I do know the basics, I'm slowly reading the cathecism and will read other books about faith and traditions. Brazil used to be a catholic country, now most people here are protestants

We would have a continet called Afro-Eurasia if we only considered geography

dapper laurel

Is there a geopolitical conflict in South America ?

#

I think American influences just dominated that region

dapper laurel

thorny steeple
# dapper laurel I thought Brazil was a Catholic majority country, what happened?

It's a complex subject.

Basically, nowadays the census in Brazil (which I worked on) registers a Catholic majority, but most people who declare themselves catholic don't really follow the religion, they just declare themselves as catholics. If you look up the data, you'll see how many catholics we (seem) to have.

The protestant church has grown a lot in popularity here. Is you look up the data, again, around 25% of Brazil declare themselves as that. But the question is: those 25% are made up by people who really FOLLOW their religion.

So if you see who really follows it, protestants are a majority.

Prostentants have many important charges in Brazilian politics and they own too much in the financial sector. Brazilians are also too 'emotional' and they don't really follow only one tradition. So, if you put all these factors together (and remember, the Catholic church is shrinking in power and popularity all around the globe), you'll know why that happens

A few years ago, I've watch a survival series in which there was a mixed groupe of men and women. But after a guy made a kinda sexist remark, the groupe splitted. And while the guys struggle to make a fire and hunt, the women managed the hunt at least an eel and make fire. But these days, the only contents on YouTube shows how a bunch of weak women ain't even able to survive. Now people assume women in general can't survive a week in nature. Are they triggered by feminists these days?

I know a lot of Aztecs, human sacrifices were not what you think. A rare event. In the past it was also common among Christians to make sacrifices or kill heretics. In that historical phase almost all religions had violent implications for one reason or another.

# thorny steeple https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.360.6395.1288

Ancient Israel and Ur probably had a similar number of sacrifices, but it is much more difficult to find artifacts due to the millennia that have passed, compared to the few centuries of Central American civilizations.
History is not a science and nor we have the instruments to actually conclude that those finding are exacts, anyway I don't think that u reading an article is enough. To understand an entire culture you usually need years of study and experience in the field

#

Try to not judge in this manner, it's childish. Critiques are better but only with context.

thorny steeple
thorny steeple
manic juniper
thorny steeple
#

The history of human groups is interconnected with a multitude of things. For example, without knowing the geography of Central America from 13,000 BC to about 1600, it is unclear why some societies organized themselves that way. There is a risk of calling these civilizations barbaric, forgetting that many of the actions that are criticized are justifiable in that context.

Besides Lithuania was pretty united despite the huge diversity in faiths, even Christians

#

Bulgaria too was united despite having rulers of different faiths

Kyivan Rus'

Rome broke apart more than ever not long after they made Christianity into the state religion

thorny steeple
#

Some historians argue that much of the success of Eurasian civilizations was simply due to geological reasons

I guess it was, North Africa was very advanced and almost on par with southern Europe due to geography as well

#

I don't attribute Europe's success to Christianity, there many stronger reasons that come along with that

feral river
manic juniper
#

Even before it was more like the Japanese junta had control of the religion and used it as a tool rather than a religious caste having any control

thorny steeple

Corn was actually domesticated by Europeans, the civilizations of Central America had a very rudimentary agriculture, because it is complex to domesticate corn compared to wheat.

left badger

It didn't. It was just translated but you can still get the big picture when reading it. If the original says Lazarus was resurrected on the 4 th day, in the other version it will say the same but in another language. If in the original it says Jesus was a carpenter, the other version will say the same. Everything is true if you ask God to open your heart. It took me years to do that but never too late.

I like to think of technology as a natural phenomenon, information tries to persist just like life. It evolves and adapts, it finds the way to exist in people's minds for millennia and also in other types of artifacts, books, computers, robots and what else awaits us in the future.

feral river
thorny steeple
#

With the inventions of writing we become way more efficient than before at maintaining information from the past.

left badger

No one is dehumanising anyone. We are all sinners. Christians are not supposed to do that even to non believers. A sin commuted by a believer and non believer are the same.

thorny steeple
#

Honestly, I'd actually say too much. We have loads of problems with immigration, loads of asylum seekers and they get everything, while our people get nothing. They treat them better than their own citizens.

#

They are even trying to replace Ukrainians with Africans, I thought that was a joke until I saw what's actually happening.

#

Exactly.

#

The Irish people are slowly becoming second class citizens. Well, some of us.

#

The problem is that instead of keeping those who work, they simply move them out to small villages and replace them with asylum seekers.

#

Most of them are illegal immigrants, they are coming to our country not seeking for a safe place to live in, they come here to live for free.

#

Provided with everything, free healthcare, free food, free house

#

I've been to Egypt, beautiful beaches, but the country is extremely poor.

If you anty you talk how aggressive they attack how Mani civilians are hurting, if enemy defending you talk how they cowardly running away. No lie but pure propaganda.

Speaking of conflicts, at the end of the day, human beings are predators no matter how much they claim to be evolved from their ancestors. And our beliefs are often ignorantly based only on one side of the story. The so-called reality of oneself is nothing but a reflection of the environment they've grown up and the experience they've gained throughout their lifespan. Hence, there's no true bad or good, it's all subjective.

The comprehention of the term "fluency" is kinda weird, because fluency means that you can speak naturally without any problems. But the true is that fluency itself doesn't exist because there will always be a topic in English (or in any language) that you're not fluent of

rancid elbow
onyx hazel
#

but don't get me wrong, that's not complaining, it's just a reflection

rancid elbow
#

Let's say vehicles. If the individual can name and effortlessly use basic parts of a car like wheels, seats, trunks, engines, headlights, etc. in a sentence, then I would definitely think of them as fluent

#

Sure those who have never owned or driven one may not know the right words, but they could still come up with the closest substitution

#

To be frank with you, I don't consider myself fluent in the language yet. There are so many things I haven't just spoken about but haven't even thought of using English. That being said, I'm glad to inform you that it's a work in progress. A year or two and this is gonna be checked as complete

thorny steeple
#

I do not consider myself fluent in English because I lack a bit of basic things in the language such as talking about animals (I only know the basic like the name of their limbs and stuff) but come across something new about them everyday. Also, sometimes I lack some verbs to express myself as well as object names which I think I would have to properly know until start claiming to be fluent

Opposing immigration is useless as loads of talented and hard working people come to our country. On the other hand, I don't think immigration is good in some cases. We need legal migrants, who come to our country to work and live, not those who are going to do nothing, getting their social welfare.

We study the American-European political system in our school

#

And we have our Wikipedia

thorny steeple
#

We don't need open borders, Sinn Fein is all about supporting migrants, doesn't matter legal or not, and that is sad, because I'd vote them as they want to get rid of housing crisis in our country, but they have to support legals, not those who come to get social payments and live for free.

#

And legals mostly don't get any support.
