I think telling new learners to focus on grammar is a false guideline people lay down, and to me is one of the worst things you could advise to a new learner. The things you should chiefly focus on are vocabulary, sentence structure, and making sentences.

Vocabulary is super important because it's like the staple of making sentences. How can you make sentences if you don't have vocab to do so?

And sentence structure is also very important, you should learn to put sentences together to be able to convey what you want to say.

Things like grammar, pronunciation, and spelling should be less prioritized because if you have great vocab and the ability to put sentences together with that vocab, there shouldn't be issues understanding you, even if you have bad grammar.
