hello I am currently learning C++ but I cant get my head around a for loop. can anyone help?

Post your question and someone (possibly me although I haven't used C++ for a while) will help

violet otter
#

thank you

#

but uhhh how do I post a question?

long frost
#

You type it?

#

Hi I wrote this code

int main() {
    // Something incredible
}

And it is not doing something incredible. Instead it is doing something very disappointing. Why

#

Or whatever kind of question you have lol

night canopy
#

what language is this?

#

if it's Java, you need to set the keywords "public static" before "int", and i think "int" can be replaced with "void"
like it:

public static void main() {
  // Something incredible
}
#

if it's C or C-liked language, you need to set a return statement for the method, like:

int main() {
 return 0;
}

You didn't ask a question????

#

You said "I can't get my head around a for loop"

#

Ok, show us that for loop

#

There's a for loop that confuses you, great, we still need to see it to help. Otherwise we'll have to list every possible problem you could have with for loops and that's not efficient for anyone

patent field
#

I'll write an explanation just wait

#

For loop it's the same as while loop

#

Just makes your code shorter and better

#
int main()
{

    for(int i=1 ; i<=10 ; i+=2)
    {
        /*first time i = 1
         i = 3 because 1+2 = 3
         i = 5 because 3+2 = 5
         i = 7 because 5+2 = 7
         i = 9 because 7+2 = 9
         i + 2 = 11 and 11>10 so leave the loop*/
        cout<<i<<endl;
    }
    // after you leave the loop do the other things

How are you using the function in other parts of your code?

Ah actually there may be a problem in specific cases

viscid raft

but the problem is because of the malloc function

#

malloc function makes my program ceases to run

#

as you can see on the output

long frost
#

I can't really see that in the output

viscid raft
long frost
#

Oh the very last line?

#

I couldn't tell if it stopped there or if it was just the edge of the image

viscid raft
#

Do you know why the malloc function does that?

#

I've copied that function and I'm using it to read out the first 100 lines of a file as a test

#

It doesn't crash for me

@long frost

it crashes here

Ok I have gotten my program to crash

#

But not where yours did lol

viscid raft

and why it even used to write scripts for Redis

#

why do you think it is getting that interest these days?

long frost

It's been used for a quite a long time

The main reason is just that it's really really really easy to embed into your program

It has a very nice C interface

  • bindings exist for most other languages at this point

So game engines especially often use lua

I have to develop a REST API for an exam, I have some doubt on which is the better way between these two endpoints.

GET /api/v1/users/:role
GET /api/v1/users?role=...

in the second endpoint I could just do all in one line of code, whereas in the first i need to define all the endpoint for all roles, but I can see that the first one is more used, what do you think?

pure badger
#

Why do u need role as argument?

#

And u dont need to define all endpoints, you need to write custom router or just add router from framework

#

In symfony it ll be something like this

#[Route(' /api/v1/users/{role}', name: 'users_role')]

eternal terrace
#

I have already an endpoint GET /users/:id to get an user by their id, should I "merge" it into also :role and check what is passed?

eternal terrace
pure badger
#

ah yes you can, you can check if its string or int

#

or maybe u can add role between /api/v1/:role/users?

#

I am not sure too

#

maybe check int and string is better, but it ll be a mess if u check inside method in my opinion

#

#[Route('/blog/{page}', name: 'blog_list', requirements: ['page' => '\d+'])]
public function list(int $page): Response
{
// ...
}

#[Route('/blog/{slug}', name: 'blog_show')]

Do u need to write router by yourself? Or u can just use one?

#

hi

#

how are you? interested in programming?

marble condor
#

why is everyone coding in C++ and not only C 🥲

#

i have been learning C for approximately 2 and it seems it has no community, dead language AAnobulli

wooden hazel
#

it is not ! I love C lnaguage

pure badger
#

But what are u going to write with it?

#

Drivers?

wooden hazel
#

you can develop software for embedded devices, micro-controllers, linux, Windows 😉

#

it is just one level above the machine code; it means you can shape speed and code size the way you need

#

and any C code - if written well - can be compiled on many hardware platforms

#

what I mean is you can develop powerful C code and use it from small portable devices to even big data centers

pure badger
#

cool

wooden hazel
#

the power of C language lays in its simplicity, it is just above the machine code, so you do not have to struggle with assembler, haha

pure badger
#

cant u do the same with c++?)

wooden hazel
#

of course you can, C++ code is just extended C

#

gives you more power in terms of some abstractions, data structures, so you do not have to write things from scratch

#

the beauty of C and C++ is that it gets compiled to machine code, which is the fastest (these days processors run at GHz - about many billions instructions per second)

#

and good C and C++ compilers give you options to optimize your code the way you need (speed vs. size for example)

#

internal RAM memory management (in case of micro-controllers)

#

if you need someone to chat/talk about it - message me pls

marble condor
#

i think it's really cool if you specialize in something like embedded systems or developing OS.
Otherwise, it won't be that important

#

maybe just to take a grasp about how computer works, right ?

Hey guys, anyone here already used next.js with react-three-fiber and typescript?
i keep getting this error everytime i use Canvas component:

`./node_modules/three/build/three.module.js
Module parse failed: setter should have exactly one param (1433:13)
| return this.source.data;

set image() {

| this.source.data = value;`

marble condor
# warped sphinx Hey guys, anyone here already used next.js with react-three-fiber and typescript...

This error message is indicating that there is a problem with the three.module.js file from the three package, specifically with the image setter method.

This error could be caused by a few different things, but one possible explanation is that there is a version mismatch between the react-three-fiber and three packages.

To resolve this issue, you can try updating the three package to the latest version by running the following command in your terminal:

npm install three@latest

You should also ensure that you are using the latest version of react-three-fiber by running:

npm install react-three-fiber@latest

If updating the packages does not resolve the issue, you can try checking your code for any syntax errors or other issues that may be causing the problem. Additionally, you may want to check the documentation for react-three-fiber and three to see if there are any known issues or compatibility concerns.

Hey thanks for replying. The problem wasn't on my code or the packages version. It is a webpack problem occured because of my next.config.js file.
They said in their docs. They said i need to add this property to my config so my app work

but it did the opposite xD.
I just removed the prop and my app worked fine.

If u see on the error messsage u will find there is a code syntax error

set image() {
|         let value = arguments.length > 0 && arguments[0] !== void 0 ? arguments[0] : null;
|         this.source.data = value;

a setter should have a one parametre wish is value

set image(value) { // they forgot value here
|         let value = arguments.length > 0 && arguments[0] !== void 0 ? arguments[0] : null;
| this.source.data = value; // and they used it here lol

a senior dev in another group saw my code and look at the three.js package and he didn't found this syntax error. So it is probably webpack error.

What is the purpose of the transient keyword in Java? How does it affect serialization?

What are the differences between the HashSet and TreeSet classes in Java? When would you use one over the other?

How does the garbage collection work in Java? Explain the different generations in the garbage collector.

What is the difference between ArrayList and LinkedList in Java? In which scenarios would you prefer one over the other?

What are lambdas and functional interfaces in Java 8? How do they relate to each other?

Explain the synchronized keyword in Java. How does it help in achieving thread safety? Are there any alternatives to using synchronized?

# meager turtle hello

Hi,
I would like to help as much as my experience and knowledge. But a big part of programming is up to you and your research. And those who do not know and love to research, questions and reading, cannot be a programmer. First you have to accept them. 🙂
Now, if we're step on to the "which language" question, what do you have an enthusiasm for first? What would you like to develop, what would you like to learn?
If we know this, we could guide you better.

start to learn coding, you will never feel ready lol. I recommend you find a mentor, maybe book a 1 hour consultation with a professional in a field that you're planning on getting into. It can cost some money, but will save you a lot of time, headache and give you confidence to move forward. It's difficult to learn something not knowing where to even look. Experienced guys know it all. Well, that's what I would tell my beginner self at least.

If you have never programmed, C can help you a lot. So to learn C, I think you can do it in one month or one month and a half. After, you can learn java easier, the only issue is to learn OOP (object oriented programming) but you can do it with motivation in one month too. With html and css there is no problem, you can learn them in one week. Sql (Db) in few weeks you can learn it. You have just to learn the basic of ddl and dml. Good luck for your studies!

C as first language? why not assembly?

lofty salmon
# pure badger C as first language? why not assembly?

Yeah, finally someone with a reason. C is a bad choice as a language to learn programming. Too low level and it doesn't have many practical uses. I'd suggest Python. It's not too complicated and you can actually build interesting or useful stuff with it. That's why many people who need to develop their own software but are not professional developers use Python.

The solution is only after 10.000 years later that these problems will be solved when anarchy reigns. For now, I agree with you, there is no other choice, unfortunately you are right. but never mind politics is shit. learn more and improve yourself. we are like people outside of this situation.
