Between the nearly full moon and Bortle 6/7 skies, there just wasn't enough signal there to get a clean pic. I might try to capture more data to improve it if I get another opportunity. This is still neat to look at though.

Here's what I managed to scrape off of the noise floor for my attempt at the Helix Galaxy (NGC 2685).

Equipment:

  • EdgeHD 8
  • ASI294MM w/ LRGB filters
  • Sky-Watcher EvoStar 72ED + ASI715MC (guidescope)
  • ASIair+
  • iOptron HAE29

Stack:

  • 251x120s L (8.4 hr)
  • 63x120s R (2.1 hr)
  • 63x120s G (2.1 hr)
  • 60x120s B (2.0 hr)

Processing:

  • PixInsight w/ BlurX, NoiseX
  • GNU IMP

Yep, the Helix Nebula kinda looks like an eye. Usually red and blue with some yellows white here and there, this is a galaxy
