I have been following astrobiscuits on youtube for a while now and I would like to get a telescope, I have narrowed it down to potentially 3 I like.

I will be using it for casual viewing of the night sky, no real astrophotography just yet (maybe the odd photo via my phone) but would be good if what I want could be adapted in the future.

My budget is around £400 and can't have anything too big as storage is limited.

My 3 choices are as follows:

A) Skywatcher startravel 80 (£205)
B) Sky-Watcher StarQuest-102R (£269)
C) Sky-Watcher Startravel 120 (£379)

If I get A or B I might be able to pick up some additional higher quality optics when I order the telescope. C doesn't leave much in the budget for additional optics, that said if C is best of the bunch I'm happy to wait to get better higher quality optics at a later date, I would rather get the best scope possible at the moment and not buy something that I want to upgrade after a few months.

I'm open to other suggestions too, I have avoided Dobsonsians mainly because of the size issue.

Thanks Matt.

mmh it's true that dobs are large but they can view both dso and planets, with the startravel 120 it's not as good for the latter

sure, they do have a cap on top to keep the mirror safe but I'd also use a cover to keep it from getting dusty
