Hello 😄
Some really serious (but not unfamiliar!) stuff going on in my absence.
true
hello serious english speakers
Hello
I am serious
Seriously in need of beesechurgers
My initial claim was 'I disagree with you, I don't believe that we are mere animals of instinct' being my main argument that we posses abstract thinking as our differential factor, let us provide a definition of 'Abstract thinking' so you folks don't have to worry about this 'The ability to calculate, sort, categorize, conceptualize, draw conclusions, or interpret and condense complex ideas' now as I know you guys really like to clarify the meaning of words lets define ideas 'a thought, conception, or notion' can monkeys do this? can cats and dogs do this? Does this come from mere instinct. I'm not denying that we have basic needs it would be foolish to do so, but our sole behavior can not be attributed to instinct, the sole fact that we are communicating our thoughts disproves that, or would you say that this is also just a simple response to an stimulus, I don't think so. The point being made is not whether we share or not behaviors with other animals, but rather to disprove that we are not solely instinct driven.
thats crazy
Btw I applaud your response this is how an actual conversation works, not just by happily spanning clarifications requests. Or pointing that the other person is an ignorant because of X or Y reasons.
How about them deezburgers?
! ! may contain nuts ! !
Hey me too Hector how are you ?
Today I watch Mario movie, so good
Good choice, I haven't seen the Mario movie but I like Mario overall
Mario games 👍
Yeah of course
Hey, I’m tutoring a 10 year old in English, any tips?
Good buddy, where are you from?
Sorry what's that means nvm?
never mind
Happy birthday
Hello
welp
Sure, thanks a lot
Hi
Can somebody help me to get ready for my toefl?
Or to practice with listening and reading comprehension?
Google can, I'm sure of it.
Hi
Hello
Hello..
Whence may you be?
Are you serious?
"Why so serious"
“Have you ever been serious?”
Hi everyone
Hi, how r u doing?
Go to beach.
what?
I'm going to beach.
Hi everyone,
hi
Not serious enough
I'm from France and you ?
I can help you
Exactly. These new fellows.
salut
come tallez vous?
did i write it donw correct ?
hey guys im new in this chat
whats the topic here?
whats ir used for?
Idk either
😂
Good morning
Hey that's great perhaps you wrote ur sentence as if u were speaking orally, the correct sentence is "comment allez vous ?". When speaking, we make the connection between the word "comment" which means "how" and the word "allez" and we pronounce the "t".
Would you please delete this gif.
well thats not very serious
What’s that? Would you be more specific?
Thank you cheese god
Why wouldn’t someone be happy? Do you think serious people aren’t happy?
@ornate siren I caught Diana being extremely serious in
alooo
To my horror, the serious chat is gradually becoming a place of casual introductions and everyday topics.
newbie
Like this one.
Nope what?
Can't notice it
You don’t think it’s serious.
I can't notice the message.
Oh yes, now I've found it.
@lavish finch sir, i am new at learning English. my question is which grammar rules should i learn first. you can reply me by just saying what kind of grammar rules do i need for basics.
The rhotic basis of French phonology.
Are you sure you’re new? You don’t seem new.
For a new student I suggest beginning with basic or elementary grammar.
Not just one rule.
use a textbook
You mean English learning text book
I mean a textbook that teaches grammar
Where are you from?
Such as grammar in use by Cambridge
I know. But i wanted to what should i read first
There are so many that's why i asked you
@oak gate
South Asian
Country?
I think you didn't get my question
I suppose you're Indian?
Yha you can say
I wanted to know what should I read first on that text book. Like sentences , tenses, parts of speech
Ah, good. Then I wager J.C Nesfield's Grammar would be just fine for you.
Thanks. I will find it if I could
No
Stop it
It's specifically suited to Indian students.
That's a bit rude. I believe I also have the right to advise.
And the book is by no means mediocre.
I am leaving
In fact, it rises to pretty rarefied levels at many places.
It's enough to make anyone fairly proficient in English grammar.
Farewell
I am also leaving for some appointments.
I fare you well too
Thank you.

I'm abdalrahman from Egypt
Your name strikes me as that of the Umayyad governor of Spain, Abd-al Rahman I, who led the Moslem invasion of Francia and suffered his most horrible defeat under Duke Eudo of Aquitaine and Charles Martel, Mayor Of Paris, at Tours-Poitiers in the year 732.
By Ludwig Van Beethoven
“To play a wrong note is insignificant; to play without passion is inexcusable.”- Ludwig van Beethoven
Organ sound in all its beauty
Magnificent
What's crazy is that I was there, listening to it a mere 15 minutes ago.
The most famous piece of Beethoven after Fur Elise.
And perhaps, the Moonlight Sonata.
Coincidence..
Cant help admiring their ability of putting all those feelings and moods into sound
We should strive to be like them, even in this banally materialistic and mechanical world.
Materialistic and mechanical.
I guess my world is more than that. Thoughts, imagination, feelings.. for me they are beyond what we call materialistic and mechanical, no matter how science would relate them to the work of brain and physical processes.
That's beautiful. I'm with you.
Especially being from a place that is complete bullshit.
We can try to create our own tiny world
I have done so, and as have you.
Bye-bye
Hi everyone
Shut the hell up, insolent fool. Do not desecrate this channel. And you too, @coral sedge.
Would you shut up? Don't make me say what I don't want to.
Ignore
Whatever you say, alright.
That's a great note. I mean quote. (freudian slip).
I don't know what was said that you want to shut out, and you don't have to tell me.
Freudian slip - an unintentional error regarded as revealing subconscious feelings.
Nice
Instead of attacking the person, we could work to describe the kind of channel we want. We can talk about what it means to be serious.
Would you like to tell Mr. Green, please @full river?
Some disturbing messages
Nargiz has some good experience ignoring disturbing messages.

That's true
I saved screenshots, if you're interested
They are already banned so
I prefer if you focus on my reply.
Here
Since this channel is the focus, not the messaging we don't want.
And tell me now, if I didn't do well? Though you may advise me on not attacking people directly.
The profit sustained here, was the deletion of the messages. The slight cost was that of a little misunderstanding.
Staying focused on goals comes with high profit.
I like to see people sharing ideas on variety of topics, having debates without offending one another, without using profanity, even when disagreeing, preferably making it in a way that wouldn't be an attack towards the opposing side. Also like to see people making jokes, friendly ones.
I like to see people connecting, creating good relationships, enjoying conversations.
Can't always be perfect, but these are things we could try for.
Good point
There is another thing that I also like and find entertaining
Especially in serious chat, which is sarcasm. But..
It is in the red row of Savi grid and considered as an attack
Although I think sarcasm can add spice to the conversation, it can also hurt and create tension.
Agreed.
Great start. (I'm leaving again, for class)
I think it would make sense to try to know the audience before using it.
leaving too 👋
There's nothing in your views to object to.
Goodbye, everyone
No, I don’t mean it but you really took every word of me seriously.
Anyone here may suggest any interesting topic to discuss?
I'll go to sleep now.
It's past midnight here.
Have a good night
Thanks
Okey I came up with one, do you think that having the passion in doing something is really important? In other words do you believe in (follow your passion)
More details?
Why?
But I think you need to be more specific, I think in your case you mean the passion about someone
What about the things you're not good at but you wish to?
Wow that's a huge thing to say
Would you explain?
I remember one native calling me crazy and dumb when I used that word once
What if the thing you're good at doesn't make money to live? Let's say for example you know a very rare language
How did you use it?😂
i dont even remember this, but am sure it had to make sense, at least this is what my mind tells me
this tense change from "used" seemed pretty suspicious
but am glad it is not past, then
oh yeah
i got a bit confused, because ex just does not look good with present tense next to her
join the vc and try speaking with different people and ask them how your english is
It is what you said. Why wouldn’t I take you seriously?
ola querida
Oiii amorelindo ❤️ How are you?
I found a love I've never had beforeeeee ♫
When I fall asleeep I feeeeel yooou with meeeeeeeee ♫
😭
Emo songs like there's no tomorrrooowww ❤️

Thank you! ❤️ I am good! I'm listening to songs now! 😍
No, I slept very well, thank God! And you?
Thanks for correcting the mistake
I am a beginner in the English language
Oh, I got you
You don't believe in the idea of a flat Earth, do you?
yeaz I dont, there are so many flies here...oh my god, they're all drinking my blood 🪰😭😂
cool, enjoy dear
omggg, use something to keep them away! 💀
Mosquitoes are a nuisance
@thorny steeple

they're like vampires
They eat me alive
They are food for bats
like a natural manhunter
We have two kinds
So we have mosquitoes day and night
I'll name him Dracula or Nosferatu
🥹corona nooooooo
@vernal crypt Ue ue
We had a gekko in our old house
this plant is amazing
Helluuu
Bats are awesome
Thousands of species
I think only 1 or 2 are actually blood consumers
They live in South America, if I'm not mistaken
This is a baby bat a.k.a a gothic name for new goths too, LOL
Lol
like a winged rodent
flying mouse
When I was a teen
Goths were called mods
REALLY??
Very much so
So cool, let me see pictureeeess some day, if you want 😍
Oh.. um
I could sometime
I think o have something still
Anche grunge
For me, instead of goth there were emos
Emo is more like a 2000 thing.
Yeah
I think Nirvana and sound garden are my favourite of that period
But also
STP stone temple pilots
Yeah
Emo came later
So cool!
But like we'd go down to Tijuana to see punk and rockabilly bands that were banned in SoCal
Are you from California?
So coooool! 😍
I didn't move to Italy till after I met my husband
So cool! 🥰 California is a place I'd like to meet one day.
It's nice.
I mean... I don't like LA.. I only went there to visit friends or go clubbing (dancing) in west Hollywood
I loved that era
Ohhh! Cool! I guess I wouldn't live again in a big city tbh.
I was born in ‘98 so i grew up with those people
But to visit, I'd like to! lol Do you like more Italy than there?
Me too! A lot of my fav bands are emo, LOL! Unless Metallica.
Damn, I just love Blessthefall!!! My whole teen years was listening to themmm!!
Ahahah, apocalyptica?
Three Days Grace
It's difficult to choose.
I moved here because.. Italy 😍
But I miss camping and other sports and activities I did there.
@thorny steeple lurkerrr
@devout shale is from Italyy
So cool! I know there are a lot of amazing beautiful placess!
Oh, Italy sounds nice! I will visit my friend there hopefully.
😮
I used to listen to The Used, Stick to your Guns, City and Color, omggg
Stick to your guns I still listen, lol!
Yeah
I think he's south of where I am
"I've been to hell and back, searching for answersss that do not existtt" ♫
Aah, person of culture
I dont know what you are talking about
It's lovely here
Just avoid it in summer
Damnnn, I love thoseee! I remember going to work and listening to them!
Music and emo songs, LOL
@vernal crypt i thought you were born in Italy
No
My kids were tho
Where 😮
My husband too
I've been living here for 22 years now
It's a lifetime for some people
Yess, lol!
Nice
Well, i guess i am used to heat. Im Turkish
@thorny steeple is a goth
Musics and perfum has this effect on me.
A pink goth
Kind of, I'm not traditionally goth, tbh.
Why are you kind of goth?
.
I just like some of the bands and then I became kind of "organically"?! LOL
Music does that for me as well
It gets hot there in Turkey (I'm not spelling that right)😬
I liked a couple bands from then
Because it's not all the bands that I like and I also don't wear toooo heavy makeup all the time or very often.
@thorny steeple semi-goth
I'm more minimalistic, let's say...
Only in Thursdays
People usually called me "scifigoth" because the work I used to do with science fiction in my country, LOL
That's why I love cyberpunk, all of those stuff.
What work
Makes sense sometimes i wear like a hiphop guy but listen power metal lmao
I was ambassador of the bigger sci-fi publisher in my country.
It was in the past, lol! When blogs were a thing.
Seee! We're not stereotypes, LOL
Nowadays there is no rule to fashion and music.
I thing i have found me when i have webcam on
@thorny steeple what did you do exactly
Yas! And that's so cool!

hello serious members
This me with webcam on
I made book reviews, attended events, took pictures, promote books, conversations about some of the sci-fi writers and stories, those kind of stuff.
Not so serious tonight
Hey
So cool!
Hello

Hello
Mr Down-A-Pawn
Hey
Talked about music, games all of those stuffs but inside the sci-fi genre.
Did you ever read PKD

I heard that you like the bad girls, honey?! Is that trueee?? ♫
NO
Me
Yes
Only the bad girls
I will sing Evanescence for you all, LOL
Dat's difficult, so I deserve Vivek singing The Smiths and justanotherday singing Nirvana!
I will sing
Bohemian rhapsody in several harmonics at once

Oh my
James is kinda punk rock Lana
lovely

Idk this song
It's nice tho
not very Pg13 words tho
Moon
What kinda music do you like

TC James
🎶
Thank you for that
Thanks for the singingg!!
I can't sing
I'll wake my husband
same as angel, I can listen to all kinds of music from classical alternative rock, blues, jazz, opera😍 especially female vocals, Adele ,Amy Winehouse, Lana del rey, Taylor etc
Oh sweet!
@lavish finch drops the song and leaves like a chad
I'll no try to sing Amy Winehouse because I guess my voice doesn't suits her songs.
LOL
I've sung and played on stage
But not for a long time
I can send you some Turkish songs @thorny steeple
Sounds amazinggg
I guess I would die, LOL
Deal!
I only made three public concerts in my life and they're all traumatic, LOL
First when I danced in the school
Second in the church by obligation
I have died several times
But you just sing through the death till the song is over.
Then bury your face in the nearest shoulder and let out a sigh of relief that you didn't get kicked out😂😂
yes she's alto, deep female voice, your voice is thinner but I think you can sing her songs too
I like how you said I do three and tell about ✌
Awww
I think part of the fun are the stories to tell later

||# OK # ||
She killed it (do you say so?)
Hi, frog1, it's been a long time!
Hey! frog1! This is Eugene,!?
Oh please do. My favourite is Bring me to life 🙃
What
Pleased to meet you, How have you been?
@full river hey
Don't know but I killed the chat
I missed you so much, frog1!
Hey hey hello
I've missed the karaoke night 😄
Maybe you are busy, now I am leaving! See you later! Bye, Bye, frog1
sick
Ive seen someone say "you nailed it" is that somewhat similar
Who are you
Yeah
Very familiar
Definition of the slang term sick with an example.
Who was that Eugene
🤣
But I'll not sound good
Sureee
It was so traumatic that my notebook died
@devout shale fix my notebook 😭
@thorny steeple is lagging
I checked history and O remember that Eugene, I have short memory
What were you doing when it turned off?
I guess I'll leave off for some time
Hope it's not something serious
Me too
Or I will cry and this time for real
🤣
Damn I killed the chat with this
Where is everyone
No I killed it before
Do you have backups
No
But I don't have much files tbh, I use it only to edit stuffs and I leave some folders there. Other things are saved somewhere else.
You could remove the hard drive and plug it in another pc if it doesn't reboot
Ok
Let's hope 😐
Oi Angelline, your bootloader got deleted somehow
Install windows 10 on a usb stick and insert the usb stick in the pc and spam f10 or f3 if you don’t know, watch a YouTube tutorial how to install windows 10 with an usb stick

you don't even need to re install it
you just need to fix the bootloader
which can be done in a repair tool that comes when you boot the iso
sup
Great and you
I'm doing cool, reading a book

Great, what field do you like
I couldn't came up with anything tbh, would you please forgive my boldness, It would be a dishonor to insult you with my lack of lyrical skills
I've been studying computers my whole life, but I'm tired of it at this point, so I decided to spend my free time doing more interesting things, so at this moment I'm more into social sciences
mainly economics, but also philosophy and psychology, just to broad my knowledge I don't pretend to specialize in any of them
I wish you success
Thanks man
I have a BA in Finance and Accounting, and I also like political readings
That's very cool, I used to work in that field for some time, do you work for a firm/bank or something the like?
Not quite, but I have taken some practical work from contractors and some small businesses

I see mate, I hope you do well, do you plan to advance further in your studies?
Thanks
Of course, I am preparing for a master's degree in human resources, and I am also studying the field of communications. I will obtain a high technical certificate after 6 months.
Mamma mia, @vernal crypt I'd like to hear you sing Bohemian Rhapsody.
Cowards die many times before their deaths;
The valiant never taste of death but once.
Of all the wonders that I yet have heard,
It seems to me most strange that men should fear;
Seeing that death, a necessary end,
Will come when it will come.
You people have the best-est convos when I sleep.
That is, apart from the insomniacs like sister @thorny steeple
Just I bit! I watched this and wanted to share! 🥰
I am, if anything
Heyyy
How are you? Any topic for this chat?
I'm great, and how are you doing?
Not really, I like to indulge in conversations suggested by others, not me
Should you propose a topic, I'd gladly discuss it
I already proposed a few hours ago, but I guess everyone is busy right now. I am the insomniac one! 🤣
And I'm good! Thanks for asking! 🥰
Would you like to talk about the philosophy of left libertarianism?
Let's start with background info.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-libertarianism
Left-libertarianism, also known as left-wing libertarianism, or social libertarianism, is a political philosophy and type of libertarianism that stresses both individual freedom and social equality. Left-libertarianism represents several related yet distinct approaches to political and social theory. Its classical usage refers to anti-authoritar...
Fair enough:D So your topic was the dopamine detox - aka the understimulated society?
all the non native english speakers i have seen use better grammar & bigger words than native
it is insane
im fluent but its unnecessary to talk in formalities all the time
In this channel, you mean?
in general
It's hard to estimate fluency just by the big words one uses
I'd say fluency could be defined by the ideas expressed by the person
It all comes down to the understanding and adaptation of the language, I believe
Also if the person exuberates the EDGE method
E - Explain
D - Demonstrate
G - Guide
E - Enable
This is a tried and true method to know if the person is capable of teaching something, for example, a language like English
Fair enough
It came from Boy Scouts, and it is a guiding principle in teaching people practical hands-on skills.
Oh yea, and big words just mean you read the dictionary too much
Good writing cuts out fluff and expresses ideas coherently.
And they express complex ideas that are ahead of the curve.
If you're able to write a thesis paper about geopolitics (ahem which I did)
and you get an A, chances are, you're very fluent
tl;dr: The usage of words and jargon to express ideas and teach ppl is the ultimate measure of fluency in a language, or in a skill actually.
So none of that feynman technique and all that hustle culture trying to figure out how to do pomodoro technique
This isn't exactly accurate
The point is to make people appreciate education and incetivize passion for the humanities and the sciences or whatever
ok?
that is not the spirit of what i was saying
Go back to the main idea.
Specific topics require specific vocabulary and knowledge, writing an essay on something doesn't exactly prove you're fluent
Do you know what thesis papers are?
I do
It has reference pages and citations in either APA or MLA
I read through fourty pages that my professor put up and I was working on it the whole semester.
The sources I filtered through to even come up with something resembling something intelligent came out as a 6 page paper on Central and South American geopolitics.
Oh yea, and the professor was rated terribly, but I got an A because I took him seriously despite his flaws
Well, wonderful for you, but that's a mere factor in deciding the level of your fluency
Yes, but saying that it's just a mere factor is just stating the obvious
Because fluency is subjective
Depending on your job and the amount of soft skills you need
give me a sec to find a chart
This discussion seems interesting
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to prove that you're not fluent, but I believe some people would get the wrong idea from your speech here
that's true
there's a certain amount of gatekeeping of knowledge that happens
for a place like discord, you have to know your audience most ppl arent that good at reading comprehensio and they just skim
As in thinking that fluency is a permanent state dependant on one or just a few components
its kind of the curse of knowledge tbh
You're welcome to join!
Thank you!
Naturally, everything is subjective. That's the reason we need to have certain definitions, otherwise discussion(s) is(are) futile
Honestly, when you are so smart and try to explain ideas in a way that people need to interpret for themselves, like, for example, social progressive libertarianism, then you need to have a certain amount of background knowledge going into it.
If I were to enter a class with Data Structures, then I better know how to code a double nested loop before I can make queues and lists and classes that are combined together, etc.
I was wondering about it too! I don't want to create a bad habit of writting everything incorrect or in bad grammar.
The beauty is that we are uncovering new things and updating our knowledge using the scientific method instead of just winging it.
Scientific consens is a very important concept for STEM literacy
Used to be CS, then CIS then Data Analyst and I'm going to graduate in december 2024
I amassed quite a lot of knowledge from reading a lot, so I'm not a liberal arts student,. I just like to learn how the world works.
That's true
My degree is just part passion and part means to the end.
Also pays good $ to make comfy living
I heard in ATL it is about $75k
I’m the opposite, a liberal arts student who likes to learn nature sciences
Cool.
What do you read?
What of nature science interests you?
Uh, I read physical textbooks for college, but I used to read a lot of dystopian novels and read a lot for class and read thoroughly through a lot of textbooks.
I like psychology, but I think I'd rather care about sociology for now to get a double major in data analyst and sociology.
I might get a minor in psychology idk since i seem to love psychology lmao
I really enjoy astronomy since I was a kid. I’m currently preparing to self study pure math, i’m mastering the basics (I know math is not a nature science but anyway)
I don't really care about history or military history bc it's merely a hobby.
What stage of math you studying?
oh yea and astronomy is pretty cool i got a merit badge and looked at the north star and identified constellations with my own eyes and it was a nice night
That’s interesting. I’m a psych student and thinking about doing my masters in social psychology to study sociology too
But I think i’m going for neuroscience
Pre-calculus
Oh, that's nice to hear! Astronomy is a subject I'm keen on, too
But I switch to algebra since there’s a lot of little rules I didn’t remembered
Although pop astronomy isn't for me, I prefer astrophysics
okay i am going to try to recommend you a tool that my bro has and that i used to have as well
Pre-calc involve a lot of triangles, sine, cosine, and tangent. A lot of formulas based off this, and the word problems you will have to make sure you're fluent and can comprehend what they're asking.
Recognizing constellations is such a pleasure. But I start thinking about scales when I look up to the sky and I just got kinda sad
Way to go! Neuroscience is puzzling but fascinating
That’s why I’m learning calculus, so I can study physics. It seems so hard tho
Which field of physics would you like to learn?
Wait, imma find the english translation
Well, it's true that everything you haven't learned seems hard. Get yourself into theoretical physics:DD
Is it undulatory?
I think it is
I’m really interested in astrophysics and undulatory, if that’s the name in english
Theoretical physics is so appealing
Fundamental particles, then?
I once met a guy here that told that solving physics problems were a huge pleasure
Yeah
It absolutely is
How come?
I’m interested in acoustics
Fair, fair
Physicists don’t really know what it is
It’s nature is kinda mysterious
It's a regular movement of energy, isn't it?
They do know what it is, as far as I'm concerned
Maybe I’m really late in the game then, I remembered what Feynman said about it
“ a certain quantity which we can find out numerically, because it does not change with the various changes in nature. This is a very abstract idea, because it is a mathematical principle: there is a numerical quantity that does not change when something happens.”
abstract, that was what I was looking for
But I imagine that quantum physics is really abstract
That I agree with
I wouldn't agree, quantum physics studies the properties of most fundamental particles there are (on atomic and subatomic level)
Oh, no, I haven't even graduated yet
I really like to imagine things, like Feynman did. Quantum Physics seem very hard to
I'm not, really, but I take interest in it
Damn. How old are you?
Sixteen. And you, if I may ask?
Don't have regrets, I'm sure you're a very knowledgeable person yourself
Well, keep interest and you will, hopefully, one day understand it
Yes, you’re right, I suppose
I just dedicated my teen years to art
So i’m very uneducated in science
I wouldn't say you're uneducated (in science)! You yourself said you're fascinated by exact sciences
If you seek knowledge, to me that already means you are educated
That's wonderful, still
It is quite difficult to maintain advanced curiosity in such unalike fields
I’m flattered. I think I was just said that I was better at humanities because I liked to read and write that I neglected those subjects
But i’m really happy studying them
Yes yes, you’re right
Btw, do you plan going for stem?
What's past is past
If you ask if I'm planning to study STEM related subjects, then yes
And you're studying arts, is that right?
Quantum mechanics, I'd say
I study psychology! I want to be a researcher in neuroscience
I've found myself neglecting expertise in humanitarian subjects due to excessive interest in exact science
Psychology is absolutely fascinating
But I have a lot of art hobbies and still educate myself in art
The hardest one. But fascinating. Good choice
no. they like math
math is bad because it is math
i suggest learning about insects
What's stopping you, then?
Any more profound reasons?
Cant add fractions 🗣️🗣️
What keeps me going is politics. Sociology and history are so interesting because you can make direct observations from your reality
@sonic lion , what do you like about psychology specifically?
Biology is great too, but plants are better than animals. I mean, more fascinating
Oh, politics, that I do despise. I see your point, but I find history and geopolitics and such sciences to be... rather inaccurate
I like jungian psychology
So start studying bruh
the theory of the collective uncontious is fascinating
and also the archetypes of the human psyche
I really like neuroscience because it’s precise. But also nothing is certain because every human is different.
What made me want to study it was Dostoevsky, I simply can go on and on about the human experience. I also really liked philosophy when I was in highschool
I love writing my little essays
Unconscious, you meant?
my bad
Often times have i seen people romanticize jungian concepts such as the shadow
Seems to be a common factor within every science
the shadow of God and the 4th part of the trinity?
or some other thing
Although psychology is hardly considered science
I thought exactly the same until I discover Marx. Then, everything started to make sense. And it changed me and the way I see the world, obviously
debatable, it's just harder to experiment on
That's delightful! I myself have tried to read Dostojewski, failed a few times... miserably so
bc data coming from therapist's patients usually need to be kept confidential
"Carl Jung warns us against the dangers of the collective shadow (the unknown dark side of society) and urges us to develop our personal shadow (the unknown dark side of our personality) to be consciously aware of the collective shadow and not fall prey to it."
It’s a social science.
interesting, im still reading on the archetypes though :P
Questionable nonetheless, very interesting thats for sure
Interesting
Seems so abstract to me but thats merely an opinion
I'm not an ignorant tho, I've studied my ass off too, is just that I wasted a bunch of time 👍
He’s hard to get to! Try to read Kafka’s letter to his father or Fernando Pessoa’s the book of despair. They’re both deeply psychological but easy to read
I haven't heard much of Carl Jung, but it sure sounds captivating, 'collective shadow'
carl jung, the father of analytical psychology
Yeah, gotta warn you though its a long ass read, watching videos is always better
Yes, Kafka I have read, I'll be sure to try Pessoa out! One of the reasons I gave up on Dostojewski was because I tried reading it in the original Russian, too
YOU KNOW RUSSIAN?
At least in Brazil the people consider it as a pseudoscience so no one takes it seriously for a clinical treatment
Well, that is past now, isn't it? You can always try again and seek to fulfil your goals
But it’s interesting tho
I speak some, yes. Do you?
I've read "The liber novus " from Jung it was a pretty cool soul concept introspection
Nah but i find slavic languages amusing
How so?
Different alphabet mostly, and pronunciation sounds hot
Cyrillic is cool af
Everyone that likes him wish to read him in the original. Try to read in english and then read in russian. Btw, which one do you started by?
Fr it’s so beautiful
I learned it with duolingo lmao but then gave up. Might retry after im done with french
Crime and Punishment. Wonderful choice, wasn't it?
Yeah, but learning it is hell
Honestly its very easy with duolingo
One of the reasons I speak and not write or read Russian
Took like 3 weeks to learn the letters
I don't trust Duolingo in many aspects, especially pronunciation
That’s a heavy one to start and it’s so political! One more reason to study sociology
you can learn the alphabet in 4 hours more or less
But the English translation is not that beautiful... It's like reading poetry in another language, never the same
Aye but i did like one 3 min lesson per day
I dont see how it would be used in clinical treatment
oof
Right? Poetry is untranslatable. But idk, I read it in portuguese and the translation was so good.
In psychoanalysis
Well, fair enough, I'll try to read it in my native language
You need to know the politics of the book

Dostoevsky was in the socialist party at the time. He got arrested for conspiracy agains the Czar
When sentenced to death
But got free in the last minute
Yes, that I do know
So he wrote the book
Dostoyevsky really dodged that death sentence lmao
I won't say so, I've just read the main ones, Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy
Hello, how are you, then?
Notes from the underground is good for reflexing
I am, thank you. Good to hear
@thorny steeple are u german?
yet jungian therapy is effective
The despair reflected
Eating cheeseburger wit no honey mustard
No, that's just my nickname
You can see how Raskolnikov believes that by killing the old lady he would make the world better, since she lives by rent and not by work - don’t produce value in society - just like the bourgeoisie
Just like some socialists today that believes that killing some billionaires would wend class struggle
Also, I agree very much so. Knowing the context and the situation in which the book was written really helps to perceive it in a clearer way
It depends a lot on the therapist, idk
even soup?
Banana with greek yogurt and honey
it's true, but I always end up revolving in the same set of feelings regardless
Literature is the reflection of men in it’s time, understanding the historical context is fundamental
Agreed
But the greatest part in crime and punishment is Raskolnikov. Just insane development in the psychology of the character
It’s fascinating
I love his contradictions
How he’s altruistic and misanthropic at the same time
Shame he didn't see the same bourgeoisie's property taken away to collectives
You seem very well informed on this subject
I think a lot about that. Plus, it’s so impressive that he was criticizing some socialists at the time
Instead of writing about the Czar he made some self criticism
I want to get in Turgueniev so bad! What a shame I didn’t yet, sorry
He is regarded as one of the best Russian writers, after all
I love art. I can talk about movies and books all day
That's wonderful!
By the way, have you read Aitmatov, then?
Not at his time tho. His writing wasn’t considered beautiful like the acclaimed french authors. But how are you going to write about the human psyche if not obsessively, hugely detailed and messy?
No, naturally not, nowadays, I mean
I didn’t! :/
I want to get into more russian authors, but I want to finish Dostoevsky’s books first.
I’m currently reading american authors
Try Barbara Kingsolver
She's quite brilliant
Hello
Aitmatov is Kyrgyz, but yes. I have read few American novels
Indeed. But it’s interesting to see how rarely today’s geniuses were appreciated at their time
Like Kafka. It breaks my heart that he died thinking he was a failure and asked his friend to bury all his work
Thank you, I will! I’m always up to female perspectives
Many still are underappreciated today
Hello and welcome
Thanks
true
She's a biologist but writes both fiction and non fiction.
There's something called a role lock.
Sometimes when a person has a way of behaving that gets them into trouble
They will unconsciously seek out others to get into even more trouble.
When two people behaving in these self destructive ways come together, they support each other in destroying themselves.
Even though its extremely self destructive, the relationship has a strong attraction.
Each participant feels pulled into it.
And they are extremely repetative.
You've probably seen countless examples of such relationships.
I need to find a person who happens to be in role lock asap
The roles people take on in role locks have many various names.
For example, victim, bully, leader, follower, person who needs help, person who wants to help, rebel, savior, and many more.
Hello trismegisto
Do you have an interest in understanding role locks?
Groups have a funny way of encouraging people to take on certain roles.
In ways that are not always to the benefit of the persons being encouraged.
They use members to work through certain issues that the group as a whole are struggling with.
Issues that the group faces as a whole get acted out in specific members.
This is called scapegoating.
The group's issue, whatever it is, gets shoved into someone.
Sometimes people will even volunteer to be the scapegoat for the group.
Unfortunately, when this happens, the group as a whole loses the opportunity to understand the issue the group is facing.
And instead becomes completely focused on the person that has taken up the scapegoat role.
Is anyone following along?
I'm dropping in and out between classes. But group dynamics is something I'm interested in and have studied since my days in the army.
Hi Sebjin
@lavish finch that's interesting
Haven't read much about the concept "Role lock", but I can see it in my students. Some kids take on a certain role in the class, and sometimes that role can stick with the for years
Yes
Well I was a recon team and platoon leader. We read about a few different group dynamic theories, mainly DISC and Wheelan
I don't know them. Would you like to tell us about them?
I can go into more detail later when I have some more time, but in general you can say that DISC (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness & Compliance) is a theory of identifying different personalities within a group. Wheelan's theory is more about the different stages a group can go through.
I see
Their purpose is to teach you how to identify different personalities and roles within a group, as well as identifying what stage a group is currently in, so that you as a leader can guide the group to becoming an effective team
I have a class now, but I'll be back later this afternoon, and we can discuss it further.
James del Rey
how is it going guys?
just some assistance from you?
how could i improve my speaking skill in english ? and how long does it take to master speaking skill?
and should i expand more vocabulary to speak well
real Lana been quite silent since this dropped
You see the impact
Synth why did you change your name?
restyling 😄
just more like my xbox tag
cant wait to see
It's so cool but I didn't read everything yet
I used to receive more books than what I was able to read 🤭
Let me see if I can take the photo now
i only read Valis from him, quite an autobiografy on steroids
i want to read more from him, he was such an interesting figure
i watched many documentaries about him
Oh tell more!!
It's the name of the dude, what could I do?! 😅
It's a sci-fi author and it's not adult stories, if you're wondering. Lol 😆

he was a tormented soul that directed his issues and life event into his writings
Eletric dreams inspired Blade Runner @devout shale did you know that?
It's such an amazing movie!!
yea, i saw it
planning to watch again
Very good!
what is the second one?
Blade Runner 2049 I guess
oh right!
didnt watch it yet 😕
Damn this movie is very beautiful visually!!
The colors, the ambience
In the first one, I liked the figurine
That's why I didn't read much tbh. I was much more interested in Asimov's stories. They are more hmmm idk the word for it.
Heyýyy Wass up
Aww well
Hii
yes, he was the author of three laws of robotics
Hyyy
YESSS OMG those are my favorite books! The robot series!!! I love them !!
I want to read it again.

im going to read them when i can!
I Robot, movie with Will Smith was inspired by asimov writings also
Most of those very popular movies are from these authors 🥰
But most people don't like to read as much as they like to watch stuffs so ... They're more popular.
right, but reading is more rewarding
hey
Both ways are cool! But one thing that reading gives you its the hability to make your imagination better. And it's a very good skill to have!
right
Do you like to read?
yes but i should read more
I guess I don't read much now. 🤣
i guess because you are focused on your projects also
Yes, and lately I've been enjoying being here
And talk with people. It has been making good to me.
same
Are you introvert?
I would recommend looking at some YouTube videos about pronounciation and phonetics. Having a good pronounciation is based on how well you can shape the vowel and consonant sounds with your mouth. Different languages shape sounds differently.
mostly yes but i like being around good people
Got it.
and you?
😄

i think introvert vs extrovert depends on how you recharge your "batteries" if being around people or by yourself
