We can agree on the fact that we are not the only very violent country in the world. But I disagree when you say that social problems is the main factor regarding that. It is not, our law doesn't act when it has do to do so. Indonesia is poor, look at its crime rates. Poverty plays a big role, but the number would be much lower if we hadn't had such a disfunctional law system.

My problem with taxes is that we get nothing back from it. Our educational system, as I said, is terrible. 1/3 of the Brazilian population can't read properly, they are functional analphabets. A person who finishes high school should not be on this level. Let alone our uni students, a huge amount of them fit the functional analphabet definition, as INAF says. We've all the resources to form good scientists, but all we do is investing on professionals that give us nothing back - we could have been using taxes to develop big brains, but our system is a failure.

I also want to mention the amount of natural resources we have. We're the country with most fresh water, grains, coffee, cattle meat and so on... our ceiling is too high. We shouldn't limitate ourselves to comparing with other countries . We could be so much better

1. There are many countries that the law acts when it has to do, and they're still violent countries, one example of it: USA. Indonesia has a very good educational system, maybe that's the reason.
2. Our educational system is terrible because Brazil has always been a country which prioritizes higher education, leaving elementary and high school education as less important, and also creates a significant polarization between public and private education. The private sector ends up performing better, not to mention that this prioritization of higher education is profitable.

Regard the taxes, This brings what I said before: Brazil adopts a system that almost everything is about profit, so politicians won't care of being corrupts or something else. There are countries who pay less taxes, and the're way more corrupt than us, I would say the majority of Latin America countries are like that.

Ethics is even worse, since it's normative. Ethics change depending on the standards of which person you ask. Some are racist, some are not - but they have standards. Therefore you can prove that something is unethical where it's before assumed to be not.

For me, A then B then C. For others, A then B then D. Contradictions isn't limited to ethics; quantum mechanics contradict general relativity, but physics is still science!
