygon graphics was placed at the forefront of the console's design. PlayStation game production was designed to be streamlined and inclusive, enticing the support of many third-party developers."
I think you need to work on what pronunciation of the letter A you use. For example, you used the incorrect way of saying A in began and Japan. You said it as "ah" rather than "eh". Try saying began but, in your mind, replace the letter A with 'eh'. (Below is a comparison between your pronunciation and mine)
how to have a good pronunciation of the letter "r"?
Depends, if you are basically saying just 'r' it's pronounced "are" but when you say something like Robert, you'd use "Raw-but" completely ignoring the second 'r'
Okay, thanks so much for your advice š
shape your tongue like a pringle
like fr
that's the new meta in the accentmaxxing scene right now
accentmaxxing lmao
found the brit
also i spent actual time of my life trying to shape my tongue like a pringle and I can say this is somewhat accurate just don't overdo it
a better way of saying Robert (the way I say it) is roh-buht
Nah it's good
Idk dude "but" goes well for me not just saying a small 'but'
Rather like we say hurt kurt etc.
i think for a british accent it's more of a "buht"
that sounds kinda off could you send a voice recording
That's what I meant to type
Thanks
could you send a voice recording tho
the "buht" part sounds too short
maybe make it longer
?
get that "uhhh" action going on
are you guys judge me?
Hi. Teach me English, please.
āA certain shopkeeper sent his son to learn about the secret of happiness from the wisest man in the world. The lad wandered through the desert for forty days, and finally came upon a beautiful castle, high atop a mountain. It was there that the wise man lived.
āRather than finding a saintly man, though, our hero, on entering the main room of the castle, saw a hive of activity: tradesmen came and went, people were conversing in the corners, a small orchestra was playing soft music, and there was a table covered with platters of the most delicious food in that part of the world. The wise man conversed with everyone, and the boy had to wait for two hours before it was his turn to be given the manās attention.
I consumed a lot of American content, so that's why I get confused in some words. (I'm learning the Brittish accent.)
Amazing man! great work, I think its beneficial to speak slowly and enunciate clearly, and take your time between sentences, it gives u space to think, t his can help you focus on the pronunciation of each word and improve your overall clarity. Additionally, listening to native speakers and trying to mimic their speech patterns can also be very helpful. Keep practicing, and you'll see improvement over time.
remember practice makes perfect
Hey guys i wanna develop my British accent any tips!!
thanks, for the nice words I'll keep practicing!
send a recording here
I think it's not bad. I can understand which I'm even not a native English speaker and the key point is that at the first step. You may study to phonetic alphabet to improve your pronounce and speed of speaking. I believe that you will get better day by day. š
By the way, You may try to read English books while recording everyday based on english level. It will show it that where you made mistakes and It may motivate to seeing your improving process.
i think this is what they're trying to spell out with "roh-buht"
the first half is short so it's different from "raw" /roĖ/, and the second half is short so it's different from "burt" /bÉĖt/
that makes it two short vowels just like they said in the recording /rÉbÉt/
Hello @forest trellis,
I missed your class about the accent today š
would you mind giving a resume about your session or how to improve it?
"Jack was hungry. He walked to the kitchen. He got out some eggs. He took out some oil. He placed a skillet on the stove. Next, he turned on the heat. He poured the oil into the skillet. He cracked the eggs into a bowl. He stirred the eggs. Then, he poured them into the hot skillet. He waited for the eggs to finish cooking. They cooked for two minutes. He heard them cooking. They popped in the oil."
That's excellent! I think the only thing that needs some work is distinguishing what pronunciation of 'E' you use. For example in the word skillet, the first one was perfectly as "ski-luht" but the second one was pronounced differently.
oh thank you a lot
, I have issues with eh and uh, ae, and relates
I'm on going to make it better š¤©
@restive meteor robb
You didnāt pronounce finish correctly as well, work on [sh] sound - /Ź/.
Thank you, I will fix it š¤©

how's my accent?
okay, let's try too
i'm open to any feedback š my pronunciation is not very good yet šø
Who said that? I'll slap said person
You sound good
What makes you think your pronunciation isn't good? any specific reasons?
its my first pronunciation, i think in my life... I spoke little to people from my country in English
Just give up those pessimistic, we do speak English here everyday

"Jack was hungry. He walked to the kitchen. He got out some eggs. He took out some oil. He placed a skillet on the stove. Next, he turned on the heat. He poured the oil into the skillet. My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.
everyone i've heard say it (except you) say it as wosh
itās okay many ways
I'm from the east and most of my family is from Pennsylvania and mideast so we say Warsh instead of wosh. a lot of people who have scottish or Irish genes or older members of family can usually hear it from a great grandpa or grandma. š My friend told me that the east is weird because we say Warsh..
Past trauma.
People don't want to be pitted just because of their, Past They want a shoulder to cry on. Someone to tell them thatās itās going To be okay To have someone Thatāll stick with Them, And not leave To be there for Their ups And downs To love them For their Personality, Not for their body
Depends on your accent, whatever you grew up saying is right.
howās this?
Nobody answered, but your pronunciation is good, just keep going what you're doing and DON'T GIVE UP!
thank you!!
Can you guys please judge the Queen's English?
She, she sounds like she's drunk or something, slightly slurring her words a bit, and of course, the obvious thing, she sounds...BRITISH.
And it sounds like she's combining words sometimes, IDK, just doesn't sound normal to me, probably because I'm and American and not European.
š
I disagree with the previous. She speaks beautifully. No slur. One small slip that she corrected. Her accent is rather British, yes, but clear.
I heard no "combination of words".
Just my perspective.
Wish that all you have to listen to are that clear.
Hi, I was wondering if my speech is generally intelligible for you guys? Would appreciate any tips on how to improve, thanks!

This was me responding to a prompt for the IELTS test, so it was impromptu and might be a little messy lol
she sounds Indian
Does she sound posh? Because she ought to since she, after all, is queen.
i think she's vivid with her speech. What do you mean by posh?
I agree 100%. Definitely a voice trained to sound posh.
Not sure that sounding posh is a thing many want nowadays, but sure, she can do it.
When she speaks Danish it sounds posh, but I am not sure if it is the same with her English
She can do it but is she doing it?

Yop
Hello, I'm fine!
@burnt fjord
Yeah?
@sinful canopy everyone thinks that their pronunciation is standard...that is the beauty of living in the US - because there are so many regional dialect patterns, we all think our own is the "normal" one! The same thing happened in my family too - I was raised in a Swedish-American community (first generation), and so the word "ja" is frequently used instead of "yeah" or "yes". I noticed when my son was first learning to talk, he said "ja" before he said "yes" as well. There is something called register shift, where you change or adjust your speaking pattern, depending on your audience. So that means, when you're with your family, go ahead and say "warsh", but in a more formal setting (such as work, public speaking, etc.), change your vocabulary to the standard form of "wash". If you slip up in public, just excuse yourself and repeat the word with the standard pronunciation.
@arctic inlet You did beautifully! Next step: I would suggest making sure you are pronouncing final consonants, especially the plural -s, -es, and tense markers -s, -ed, -es. (some general examples: mitten vs. mittens, walk vs. walked). These are sounds we add onto the ends of words in English to denote the number or quantity of things, or whether things happened in the past or present. They are small, unstressed sounds, and in running speech, it is easy to drop them. There are rules you need to learn about whether to use a voiced sound, or a voiceless sound at the end of these kinds of words, and that is a more advanced English topic. I noticed a few consonant deletions and that some of these sounds tended to disappear in the short reading that you uploaded. Keep up the good work, your English is very easy to understand. Good luck!! Cindy
@proven plaza Hello! I think that your English is very intelligible and easy to understand. A good next step for you is to learn how to pronounce an American /r/ if you are wanting to speak American English. The American /r/ is produced with a tension in the back of the tongue, with the tip pointed up towards the palate and slightly curled backward. Here is a link that will provide more specific information about how to produce an American /r/ sound. https://magoosh.com/english-speaking/the-rhotic-r-american-r/ You are tending to reduce the /r/ sound in the middle and at the ends of your words, as well as in consonant clusters in the beginning of words . Your /r/ sound in the beginning of words is emerging and sounds more clear. This is a good sign!!! Good luck in your next steps - Cindy
i don't live in the us
How it works here to pronounce Something? I have to add a text here?
well the best pronunciation of english comes from the pacific northwest of the USA
there are walmart employees in the PNW with better english than her
they do not have accents
Wrong. The accent of the Pacific Northwest is "standard" in the sense that those who speak it literally have no accent. It is the purest most unbroken form of English.
I hope you have learned something today, LuckyStrikes. Although I am a beginner from Colombia I have a lot to teach the world when it comes to english.
Sadly however, large amounts immigrants from other states have begun (little by little) to tarnish this perfect English. Although for now this is only concentrated in major cities (seattle, portland, etc.)
Thank you! Iāll work on itš
amazing
i understood it easily
i noticed some difficulty and struggle while all that was being pronounced but i got it
maybe not struggle, its just kinda, hm, slow, possibly, hard to describe the feeling am getting from this
At last it was evening. The large stone hall of the workhouse filled with hungry, skinny, young orphans, dressed in filthy rags. Perhaps the word hungry doesnāt accurately describe the grumbling stomachs. Starving would probably be more suitable. They had three meals a day, which consisted of only one bowl, and more, of watery, tasteless soup; except on special occasions when they enjoyed a tiny piece of bread too.
Iāve been speaking English for 10 years, thereās always something at the back of my mind telling me that I sound like a foreigner (not that anythingās wrong with that) but I just wanted to get feedback so I can improve and sound more native
It sounds very natural. Worry not.
I'm not sure why "a foreigner" would want to sound not like a foreigner, but go for it.
BTW: It does not make a lot of sense here; "which consisted of only one bowl, and more,". It sort of works as if "watery, tasteless soup" were more explanation, but not quite seeming right.
I found it online and it seems that it should be
"which consisted of only one bowl, and no more,".
@odd edge in like 10 secs
Thank you, I appreciate it!
And I scribbled this down on a piece of paper, I mustāve missed ānoā before āmoreā
I felt like something was off while reading it, but I chose to ignore it.
Thank you again for the feedback
its good and easy to understand, but the rolling r in the word experience sounds off
thanks, ill definitely be working on my rs next! glad to know its intelligible though š
i am amit kumar from indian , i passed my college from premier college that was situated in kolkata . i am searching job in data analytics , in recent time i am doing internship in start up company ,
Askew meaning
its pretty much a synonym for crooked
for example | | \ |
the third symbol is askew
Sorry but I am going to be honest.
- You are way to quiet
- There are a lot of words being slurred.
- The ending of a few words are not clear.
On the positive side it sounds like you are making an effort to try. Best of luck to you š
Could I just ask a question: In which way could I have a talk to English speaker?
You mean as in "Use Discord"?
Or "should I be polite?"
Bros
someone brazilian?
I wanna learn English with a brazilian Friend
bro, I am very happy for understand what you write
Hi man, I'm Brazilian too, but if you wanna chat with somebody here I recommend you go to the "beginner chat" 'cause there has a lot of movement
Thank you
Hi guys, I'm letting these lines to you, just for practice the pronunciation and because I'm love Star Wars š
⢠Anakin Skywalker: I saw your ship! What are you doing out here?
⢠Padmé: I was so worried about you! Obi-Wan... told me terrible things.
⢠Anakin Skywalker: What things?
⢠Padmé: He said... you've turned to the Dark Side, that you... killed younglings!
⢠Anakin Skywalker: Obi-Wan is trying to turn you against me.
⢠Padmé: He cares about us.
⢠Anakin Skywalker: Us?
⢠Padmé: He knows. He wants to help you. Anakin, all I want is your love.
⢠Anakin Skywalker: Love won't save you, Padmé. Only my new powers can do that.
⢠Padmé: At what cost? You're a good person. Don't do this!
⢠Anakin Skywalker: I won't lose you the way I lost my mother. I am becoming more powerful than any Jedi has ever dreamed of, and I'm doing it for you... to protect you.
⢠Padmé: Come away with me. Help me raise our child. Leave everything else behind while we still can!
⢠Anakin Skywalker: Don't you see? We don't have to run away anymore. I have brought peace to the Republic. I am more powerful than the Chancellor; I... I can overthrow him. And together, you and I can rule the galaxy... make things the way we want them to be!
⢠Padmé: I don't believe what I'm hearing! Obi-Wan was right... you've changed!
⢠Anakin Skywalker: I don't wanna hear anymore about Obi-Wan. The Jedi turned against me. Don't you turn against me!
⢠Padmé: I don't know you anymore! Anakin... you're breaking my heart! You're going down a path I can't follow!
⢠Anakin Skywalker: Because of Obi-Wan?
⢠Padmé: Because of what you've done... what you plan to do! Stop! Stop now... come back! I love you!
⢠Anakin Skywalker: LIAR!
⢠Padmé: [turns to see Obi-Wan] No!
⢠Anakin Skywalker: [to Padmé] You're with him! You've brought him here to kill me!
[begins choking PadmƩ with the Force]
⢠Obi-Wan Kenobi: Let her go, Anakin!
⢠Padmé: [choking] Anakin...
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Let... her... go!
releases PadmƩ, who falls to the ground, unconscious]
⢠Anakin Skywalker: You turned her against me!
⢠Obi-Wan Kenobi: You have done that yourself.
⢠Anakin Skywalker: You will not take her from me!
⢠Obi-Wan Kenobi: Your anger and your lust for power have already done that. You have allowed this dark lord to twist your mind, until now, until now you've become the very thing you swore to destroy.
⢠Anakin Skywalker: Don't lecture me, Obi-Wan! I see through the lies of the Jedi. I do not fear the dark side as you do. I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new Empire.
⢠Obi-wan Kenobi: Your new Empire?
⢠Anakin Skywalker: Don't make me kill you.
⢠Obi-Wan Kenobi: Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic, to democracy!
⢠Anakin Skywalker: If you're not with me, then you're my enemy.
⢠Obi-Wan Kenobi: Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
⢠Obi-Wan Kenobi: I will do what I must.
⢠Anakin Skywalker: You will try
Why I can't send audio here, like, archive type?
Actually, you're doing great, but there are a couple of things you should be aware of, such as: word of Won't you need to put much more stress on the "t" letter due to mostly negative words, there should be much more stress because misunderstandings might happen. Second, you need to do it with rising intenations, unlike many other languages. When you're using English, you need to give much more attention to that. In conclusion, your English is perfect; you just need one more push.
Thank you for the tip and for the attention
When you said that I have to put more stress on the "T", I should Pronounce the T or just let it be clear that word has the letter "T"?
And just one more thing, my edit on audio with the music was good? š
But you got it clear without misunderstanding?
This is excellent. You speak very clearly and your pronunciations are on-point. Well done.
Thank you!!
Just only for some negative situations; such as negative statements needs these type of letter stress due to misunderstand happens
Yeah there isn't any issue
Is there anyone who speaks with a british accent here?
i'd like to improve my accent, and the british accent is quite exquisite, i'd love to acquire it
There are lots of "British" accents. Are you looking for "BBC English"?
i think i am looking for a more london-ish accent, i've looked into the bbc english, i believe it's a little bit like it
let me find a sample of someone speaking here
i think this video summarises it pretty well:
The 2nd of 3 short videos showing how American actors can do a British accent convincingly. New York acting-coach, John Windsor-Cunningham in another of his free videos, gives words and sounds with a pause here for the viewer to repeat them. Dozens more free videos are on his website Windsor-Cunningham.com
This guy is nuts.
Saying that in "car" we don't pronounce the "r" just because we don't over-stress it. Is he taking the Mickey?
It is "car", not "ca" and not "carrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr".
Motherrrrr? No way.
yeah i've noticed some crazy stuff in his video hahahahahahaha
Anyway (with no "s") Hope you find what you are looking for.
however the way he speaks is the way i'd like to speak
i've had too many exposure to american content, but i don't like the way they speak T.T
There are also a lot of different American accents.
Personally I find saying pardy for party grates.
there is some sorte of uniqueness to the british accents
(forget the scottish accent) ahahahahhaha
If only we could.
i am thinking about paying a teacher on italki to acquire one british accent
only for miscellaneous
i don't actually need it, but i'd like to have one
Does italki have that?
Yes, there a tutors who specifically help you to work on your accent
And it's not that expensive
Enjoy. Looked for you on the server, but did not see you.
Beyond being understood, I understand that some people want to sound as if they come from another area. Hope it works for you.
I am brazilian, and i don't know if it's something cultural here, but generally people here don't like to listen the brazilian accent, it sounds like a russian trying to speak english but less rusty, maybe because we pronounce all vowels and tonal sounds
i understand that being understood is the essential, however i think that getting a little more familiar with an accent may improve connection when talking to a person
nothing, i like it, but portuguese and russian have similar tones
brazilian portuguese and russian in this case
we put enphasis in the R
am slavic, we pronounce R the same as russians, and i personally do not
so, it can be improved
but the russian accent is more pleasant to the ears than the brazilian
that was only one example, there are others
i mean when i pronounce can't
i say i can't, however a brit lad would say "i cĆ” ant"
well okay, you know, there are many layers to that, you can have a russian with the thickest russian accent ever, or with a slight russian accent. For me people say am russian, because "they slightly can notice the slavic accent"
the russian accent is pretty dope and nice, have you heard the brazilian?
yes
I think brazilian accent is okay, like, as long as i can understand this then this is fine for me
to be frank, to me it could not exist and i would be very glad
it complicates everything, unnecessarily, american and even aussie is easier to understand
Yeah, I can think of a few British accents I'm thoroughly pleased I don't speak.
ig the only clever thing I can think of is ||bye gay||
don't take it personally
Hey everyone would you guys help me rate my accent.. it's very random.. my microphones are not really good as well.
Understood every word.
BTW: I almost didn't respond when I read your intro quotation from that Tait guy.
Hahahah lol . I don't like him personally lol. But that quote specifically is kinda funny lol ..
Thank you for the comment.
Understood every word š¤
on a scale of 1 to 10 that's a solid 7.5
š
I also understood you very well, despite being distracted, there being background noise, and having a YouTube video playing until I paused it to listen to you. š
hi guys ! Siya from India .how can i work here to improve my pronunciation?
maybe like understand the context of the word and find which part u find hard to say and like repeat until u confident
Some say they "shadow"; repeat after movies and video to copy the way native speakers say things. Some say that they listen to how something is said, then repeat to themselves, or record themselves and iterate.
Are you wanting to work on the individual sounds, words or on how whole sentences sound?
I suspect part of the process is to work out exactly which part or sounds you want to change and go crazy on practice concentrating on exactly those.
If you find a friendly vc room, likely others can help you get something right. Speakers of different languages often have different difficulties, so can sometimes help each other with sounds they have trouble with.
Hello, can someone propose a text to read?
I would like too
pretty much spot on aside from "honeycomb" but otherwise you're doing great š

thank you for the feedback colonel!
Is anyone available to do a pronunciation training in a chat room?
i am trying to get rid of the little brazilian accent i still have
i'm also trying to achieve a british accent which may be more challenging
I'm also interested.
"saw" sounded a bit off to me, i mean, i recognized it, but i think it was not really good
"vase" sounded a little bit like "face" to me
"honeycomb" also lacked something
Wait a second, maybe i can show you something
Yeah i kinda feel some words are a little bit off, thank you for the feedbacks
Oh oh sure
I usually search for words on this website, cuz it has many recordings from natives, not from AI voice
If you scroll, you can find both american and british recordings there (well, if there happen to be for that word)
you can compare sew with saw
if you listen to these
because theyre not the same, and yours did sound more like a sew, than saw
Okay! Thank you so much black cat
i'll try to listen to it and re-record it later
youre welcome. i feel i forgot to add that you did well, so, i was just cherry-picking the worst ones
much appreciated for the help
if i may ask, kind of guessing it from the accent, are you a chinese native, perhaps?
oh no im not :(( im Indonesian
eh- we're from the same nation, no?
nope, am polish
but i do know a bit of bahasa indonesia. Like, a teaspoon of it
ohh i see thats cool
What?
Why?
Do you know me?
Why?
Okay?
Why?
It's Indonesia
I'm not from Indonesia
It last it was evening. The large stone hall of the workhouse filled with hungry, skinny, young orphans, dressed in filthy rags. Perhaps the word hungry doesnāt accurately describe their grumbling stomachs. Starving would probably be more suitable. They had three meals a day, which consisted of only one bowl, and more, of watery, tasteless soup; except on special occasions when they enjoyed a tiny piece of bread too.
... their grumbling ...
... and no more ...
thank you
Hi y'all I'm new what do we all do here?
Hi, does everyone know about Netease game?
I don't understand clearly about this website

Good for single words and connection between words is not good.
It is hard and not smooth.

I changed "the" by "their", but I chose to don't change "more" buy "no more".
I would like a feedback too.
The idea is that they get ONE bowl and no more than ONE bowl.
Search online - you will find this version in the correct form.
If this is not obvious to you, just believe me: it's what's intended.
The pronunciation of the words is fine. The speech comes off as very slow, as mentioned above, as if the words are more important than the sentence and the meaning. Great work. Keep practicing the flow, so the meaning of the sentences come out clearly.
Thank you, I'm still learning pronunciation, it's not easy to pronounce words correctly.
my intention is, for the moment, very much focused on pronunciation of words, so it's a bit difficult for me to focus on the rhythm of the sentence right now.
If you have any advice, I'm open to it.
I thought that the idea was that the The only bowl of soup they had consisted mostly of watery tastless soup.
Can you read it to have an example of correct rythm?
"I thought that the idea was that the The only bowl of soup they had consisted mostly of watery tasteless soup."
Nope
- yeah, I tried that interpretation on for size, too, but it doesn't really wash. One and no more than one is what works.
Not saying I am an expert reader. If I read it, people could critique my reading too. But, luckily, it is much easier to be a critical listener; people can help you with your reading, even if they cannot do better.
Out of interest; What is the recording called? A "voice message"? Ans how do you create a voice message?
I understand, do you think that it's a problem to be completely focus on the pronunciation first (reading in a unnatural way) then correct the rythm later?
there is people who can directly record on discord. I don't know how they do, we maybe need an authorisation.
personally, I record myself with audacity.
No idea. Never learned a language to that level.
I'd guess steps can be done in either order; whatever suits you best.
IT does seem sensible to get the components right, before trying to put them together quickly. But see whether you get help from others who may have more experience than I have.
Thanks. I also have audacity. I guess than means I could do multiple takes and choose the least bad one š
Also, out of interest, which would be more useful; reading slowly, or at normal story-reading speed?
I think that both have their own advantages, but if I have to choose one.
I would prefer the normal speed.
hello
Sorry, what is the question? He has a thick accent, but the subtitles seem to be correct.
This channel is about pronunciation. djamale had read a piece. I commented. Then we talked about how to record another one.
Othertimes, I guess, anything to do with pronunciation.
Hey !! It's been a while since i posted my first audio clip.. So i have got another one today. It's just so random.
@halcyon pagoda I want to talk to you
Your accent is really good, where are you from?
Here are the pronunciation rules for plurals in English:
Addition of /s/: The most common way to form plurals in English is by simply adding /s/ to the end of the word. Example: cat - cats
Addition of /z/: When the singular word ends in a vowel sound or a voiced consonant (except /z/ or /s/), the plural is formed by adding /z/. Example: dog - dogs
Addition of /ÉŖz/: When the singular word ends in /s/, /z/, /Ź/, /tŹ/, /dŹ/, or /Ź/, the plural is formed by adding /ÉŖz/. Example: buzz - buzzes
Vowel change: Some words have a vowel change from singular to plural. Example: man - men
Consonant change: Some words have a consonant change from singular to plural. Example: tooth - teeth
No change: Some words remain unchanged in the plural. Example: sheep - sheep
These are the main pronunciation rules for plurals in English. It's important to note that the exact pronunciation may vary depending on the accent and phonetic context of the word in the sentence.
idk if tooth teeth is an example of consonant change
Tooth > teeth is another vowel change. A consonant change would be like ... leaf > leaves (not "leafs")

what is an example of a word that's hard to pronounce for u
I am Indian. I want to learn British accent. @crude dawn
I am American so I don't have a British accent sorry.
Okay, no problem.
@crude dawn sorry do you mind reviewing this? Iām rather anxious about presenting in front of the class
sure thing one sec
1st one sounds good, but sometimes it is hard to understand u, but that could very well be the micro phone
the second one is also decent but there are many pauses between each word which should be okay for ur class, the only thing I'd work on is tone, u stay very monotone through both of the voice recordings
alright iāll work on it, tysm
Hey, guys! Is there anyone here who has successfully managed to improve their pacing? Could you maybe give me a couple of tips? I still use the pacing of my native language when I speak English, and I think thatās one of the main reasons why I always feel weird when I speak English, even though I know Iām pronouncing the words right.
I think I got every word except the most important one. ... can anyone help me with ???? please .... It sounded a little like malink?

Hii, does anyone know about phonetics? š„¹ i have a little question
@summer nova i referred phonetics when I studied about pronunciation, syllable, vowels and consonants. It is about the study of speech sound, it's production in our vocal organs. and I studied it from INTERNATIONAL PHONETIC ALPHABET, CAMBRIDGE DICTIONARY OFFERS PRONUNCIATION, etc.
Fundamentally it gives a clear idea about pronunciation.
International Phonetic Alphabet = IPA, it is often referred to using this acronym
Hey, I'm kinda struggling with the pronunciation of th, like in the, they, these etc. any advice?
I struggle with that as well, but if I recall correctly I once saw someone mention that you can simply put your tongue behind the gap between your teeth, itās easier for some people
Maybe you can send a recording of you trying that method and Iāll determine if it sounds fine or not
Try making the 'S' sound, then put your tongue close to the back of your teeth. Then try implement this in your words
I'm sorry but I have a question. I'm currently studying in english and the problem is that it's american and I'm mostly used to british english. Is there important differences between the pronunciation in british and in american?
american has alot less intonation than british english
American and British English share many similarities because they both evolved from the same language and have a common linguistic heritage. However, there are also some important differences that can affect communication, especially in terms of vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and spelling.
Thank youā¤ļø
Greetings!
Iāve been struggling with (and quite confused about) the dark L sound lately. Normally Iād slightly pull my tongue to my throat to make the sound or pronounce it closer a āwā instead (quite the Cockney way, I believe). According to a few pronunciation training videos Iāve watched, however, your tongueās position is quite the same as when pronouncing the light L, except it doesnāt release.
I wonder whatās the most accurate way to pronounce the dark L, or, if there is any at all. (Do feel free to give your opinion <3.)
Thank you for reading. Iād be more than grateful if you could guide me through it. Have a lovely one!
put your tounge between your teeth and push air out through you mouth. without stopping the airflow, pull back you tounge into your mouth.
can you give me examples of dark l's? google isnt helping and i've never heard that term before
Dark Lās typically appear as the final syllable of a word, and when followed by a consonant. (E.g. aBLE, finAL, turTLE, etc.)
for light l's the tongue is more relaxed, with dark l's put it closer to the top of your mouth
Thank you for your help!
Hey guys can yours explain the difference for the words (fin, film, thin) the difference i am talking about is in the pronunciation, because i don't know the difference in pronunciation.
Hello. How can I improve my academic English? What is your advice, and can you give me advices?
fin [fÉŖn]
film [fɪɫm]
thin [ĪøÉŖn]
"Film" has an L /É«/ in it ("dark L" - see the comments above yours for how to pronounce it) and ends with M /m/, not N /n/
"Thin" starts with TH /Īø/, not F /f/. /Īø/ is pronounced with your tongue between your teeth, not with your teeth against your lip like /f/. Try saying an S /s/ but put the tip of your tongue between your teeth
(But note that in some dialects like Cockney, unvoiced TH is pronounced the same as F, and voiced TH is pronounced the same as V. So for those speakers,"thin" and "fin" would sound the same)
Thanks bro

Do we touch the teeth when pronouncing t and d or just the alveolar?
The teeth will come close together but should not touch. If they do touch and you are making the right sound then they will naturally come apart before the sound is made.
Thank you
does that help a little bit maybe?
Yes, I think to share an audio of me reading some words starting by t and d after practicing to be sure that I do well.
How do you pronounce "ei" in either and neither /i/ or /aÉŖ/ in american english? I found the both pronounciation and I don't know which one to choose.
Read it as a double E, like sleep and feed.
Followup: /aÉŖ/ is used for Australian and British pronunciations
Thank you for the information
Is "hehe" a laughing sound, pronounced as "hae hae" in word hand or "hi hi" in word history
Yes laughing is hehe, teehee, haha or hohoho at Christmas time
Say it as hee hee
'Neither' can be pronounced like knee or sea, as can either. Or as in sky. The choice is yours.
wasnāt it and accent thing? i mean, brits will more likely pronounce it as naither and americans as neether
at least thatās what i was told during my english major

Its a strange one, in that I come from a country with British accent origins, but I would say its currently 50/50 as to what a person will say when you speak to them. With globalization of communications and education, You are just as likely to hear both used commonly throughout your week unless you actually are in USA or UK.
The main words in your clip are not understandable. 'You're so .... Your're so .... I wanna be your sigma?' Perhaps because you are almost singing this. Try and pronounce the 'You're' more like 'yor' rather than 'yur'
Just a slightly (.25 second) more pause between Sean and o'Fry will make it clearer. Overall you could slow down your speech just a little and it will be clearer.
It depends on the person really, people in UK do say it as āneetherā as well⦠thatās mostly because people in native countries donāt really overthink what they say, they just say it
@ember jay I agree
"You're so skibidi, you're so phantom type (or tags). I wanna be your sigma"
It's a TikTok song, lol. "You're so skibidi. You're so Fanum tax. I wanna be your sigma."
oohh, what is Fanum tax?
I don't know exactly. It's a Gen Alpha(?) thing. I'm too old for this stuff xD
But as far as I understand, the song is just a mash up of slang/memes and not really supposed to make sense
https://voca.ro/1fShPXcNvmgt
Can someone judge my singing accent and please excuse my terrible singing skills š
Vocaroo is a quick and easy way to share voice messages over the interwebs.
it means eating someone else's food
it refers to the streamer Fanum, who "taxed" snacks by taking bites out of other content creators' food
(late gen-z'er here but i keep up with the latest memes while the rest of gen z calls them cringe)
bro how is this gen alpha skibidi ohio relevant to pronunciation
Oh that! Ofc. It makes perfect sense. Where was brain when i listened to you. "Perfect" pronunciation.
Having just listened to this song only 15 hours ago, i can say that it is c nicely in key. Most of it is understandable with the song and pronunciation. But there are a few mid chorus phrases that appear to be a bit blended and running together.
I just met you and ..... Crazy, ... Heres my number, and call me maybe .......... And heres my number, hey i just ... You,,, but i otherwise could understand.

Most certainly will look like my birthday cake posted in food channel, if you say this on a London street after 4pm.

Thanks Iāll work on my clarity :) also relieved to know that Iām in key haha
aahhh thank you!

Im stuck on either
1 or 2
cause they're both technically right
I feel like it's 1
it says 2 is right
a lot of other sites say 1
thats why im so stuck
1 would make sense
Because the passage talks about gods going away and the religion has continued uselessly
Right.
Which goes with 1 which says it doesn't show a purpose anymore
That would seem like the right answer
and there was another question that talked about the house lying or something

Pronounciation
Pronunciation
ProNOUNciation
it is pronunciation
I'm not sure if you're referring to the spelling or the pronunciation, but it's spelled "pronunciation".
How people pronounce it can be either in my experience. Some people say "proNUN"; others say "proNOUN". Both are fine if you ask me.
im kidding luv
You British?
If that was to me, please don't call me "luv"
There was nothing in your post to show if you were kidding or not. My response was to clarify any confusion, as there are people here genuinely trying to learn correct spelling/pronunciation.
no
hahah
It just a normal thing to say, isnāt it?
People say things like āluvā and ādarlingā even if they donāt know you
I can't find voice chat can someone help me
I think you have to scroll down to the bottom
Depends very much on who's saying it and in what context. Sometimes words like "luv", "darling", or whatever are meant innocently, but they're quite often used in a disrespectful or condescending way as well.
Frankly, I don't personally care how it's meant. I don't like it and feel it's inappropriate from someone I don't know. I think it's perfectly reasonable to politely ask not to be addressed in a way that I don't like being addressed š¤·

Hello every one who is the head of this group????

hello everyone, I love you all, just don't think that I'm gay, please
You sure about that bro
Hello everyone
How to pronounce 120k in verbal English?
One hundred and twenty thousand
Or, one hundred and twenty kay
What about One and Twenty k?
That's also feasible.
First, I find it funny when itās pronunciation and nobody is actually giving the audio answer
one hundred twenty thousand formal
and hundred twenty K for informal/casual
example: i spent one hundred and twenty K on my car
example 2: that car will be one hundred and twenty thousand
Whether it be formal or informal, both are correct
That way sounds very strange to me. "One and twenty" makes me think of an archaic way of saying 21; I'm not sure if I've ever heard someone say 120 like that
I'd say it as "one twenty K" or "one hundred twenty thousand". Maybe "one hundred twenty K", but if I'm shortening the "thousand" to "K", I'm probably in the mood to drop the "hundred", too xD
Thank y'all!!! That makes sense!!!!!!!
why do we spell it "pronunciation" and not "pronounciation" when we have "pronouns"?
I believe it's because it has different phonetics and has no relation to the word "pronouns".
"Pronunciation" is related to "pronounce", not "pronouns" š
But the point is valid, and the answer is ... ehhh š¤·
How do you pronounce height and hyperbole?
Hi-t for height
And
Hi-per-bo-lee for hyperbole
Using strictly English characters ;-;
height: [hajt]
(like the greeting "hi" + /t/)
hyperbole: [hajĖpÉbÉÉ«ij]
("hi" + per [like in "person"] + buh [like in "but"] + lee [like the end of "quickly"])
Note that pronunciation differs by region/dialect. This is how they are pronounced in General American.

How to get rid of my stupid accent?
idk my accent is german so my friends think i am a villain
ok cool
That's dumb af
Try to focus on speaking slower and clearer. Really think about annunciating each word in the way you want it to sound. Practise at home and around friends as often as you can to develop habits. Try finding someone who is Advanced or Fluent (the roles) and ask them for some help as they possilby experienced similar struggles when learning themselves.
i canāt pronounce the R idk why pls someone help

kinda yeah
Are you struggling to not roll the r?

Hello everyone
Hello there! Is anyone a fan of the Mid-Atlantic accent? š
Hi there, I'm looking for someone who can improve my English. My interests are programming, technology, photography and all topics. My dm is open
Happy to help in the server but not in DMs...
Perhaps you could help OrcaShamu in the proofreading channel
It looks like you guys are already helping him enough
I thought maybe it would be good to have a second opinion. I want to make sure Iām not telling them the wrong thing
l
Sure, thanks, I need to improve my pronunciation
Bro what is wrong with me, why does every native speaker I encounter not understand my English? Every time I thought I was speaking clearly, the person I talked to would still reply āsorry?ā, someone even heard my 20 as 25 todayā¦
Going through same. Probably some guidance from fellow homies would help
i think the speakers you encounter are simply deaf
but it may be that theyre not, although... this sounds extreme, when i listen to your recordings then there is just no way somebody would think your 20 sounds like 25
id suppose somebody could potentially not catch words like "thursday" or "squirrel", which are just difficult to say properly every single time, but not something so simple as 20
or "thought", "taught" vs "fought" vs "sought", thats definitely something people mess up very easily, but thats still not even close to 20 when it comes to the difficulty, its way worse
Ive no idea how this might be happening, it sounds crazy to imagine lmao
How I can pronunciate the" 've "?
The phrase is:
I've been.
/aiv 'bi:n/
"Have" when put into contraction form ('ve) just makes the short "v" sound.
Above, SaMer has put it in phonetics, but a small explanation of the actual sound/reason is helpful too
Thx bro
Thank you so very much
maybe i should record myself talking on the street one day lmao
My heart goes out to you
with pity
Did I do right?
Yeah you did
Phonetic spellings can just be a bit confusing without context :)
Guys can someone give feedback on my pronunciation? I am planning to take the toefl test but their speaking AI is giving me low 20/100 consistently. My test is next week so I'm losing hope š„²
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1l9j9cgseHNwIPXNJJAavTpgdXO2U_rNA/view?usp=drive_link
I have no idea why it's giving you such a low score. Your pronunciation was pretty much perfect.
Maybe it's your accent? AIs struggle with those sometimes. But that's the only thing I can hear that might cause you to get a lower score.
hi, thanks for the feedback! yeah you're right it might be the accent. I noticed the transcribed speech to be really off too. guess there's not much I can do for the time being.. accents suck because I know I sound off but have no clue on how to fix it lol
p.s. if i may, do you think human graders will have as hard a time understanding me?
A human grader will have little to no trouble. You sound very clear and and your word choice is great.
Only thing about human graders is they might mark off for saying "umm" when you pause. It's better to just not talk until you figure out what you want to say.
this is reassuring to hear. thank you very much, have a nice day!
You too :)
AI is AI, neural networks make a lot of mistakes on every field, dont fully trust it. Human assessment is superior
yeah but TOEFL makers says this AI will have a part in grading my results. really bummed out lol
i should probably take a look myself, at your pronunciation, wait
yeah youre very good
AI is talking nonsense, youre clear and very good
if this all was something you were coming up with in real time while speaking, then thats a great flow and good fluency, no way it is supposed to be a low score
you make sense, your vocabulary may be way broader than what youve just used since even these words that were used so far in the recording were pretty, hm, beyond basics lets say, and you are able to express yourself when it comes to abstract topics
you havent even made a single grammar mistake in this speech, at least as far as i can tell, and its not even like you were struggling with this, it came out natural and you had no doubts
surely they'd need to test you with multiple different topics to see if your vocabulary is wide enough to deal with many contexts, but it probably is, your word choices were straight to the point
thank you so much for your detailed feedback! its much needed after multiple attempts to get the AI to understand me.
I think I'll stop relying on this AI for the time being. It brings me no good besides dragging my confidence down lol.
Have a wonderful day!
in real life nobody cares if you speak british accent, american accent, australian accent, or some mix of them and your own one, you just gotta be understandable and capable of conveying the message

How can i pronouce new words in a fast sentence? And long words
how can i practice ?
Try enunciating your words more. You kind of slur your "S" sounds and your "TH" and "CH" sounds are too close.
It sounds like you also put the enfasis on the wrong parts of the word in some cases. I can't pinpoint exactly what words though.
Try reading a couple words in advance of what your speaking.
It helps make you sound fluent, but it takes practice.
And don't be afraid to pause even when you're trying to read fast, it's better to pause than to mess up on words you know.
As for long words, the tride and true sound-it-out method is the best.
If nothing else use tts so you can hear it aloud
If you mean English, try talking in voice channels with people who speak English fluently or native. There's also a literature VC where they take turns reading paragraphs of books and that's helpful for good practice as well. Really reading any book aloud is helpful as well.

Wor (long O)-sti-shire (long I) sauce
wooooor stiiiiiiiii shiiiiiiiiire sauce?
Yeah pretty much
The O is kinda a mix between an O and an A sound
your "th" sound in "think" was slightly off. You either just made a "f" sound like in "fight", or you tried making the proper th sound but it kinda blended into f. Or it was actually correct, but I do not hear this properly, this can be possible as well. Your "okay" had a russian vibe to it, because it sounded a little bit like "ok-yey", which is the way russians tend to go. Hard to estimate
the "th" in "they" was also not really right, it sounded simply like "dey", which is not really very bad, since th in they is not the same th as in think, but it is not really very accurate
Your "accent" was definitely not done the american way, it sounded like something an european would say
but, the stress accent was not obviously russian, it seems correct to me in every word you said, so you dont really have a very thick obvious russian accent
it is likely that you are a german, but I doubt so. I would bet that you are a slovak, but am not 100% sure. anyway you most likely are an european, not sure which side of europe you are from, but it seems really unlikely that youre an asian or an african, or a south american
Hello everyone
I usually hear it pronounced as something like [ĖwÉŖ.stÉ.ŹÉ] (WIH-stuh-shuh) sauce
that's a great analysis and it helps me to understand my own accent
if other people wanna try to guess I won't tell the answer now
DM it to me then
my curiosity is already here
and knowing people answer here very randomly, you may get an answer today, tomorrow, or after a week
alright
that's ok I'll wait
@finite sapphire so go on accept my friend request I can't dm you
done. Tbh i somehow assumed it works without requests but apparently not
I'm not good at guessing accents, lol, but my first thought was Spanish? Not sure why, but I'm getting a Romance language vibe from your accent, although it could very possibly be something else.
The only nationality I feel confident saying you're not is German, and I'm mainly basing that on the fact that your T in "times" was unaspirated
I think definitely European as well
id definitely have to know more about phonetics to be able to figure out if a t is aspirated or not
For sure European.
In Spain they tend to use the āthā
When I heard the recording, the āthā sound was far off but the vowels do sound like they come from a Romance language
I maybe would say Portugal or Romania
Iām not good at guessing btw
amazing, i was able to notice the th was off lmao
cant believe it since i myself make th mistakes
Portugal, Romania or Italy are my guesses
It seems like the Egyptian accent, I have a few Egyptian friends and watched a lot of documentaries on Ancient Egypt with Egyptians being the presenters. The only difference that I noticed was Egyptians pronounce 'th' as a zed sound
Definitely not Italian
Oh wait I already know your nationality
š
I spoke to you before
Actually it could be, thinking about it now
Nvm itās not you that I guessed for
Iām that tired today
š
Go bo bo's
Itās quite hard to catch sometimes
I need a British English translator
I think that British English may be the hardest for me to understand š

When did you even speak to me lmao. I dont remember
Youāre the Palestinian from West Bank right?

Lmfao what. I am polish
Where did you even take this from
Mmm, true. Maybe not Spanish then.
I also don't hear any noticeable accent on the W in "where" (there's a bit of an accent on the word as a whole, but I think it's the vowel), which makes me exclude German again, as well as most Slavic and Germanic languages. Could just be well-practiced, though xD
I'll wait a little bit and then I'll tell my nationality
Someone else had the exact same name as you š
He was also known as black cat
but that's crazy
Can you tell us which continent it is?
you are so divided about my accent
if I say that it won't be funny
I've seen spanish, egyptian that's crazy
š
someone told me I sound like swedish
Ah yeah, there is somebody who has it the same. The profile photo is different tho
Definitely not Swedish
I'm guessing a middle Eastern accent
the guy who said this was 100% sure
Lmfaoo
I also got finnish accent, chinese, vietnamese
yeah yeah they were 100% sure of what they were saying
You are not viet, by no means, ive talked to many viets lmfaooo
I mean
you've only heard 14 seconds of me speaking
I think I got a lot of inconsistencies in my accent to get such responses
yes but if you were vietnamese, this would be screaming at me, viet accent is one that i am really good at noticing

They tend to have a high pitched voice
My dad is Chinese. No chance you are š
I already guessed
Me and schuyler both pointed out youre an european
Soooo
I'd take it as a compliment. Means you're probably avoiding the obvious mistakes people from your country are expected to make lol
this essentially just revealed that there are no obvious cues here, since if there were, theyd hidden
true
so any obvious mistakes are on purpose
or they are insignificant
to determining the country
*for
I've always had in my head that proper thick Canadian accent
Sooo does that mean "yeah exactly, European is wrong" or "yeah exactly, that's right"
Or neither and that was referring to something else
What if it doesnt refer to the fact of being an european at all
Lol yeah, just thought that too xD
I'm not purposely doing the mistakes
same brains schuyler. The second time today
You have some polish brain right there
and youre connecting to mine
š from me?
Itās not thick
Itās just how I pronounce my vowels
I basically sound American but I say the vowels differently
That's seems intriguing
Think of it as Californian splashed with a little bit of Irish, Scottish, New York, and French
Wow! That's a cool mix
What if they are british and they just somehow got rid of the british
magically erasing all the british from the british
Like gotta think outside the box. They dont hold a native role, so maybe this is actually not true, and they in fact are a native
And the "th" couldve been just fabricated to be incorrect
J'aime la france! Escargot! La revolution!
Ƨa c'est bien dit
So fromch
That doesn't sound like French AT ALL
I dont speak french. My friend taught me
š«
I can do my strongest french accent rn
OOOO š«š· I would never have guessed French :O
Turn into a baguette
alright gimme one sec
And show us the real baguette
I did get the family right, though š š
I've never heard a French person sound like that
I was close
this audio shows what I sound like most of the time when I speak english
understandable not gonna lie
:
Am dying lmfao
If I'm specifically listening for a French accent, I can kind of hear it now. But it's really subtle. That's awesome :D
yeah of course now that you know I'm french you're biased
but yeah in some way you can still hear it
a common mistake that most french people do is with the H sound
and that's the sound I struggle the most with
I am mr. baguette and I came here to look for ha penis.
š
I mean, happiness, of course. Not h a penis
Itās very thick
yeah I got it dw
I struggle the most with R in english, my default is slavic harsh R
Schuyler cant make polish R i bet
Ello, I am looking for apenis. I do not esitate in life, i am always appy
I can, but only if I exaggerate it a lot. AmeRRRRRyka
I struggle with the English R, too, for the record lmao
amerrryka lmfaoo. Can you say angry kurwa?
average french sentence
oney, the traffic is pretty ectic today
I don't know that word, but I have a feeling it's something weird
kuRRRRwa
its the most common poland meme ever
and this is actually the strongest swear word in polish
you cant get more rude than that lmao
Like there is a rule, the harsher R is, the more anger you express using it right
Ah. Jasne xD
You were typing like few minutes just to say this
jasne jak sÅoÅce
a saying, as bright as the sun. Means something is very clear
I started to doubt if I was saying that right and looked it up lol
My problem is overthinking lmao
nah its perfect. Perfekcyjnie. Nic dodaÄ nic ujÄ Ä
You gotta tell this your polish friends if they ask whether something looks nice/is nice or something. "Nic dodaÄ nic ujÄ Ä" is a saying meaning that its already perfect, nothing can be added to improve and nothing can be taken away to improve
Like:
- did I do this right?
- nic dodaÄ nic ujÄ
Ä
(so, its perfect)
Rozumiem. DziÄki :)
That time no xD
okay amazing
it is understandable, but thays a way too short of a message to judge it properly tbh
thats likely some slavic accent
hellloooo
I agree
š
š
@finite sapphire If I'd be honest, then I am not slavic, I am actually a person with a different nationality, I was planning to fake a French accent to see how good it will be š
My fake French accent sounds more Slavic/Russian
The "R" was "Rrrr"
yes, but it was not russian accent
you kinda did fake the french indeed, but not enough lol
ello
lmao
where are you from originally
India
yeah that was not expected lmao
xD
All Indians do not have that stereotypical Indian accent
Accent changes in India from place to place
yes, i am aware of this, i have spoken to indians who sounded a bit british tbh
They probably were born in the UK and lived their whole life there
one told me they lived few years there but most of their life they spent in india
hmm, interesting
sometimes accent just change
Hello
hello
Hello ! šš½
Hi everyone
Honestly 0/10
Ok xD
3/10 you got that bit at the beginning but then it dies off
I gave you 1/10
has anybody here studied pronunciation and accent from the book called 'Mastering The American Accent' by Lisa Mojsin?
I would say 0/10
If you have it by any chance, please share it to me

That was good, it sounded like the word but in a Scottish accent
lmao i agree with this comment so much
the sound i heard was not what i expected
How do I remove the Scottish accent ššš
I remember I used to struggle saying āwaterā similar to āalrightā
Why do you wanna get rid of it?
Probably extend the length of the āiā sound by a bit
Ok
I wanna speak clearly bro
I extended the āiā
I think my āalrightā sounds better now thanks @acoustic owl

What else is there to improve on?
Definitely, I think youāve lost that Scottish accent
Much better now
My suggestion would be to shorten the "al". Right now you're pronouncing both syllables as roughly the same length, maybe even drawing out the "al" longer than "right".
The stress should be on "right", and "al" should be shorter and less emphasized. It's not unusual to barely hear the first syllable at all in quick, natural speech
You may hear it with the "al" drawn out sometimes, which could be for number of reasons that are hard to explain out of context, but it's not the default pronunciation
Gimme something to read to test my pronunciation
all right?
Art ye all right?
That sounds pretty good to me :)
anybody here working on their accent?
What are you saying?
well the sound it pretty good if you ask me .. i don't think that you need any more clearity in it ..
Alright
Can somebody teach me british accent
Le para gente. Thatās Spanish
I cannot as I am not British, however listening to British voices can help you get used to the sounds they use, I will also recommend forvo or word reference for British pronunciation (word reference is more consistent with each word)
As well as learning about how standard American English is different to standard British English. Examples: the difference in vowel sounds, the difference in vocabulary use, and the intonation/flow of a British speaker
Interesting, is the 'g' not pronounced or is it pronounced like a 'y'
How can I sent an audio on PC? I only saw the button on the cellphone.
record an audio file of yourself on a seperate PC app
then send it
