There are polarscopes with levels which is handy
Must be a thing in premium mounts
Then it rotates with RA
I have the gti, I don’t think it rotates with the RA
I've never had problems with TPPA. As long is you run it a few times, it is very accurate. I can easily get 120s subs unguided at 450mm fl.
I don’t even bother running it multiple times and it’s still fine at 490 lol
if you have a large initial error then you need to rerun it a couple times for it to be accurate
You are discovering how much pa error you can get away with without a problem
It's probably less than the RA periodic error you actually have to worry about
Wuh oh it seems the 'conspiracy theories and how to avoid them' meeting took a turn lol
How many of you do optical simulations?

I don't
Who said that?
From reading the convo, this is something you should try out on your own. Drift allignment vs tppa
the issue is not drift alignment vs tppa. It's polar scope vs tppa
They're referring to drift allignment from which you use the polar scope
No, all they said was that they "verified" (by using drift alignment) that the polar scope was more accurate than tppa
ik drift is better than tppa
the issue is polar scope vs tppa
its more complicated than that, basically the idea is that polarscopes largely has one source of error (alignment) when aligned means you can get fairly accurate PAs, and that TPPA is generally not as accurate as other methods since its indirect and susceptible to other uncontrollable errors
the only counterargument i've heard is "its visual so its bad"
and since its common to nail down PA using drift alignment people get an idea of how accurate these methods are
Getting advice from r/ap.. not that bad but cmon

Thunking of the long term what should i invest in for DSO imaging? (Current gear HEQ5, Canon Eos 500d, Tamron 18-400mm lens, Skywatcher 200pds) (I can manage 180 sec subs unguided on 400mm)

holy what has general chat done to you
I think you mean what I've done to general chat

i legit have no clue who u are icl#

Me neither tbh
I dont know who I am
Whoever prays upon my downfall prays upon the downfall of this server
why lol?

you put an 8" on an eq2, YOU are the one that needs to be banned🥀

No astrobuiscuit without dubaiastro
bring back dubaiastrology
Nick has a point...
I agree with rude but you gotta give it to them that they are knowledgeable, i just wish it was more welcoming to newer people
Which telescope should i get in the future (mainly for galaxy imaging)

Skywatcher Quattro 8" f/4
Well yeah, but sometimes they are also very rough with beginner gear
Which proves ur point yea
Yup
You cant expect a beginner to hypertune their gti lol
Exactly lmao

thats cute
@velvet shore it seems your brain is dead because you answered no.
Did not.
No I meant the other poll that I made
This one
I genuinely had no clue what that poll is talking about.
I've never heard of any🔥
Skill issue.
probably any bw one
Not all black-and-white film stocks are great for long time-exposures.
ye but
lum
My understanding is that in colour films, light sensitivity is not affected in the same way as in the Bayer matrix in digital cameras since the photons are not blocked by the individual colour-sensitive layers.
So black-and-white stocks are thus not inherently more sensitive.
It is more useful to look at the reciprocity characteristics of each film since reciprocity failure (light-sensitivity decreasing during a time-exposure) affects some film stocks less than others.
Not a valid reason.
then aerochrome cause infrared
No.
This would be like saying that Astromasters are the best telescopes because they are the cheapest.
if you had to buy another telescope after every picture, they probably would be
A single roll lasts for quite a while though.
Do you watch star wars on may the 4th?

Go anywhere at any time in the universe?
I'm currently rocking the canon eos 750d and I enjoy the wider view so maybe keep that in mind (Im at 600mm)
you can ofc add suggestions
yea the smaller fovs are quite intimidating
Save up for the 533 imo
Buy once cry once 🙂
you're already pretty close
Yup 533 is double the fov for not double the price.
585 is good if you plan on IR imaging.
If you like the wider fov don’t get a 585.
Artemis is 294mc so avoid
why though
294 is notorious for having issues.
For more info ask @strong merlin
I might get the ares because its cheaper, and I could probably deal with the fov when I build my eq plate
Might be worth saving the pennies for a 571
Of course not to say the 533 is a bad sensor, it’s very good. Just narrow
I’d definitely avoid the 294 for a first DSO camera
Once I get the eq plate, I won’t need such a large sensor, and I can do shorter exposures with less noise+ some lucky imaging, so I might just go with the 585 or the 533
Why wouldn’t you benefit from a larger sensor?
What do you mean, I’m just getting a smaller sensor bacause it is applicable for my situation for a lower cost
Oh I mean yea that’s fair
But just remember buy once cry once is real in this hobby lol
lol, also it’s useful for planetary
Is it an IMX 585 or IMX 533?
A 533 won’t be that good for planetary
Low fps
585 is great for planetary, does very well in DSO, but is half the size of a 533
I don’t mind the low fps too much, planetary is something I do rarely, and I want to invest more in dso, only thing that could be an issue would be low fps when lucky imaging, but my exposures will be long enough that it won’t matter
@eager gulch got some really dope planetary pics with it
585 is the best of both worlds. it does a great job in DSO and Planetary

Really? Good to know
533 will be fine for planetary you just need to crop ROI
its not going to be as blistering fast as a 585 but its unlikely you will need that since it can go 100+ fps
Will the 533 be better then my SVBONY sv305 pro planetary cam (290 sensor)
for planetary
No
Because the smaller sensor size of the 290? Or any other reason
533mc has more read noise, not that much more QE, and has lower fps
does the 290 have amp glow?
Also 290 has smaller pixels
Not really important with barlows
Canon EOS 500.
I coukd also get the ares c pro or the asi533 c then. Would be in the budget
533mm
No.
that would be terrible
Why is Ektachrome so popular?
Minecraft or interstellar (could be bias as ive not watched star wars that much)
C418 hits a note in my heart
C418 the goat
80 minutes left.
Most challenging poll ever
not really. Minecraft built our childhoods one block at a time
Why must you do this
All of them are awesome
I listen to interstellar a lot more but minecraft is
And star wars as well (but I'm going to have to put them last)
I'm going minecraft because I feel the music is a bit better to listen to by itself
Note: by minecraft I mean c418
Who dared to ping me?
@brazen sundial erdo is from hungary isn't he? sarah is african
Oh shoot
Deleted it cos it wouldn’t let me edit it but now can’t be arsed to make a new one
Anyway
I think Aveline would be a good candidate
Oh god
I mean, many of them are pretty much synonymous with him
oh hell no please
i'm catholic and couldn't imagine what the church would be like under him
sigh Please keep it on topic in the astrophotography forum. Thank you.
