I hate jlpt sensei
Idk I just wanted to tease you
😠
anyways after ure done with the core deck or its too boring for u its time for mining and creating ur own deck
What if I just mine
u can either go through the work of creating cards by hand each time u find a word during ur immersion time or u just use yomitan anki integration
Like what if I read ascendance of the bookworm. The mc's name is Myne, so maybe I can mine everything
if u want to study names too then yes
u can mine that
i recommend not studying names tho
ok thank you, I shall go through this geezers sets for now
LOL who cares about names. They have furigana anyway, and even Japanese people often don't know how they're written
Except for yamada and yoshida
with yomitan u just click there and it will create a decent flashcard with example sentence (from the text u read) + audio for u
there are name nerds that learn like every city name in japan
or rail station name
They're called programmers who had to implement all Japanese characters into unicode
🙏 let's thank them for their work
so I just rate it based on how difficult/easy it was for me?
Can't the program judge based on time
yes but only use again and good if possible
the penguin guy explained it in his vid if ure curious
yeah new penguin

Flx let's marry in Japan so we can both be citizens
yea like flx said, just use "again" and "good", the other options deviate the timings by too much from what i've seen
damn i never finished the vid so i had no idea about the new algorithm in the settings
LMAOOO
o i gotta get grammar decks
im so stupid
well, i'll take a look at tae kim's grammar guide again and then decide if i want decks
for beginner grammar anki is prolly not that helpful cuz a lot of stuff is 100% new to you and not 1 to 1 translatable from en
for advanced grammar the thing is most of it is just grammar u already know but fancy
like きらいがある = 悪い傾向がある
u can explain it perfectly with stuff u already know so it fits very well into one anki card
女体盛り is crazy
why is my memory so bad

i have no trouble learning and memorizing most words
but a lot of them i also get mindblocked on for some reason
"i always forget this word, i'll try extra hard to remember", then it comes up again and i forgor already (again)

not bad advice except for his choice of what to study first imo
id never study Japanese to pass some stupid jlpt test
studying through frequency decks is a lot more efficient especially if ur final goal is to take n1 anyways
ull have way more fun with Japanese earlier since youll be able to read more immersion material thats actually made for natives not some stupid kids book
JLPT is so easy that u literally dont need any dedicated kanji study for it if you immerse by reading a bit LOL
only grammar might be a problem
WTF
But I would????
same
(srsly when will i get a japanese gf)
furthest ive gotten is ぷりくら session
:(
!!!!!!!!!!! how dare u
nah but like if u wanna work in jp or smth i can see why youd go for JLPT intense study
otherwise its just useless imo
most ppl studying jp do so only for leisure and pop culture anyways so it shouldnt be the go to answer
true but at the same time JLPT can be like a kind of milestone to aim for
a lot of people would find it hard to keep studying without an "end goal"
shouldnt end goal just be fluency
or being able to talk to Japanese ppl
cuz N1 isnt really an end goal
its just a step on the way to fluency lol
of course but that's hard to measure
at N1 a lot of ppl still cant properly talk 🤣
yea hence the quotations
it's very motivating when you see numbers go up that represent your improvement, you can't see numbers for "how well can i hold a conversation"
true if u want numbers thats difficult
but you can also get numbers by like tracking ur reading speed for example
and u can kinda test ur JLPT lvl on the side to also see ur progress
ull improve at JLPT even if u dont focus study for it
yea but my point is, it's easy to settle for "let's aim for N1" as your goal cuz progress for JLPT is so well documented by multiple sources and teachers xd
like i think its good to use it as a benchmark tbh
yea but it depends on the person
many people can't study without clear numerical feedback
true im just talking from my pov of course
for me I never had to study for jlpt except n1 grammar now
When you try to get your statistic to approach a certain value, the statistic becomes useless.
For example, I'm sure you know that I play Tetris and in Tetris there is a statistic called KPP which is short for key presses per piece and I optimized my runs for the past four years to get that statistic to be as low as possible because it's supposed to measure how much effort you're putting in. At some point however the super low KPP requires so much thinking to be done, that I lost about 20% speed compared to my fastest runs
Where are the punctuations
I'll never use voice input again
i'm not arguing whether studying for JLPT is better or not
my point is it's a very natural choice
and we shouldn't fault people for choosing it as a target
when in doubt, osu reference

from my experience ppl who study solely for JLPT improve slower than ppl who just go and take everything they can get since they usually only have JLPT as a motivation after all
or it is because they are too reliant on text books im not sure
im chilling on a lot of language learning servers and ive never seen ppl improve faster than the moeway method in any language
obv u can study fully through a textbook as well, its just a bit slower
if u dont care about time and just want to have fun or a clear goal go for it
in the end ull be fluent as well who cares
scoring at exams and becoming fluent in a language are 2 different things
im good at the former, not the latter

Omg it xapia
Wanna text in Japanese
osu references are so real tho
@full mauve 最近のアァりゃ見た?
i think so too but i heard especially older ppl love them cuz they need that feeling of studying in a group
良かったね、S2をできて
いや、アニメ自体も何も見てない
from what i've seen, people who take language courses study for 3 years just to not be able to speak the language barely at all
yea same
フレックスのこと何か知らない
but thats cuz theyre usually older and just dont have enough time to study a lot of Japanese
once you reach mid-5 digit rank in osu you've gone thru so many stages of learning and improvement
the classes might be their only Japanese in the whole week

Is this xapia

and then u decay and become n5
😭
like I talked to a woman in her 30s yday with a 2year old kid and she said she can maybe at most study for 30min a day
and even that is rlly exhausting according to her since she has work, kids etc
at least I convinced her to buy Japanese audiobooks and manga for her kid so that he can immerse early on in his life already
🙏
Sorry flx for watching eng sub, if I don't have it I'll hear a 5 clause sentence and repeat it 3 times before giving up and turning on the subs
ill be a good father
Pls become my papa
if u were my kid id disown u
jk
its ok i also do the same with kdrama
i do 10 minutes of en sub and then 10 minutes full immersion
bless VNs for having a "repeat audio" feature
fr
VNs are made for perfect immersion 🙏
just a bit difficult to get into them
unfortunately
requires some set up for sure
not only that but also like u need a ton of time to actually enjoy a vn
even if ur reading speed is native most good vns take 40hrs+
most ppl just dont got that time for one "book" game
well if ure the kinda person that can enjoy stuff over a long period of time it might not be a problem but personally I lose the immersion in the story if I play a VN over several months
had the same issue its rlly annoying
idk if there is smth the devs can do about that tho
Ayyy brave user 🤝
It looks into the memory of a different process, what is it if not malware

@full mauve is it a good idea to avoid 外来語 as much as I can
why
isn't it kinda cool and not がいじん
actually it also kinda has おじいさん vibes so maybe I won't
this
ure cool if u use gairaigo
its literally slang often times lol
how do I know when I am supposed to use things like "ni", "wa", "desu"
for some reason I sometimes decide to use them and it's correct like out of some weird gut feeling but I can't tell why...
so like desu is for a statement?? as desu ka is for questions?
"to" is like and
Japanese isn't related to English at all, so a lot of the concepts can't be translated 1:1, and often have minimal overlap in meaning with its counterpart
yeah I get that, I'm not looking for a direct translation
but it's like those ones I mentioned, desu ka, desu and to... not necesarily 1:1 translations but I can describe which situations you would use them and why
but things like ni and wa I don't really understand
Watch this guy. He's insanely good at explaining what they all do
https://youtube.com/@kanamenaito?si=RlhettUQfd-NiOW7
alrighty ty
Wa is the "topic" particle. You're stating the topic of the conversation. If you want to talk about yourself, you'll say "わたしは"
If you want to say "I'm good at singing", you'll say "わたし は うた が うまい です"
If you want to say I have a lot of friends, you'll say "わたし は ともだし が いっぱい うる"
It's kind of like "oh, me? (I) have a lot of friends"
Ni is a complex particle
Can be used in a lot of cases
Btw, the wa particle is written as は
Yes it's ha, but you read it as wa when you know it's a topic particle
Idk why, maybe it's easier to read
No, the topic can be anything
If you read a textbook, they'll say that wa is just "is". But it isn't
right okay yeah I understand it now
I just opened duolingo and the first sentence I got was "toronto wa dou desu ka" so "toronto" is the topic
so wa comes after
I understand
wakatta
There's a lot of use cases for ni.
Simplest one being "X in Y". Like ペン は あの はこ に います
"pen wa that box in exists"
there's also de for places instead
Sometimes you can use either. Both がっこ に and がっこ で mean "at school". But the meanings are slightly different. Ni is actually used when you're inside the school because of some reason, and de is used when you just happened to be there.
Ni can also be used as "and" for people
It also shows a direction. "I'm going to school" = かっこ に いきます
I could go on about every particle in the world but I think you should listen to more Japanese and you'll get it
Makes sense, I’ve seen it a lot in somebody lives in’s a city such as “Liam wa toukyou ni sundeimasu”
Vibes are not a bad thing. I speak English purely by vibes, and I'm very good at it
Yeah
I mean that’s how like natives speak in a way, sometimes they can’t explain why something is how it is
I am like that with some English things as well
damn boy I just got a perfect lesson with the things I just learned
learning japanese is so fun
By the way, you can combine particles. You'll hear には or では when the topic is a place. If you say "わたし には...", then the topic is your inside. For example, やたし には かんがえ が ある means "inside of me there's an idea", or "I have an idea"
Also don't use the topic particle unless you want to change the topic
hmm okay
getting a bit complicated for me now there but I'm sure I'll understand what you mean once I get to it
tldr: they're called "particles" and they basically "tag" each part of the sentence with their "function"
timmy eats an apple
SUBJECT: timmy
VERB: to eat
OBJECT: apple
timmy would be marked with the topic particle は and apple with the object particle を
_ _
timmyはappleをeats
timmy wa ringo o taberu

the basics are pretty simple it's just that @abstract mist is getting into details and that can be overwhelming
which is understandable
yeah fair
I'm understanding it more
makes a lot of sense
one step at a time
I'm not a fan of when the word is different from it's hiragana like ha being wa or wo being o (I'm guessing from your example)
seems a bit confusing for no reason
dw it's only on these two particles specifically
ah okay good
yeah yeah
also most things are written in kanji, so in practice these particles really stick out in a sentence
making them super easy to spot and thus read
duolingo eases you into it iirc and never makes you learn kanji on its own which is nice imo
it teaches you vocab and you learn kanji that way
yeah it's nice
it will give you a word, show you the kanji, have you write it (but it will give you arrows) and then slowly removes a stroke and the arrows
until you can write it on your own
I know about 5 right now
idk my focus is more on just being able to speak right now
so I'm just doing romaji
and hiragana
and will pick up kanji along the way but probably not go into it extensively
reading will help you improve a lot faster so i recommend that you do look into it, even if your goal is only speaking
i'd also recommend turning off romaji at some point and going all in on reading kana
but it's up to you ofc, i just genuinely think reading helps so much
I figured I could read with mainly hiragana but idk
I learned kana by seeing jp text and looking up the kana that I didn't know
watch anime with jp sub
yeah I do
i dont
although not with like just kanji
with romaji
maybe I should do kanji though
or both
ideally
kanji is srsly really helpful
studying by reading is rlly the easiest thing u can do as well I agree
okay I'll study it
man I feel like I know a decent amount but then I just try to self insert into a japanese conversation (like listen to a question and try to answer it in japanese to myself) and I just struggle
my understanding is pretty good though
Yea thats normal , output is always the end game
First you need hours upon hours of input
After some time (years usually) ull naturally think of the right Japanese answers
eroge

how reliable is chatgpt for jp learning
sometimes i want example sentences with multiple specific words and that's not possible with a google search
今日は郵便局で葉書を出すために、切手を買いました。
seems correct to me :o
:3
yes chat gpt is pretty op especially 4o
from my experience its correct 95% of the time
the more context u give it the more likely that its gonna be correct for translations
Learning Japanese is making my English sentence structure get weird wtf
In Duolingo you have questions where you translate it but I keep writing it in the Japanese structure as well without realising
Bruh
Need to learn to flip between the two better

it's funny
it's kinda like how in dutch/german they flip the names of numbers, 22 is "two and twenty"
I didn't know that, that is so weird

Hi gyze, how to type ディ without "deli" in android?
I mean using normal keyboard
This abomination isn't used even among natives, at least I don't know a single human who uses it
*correcting myself, was referring to how qwerty is more popular over kana keyboard on desktop, thats obvious that 10 key input is more popular among phone-only users in everyday life
But based on how ineffective it is to get used to 2 typing methods at a time sticking to qwerty on a phone too
WHAT
it's so comfy, no way they don't use it, especially because it was the default on ketai
maybe you mean physical JIS keyboard kana input?
couldn't be further from the truth
there's an initial bump you need to go over
but you'll gain a lot of speed quickly
big buttons are just that good
it's inefficient now, but you'll be glad you learned it in a few weeks
- the 12 key is a very intuitive layout
and you're not getting used to 2 typing methods. You're only getting used to one, as you're already used to qwerty
ig you mean on desktop
on mobile pretty sure 12 key is common
Yeah Ive clarified it here
So theres no way of typing it?
Lol first time ever chatgpt gave me some meaningful answer
Its dhi
chatgpt is literally goated wdym
i think out of like 300 korean questions ive asked chatgpt up until now it only messed up about 20-30 questions
compared to like a 50% fail rate on google translate and 20% on papago
what's the difference between h and x
deepl no korean?
Deepl is also meh
chatgpt is the most accurate from my experience
as it can understand context as well
google translate is appaling
like now that I'm learning japanese even like the most basic sentences get translated strangely

german uses ne as well with the same meaning as in japanese lmao

Such a big flx to know german, english, japanese, and korean
russian uses ",не так ли?" [ne tak li] (not like this or?) but its a bit cringe imo, the other way is putting "же" [zhe] in the middle of a questionable sentence, mostly after pronouns
English has "innit bruv"
ne is like "right"? ne?

i wish
i started studying hand written kanji today since i noticed ill need them for chinese down the road anyways
i thought about buying some tool but ill just do it with anki and one note i think
god bless anki
i never noticed lmao
i just do it by instinct when saying the words
power of immersion
🤣
Wtf why this has a dedicated set of 4 characters for it: 魑魅魍魎

wait for anime adaptation which could never happen c:
inb4 they say "you put the milk first and then the cereals" so you ditch them immediately
also wrong channel
it a japanese person
REAL
the way i understand it (and this is kinda how Tae Kim explains it in his grammar guide), は is the "topic particle", while が is the "identifier particle"
the difference is that while は indicates the topic you're talking about, が identifies "the one" particular thing you're talking about
私は先生 - I am a teacher.
私が先生 - I am the teacher. (e.g. the one you were looking for or were talking about earlier)
in this case, by using が in "i like you", you're emphasizing the fact that they are the one person you like
anyone better at jp than me feel free to correct me, but tae kim's explaination of は vs が has always made the most sense to me
I know the difference, but shouldn't it be きみを好き
also i don't think "kimi" is ever written in kana :o always the kanji 君
it's an easy kanji to remember
I've seen all kinds of things written with just kana
Sometimes Japanese are too lazy to choose the kanji in short messages
nuh uh
ないす
too lazy to katakana too
naisu
speaking of 日本語上手 one day i'm gonna die from having to learn similar but different words
寝る (neru) vs 眠る (nemuru)
きっと (kitto) vs かならず (kanarazu)
死ぬ (shinu) vs 亡くなる (nakunaru)
止む (yamu) vs 辞める (yameru)
積り (tsumori) vs 計画 (keikaku)
答え (kotae) vs 返事 (henji)
_ _
also will definitely die from having to remember transitive vs intransitive verbs
開ける (akeru) = to open (transitive)
開く (aku) = to open (intransitive)
also wtf 開く can also be read as 開く (hiraku) but then the meaning changes slightly, and can be either transitive or intransitive

Exactly what's so difficult
Besides 1st one
the differences aren't difficult, what's difficult is that they're easy to forget when so many words mean the same things
or not the same things, but similar things
and these are only N5-N4 examples, so i can imagine it's only scratching the surface
寝る (neru) and 眠る (nemuru) both mean "to sleep", the difference is that 寝る (neru) is about the act of "going to sleep" (for example, going to lie down in bed), while 眠る (nemuru) is about the state of "being asleep" (unconscious)
i had to look it up
man
I don't see at all how tsumori and keikaku are similar
then again, I guess they both mean "plans" in English
not as similar as the other words on the list
I would translate as "intent" vs "plan" though
but you get me

I keep forgetting that IME uses nn for ん
yea it's just easier to remember different words when their meanings are very different as well, when they all mean similar stuff, it's harder to remember
obv i also have doodoo memory skill issue
I'm playing a game of thesaurus
there's also 見る, 見える, 見せる, 見つかる, 見つける, which are all pretty different, and even tho this is an easy example, you can see how with more advanced examples this could get confusing

these are just conjugations
are they? they're just different words
miru - will watch
mieru - can watch
miseru - will make you watch
mitsukaru - will be found
mitsukeru - will find
not conjugations
i did talk about transitive vs intransitive verbs
聞こえる、聞かせる、聞く
here
Idk what that means sorry
it means what you said
transitive = active verb
intransitive = passive verb
Oh. To thing vs to be thinged
and it doesn't mean it's a conjugation, cuz there doesn't really seem to be much of a pattern
if at all
they're just different words that just start with the same kanji
i mean, unless i'm wrong lmao
conjugations are like, past and/or polite forms, and negation
they have very recognizable patterns (tho with exceptions ofc, yay language)
this is getting more confusing
ig there's no point memorizing
just gotta read more and have a feel for it
where did you find this btw
jisho
当たり前じゃないですか、あのカナメさんですよ
新たな漢字が出た
I just realized, がた such as in "あなた方", "先輩方", 先生方 doesn't just make things plural. It has a meaning, "group". So "a group of senpais" or "a group of you".
I understood it because of blood types
You guys call them types, but in Russian, we call them blood groups
O-方 means "blood group O"
Also in Russian we use a different kind of blood type naming system. Mine is "first positive". "First" meaning "type 0" and "positive" meaning Rh+
There's 4 groups of blood. Overall I think it's less intuitive than AB0
nvm I'm stupid
The kanji is different
Me when I have a pattern seeking brain
For me relatable nouns help a lot
E.g. 寝る and 眠る are easier to distinguish when you know 睡眠
Or e.g. 見る and 視る(legacy) by knowing 視力
Or 喋る and 論じる by 結論
ye
im not quite at 28 but im suprised at myself that im keeping a streak tbh

but it must say i cheated some days because i was lazy
so i didnt do every day with full focus lool

I'll probably do vocab cards. That's the only information I need anyway

But I only press good if i got the word itself right
I only use the sentence to make sure I study one meaning at a time
Damn
Im struggling with 10
But well I do like 4 decks
tbf this is N5-N4
Just noticed i havent done my grammar deck yet fml
So u know like half of it already ?
i recognize many of the words
well more "i've heard this word before" type of knowing
Should I mine the decks myself or use an existing one for like the most common 500 words
like for example 興味 (きょうみ), i wouldn't have been able to tell you from memory but hearing it i recognize it from anime phrases (like for example 興味がある?)
which makes it easier for me to memorize c:
honestly idek where i heard that phrase, but it's there somewhere in my brain, somehow
気になりました?
お気になされましたですか?
Hear this quite often in fantasy setting about nobles
did u do core decks?
No I can't read anything
id say if you got one of the major core decks done then you can mine
i heard that you most likely wanna use premade decks at first
i mean you can always mine but idk if its worth for super common words
lol thats convenient
If ure missing a lot of common words core decks r smart yr
yeah
I only decided to skip core decks with Korean cuz of my jp 語彙 advantage
hi flx
i c ur gtng lazier by the day
wdym😭
you're typing with lots of shortenings
thats just us germans in general
I'm lazier on pc. I type exactly the same but I recently became too lazy to press my shift key
Also i will not be able to go to the bday i wanted to go to thanks to german trains so now i can immerse yay
Kms
I wanna go back to Japan
😭😭😭
pffft, you should've known to come to the station a day before the train comes. so that you can take the yesterday's train when the train you bought the tickets for is cancelled
lowercase >
He says you gotta include at least 2 hours of delay time each time you ride
i've purposefully disabled auto-capitalization on my mobile keyboard
when we ride the bus we include 10 minutes of delay into whatever time the map says it takes. 10 on top of the waiting time the map expects
POV: my whole ride takes 30mins but I go ahead and try to take the train 2 hrs early and still come late
I always wanted to do that but im too lazy

atri my dear moments?
Oh I watched that ANIME
I'm broke asf I need to get a job
Vn adaptations suck usually
I'm so broke I can't even pay for necessities

its ok to pirate if ure broke
Tell that the laywer
dont be like max and me and pirate if u actually have money
its ok to pirate if the game is EA
jk ik what you mean
fr
oh no the moderation team is coming to tell us not to discuss piracy
difference between pirating and buying a game is that when you pirate the game you actually own it
Dont know what you mean

the anime has all sorts of people, I'm pretty sure they're based on like, real life vtuber types?
I'm pretty sure I saw Shigure Ui (illustrator), Matsuri (very energetic/chaotic and she's very good at games), Yuzuki Choco (revealing outfit and seductive character), Okayu (catgirl, didn't appear much), 🅱️in🅱️en🅱️ose (degenerate prince), etc etc
...Himemori Luna? The little baby type?

英語が上手になりたい is a bit tricky
you have an omit "I" in japanese here
meanwhile in en u say "I want to become good at engulishu"
私は英語が上手になりたい is also grammatically correct , 私が英語が上手になりたい as well but it only fits in very specific context really

An attempt to get from Haneda Airport to my hotel in Shinjuku via the Keikyu Line. I transfer to a few different subway lines along the way. An extra long flight that was 2 hours late to arrive due having to make an emergency stop in Vancouver did me in, an exhausted Johnny screwed up and went the wrong way... oops.
Recorded in 4K at 60 FPS on ...

@full mauve touhou means eastern lands???
Actually makes sense!!! Tou (from Tokyo) meaning "east" and "hou" meaning "direction"
So touhou the bullet hell means "eastern lands"
One of the touhou is story of Eastern wonderland
Yes touhou means "eastern direction"
One of the games
I was agreeing with you
Oh I see
I thought you meant "only one of the touhou games"

Some stations in Japan are labyrinths where even locals can get lost.
But if you ask a Japanese person the way, they may evade you because they’re not confident with their English and don’t want to be seen struggling to speak the language. Embarrassing themselves in public is the most dreadful situation for a Japanese person.
But if they are ...

Ever wonder why German in Japanese anime sounds like gibberish? In this video we explore the fascinating world of linguistics and learn about why many German names and lyrics sound so weird in Japanese.
In the first part I break down the differences between Japanese and German (and English) sounds and syllables. You'll learn how each language's...
