Hello everyone, I've been wanting to get a telescope for a few years now since moving further out into the countryside, and finding the Astrobiscuit channel has given me the push to finally buy something. I found this setup for sale:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/127742248658?_skw=skywatcher+heq5&itmmeta=01KKWG16YNK5JX56HRR9D5E58S&hash=item1dbe0806d2:g:GUUAAeSwuylpMHAi&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAAA8LB2JXbe%2Bh2pdWBqbR2c2Du%2FczvFxgE4Ay%2BtM7VeBSLA2UxCy3yD3DWdzgBcoMXnyVfQY6iYeXhLoXBBbWImNSfR%2FHDjRIWzsojkk7HCDttx2kuC7crXAZcwYWNGbU1z5SDCxnYKw70kkz0au3GSqKLnqZ5ZFDDDtPM%2F65qx9FIC31ts0iMZvahYjuJhcBJChhJiGx3dgBlidL2KQ1XMlXik1RoNZmxpfZB7JcA%2B5KZ6OHBHaLiCO5KR%2F6Fc3c5ZiqNtQ6FynzavikWcVaA7CwxJQbAsBjEDvrh1tnmRpCMmTxPrRWIbQxlPQZE9GSV5kg%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR87vhJCfZw

(Also found a 12" Dob the size of a small building but I think lets stick with this for now lol)

A few questions if someone could please help:

  • 8" seems to be the best to go with for a beginner right?
  • It is a HEQ-5 mount with the goto mod, its the black one which I think is an older model, would this cause any issues?
  • With the right attachments (dovetail and ball joint I believe?) Could I attach my DSLR to the mount to attempt some photography as well?
  • Apart from the accessories that come with it, is there anything else I would need to start with some planetary and DSO visual observations?

Prefer to buy things 2nd hand if possible, reuse and save some money

Thank you for your help

Future nerd (hopefully)

i've seen this listing up for a loooong time, wouldn't be too surprised if you could lowball it.

ofc lowballing can be risky tho

What do you want to use it for? Visual? Astrophotography? Planets? Nebulae?

For visual observation 8” scope is a sweet spot. I just find the AZ mount as easier for this. With eq mount you will have to polar align it every time you move it. It’s a different thing if you want to use it to take photos.
