Most people online (English teachers, polyglots, self-taught people) say that to improve your vocabulary you need to consume inputs (watch videos, series, docs, listen to podcasts, listen to podcasts, read books, etc.) and write down the new vocabulary (words, idioms, phrases) and write their meanings, use them in sentences, etc.

But I can't decide whether I should write them down in a physical notebook or in a digital notebook (such as Notion). Let's say I am outside and listen to podcasts, should I note them down my smartphone? How can I write them fast? It looks like I have to spare 1 1.5 hours for this.

digital, not notion, look up what spaced repetition systems are

i use "Anki" for more than two years now, ive gathered 5000+ notes there and it automatically gives me them without me revising endlessly

spaced repetition systems are algorithms which allow users to distribute material over periods of time, "SRS" is the acronym for them, Anki app is a great example of that

i have practically ~5000 notes, a lot of new ones i havent studied yet too, how do you think id revise that? 5 hours daily? no, ive got this done automatically, i spend around 20min up to 1hour daily on this

of course i will forget some eventually, but notice that this is perfectly normal, the only purpose of something like this is to make me aware of new words, and later if i see them in a book or podcasts i listen to, i will sooner or later be like "oh, i saw that thing, it means like..."

Anki by default is empty, it has many features, but by default it has no notes about anything. You can add your own ones, as many as you want, you can use text, audio, images, to your notes, without any limits. So, you either create your notes here yourself, thats what I do since i always note down stuff here myself, or use community-created ones (there is a lot of them too) which are all free
