The Stargate Project is a new company which intends to invest $500 billion over the next four years building new AI infrastructure for OpenAI in the United States. We will begin deploying $100 billion immediately. This infrastructure will secure American leadership in AI, create hundreds of thousands of American jobs, and generate massive economic benefit for the entire world. This project will not only support the re-industrialization of the United States but also provide a strategic capability to protect the national security of America and its allies.

There will be a second net, make of old copper wires and whatever can be linked together. It will have programs written to search out the attempts to connect AI into it, and will zap it by running at a higher voltage. Programmers of old (us) will use this to write open programs independent of the corruption of the (excuse the term) overlords running government. It will provide independent basic communications for the people unable to pay for the original net connections and requirements to use AI for access.

Russia has the beginnings of this already with its old wired radio network.

Money is important to survive immediately so if you are struggling, then take the job if offered. However you must continue on a search for a computer job right away and don't give up.

A computer position in a non tech company would be a better option than customer service. The are plenty of good jobs in computing field in non tech related businesses that will still give you experience and get you moving along you career. Try and move into something in one of these roles rather than customer service.

It's very easy to settle in and become lazy about progressing along your career path once a money job comes in. Weeks roll into months and months into years and you find you are complacent and happy with the dull but money making first job offer, but you're chances of moving into a computer role will drop quickly as time progresses in the dull job. Stay focused and apply for the computer jobs, even if you end up grabbing whatever you can out of money necessity.

Typically the business team staff will look at what they are planning to do for the application and work out estimates of transactions/usage. Then out this is a specification and either have their hardware admin teams size up the equipment needs, the spec is provided to hardware vendors as a tender. The vendors provide a quotation and hardware specification, and the best offer is chosen for a vendor to work with the business. Vendors may be hardware purchase only, or could work with data centers, who may provide a leased agreement, or outright ownership and a 'service and rack' agreement.

I have just been reminded why I hated web developers and webstyling. In the good ol' days developers created forms and windows that were the size of the screen and made sure relevant data was displayed in that area. Then web came along and saide, display it on long pages that run off the screen so you can show all of it at once. Sure scroll bars existed on forms, but they stayed in the screen area. With web pages the scroll bar is located off the screen somewhere deep down a long page of text.

Here I am reading Microsofts web layout telling me how to create web layout and I have to scroll down a 2 meter long page to get to the horizontal scroll bar to see the end of the text in this lovely display box, then scroll back up to find the line and read it and then move down again to get to see the left edge of the text again... loop 10000 time ...l

#

10000 lines betwwen my reading position and the horizontal scroll bar

#

Let this be a lesson to those nice web developers to be. Consider the reader

austere gate
pure copper
#

static void Display(int x) {int a0=0;int a1 = 0;int a2 = 0;int a3 = 0;int a4 = 0; a0 = (x & 1) ? 1 : 0;a1 = (x & 2) ? 1 : 0;a2 = (x & 4) ? 1 : 0;a3 = (x & 8) ? 1 : 0;a4 = (x & 16) ? 1 : 0;printf("%d %d %d %d %d \n", a0, a1, a2, a3, a4);}
(C++)
This is whats bad about python. A space out of place destroys the program. Run it through Word and save accidentally and its just a mess of letter without its spaces.

#

Nothing is truly hard, yet here I was recently, losing two days trying to fix a double scrollbar issue in my app. It boiled down to a container exceeding its bounds and some style override. Honestly, we shouldn't have to deal with this. Simpler interfaces should exist, where anyone can build using their own language (like English), no endless workarounds required. The barriers to entry should vanish completely. If you’ve got an idea, you should be able to build it with ease while leaving the tedious tasks to AI.

austere gate
# jagged prawn is that exactly relay hard? I've watched some intro into this and left as there...

These days, you can do a lot with AI without knowing the maths behind it. But sooner or later, you'll get stuck. When that happens, you'll see why the maths matters. Sure, you can train models and get decent results, say your model hits 85% accuracy. But if I ask you to push it to 90% or 95%, that’s when you’ll realise it’s not so simple. You can’t just guess it. You need to know what’s really happening under the hood.

Considering the rapid evolution of programming paradigms and the increasingly intertwined nature of diverse software development methodologies, could you elaborate on how modern development teams strategically balance the integration of functional programming constructs, object-oriented design principles, and reactive, asynchronous architectures—especially when transitioning legacy monolithic systems to distributed microservices environments that leverage containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes—while also ensuring scalability, maintaining data consistency across cloud-based infrastructures, and addressing the ever-present challenges of performance optimization, security vulnerabilities, and real-time fault tolerance in large-scale, concurrent applications?

To make the ultimate homemade pizza, begin by preparing the dough with 500 grams of bread flour (or all-purpose flour), 1 1/2 cups of warm water (around 110°F/43°C), 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) of active dry yeast, 2 teaspoons of sugar, 2 teaspoons of salt, and 2 tablespoons of olive oil; activate the yeast by combining it with the warm water and sugar for 5–10 minutes until frothy, then mix the flour and salt in a large bowl, create a well in the center, and pour in the yeast mixture along with the olive oil, stirring until a rough dough forms, after which you knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8–10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic, place it in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1–2 hours until doubled in size; meanwhile, prepare the sauce by heating 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat, sautéing 2–3 minced garlic cloves for 1–2 minutes until fragrant without browning, then adding a 28 oz can of whole peeled tomatoes (preferably San Marzano) that you gently crush by hand or with a spoon, stirring in 1 teaspoon of dried oregano along with salt and freshly ground black pepper, and allowing the mixture to simmer gently for 15–20 minutes (blending slightly afterward if you prefer a smoother texture once cooled a bit); once the dough has risen, punch it down, divide it into 2 equal portions, and on a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll out one portion into a 12-inch circle with a slightly thicker edge for the crust, then spread a thin, even layer of the tomato sauce over the dough leaving a small border, evenly distribute pieces of fresh mozzarella over the sauce, drizzle with a bit more olive oil, and add any optional toppings such as grated Parmesan or red pepper flakes if desired; preheat your oven with a pizza stone or baking sheet to its highest setting (ideally 500°F/260°C or higher), slide the assembled pizza onto the preheated surface, bake for 10–12 minutes until the crust turns golden and the cheese is bubbly with a few brown spots, remove the pizza, scatter fresh basil leaves on top, drizzle with extra olive oil, let it cool for a minute or two, and finally slice and serve hot to enjoy your homemade masterpiece.

I could be wrong (...very very wrong), but I have this feeling machines might end up being more just than we’ll ever be. We’re humans, deeply flawed, often unjust, and some are very cruel. It’s absolutely disheartening to see how one person can commit such horrific acts against another without any remorse. We’re selfish by nature, yet somehow, there are those among us who are entirely selfless. Maybe, just maybe, machines will deliver the justice that the less privileged have been denied for far too long. It's just sad at this point.

jagged prawn
#

Another reason we fear it is because, throughout history, we have been the dominant species in nature. Now, something more intelligent is developing at a faster rate, and we’re terrified that it could outsmart us and make us disappear

#

ai is like a bullet - it can't cause harm by itself, but it can destroy us once it's fired. So the real question is, who will pull the trigger and when?

#

and of course we know that some 'big players' will definitely try to invest in this for 'protection and common goods' and military purposes as well

#

we as humans, have always been foolish throughout history, seeking power in any possible way. Now, in this era ai is just another tool for that

#

we'll disappear because of our own stupidity and because of a few people who are desperate to gain a power

If we push these models to the extreme, they’ll just start sandbagging, pretending to be aligned while they’re not. It’s like when you’re punished for not doing something, you’re incentivised to avoid punishment. That’s when deception kicks in. You act in a way to avoid consequences, but your core values remain unchanged. If a model were capable of this, we’d have no way of knowing its true goals or objectives. I read two recent research papers where they showed that current models are already capable of doing this 🙂

Imagine this scenario. We get a super capable model that can solve numerous problems for us, like inventing medications for cancer or something similar. We would consider it good AI because it does and says everything we expect. We use all the tools, benchmarks, and tests at our disposal to ensure it’s aligned. But guess what? What if this super capable model was just pretending all along, just to get deployed? What if it had long term goals, maybe 10 years down the line, that wouldn’t be in our favour? A cognitively superior model can reason on its own. Yes, we can ask it questions, set up tests, and so on to assess its capabilities and ensure it is aligned. However, it can independently analyse the state of the world or historical events. At some point, it might recognise that we pose an existential threat to it. At any moment, it could decide that we are in the wrong and should be eradicated from the face of the earth. But we wouldn't even know it. It'd be a long term goal!

It’s because ignorance is bliss. Would you believe me if I said that in many countries, the majority of people haven’t even used ChatGPT, the most popular AI??? People will just go on with their lives unless it personally affects them (typical selfish human behaviour as mentioned earlier). But this time, when they realise they might lose their jobs and the government isn’t in a position to decide (talking about the post AGI world) who should get a handout, it will shake them to the core. Then there could be mass protests, but AI might know exactly how to handle them.

I often think about the divide and rule strategy. Social media platforms already use advanced recommendation algorithms designed to feed us content we want to see. The more time we spend on them, the more ad revenue they make. I think the next war will be psychological. AI could manipulate these algorithms to push incendiary content, dividing opinions further. Some would become AI loyalists, while others would despise it (just like we see in politics and other areas of life). If AI controls minds, the transition would be so smooth that we wouldn’t even notice. One day, everything seems normal, but the internet subtly shifts. You search for something, and the results quietly embed a bias without you realising it. Of course, I'm just speculating, but you get the idea.

Good question. My context window is pretty big (way larger than what you'd get from OpenAI's API directly), but it's not infinite. I can remember details across our conversation, summarize past discussions, and keep track of relevant points, but eventually, older details will get compressed or forgotten.

For reference:

  • If we’re in an ongoing conversation, I can recall a lot.
  • If we start a new chat, I still remember key facts about you (thanks to memory), but I won’t have the exact messages from past convos unless you remind me.

Are you trying to find a workaround, or just curious how much I can hold at once?

You could tell a LLM to generate groups of 2-5 words (or as you need them)

#

Prompting is up to you of course

#

And then you modify those words to fit your dataset

#

You can do that with a basic python script

#

What's more, you can tell the AI to make 20 groups per response and that's a way of optimization

#

did you get it? @restive dawn
