at the moment i have a newtonian alt-z (focal lenght 900 and 114 diameter) and i remember someone telling me that newtonian is not the best telescope for DSO photography (i also dont have a goto mount) i never tried doing DSO with my telescope because of the mount, where i live the goto mounts are expensive and in reality the telescope i have is relatively cheap (i found a similar one for 259 dollars on ebay)

i was thinking of investing more money into the hobby by buying a new telescope or a goto mount and i found the Seestars, a telescope that would track whatever i wanted to see or photograph for 500 dollars, but i dont know wich one to choose because de s30 seems to have more of a wide view and the s50 more "zoom" into some DSOs and would crop a bit of it, would you guys recommend me upgrade my telecope or buying one of the Seestar telescopes ?

(the telescope i have is similar to the one in the image)

Have used the one in the picture, can confirm it is not fun and the mount is absolutely horrible Sadge
Seestars really offer unbeatable value (unless you find insane second-hand deals) and in that price range is pretty much the only option for semi-serious imaging
As for the S30 vs S50 debate, it really depends on your needs/wants; common criticism for S50 is that a lot of the popular DSOs are kind of "cut off" because the long-ish focal length, and this respect the S30 does have an advantage. S30 kinda sucks for planetary though (S50 isn't great either but is more workable)
I recommend watching this comparison video by Nico from Nebula photos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fkUAUVrL9o&t=1018s
Another option would be to get a star tracker but at your budget you would have to have a DSLR/lenses already and if you will quickly go way overbudget

Im not saying seestar is a hobby killer but you will want to change very fast

Or if you want a scope for pure visual, maybe look into a Dobsonian

Cant tell ya if its better as i dont own a S50. Its definatley more compact tho so thats a plus. You do probably wanna get a Tripod for it tho since the included one doesnt allow for EQ mounting [if you wanna do astrophotography]

Personally im in love with the S30, for 400 bucks [price i paid] its so easy to use. Just put it down, turn it on, connect and tell it what to do, all via your Phone. Great to get into the hobby [or in my case get BACK into it] and completely foolproof

and get an EQ thing

if you can

#

to do longer exposures

And if he doesnt wanna do AP, he doesnt need one at all honestly

mystic silo
#

this thing is made for astrophotography😭😭

I think if you get a seestar its because you cant afford a full setup

#

and the seestar has everything included

#

the seestar is MADE for ap and not visual

dark granite

Yeah I've never said the contrary, I said that he could buy an EQ wedge to take longer exposures

dark granite

Yea, but if hes already on a tight budget, im saying its not needed

not to mention the s30 sensor...

#

even my guidescope has more aperture than an S30

dark granite

The S30 is completely fine and ive gotten great pictures with it. Plus its usually the cheapest option

Yeah I haven't said you didnt, I said the dwarf 2 is better and cheaper

dark granite

In what ways is it better?

Seestar s50 is overall the best smart telescopes (as a spart telescope hater)

If the seestar was any more expensive no one in the target audience would buy it

The dwarf III seems interesting but there is a problem, the only way of me to buy it would be to import it and in my country the import tax would be 60% the price of the telescope so it would be over the budget

#

this is the worst of all the smart scopes i have it

#

it's cheap af for a reason

#

i only reccomend it if you cannot push the budget past $300

#

for s30 vs s50, the s30 is better

#

s50 does get more detail since it has more aperture and focal length but the s30 has more features and better technology i think

do you want to image bigger objects and have more features, get the s30
