even if the azeq5 has belts (diy mod? I've never seen it) the heq5 can also be modded and will take more weight

I have a question about polar scopes, is polar scope "outside" the mount worse than builded in one, or same?

but considering the pricing for local mounts you might as well go for a harmonic drive mount from china, you can get something top tier for the price of that new heq5

it's not only an issue of weight, the size and how high the payload sits also matter

at that size I'd just look into a dobson, unless you have something to do that requires tracking

The azeq5 has belts from factory, I would only choose the heq5 if it was cheaper as it can't carry as much weight and the azeq5 apparently has encoders which may be useful for visual with the freedom find function.

It's very different internally, the gear ratios are all different. I thought the heq5 could only carry 11kg and was sold with gears rather than belts, has it been updated?

This is a rule of thumb for every mount, never use the maximum payload

I run it with a C8 for photography, around 12kg of equipment, and I get decent guiding on average. For visual the payload is significant lighter because there is no camera, efw etc. I have no issue with the C8

Yeah it has the freedom find function, it's mostly meant for visual as I'm not sure about the resolution but it was useful when I did outreach once and mounted two scopes on it

Also the az-eq6 has insane capacity you can quite happily load it right up to the 25kg limit skywatcher stated in EQ mode
