u can get around in the UK and not die so i guess smart enough
Lol
It's the UK, not the Amazonian jungle.
I suppose some roads can be a bit dangerous.
you gotta pray to the god the shots work cuz if they dont, or its too late, then you end up dropping dead sooner or later lol
That's scary. Didn't realise that.
We're (usually) taught as a young age to stay the hell away from wild or feral animals.
i always am scared of stray dogs because of this
I have no desire to go near an unknown animal, if it can bite me or I get any sense it's dodgy in some way.
I bet!
Remember: if it bites you, bite it back. It can't eat you if you eat it first!
yeah and its worse if they got rabies cuz they start to be aggressive for no real reason, or very oversensitive, and can attempt to attack even tho human didnt make any suspicious moves
woah, scam
Ok, gonna fry that dog
hopefully the viruses will be fried too
Lol Damn, I literally just reported it. That's quick.
its either like they get a special notification/channel for them or theyve got some bot which judges by the keywords
if i typed the same and you reported me, maybe i would be banned very quickly too, cuz maybe there is some mechanism quicker than humans
Not gonna try
lol i swear i was sure it got deleted by some lurking mod
With great powers...
Or something
I think it's die Macht, but aside from that, perfect.
i know it from a song lmao
...yes, it is. Just checked.
Awesome.
I'm quite aware that we're chatting up a storm in the wrong channel, but the other places seem to be swamped with toxic nonsense or heavy debates. I really think there should be more general channels. At least 1 more.
There's another server I visit that has 2 general channels, and it works perfectly.
Lol
Yes. Little princess, you have the power, you are the Queen of the night. You are young and wonderfully beautiful, and every arse wants to go with you.
Doesn't all translate too well, but there you go.
yesss i know that, its funny cuz i would never say that myself
Oh, OK.
but i comprehend this in this particulat context
*r
cuz i remember myself checking it multiple times
The Arsch bit is weird as heck.
But I suppose we have similar idioms in English. I assume it's an idiom.
They could even do something like creating three of them, just in case, there are thousands of users on this server
There. Better safe than sorry.
Right! 3 would be great, given the number of people here. The other server is tiny.
yeah, and depending on the time of the day, all you get in "general" is israel vs palestine debates, or people insulting each other
or people spamming hi
pretty classic crowd
I recall seeing something fancier than "crowd", it was like... rabble?
in a british book, it was a description of a crowd, and the crowd was probably referred to as a rabble, the people were said to "teem as ants"
Not sure if that's one word. Probably not. German compound words are messing with my English.
Oh yeah, that sounds familiar.
I've heard that teeming with ants idiom before, mostly when I was younger.
Or maybe I'm just thinking of „teeming“ in general.
or another weird one, thats probably the most bizzare, i recall there was a word like pullulation, it was used to describe how dense they are, like there were many in a narrow place
Or maybe more like... there is a looot of them, and they move, so maybe thats what pullulation truly is
germinating, ive no idea what this is, gonna check
So, when everyone gets together in General, they're pullumating, I guess. Hah
To spread germs, I believe.
Or maybe to spread as if a germ; in the nature of a germ.
pullumating?
No, germinating.
The quote block above is for pullumation.
One of the definitions I found online.
I actually have a German dictionary enabled on the browser. The English one is uninstalled. EVERYTHING is apparently a big red ERROR. Lol
I think I underestimated how much English I'd be typing.
Please learn German. 😛
I'm kidding, don't, it's horrific.
ok but if a plant grows, then the plant can bud, burgeon i think, thats a word, and umm... idk what else, it can develop blossoms
Flowers bloom, they blossom into lovely pretty flowers.
yes, they bloom, amazing
I assume budding is the early stage, when they grow buds.
they can also proliferate
so it develops and grows bigger, more complex, generally spreads
I guess so.
Probably just spreads
Spreading is what I think of with that word.
That's another good one.
i suppose
I speak English prolifically. I can't remember how to spell it. I think that's right.
Not 100% sure what it means, other than by context.
To a much greater extent.
To do something a lot.
That's all I have.
Maybe something like "The author published many new books that year, he was truly prolific"
Maybe.
It's not a word I hear too often. If I do, it's usually in the context of doing something a lot, or spreading prolifically.
Producing or characterized by abundant works or results: synonym: fertile.
OK, that's good, I more or less had it right. Lol
i kinda got it right a bit
Yep.
yeah, its way less amazing when i speak aloud lol, i think longer and i stress, unnecessarily
Oooh.
My spoken German is crap. I also take much longer, and my pronunciation can be a bit rough sometimes. The pronunciation isn't too bad, but the ability to form sentences „live“ is really difficult.
Hi
hi, if youve come here to ask something then please do
Hi. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
yeah, its quite awkward when you forget some important word, accidentally, you remembered that word very well just a while ago
Exactly. It's so difficult sometimes, in German, because you have all those dangling words on the end of sentences or clauses, which you have to keep in mind. And then there's keeping track of prepositions and/or what they're referring to. It feels more like a memory exercise.
Even if you get them right, you can forget some simple word
like, a leash
Yep.
or to bloom, like in my case
Like:
Ich habe Interesse darauf, wenn man ein Auto kauft, und dann geht man zur Schule, und man spielt mit einer Katze, und ...
At that point, it's... where was I?
That block might as well have come straight from Duolingo, come to think of it.
The „darauf“ is referring to something or everything afterwards, per the context.
So you have to keep that in mind.
it happens in english too, just not so much, its not that complex usually
german grammar makes it more complex
anyway i gotta go, bye bye and thanks for the talk
Okidoke, likewise. Bye!
What is "boo boo" in English?
A bruise I think...?
its any accident or injury, typically used when talking to a child
What's different between "I did like" and "I liked"?
I've often heard "<Noun> did <verb in present>", but what's the difference between this and "<Noun> <verb in past>"?
A boo boo simply means that you have made a silly mistake. For example: "I made a boo boo connecting the CD player to my computer, and now it won't boot anymore." It has nothing to do with children.
We might call that a “boo-boo” when you make a silly mistake but it is a small injury like a scrape or a bruise that a child would get. “Oh what happened to your knee? Did you get a boo-boo?” Maybe there is a regional difference in the use of this phrase.
^
“I liked it” could mean yes I enjoyed it.
Person 1: What did you think of the film?
Person 2: Oh, I liked it.
“I did like” emphasizes that I liked something but now I have learned new information and don’t like it anymore.
Person 1: What did you think of the concert?
Person 2: I did like it, but now that I know more about that artist, I am not sure how I feel about it.
Or it can just emphasize that “Yes, I DID like it!” Like the person was surprised because they expected not to like it.
Likee... "I did like" means that I'm liked it, but now i don't?
Right it could mean that. If I asked my friend how they liked their date and they said, “I did like it.” I would ask if something happened to change their mind.
When I say "<Noun> did <verb simple>", i mean that noun no longer executes the verb?
Hmmm, I am trying to think if this formula holds for every construct…no I think it is unique to the word “like”.
Maybe it depends on context.
Okay, thank you for help
“I asked you to do your homework after school.” response: “I did do it!”
I thought you were going to bake cookies. response: “I did bake them.”
Well, It seems that I understand
Good afternoon.
What does "cooked" means in slang?
Cooked could mean a lot of things in slang, as in cooked or being roasted when someone in a way makes fun of you with a comeback, or Cooked, example "Who let bro cook" as in who gave him responsibility (Best not to use slang in the English language)
One of the context is like "she is cooked."
"[pronoun] cooked" could also mean they did something very well
if it's someone is cooked that mean they ugly
or f#cked
Grammar Question. Which one of the following sentences is grammatically correct?
**A) "See? I told you I'd be fine."
B) "See? I told you I'll be fine."**
This was spoken by a man who has just returned from the battlefield. Before leaving, he had told his wife he would survive the war. So upon his return, he reminded his wife of what he had said previously.
thats reported speech, A is correct
reported speech occurs after phrases like to tell, to say, etc, and the tense after it is changed to its equivalent in the past
so "She told me she would be here" is also reported speech
or "He was told he would win this competition"
thanks for your feedback! 🙂
Yup I can confirm it's A
Bill: -“Where can we meet?” – Joanna: “___________.”
A. at your house B. I do not know
C. I do not want to meet you D. It’s up to you
the corect answer is D
why not A?
honestly, if you make me think about this in terms of real life situations, then every single one of these is possible
although most of them would be quite funny
ye
but
uk
we have to pretend to be polite when doing the test
lol
okay so, my thinking is that A can not be correct, since youre literally forcing it onto the other person
"at your house", it sounds as if you were deciding for that person instead of them
as if you implied that they dont matter, and you can choose that for them, and furthermore, you can even choose their own house even tho it is not yours
ohhhh ye
lol logicc
lollll trueeee
okay so do you wanna know how to say answer D in Vietnamese?
of course i do want to know that
it's "tuỳ mày"
Guys can someone tell me is this correct?
I think correct
I really don’t know for certain. But I would say the adult with the child would be casual. The two people on the bench I would describe as formal.
hi guys! i have a question, can i use or say ''wanna'' instead of ''want to'' like an abbreviation? they will have the same meaning?
yeah, "I wanna go walking" = "I want to go walking"
I wanna have a drink = I want to have a drink
I wanna meet you = I want to meet you
wanna is very casual tho, so dont use this in formal settings
okay! thank you very much
Is pass this photograph BY him or pass this photograph TO him correct? tryna write something but Idk which is correct
If you're giving the photograph for them to check something then you would pass it by him, otherwise I would say you would pass it to him.
OK THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCHH
How do you call something that is like a gift from birth?
something like golden ticket
hm, you can say that if someone was born with seemingly natural skill to, lets say, play violin, then they have a flair
a flair is like a natural talent, ability to do something well
so, this kinda is a gift, in a way
thank you actually it is an inanimate thing I am trying to apply this notion
company, country, estate
Do you mean like intrinsic value?
Thanks not exactly, say your recently bought estate has an oil field(?) on it. That is something that you would try to capitalize upon right? That is like a golden ticket not to be wasted
you would not build a regular house on top of that
Hmm….but you want something fancier than natural resources
I am sorry I don't understand
yeah treasure is close, but isn't there a regular expression maybe from slang for such things?
this is like a cousin of "bargain"
After purchasing it, he discovered his new land had a cache of natural resources upon which he could build his future wealth.
Could use the words “flush” or “loaded”
These would both mean a wealth of something
I guess I am looking for a synonym for goldmine
they know how to make use of their kind of given goldmines
Motherlode, bonanza, abundant source
They know how to make use of their motherlode of natural assets.
thank you
Not completely sure what you're looking for, but I'll suggest "windfall" just in case...
What doesn "ocean's " means? like ocean's thirteen.
yo, you're here too!
I jus joined
If you're talking about the movie, Ocean is the protagonist's last name, Danny Ocean.
I'm not sure what "Thirteen" refers to but if you've watched the film you probably know more than me.
It appears to be part of a movie trilogy, Ocean 11, Ocean 12 and Ocean 13.
's is the possessive suffix if you were wondering
What does the word "to sprawl" mean?
It refers to the numbers of thieves involved in the heist
The apostrophe is posessive. The theives "belong" to Danny Ocean
iirc it refers to the team of 13 people so "Ocean's 13" is just ocean's team
"to sprawl" means to take up a lot of space. For example: the city is sprawling. He sprawled on the couch.
"looking for practicing" and "looking to practice"
which is correct here?
"i'm looking ___ english"
If I understood you right, you should use phrasal verb 'look for'. Verb 'to look' has a different meaning.
but with generic noun 'practice' not ing... although I don't know if ing would work here at all....
and, maybe, 'look forward" is a better choice.
I'm looking forward to practicing my English.
what is the difference between "is" and "does" when asking a question?
What is the rabbit eating?
What is bitten by the rabbit?
What does the rabbit eat?
When there is one verb in the sentence then you use "is". And when there are multiple nouns in the sentence then you would use "are".
And when using "does" it should be used when referring to something in the third person in the present tense.
is your dog bite?
or
does your dog bite?
Does your dog bite
is your English is fluent?
or
does your English is fluent?
do is auxiliary
be is auxiliary and linking verb
Is your dog scary? -Is here a linking verb scary is an adjective
Is your english fluent
If your question about adjective you should use be (is/are etc) because it's linking verb. Are you newcomer?
If your question about action you should use be or do, It depends on your verb tense
I can see why you're confused yerin lol
alr. it's getting more clear now
Welcome dude! If Andy is ever bullying you too hard this can your safe haven 😄
Okay so I might have figured it out
what do you mean
So you use "is" when there's no verb in the sentence. And you use "does" when there's a verb
nooo, sloth is nice!
Like with "is your English fluent." There's no proper verb in that so you use "is" But with "does your dog bite?" bite is the verb in the sentence therefore you would use "does".
"What does my poison TASTE like?"
how about this line? I don't see any verb
like is a verb
taste is a verb
A verb is an action word and when you're tasting something the action is tasting
is it monday tho?
That hurts my eyes 🥹
I really don't mean to be rude about this but I don't think is the right chat for this current convo @bold hemlock
smh, that's not a cat 😔
Ik , that's the reaction of a dog to ur statement
huh, what is the noun then?
It would be posion
It's not a convo, it's unhinged bonkers recluse trying to socialise while being completely off the gourd
yeah, I see.
well that dog is very wrong
I really have no idea what you mean by that but bet. I don't mean to interupt.
👍 you have any more questions?
Wishing you a pleasant day ahead my lord.
Thank you sire, and I wish you the same.
No, thank you. I can't say that I usually meet verb "like"... that's strange but it's true... ... I just realized that.
not in the questions definitely.
I don't really understand what you're trying to say there...
but reguardless I am going to go back to sleep, I'm an eepy man. So if anyone has any more questions I will be back when I have re-awoken 🫡
right. It must be a preposition not a verb. I don't see it often anyway.
"He rushed straight up to the monster and aimed a slash of his sword at its side."
What is a slash here?
Hi everyone, can someone explain the difference between "in court" and "at the court", please?
"at" - for kings "in" - for law... ?
"in" is often used to suggest active participation at a particular location. e.g. "in class" signifies that they're in a lesson in a classroom. likewise, "in court" signifies participation in an ongoing court proceeding or hearing. the use of the propositional is often contextual as a result. "at" is usually reserved for physical presence. "at the court" doesn't imply there's an active session, but that someone is physically at a court.
"in" can often be both, but "at" isn't used to suggest active participation as often.
Question. Is the following sentence proper English?
Sentence: There are at least a thousand people here to register.
Context: They are at a certain place to register for a certain event.
yes
Do think so, @bright pulsar ?
At least a thousand people are registering here.
What do you think about this, @hollow night ?
Or Here are at least a thousand people registering.
uh... yes.
thanks for your feedback, Akira!
Hey, would anyone be so kind and help for a minute or two. I got the quest to interview some people from different countrys (not germany) about the topic what christmas means to you. I thought Discord is the best place to do this because their is such a variety. I would take a Screen recording so i need People with Video. This is a school project, so the Videos are i would say privat. I need it for a English Task so i'm looking forward for help
Hello! Are these two sentences are same ?
Jane invited all of her friends but Alya to her birthday party.
Jane invited all of her friends but not Alya to her birthday party.
If they're different, could you please explain why it's so ^^
Ty for help
It's correct but you can say neither would I instead 😇
Neither do I would be more suitable 🙂
Hi, pull and pool have very close pronunciations. Do guys pronounce them at the same way or you differentiate between them?
Ohh thanks 🙏🏻
She does have a certain je ne sais quoi, I'll give her that
And yeah, she is actually very nice; she's helped me multiple times 😊
Qual é a diferença entre “Hello” e “Hey”?
where i can find the questions?
The "not" in the second sentence is unnecessary as the "but" already excludes "Alya". They both make sense and but the first sentence is more concise and flows better.
Hello é uma saudação mais formal, geralmente usada em contextos profissionais ou entre pessoas que não se conhecem ou que se conhecem pouco já Hey é mais informal e geralmente usada entre amigos e familiares acho que é isso
Hello is a more formal greeting, typically used in professional settings or between people who don't know each other well or at all. Hey is more informal and is typically used between friends and family I think that's it
They have a slightly different pronunciation, "pool" uses a more elongated "oo" sound as in the "ue" in "blue, while "pull" uses a more relaxed "u" sound as in the "oo" in "foot".
Thank you.
you're welcome
What's the difference between "to compel" and "to obligate"?
So compel is usually something that you are doing to yourself. Like you are compelled to help someone. You're the one forcing yourself to do it. And obligate is usually when an outside force is forcing you to do something
They're both correct, but you could instead of using "but/ but not" use "except" to make it sound more smooth.
For example: "Jane invited all of her friends, except for Alya, to her birthday party.
For what uses"used to"?
They both are understood to be the same.
The first is using 'but' with the meaning of except. It is usually nice to use except in this form, as but is more casual.
The second sentence is a contraction of the sentence "... Invited all her friends but (did not invite) Alya... ". In this sentence 'but' is used with the meaning 'however'.
'used to' refers to a thing that you did in the past but no longer do now. Example 'I used to go to school' (but don't now). This is only used to refer to a past action.
If you combine it with the verb 'to be' it means to be accustomed to. Example 'I am used to (accustomed to) standing all day at work'. This usage can be used in the past present and future.
Thanks!
Both mean the same. They are just used more often in different locations of the world, or by people of different cultures or ages. 'hello' is the most basic form of the greeting and is used everywhere. 'hey' is considered slightly more casual compared to hello, and it's used because it doesn't sound like you've just learned English. But that is just a nuance to help you gauge the words. Basically both are fine.
For the various meanings of court... Law court, tennis court, at the court means you are there but not a participant in the events of the court, and in the court usually means you are a participant of the court,... a player or criminal or judge or umpire.
But there are people who will use them interchangeably also, so it's not a set rule. A judge will say anyone sitting listening is also 'in' the court for example, but the news journalists waiting outside are 'at' the court.
but I've resigned myself to it , but I have given myself up to it
which one much more sounds better
Is it okay if i say to bunch of people sitting somewhere “hello guys” when there are couple of girls there? Is it correct way of saying smth to people? If it is not, how can i greet boys and girls at the same time?
That is a strange question, but anyway I’m curious because i often say it
Resign sounds cooler 😎
thanks for your help @forest solar and @bright pulsar
It's usually fine to use guys for a mixed-gender group. But some places are having a lot controversy over gender, like America.
Oh, ok, i got you, thanks for the help
Yes, 'guys' is generally fine for a mixed bunch but as Hawk says, there could be some controversy. I tend to use 'hello folks' although it may sound slightly quaint, it's good for mixed groups and it's gender neutral.
Oh I see Tysm for the help ^^
Tysm for the help ^^
Oh I see tysm for the help ^^
what is the differ betwean "im very busy" "im too busy" and what is more better (sorry for poor english)
The latter implies you're too busy to do something. The former is just stating that the speaker is very busy. Neither one is better than the other, as it depends on the context.
Can I substitute "but" with "apart from" or "other than" in this case? I feel that the latter doesn't fit here. Am I right? Thank you!
you could go for "except for"
"i invited all my friends to the party, well, except for that girl"
except comes from "exception"
Yes, that's okay also
Guys
from what I understand, the term "get" seems to combine some meanings of other terms with the idea of "getting" them.
Hi! Does anybody know a website or PDF book for the subject **participle ** and ** **"ing" clauses" / "ed" clauses / having been / having know / knowing that /
The past participle of a regular verb usually ends in -ed, just like the simple past tense. But the past participles of
irregular verbs don’t follow this rule. When forming a past participle, it will usually end ‘-ed’. But this depends on whether the verb is regular or irregular. The difference here is:
Regular past participles are all formed by adding ‘-ed’, ‘-ied’, or ‘-d’ and match the simple past tense form of the verb (e.g. the simple past tense and past participle forms of ‘kick’ are both ‘kicked’).
Irregular past participles do not follow a regular pattern and have a range of word endings, not just ‘-ed’. And while some irregular verbs use the same form for the simple past tense and past participle (e.g. bend/bent/bent), others use different forms (e.g. drive/drove/driven).
Hey !does anybody knows or help me in writing a SOP?
Why would you do that to her
I'd love to know that too!
hi, guys, is the following sentence right? "Do you have any idea about that?" Someone told me the phrase is awkward. is that so.
i need help with merchant of venice by shakespear .My question is-Describe any person in real life who you feel posesses or displays characteristics of shylock.Justify with atleast 2 illustrations and i cant find any most suitable person like him even if i find kim jong un hitler and other i cant justify it bc shylock was greedy jealous vengeful and also pls not i havent studied merchant of venice but ik only trial scene
This is how I practice my English, watching a movie and writing useful sentences, also trying to voice some actors
It's a good tip for intermediate level I guess
Crazy
"do you know anything about that?" flows better in my opinion
Thanks 😄
"Do you have any idea" works better with anything that's not "about"
Do you have any idea if they sell cars?
Do you have any idea how they make cars?
It's also used in rhetorical questions
Do you have any idea how hard I worked?
But generally, it's just a fancier way of asking "do you know?"
oh, got it. thank you so much~
Do you mean I can use either "apart from" or "other than" in place of "but" in this case? Sorry, I'm a bit slow on the uptake :<
who can answer my question related to merchant of venice pls help
What is the difference between Passive Voice (I’m said to do my homework = someone says to me I do my homework) and Complex Subject (They’re said to have a lot of money = people say they have lots of money) ??
what is difference beetwen lot, very and much?
Frist, the sentence is incorrect, it would use the present perfect
I'm said I have been said
I've been said to = the subject is you and the event happened without any actions from you
They've been said to = the subject is still simple cause it only use "they" and to become complex it should use a modifier, to rewrite as complex it should be like:
A lot of people have said to...
To indicate not group of people but some of what you can consider "people"
A lot is to indicate a quantity of things
(I have a lot of homework to do)
Very is a word that add intensity to another adjective, I've saw that "really" is more common in the UK but they have the same meaning
(I have becomed very strong)
Much is used like "a lot" to count things although I've noticed they mostly use with negative phrases
(There isn't much to do)
To use much in the first phrase I showed you with "a lot" you have to add "so" but here you sound more annoyed
(I have so much homework to do)
Sounds like a book exercise, you'll probably have more understanding by reading the text rather than us responding by chat

@strange compass
thank you so much for helping me
i dont have the book i only kno abt its trial scene teacher gave us project all i know shylock was greedy vvengeful jealous ic ant find any person
It's a text comprension exercise, just write stuff
Generally you are already taking about the thing you know nothing about. So you just need to say "Do you have any idea?" or more commonly "any ideas?".
shall i write kim jong un?
I'm glad the Oxford dictionary lists 'ur' or you'd have to write a lot more. 🧜♀️
Yes, they both work for 'but'
"I invited everyone other than Alya" . Or "I invited everyone apart from Alya" .
Just describe a family member. Even if they are not like Shylock. You can just say they are like him. Make it up.
okk i will try thanks
Hello does anyone know about Phrases and Clauses
Practice makes perfect, Keep up!
A phrase is basically a bunch of words that need a context to have sense
"Have been running lately"
... For what, and who or what is running?
A clause is a set of words that have subject and a verb and have comple meaning
"I run"
is an activity that you do and you don't need to add anything else to say what's your hobby.
Hehe
Not just roasted. But flambé'd, sauteé'd, marianted then deep fried with a layer of chilli powder
what's the difference between a writer and a author?
look how thick that book is💀
What's the difference between THOUGH and ALTHOUGH?
clause and sentence have the same meaning?
Writer and author are sometimes the same. Meaning a person who writes something: book, articles and so on. Writer can also mean a job. Author is more general. It is not necessarily writing only books, texts, but also creating something like music, video or plan. That is author is the creator of that stuff.
Clauses contain a subject (which is the actor) and a verb (which is the action the subject performs). Sentences are made up of independent and dependent clauses that describe a subject, where they are, the mood, and the action they are taking.
Does someone can explain me the idiom "a hell of a lay" please ? I got different translations in French when I use some translation tools
it means that person is good in the bedroom. And I don't mean their ability to sleep
this phrase is a little vulgar though
Thank you so much
Okay, to use surrounded by friends so 😂. Thanks !
if you live in an environment where cooking is a thing, it could mean another thing
It is only vulgar if you believe its vulgar
Mean ?
hi, I've got a question about articles
lately I've been noticing that on websites the button that changes the language usually has the text written on it
"change language"
why is the article missing? and it's not "change the language" instead
not only that but also, do natives omit articles even in situations where the article should be taken into account
Actually I understand the way articles work but at times when I listen to natives I do struggle explaining article omission
Native speakers take a lot of context into account when it comes to speaking. It's why we have abbreviations and contractions. Our brain tends to fill in the article naturally even if it's not there.
In the case of "change language", it's probably used for efficiency. Since native speakers assume that there's an article there, even though there's not, it makes it more convenient to not include it.
In the case of natives not using articles when they should be taken into account, that could probably be narrowed down to specific ways of speaking. If one is speaking a little too quickly, they may accidentally skip over an article in order to not sacrifice speed.
I hope i interpreted your question correctly. if you have any further comments or questions, let me know
thanks a lot for your thorough answer , guys it's such a good thing that I can simply enter this discord channel ask any question that bothers me and get such a deep explanation for free
I've just found an article where it's said that articles are usually omitted in newspaper headlines, notices and user guides that pretty much fulfils my concerns
thanks a lot one more time!
Like if you're laying out dough, they could say the phrase
lmao i think if someone said that in a kitchen even when laying out dough it would just be interpreted as a dirty joke
Hi. I am looking for somebody, who would teach me English.
hey guys, i am italian but overmorrow i kind of got overnight the dream of becoming an actor, i would love to get to the us someday, but my major problems are with pronunciation, can some of you give me some tips on it ?
for an accent i think i am more into a new yorker one (i know there are plenty of them), probably because i am italian
Honestly i suggest just listening and then mimicking. american youtubers/streamers are a good way of doing that, since you're able to pause videos to repeat after them. that's just kind of the thing i've picked up on while learning other languages!
check the international phonetic alphabet. it’s about the sounds. when you learn it you can easily understand how to pronounce words in american or british accent.
hi maybe i can help you
okk i’ll do it
the major problem is about doing those sounds
you can find youtube videos about how to make those sounds with a lot of examples. its all about imitation. search for “ipa sounds and symbols american accent” and boom.. lots of sources 🙂
tyyyy
better off just asking meaning
Hi. I wanna someone to teach me English from United Kingdom.
Hi, what is the difference between "seduction" and "sedition"?
Find these words in online dictionary and compare a definition of them both.
"Seduction" is mostly used with the meaning "persuading someone to have sex with you"
Thank you!
Notwithstanding Robbie's answer,
What you are looking at with computer programs, are buttons with labels. The labels are adjectives that describe the button. This is the critical point. The active are used to list the meaning of describe the object.
The use article would be: "the change language button.". As it is known that the object is a button, this is left off of the label. It does not need to say button, as it is a button. Similarly it requires no article, as the label is just a description.
This is similar to when you wear a name tag at a meeting. The tag does not say 'the Iraqi name tag'. It would just have "iraqi" written on it.
If you go to s hotels and ask for the bridal suite, the for will have written in it "Bridal Suite" as it is a description of the room. It will not say "the Bridal Suite door"
Also with computer buttons, what you are looking at can be thought of as options to answer an assumed question which is what would you like to change? (Name, address, age, language). When spoken it is only necessary to say the answer without the article, so for example you would respond 'address' or to the question "what color would you like: red, blue or yellow". You would respond 'yellow' without an article.
I hope this has made some sense..
I know, right? It's a pocket book

Because natives do not follow Grammar rules as we don't follow them in our mother tongues.
Non-native speakers are learning that language, so they must follow the rules. But natives, on the other hand, they have learned it since they were born, so they don't really need and care about the rules in informal/spoken English.
However, when they want to speak formally, they do follow the rules.
A wrong belief which is very trended nowadays, is that learners should mimic natives. That's wrong! Because you don't know the correct form but they do.
But, yes! After we learn the rules, we can mimic natives and speak like them in informal/spoken English.
First, learn the rules.
What is a noun phrases? and also how do I know where the noun phrases are in a sentence?
Noun phrase is basically a noun with words that give it more information. The whole phrases functions as one noun
They have good examples
what is easier to learn/teach....american or british english?thanks in advance
hey guys, can someone answer me this? is it correct to say "How do you pretend me to..." or should it be "How do you expect me to..."?
What does alpha female means?
is there an actual difference between “i am used to” and “i got used to”? i know the first means that you are used to it, and the second one means that you did it in the past, but i can use both for the same thing, right?
from how i understand it "I got used to" implies that you will elaborate on how you got used to the thing
i.e. "I got used to taking care of a dog by living with my aunt". I think it would sound a little weird if someone just said "I got used to taking care of a dog." without elaborating.
On the other hand, "I am used to" doesnt carry this connotation so you could just say: "I am used to taking care of a dog." without elaborating.
"How do you expect me to..." is correct
Hello I don't understand those parts
Guys
I wanna ask y'all a quick question
My teacher says that the sentence " she has done her homework all day yesterday" is incorrect grammatically
Is he right?
Can husband reference to a woman?
I saw a man who said his husband was italian
I hope he wasn't gay
why do you hope such a thing? anyway, as far as i know you can’t
does it mean he was gay?
he looked like a gentle man😭
To correct your sentence you need the past simple, because yesterday is over. “ she did her homework all day yesterday”
Yeah
we dont know if he is a gentleman or not, but we know that you arent
somebody can be gentle and be gay at the same time
Hello ! Sorry to disturb you😅 I wrote a little text but I am scared some sentences seemed “too French”. Could you read it and tell me how I can improve or if there is any mistakes please?
Hello. Recommend me a totally free speaking e-places on Internet to practice English in groups.
I always use " hopefully" when I am not sure about something for example;
we will get good marks hopefully this semester
It will be clean hopefully
Can you guys suggest any alternatives for that word
Try search a synonyms of hopefully on online dictionaries.

does anybody know a website to practice identifying classes?
hello everyone, what is the correct form > i'm being about... i'm be about or just i'm about....???
Does English Classes and Debate Clubs have before planned schedule? I want to write dates of them in my calendar.
Hi.
Can you recommend me a different ways of learning grammar? Not only from traditional book's exercises.
Could you give me an example? What do you want to express?
C = fluent, C2 being the highest one regarding proficiency, you can take a few tests to evaluate that online
You can phrase those in different ways as well, like: I'm expecting good marks, I wish I get good marks... all them will express your expectations regarding your marks, but they will convey a slightly different meaning tho
Close to the server's banner there is a tab called "events" where you can find the server's schedule for events such as classes/debates/conversation classes
So is b2 considered advanced? A2-b2 intermediate and a1 beginner or what? I thought c1 and c2 were considered advanced speakers but not necessarily fluent
A = beginner, B = intermediate and C = advanced
1 is the lowest, 2 the highest
But there is a third option on the server lol: advanced
I consider C2 to be fluent for personal resons, my bad tho, its actually advanced
Corrected
The fourth option here would be Fluent

What does “get owned” means?
In a slang context get owned have a few meanings: 'get beaten by', 'to be humiliated', 'to be made fool of'.
Bro's has a beginner role.
We're like superheroes. Beginner role is our disguise
yesss!
Are you the Moonie I talked to like 1 month ago
The one who was OG
Yup it's me
I miss the old times ngl
Me too lol. But I made some new friends here so it's not so bad
Aww that's good! I'm glad you are here. You are a familiar face and makes me feel more comfy
I consider C1 or B2 to be fluent
B1 as advanced
A2 as Intermediate
And A1 as Beginner
C2 could be considered as Native or Fluent in my opinion
what are the letters n number for?
They are like rankings to know how advanced you are in speaking english
the official one is like thoskie said tho
I'm just saying my opinion
C2 Is a very high level of english
It not just Fluency
its about mastery of the language
The word Fluent is an Understatement for C2 Speakers
(or am i just overestimating?)
i did cambridge's test for general english and got 22/25
it said i was either B2 First or C1 advanced
I got you. Maybe you are overestimating Haha. Because if you look at what skills should the speaker have in each CEFR level it is way less hard what you think
HUH!!?!?!
Isn't that a good thing? Congrats!
You were underestimating yourself
I don't believe in English tests because they not show a real abilities and skills.
How on Earth did so much happen here while I was away?
For some reason, I can't post images here, but my result in the same test is 23/25.
they are good to estimate your english level but I think that make your judgement on real live interactions is better.
Unless you do, then it is PURE SKILL

what does no "pun intended" mean
It means a person is saying something that could have a humorous meaning, depending on how it is said it may or may not be intended.
This is an intended pun
“Then it hit me”. Could mean the ball hit me or it could also mean then I understood why the ball was getting bigger.
Can anyone tell me the meaning of "hosed with" in the sentence?
"The grass is like layers of
GREEN threads that have been
hosed with water."
It's a marketing scam to get you to sign up for lessons. The word is 'might be' ready for c2. I've you sign up, they throw you in a lower grade and suck the money out of you until you reach c2 which could be a few years away. It's not a true test of your proficiency, just a very simple sample.
To hose means to be using a hose. In this case the hose is pushing out water that is watering the grass. To hose the garden means to water the garden.
To water means to supply water so that plants for example can survive.
What does "on gear" means?
What's the difference between "may" and "might" and how to use em?
"On gear" can mean:
To prepare to do something or to start taking action, especially after having delayed doing so
Also "gear up" means arm yourself soldier, like grab your weapons
No pun intended is a phrase that means you did not mean to make a pun or a wordplay that has a double meaning. For example, if someone says "I'm feeling blue today", this could be a pun on the color blue and the emotion of sadness. If they add "no pun intended", they are saying that they did not mean to make a joke.
They are often pretty interchangeable. Technically, "may" indicates a slightly higher probability than "might."
You can use "may" to express wishes or permission, too.
"May you have a good day."
"May I help you?"
also try playing video games in english and voicing some actors
Might I help you is never a good option?
Hmm, in that case it works too.
Statements are usually using "may." For example, "You may enter." "You may leave."
Hi. I am looking for a serious partner who would teach me English.
I thought polish people easily speak eng
Oh, I think I realize why "Might I help" works! lol, it confused me for a second.
This question is asking permission, but also asking for the likelihood that you will be allowed to help.
can we maybe teach each other?
ok thx!
"don't think less of me" what does it mean?
Hello. Does this sentence make sense ? Its a starting sentence for resume profile summary or something. "With a self-disciplined disposition toward communication, a role in aviation industry where i ould use my language skills would be an ideal place to start my career" especially firs sentence
It means to not underestimate or think that person is less valued than the others
It does make sense but it sounds odd for a resume profile summary, I would say
Guys can you look these questions
I made 8 of them but I need correction I am not sure about answers
second and 9 th question is hard for me also I need help about them
Thanks Peo 👍
There is only one sentence. As an employer, I would think you are being overly complex, in communicating what you are trying to say. And yes, complexity in language is the message, and use of complexity provides an example, but the reaction could be taken as negative. Sometimes good communication is better expressed with simplicity.
Are you able to type your solution for review in the text. I am having issues opening that link, but maybe someone else will answer it for you eventually.
can I send the pictures in dm and can you send the pics in this channel pls

Hi. I have a question: I write with a few of people in English, but they don't correct my grammar mistakes. I'm sure, that I do them, when I'm chatting with other. Do are exist a ways and exercises to write correctly?
You can always ask your friends if they could correct your English, but generally friends are just communicating and accept errors and ignore them as they understand you are not fluent. However also remember that they may not want to correct you, as it is time consuming to resend everything back to you. The best way to keep your friends happy, is to keep reading your text books and doing the exercises in them. You will continue to improve. You can also throw in a few sample paragraphs here for people to look at, over time, to see how you are progressing.
@noble drift, Sorry, I'm not a formal teacher
but feel free to ask questions here. I'm sure you will get help each time
It's not a problem for me. It's not easy to find a formal teacher, so I prefer native or fluent partners.
TIP: ... "do them, when I'm chatting with other" --> do them when chatting with others.
Alright, Thanks For letting me know!
Can you recommend me a totally free Android apps with English articles from A1 to C2 level?
what is the difference between "as far as I understand" and "insofar as I understand"?
I do not know such apps, but you may start by trying the BBC site for learners of English:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/learningenglish/
There is no need to go step by step from A1 to C2. A1 texts are rather boring. Consider any interesting story in your native language presented in an extremely simplified way for the beginners, and you will see how this story will become dull.
Both variants have the same meaning, though some people may point out some very fine nuances, so fine that most people do not notice them. However, if you use "insofar as I understand", people may think that you try to sound exotic.
I need read a texts for remember grammar structures, because I think, that It's a good way.
Indeed, reading improves your understanding of grammar structures and expands your vocabulary. For that, you need to read a lot. But you will not be able to read a lot of boring texts. Look for texts that may be interesting for you, even if they are not adapted for learners. Do not worry if you do not understand something. Try to guess and keep reading.
Still better if you find a book (a long novel 200 to 400 pages), which may be interesting for you - a love story, a spy story, a cops-and-gangsters story, a science fiction story, etc. It is easier to read one long story than many short stories. If you start reading and see that this story is not interesting, drop it and start another story. An interesting (for you) story will keep you involved in reading, and when you make breaks, it is easier to return to a long story than a short one.
Switch off your mobile, join a library, and borrow some classic novels and short stories, such as those by George Orwell, James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, etc. Then find a comfortable chair and read, read, and keep reading. Your vocabulary will improve, your writing skills will improve, and your conversational skills will improve. Start today!
English Question. Is the following sentence correct?
Sentence: Why are you trying to fight me for my contribution?
Context: A group of students are working on a project. But one of them is being ostracized and the other group members are trying to make it look like he hasn't contributed anything. So the bullied student asked them why they are trying to take away his contribution to the project.
The first word that came to my mind was "undermine", so the version I would use is:
Why are you trying to undermine me?
Definition 1 (verb): hollow out as if making a cave or opening
Definition 2 (verb): destroy property or hinder normal operations
Ehhh this definition is not accurate. You can check Cambridge or Oxford
But the version you use is perfectly fine to get the meaning across. There just might be a more accurate way to say it
thanks for your feedback! 🙂
blud sent a cia document
You could also say “Why are you trying to steal credit for my contributions?”
Is "Engaging in convivial ambience" a good alternative to saying "vibing"?
I mean, in a comically formal sort of way, yes.
What would be another appropriate way to communicate this idea in an academic setting?
What do you mean by "vibing" where you need to use it in an academic setting?
like is there a sentence you want to use this in or are you just wondering about it for funsies
Getting along well…hitting it off…enjoying each other’s company…
The latter. Vibing is a slang, so in the event of requiring its meaning in an academic setting one would not be able to use it.
The thing about it is that you likely won't write any academic articles where you have to talk about this action
unless you go into some sort of social science, in which case you can probably use one of what iotter said to get across that idea of "two people need to like each other"
It would be needed if an article is a recount.
? explain what you mean by recount
A description of what and how something happened.
oh, like a narrative
If you're narrating a story with two people in it and you need to say they were sitting together and getting along well, iotter's words sound pretty good
I was just wondering about a specific use case because the word "vibe" tends to get used for a lot of stuff (not just getting along with a person)
What if you want to replace the word vibe with a different one in these sentences: "You did not pass the vibe check" , "I do not feel a good vibe here", "This song is a vibe"?
again, because of the way academic writing works, you likely won't even approach this kind of situation the same way you would when speaking casually
The truth is I just want to avoid using slangs when speaking, even if it gets me weird looks.
theeere we go lol
some good, neutral ways of rephrasing those three sentences if you don't like "vibe" are things like "You didn't seem right to me", "I don't trust this at all", "This song is great/super catchy"
But there's no need to avoid using slang entirely (whatever you might think of as slang) because not every word has the same connotation; even "catchy" might fall under the umbrella of slang because it's informal, but it's established enough that people from all over the place use it and don't see anything wrong
Though for catchy one could use "Instantly captivating" in its place.
one could if one wanted to sound so formal it's comical in context, like iotter said
just like using a casual register in a formal place sounds unnecessarily weird, using a formal register in a casual place sounds unnecessarily weird
I don't mind that. In fact I don't mind regressing to Shakespearean times and sounding like the King James bible.
can I ask if you have any particular reason you feel that way, just since I'm curious?
I believe word choices can affect how an individual is perceived; I do not agree with the mindset held by a great number of people from my generation, so I do not want to be lumped in with them by folks due to speaking in the same way they do.
that's at the heart of a lot of sociolinguistic differences, the way you speak mirrors the way you see yourself or want to be seen by others
Even with that though, there are different types of norms depending on what situation you're in, and that's what I meant by registers
people from one generation aren't monolithic in how they speak all the time, and the way you're thinking about is probably a reflection of a situation that they're very comfortable in but you aren't, which is fine
just wanted to make sure you realize there's probably a lot of vocabulary you still share with them that doesn't feel so uncomfortable, like the quotes I made up above that still aren't "shakespearean" language lol
Regressing to Shakespearean times is an exaggeration, but incorporating at least some formal words and sentence structures into my speech is really what I want.
I still want to be understood though.
Heigh, my hearts! Cheerly, cheerly, my
hearts! Yare, yare! Take in the topsail. Tend to th’
Master’s whistle.—Blow till thou burst thy wind, if
room enough!
Bifil that in that seson on a day,

//Employee goes to his daily McDonald's job and speaks to his co-workers in Shakespearean English.
I get that you are not interested in using slang, but if you use such erudite and in some cases archaic words it may not lead just to someone not understanding you but to them thinking you are trying to come off as more intelligent (or better) than they are. I love big fancy words, but most people do not appreciate when they are used in informal conversation. Add onto that the possibility of an accent and people will just throw up their hands and walk away from you rather than trying to figure out what you are saying. Please remember the primary purpose of language is communication.
hi everyone! can someone help me find a word? i'm looking for a word to express being scared with the suffix -ness since i can't find one
frightenedness
thanks so much!!
Is this clear? "College students face many challenges, including adjusting to independence and freedom."
I am currently practicing clarity.
The word "challenges" is a noun. Therefore, it is better to use "adjustment" instead of "adjusting". And it is not completely clear what "adjustment to independence and freedom" is. Perhaps, they learn to get control over their own lives rather than rely on their parents, but this does not follow from your formulation.
Trust me, if you knew what I really (am), you wouldn't want me to stay around.
Should the sentence be “Trust me, if you knew what I really (were), you wouldn’t want me to stay around.” ?
I thought second conditional required to change the tense from present to past.
…..
Oh. this is a tough one
well, I guess it's got to be (am) in my opinion since,
- Ravin (the character) is Canonically still a demon, it's not like she magically turned into a human with powers. If she were talking about past mistakes, it would have applied the rules which you just mentioned.
I posted on other English discussion group too, let’s see how they will answer this one.
sorry if I have given you any spoilers for the show
No worries, I am a comic book reader and I am familiar with their lores. I just don’t know why the rule of second conditional doesn’t apply on that part of the sentence.
It just bugs me
Oh lord I wished I was a fluent speaker
If it were talking about past events, Like Kratos from the God Of War game, Only then will the conditions apply
Practise makes perfect!
@forest solar could you take a look at this?
It's not possible cause immagine the phrase splitted in multiple tenses
If you knew (conditional in past)
What I really am (present simple)
The present simple part that it should be true and it is what the conditional is refering to
Are you saying the original sentence has some mistakes? I am sorry for being a troublesome learner. Can you explain more?
@amber junco @runic trench these are the explanations from other English group. Once again thanks for cleaning up my mind
Explanation from A : The "what I really am" part is not a part of the conditional. Grammatically, it is an object clause of the conditional sentence "If I knew...(What?). From the classical grammar standpoint, the rule of sequence of tenses applies here, which requires "was" (with the exception explained by Stanislaw). I don't think you should be splitting hairs though as no-one seems to be caring this about sequence of tenses.
Explanation from B: if you keep 'am', you refer to a general state that is still true now. If you go with 'was', you refer to the past (something that is not true now). In this case 'am / was' has nothing to do with 'conditionals'.
Grammar Question. Can a technique be said to consist of many moves? For example, can I say, "My Body Breaking Technique consists of 5 moves - Breaking Fist, Breaking Palm, Breaking Elbow, Breaking Sweep and Breaking Jab." Or must I use "techniques" instead of "technique"?
This is the second conditional in your sentence:
Trust me, if you knew [this], you wouldn't want me to stay around.
And this is about the present or future time.
...if you knew what? - what I really am ... - this is also about the present time.
No contradiction, no agreement of the tenses (the same time - present), no violation of the second conditional.
The use of 'were' is the 'subjunctive mood' should you wish to read more on this.
The use of were is applied if the conditional is not real, or can never happen.
If i were you, i would go home. (I am not you therefore 'were' is used).
In this story although it's a story and fiction, the character actually is (whatever) in the story so the use of 'am' should be used.
@runic trench
A technique is usually not just a set of moves or steps, it is usually the exact sequence of those moves. And, in writing, numbers between 1 and 9 are usually written as words rather than digits, unless you have many such numbers in your text.
My... Technique is a sequence of five moves...
My... Technique consists of a sequence of five moves...
thanks for the feedback!
If " Breaking Fist, Breaking Palm", etc. are not just simple moves, but individual techniques that can be applied separately in any combination, or just one of them, then:
"My Body Breaking Techniques are: Breaking Fist, Breaking Palm, Breaking Elbow, Breaking Sweep and Breaking Jab."
Instead of "are" you may use "include", if you want to hint that this is not a complete list of your techniques.
Dang bro, nice way to practice english, do u only watch teen titans go?
This is clear to me as I read it, the second half of the sentence could be clarified with a little more detail such as “adjusting to independently managing their own time and freedom from the structure imposed by their parents.”
Can anyone tell me how should I improve my English
I have read the grammer but can't able to memorize them and not able to use them .
Pls I need some advice for this
try playing vid games in eng, turn ur phone fully in english, watch cartoons in english and always take notes. When you watch also try to voice some actors for improving ur pronunciation.
You will not be able to remember or even understand grammar rules until you have some models in your head, to which you can apply the grammar rules you are trying to learn. So, before you learn grammar, develop a set of models of different kinds of sentences (affirmative, negative, questions).
One of the ways to do this: Choose several texts and audios - at least 50 pages of texts and at least a couple of hours of audios. Prefer audios with transcriptions. Read texts aloud. Listen to the audios and try to repeat. or just listen and read the transcription. Do this for two or three hours every day (no "weekends") with the same texts and audios, for about two months. Do not hurry, work with each text or audio for two or three days, until the text starts popping up in front of your eyes when you shut the book and the audio starts sounding in your head when you switch off your player.
Still better, try to find an audio course for beginners. and do the same with this course.
This will give you a set of model sentences, to which you will be able to apply grammar rules and see how they work.
my version is better
I don't play games but watch everything in English I guess it's not goona work that much but I will do it this time harder
Will give it a shot
Thanks Peo!

Do you guys prefer to call it duvets or blankets, or are there any other alternatives?
Hello! I'm a native English speaker from the Midwest US, and we usually call them blankets or comforters
So the overall category is blankets, some blankets are comforters or duvets. A duvet usually has a cover on it. A comforter is similar to a duvet but does not have a removable cover. These are used on a bed or other sleeping surface to keep a person warm. There are other kinds of blankets also, thermal blankets, lap blankets, throw blankets, etc…that have specific uses.
Had a dispute with my friends just a second ago about this:
What is the best definition you'd attribute to "performance edge"?
Practice and maybe some passion with the language
same applies for every language in the world
But accurate
If I was to just hear that term(which is what i just have) i would say that the edge is the little bit more that one thing has over all others, when it comes to performance.
@supple holly Sorry guys, this might have been rude. I recalled that I should add "...or I will buy a new washing mashine designed for your head to make you stuck"
Please I want a teacher can help me when I have exams
I am a native Arabic speaker
And i need a teacher to teach me English please
Mary
It's an old American Western name. Probably cause he was born at sunshine.
Or is some gen 00 trend
We call the single layer knitted items .. blankets, and the stuffed covers .. doonas.
Duvet is definitely what UK people refers to for a heavy cover for the bed
Blanket is a thinner cover, most likely used in less cold periods

As a Metaphor perhaps? Or maybe they are married? That to like the short nickname "Honey" and in Hindi we say "Listen" in hindi AKA "Suno".

How to pluralize different types of pokémon? For example, would jolteon just be jolteon in its plural form or would it be jolteons? pikachu/pikachus ??
Please share for me totally free source of English texts to reading on A1-C2 level.
It could be used as others have said a term of endearment like “honey” or “sweetie” but it could also be used in a derogatory or ironic way the tone of delivery is important.
I think this is a pretty good description. Startle has a more immediate connotation to it, like a jump scare startles you. While you could be scared for a more sustained period of time. Even after the movie was over I still felt scared and had to turn on all the lights in the house.
Yes I think you can just add “s” squirtles, pikachus, jolteons, etc

If we rig that path with traps
If we set that path with traps

We can set traps on a path or we can rig a path with traps. We can also use the „up“ preposition with „set“ in this context, such as when we say we're setting something up. I'm not sure your second example is something we'd really say.
I'm setting down some traps on this path.
I've set so many traps up on that road.
The room is rigged with traps.
The entire path is rigged with traps.
Just some examples.
?def rig

It depends on the context, as with many things in language. It's not inherently offensive, but context matters. It's usually just a harmless expression.
It's a weird expression, now that I can think about it.

Argueable
Broadly speaking, animals also have bones.
The use of the „broadly“ adverb here indicates that the following clause (the statement) is generally true.
The paint was midnight black and the canvas clear. I broadly painted several strokes until an image formed before me.
I'm no painter, but in this case, I don't think we'd usually use „broadly“ as an averb, but would say for example that we painted „broad strokes“.
I think „broadly“ is primarily used when speaking about something generally, such as the first example. It's generally true that animals have bones, but some don't.
"During" is used when you want to tell someone what had happened or what to do during a period of time
for Example:
"During class, Jessica asked me for my notebook"
"**During ** the 1800s, My great- great Grandfather Used to be an emperor"
Thank you so much
As an addition to what has been said above, I can give you a little quote, might end up being a bit difficult for you, but i think it may give you a nice example:
"In New England the only counterpart to the mysterious emptying of Jerusalem’s Lot, or ’salem’s Lot as the natives often refer to it, seems to be a small town in Vermont called Momson. During the summer of 1923, Momson apparently just dried up and blew away, and all 312 residents went with it. The houses and few small business buildings in the town’s center still stand, but since that summer fifty-two years ago, they have been uninhabited."
from "Salem's Lot" by Stephen King
so, during that summer, all residents disappeared
during that summer, so while that summer was passing, they disappeared

Hi, I've been writing a file for a project I started on my own, I'd like to know if the english I used is good, I'll send it here
The protocol aims at creating a cozy and admirable workspace on a computer by offering a path to both optimal general organization and management.
The idea is to demonstrate that a good work environment usually consists in significantly better results.
DOCUMENT GOALS
The document contains the full description, step by step, of the protocol realized by Drip.
The document functions as a guide and it can be used by anyone.
PRECONDITION
Before starting the protocol’s procedures, it is necessary to verify the following pre-requirements:
This protocol only works for computers that have Windows 10 or 11 as their operative system, so it is necessary for the computer to follow this requirement.
Whoever decides to apply the protocol to a computer, it is important for them to be the owner of the computer they are operating on, in order to avoid uncomfortable situations and guarantee more effective results.
A stable internet connection is necessary.
The desktop’s trash bin must be empty, so it is necessary to empty it in order to avoid filling it or slowing down the erasing process.
If all of these fields are respected, you may start with the protocol.
PROTOCOL STEPS
DIRECTORIES CLEANSING
The first step consists in going through every directory of every available hard drive to get rid of outdated, useless and forgotten files you might not want to keep anymore and to move the ones you care about where you want to conserve them.
Before you start, create a folder you can easily access at all times so you can copy the files you want to keep in there the moment you find them, you’re gonna need this folder the time you want to relocate every single file you found.
Creating the folder on your desktop surely makes it very easy to access and keep track of, but it unfortunately exposes it to higher risks of accidentally erasing it, so it is recommended to create the folder in any other directory and then create a desktop shortcut in order to avoid any risk
"This idea is to demonstrate that a good work friendly environment would usually consist in significantly better results"
And you could write the PRECONDITIONS in a bulletpoint structure
-like this
-and this
- and this

what deos "ironically" and "unironically" mean
As In, the meaning of Ironic iss (the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect.) So like someones name could be Mr. Mean and they are ABSOLUTELY nice.
It's like saying something thats the opposite.
E.g :
- Team Rockets hide out is Unironically on a rocket!
- My mom, Mary is ironically single!
- My friend , Alan , from Canada is unironically always sweating!
Since + a specific point in time. Because it's a specific point, you can't use continuous tenses. Usually you only use simple past
Note: "Since" has two definitions. The above only works for the definition "from (a point in time)"
how to use perhaps, probably, maybe
(Lovingly) watch, behold, admire? It's probably one of these words plus the adverb. I can't think one word that means "look at someone lovingly", but the verbs I suggested have varying levels of how much focus you're using to look at this person. You can think of more focus = more love you have for this person
Depends on the sentence/words you use. Both of the examples you give have little difference.
You'd be better off learning about the differences between simple present and present continuous
why do people say "I better go and I'd better go
Can somebody explain me this
Why did he say "There's" but not There are" ??
whats the context?
miles texting sms
"I better go" is used in an informal context
Example: "It's getting late; I better go."
Whereas "I'd better go" is used in a formal context
Where, "I'd" is a contraction of "I would" or " I had"
Example ("had"): "I'd better go before I miss the train."
Example ( "would"): "I'd better go if I want to get there on time."
Can you elaborate?

My dear friend, Words can differ in different contexts.
They could be sarcastic or metaphorical sometimes.
Buddy, I just advised you, Be respectful.
my bad
I believe that following sentence is sarcastic or metaphorical, it can have different meanings.
This doesn't consist a literal meaning
The phrase "there's bubbles now, hold on" seems to suggest that something unexpected or interesting is happening, and the speaker is asking the listener to wait or pause for a moment to witness or experience it.
stupid english, it's supposed to be there are bubles not there is
how could native say that
No, In this context "There's bubbles now" should be used.
it's not a literal meaning as I said.
there you go
sorry man for my behavior
yeah it's not a literal meaning
It is alright man
People can get angry sometimes
the speaker is likely using "there's" in a general sense to refer to the presence of something interesting or noteworthy, Since this doesn't literally mean bubbles, this can be used in spoken language.
@sacred frigate
When else do we say There's?
For example There's a lot of students here?
Correction, Use "where else" in that sentence.
Right
We can use that sentence aswell.
?def marinating
No definitions listed.
i think you meant marination
Definition (verb): soak in marinade
yeah
so basically he used a metaphorical context here aswell
words aren't always literal
He asked "How's your essay?"
Other person said it was "Marinating" which means that they are allowing ideas, thoughts, or information to soak in and develop over time.
hope it's clear
ok got it thx
Tip: Don't always take words in their literal meanings @sacred frigate
alright
alright
what this mean?
It means that, we aren't talking anymore or aren't friends anymore
It could differ in different contexts, I believe it means the above in that context, im not sure about the context in that scene tho
It could also mean their phone conversation stopped for some reason i believe ?
Yeah probably, Since we aren't aware of the context
