I did have a very scary moment with my mount once
forgot to turn on mount limits, and exactly that night it thought it was a good idea to run into itself and keep doing that for the entire night (I was asleep)
the day after it was clear, I feared for my life it was broken. and idk how but that night I had the best guiding I've ever had
mission failed successfully
yea hahahaha
orrr your mount not working for 1 1/2 years so you rage quit and have to buy a new one
maxed out at 20s exposures on a good night
with guiding
200mm btw
idk dude. kinda hard that my pa was off for 1 1/2 every single session
do you do pa via software?
and just magicly when I buy a new mount I can 90s exposures without a single one being ruined
no I tried it once and it made my pa worse
manual pa is horrible
I should try 300s for once I think that could work
that means you are doing ti wrong and you are suposed to run it 2+ times
eh idk. my pa is fine rn
guiding is usually between 0.8 and 1.8 (swsa gti)
Seeing is the worst, i average like 5" seeing and that makes solar and planetary literally impossible
damnn
eh kinda hard to say. according to lpmap my exact location is 6, but I think its more of a 7. but when I look east I look at the biggest airport in the country and if I look west I look over a city
my area is quite weird cuz i dont remember the last time i had bad seeing but i also only had good seeing once
if I look straight up its not that bad tbh
i mean the map sorta makes sense
it shows you the sqm at zenith
for where i live the zenith is suprisingly not the darkest
Should I buy BlurX

2 naked eye comets (1 of which I saw only with binoculars) (a3 and 12p), many more photographically. all of this astro, solar eclipse, getting decent visual in. not to mention all the auroras
like jesus not even not doing anything all in november can do much
Definitely the fact that I was not imagining with my main rig has it's not completed it
10/10 just my equipment in general
My DSLR is far from being a bad camera but it just wasn't made for astrophotography, my lenses too aren't that good for ap. I still got cool results with them
Had so many imaging opportunities and only got two galaxy shots, Jupiter, and Moon
NINA and other softwares not working
Dum mount guiding
votes for all
Maybe start trying in irl comps

What is the most annoying/upsetting part of astrophotography?

I could probably squeeze Jupiter somewhere in there
And I would probably do coma cluster for the rest of the night
5th option: add more exposure time to the already existing panels

i live at 52 degress latitude
ok actually not a bad target
also the target has to be somewhere in this fov
Who is going to design a custom telescope part for you?

Design it yourself with CAD
If you were forced to choose (consider only astrophotography)

howd you make it show only galaxies and that bright? dso viewing settings?

thanks
Just uv/ir cut
huh lol
Oops

Just uv/ir cut, no nb
m82 like that is kinda boring tbh
Are you going to get broadband data along with nb?
after the full moon maybe
Oh o

QHYCCD
This poll will end after new year.
No way I didn't know that thanks so much man 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I love all of these, because they carried me through 3 star alignment in my early days
If I only have 1 night I'll image m42 bc that is the brightest. but if lets say hypothetically I have more clear nights to get something like 9+ hours I can do these other things too ig
flaming star is the highest in the sky together with the callifornia neb so that might be nice bc I have an airport in the east
b7 btw
Is this 533 and redcat 51
lmao so true
i used vega and hamal the most cause i got my first goto mount in the summer
For the last clear night, what should I do?

no a 300mm lens

what? its a real beasty, trust me
I was looking to recruit more https://discord.com/channels/794642864218439681/1315582651217739836
sorry
why are yall so hyped about the horsehead?
oke sure
I just expected more ppl to go for flaming star
the only problem for me is that orion is pretty low and over a fckn airport
Do i shoot m82 in nb for 5 hours?

Best catalog is the ARP catalog
LDN>
SDSS>>
Sdss being a survey...
if you didnt know sdss also catalogs objects
random quasar: SDSS J091822.42+194959.8
Ah nice
wow i digged into the sdss data further and its so rich in information
spectra of that quasar
Is that gen# a typo?
They are the same object. Alpha Microscopii .
There's no way he got us with that
ok damn i should have set this to like an hour
im doing it rn
plot twist: the images will all be from a low resolution radio survey

KIC 9832227 is my personal favorite. Not sure if it counts though.

quasars
idk why but i like going through spectroscopic data of random quasars
dis guy is clearly insane
Nah he got his priorities straight
If you think that lens is insane, what is bob then
a complete monstrosity
Quasars are red shifted and that is why you can tell them apart from background stars.
What on earth happened to the minutes?
where did he ask something?
as the star in my pfp is gamma orionis i am forces to say Rigel
What is your favorite type of star?

O type
Bro put exceptional for imx715
For the price and for its pixel size its exeptionally good
Is PGC the best catalog!?!?!?!
10
14
2
no
lower pixel size doesnt mean better sensor lol
i would say its the opposite
Im saying that its performing exeptionally well for such a pixel size
ah
lower pixelsize is more noise
should i waste 10 minutes of my life sending pictures of all the stars above in order?
13
15
1
yes
With enough data no
id assume that with the same exposure time, something with 1.5um pixels will have twice as much noise as something with 3um pixels
Bigger pixels less hair you got
what
uh no
I still disagree, you can get better for the price
the point of the camera is planetary without a barlow
Jokes on you I'll put a 5x Barlow with it
for example 662 will blow it out of the water
again, that's not a sensor I recommend for DSO, it's way too small. but still if you're going that small and you're spending that much, that is a much better value camera
smaller pixels aren't going to help you get more detail when you're already oversampled
they just hurt your signal at that point
@fallen token why is your camera sensor so bad. Show me example images.
It just has like wierd noise patterns even with dithering, good guiding, white fuzzy border, random colour
Also no ha as established
Dslr moment

It's more like "cheap dslr moment"
Mine is pretty decent. If I mod it it's gonna be really good but I'm not gonna do that as I have the ares-m already
Mine is old intermediate
brudda cant read
Bro thinks imx715 is 571🙏🙏

Almost got me
no.
didn't catch me bc I didn't notice it 😎
stupid problems require stupid solutions
It really depends what you're after
I really like the thought of the small sharp portable refractor that I don't have to collimate, but the only downside is that its optics are slow
Does it have a reducer
people keep saying 6" f4 newt just because it's fast and they don't think about the weight and maintenance factors
it does but I've heard rumors that the reducer's stars aren't the greatest so I'm a bit scared to get that
My opinion is like yours, newts are awesome but maintenance is boring. I can't imagine myself setting the mount up, doing PA, focusing, framing and then collimating several times a night. Refractors all the way, for me
well you still have to set up, PA, focus, and frame with a frac too
No shit!!
My point is collimating can go wrong, unlike the other steps
the frac reducer makes it go from f6.9 to f5.2. It seems great but there aren't many reviews/opinions about the reducer so I'm not sure about it
Look at images in astrobin
0.75x reducer right?
yeah
Wth literally 10 images with it
I don't have an astrobin account so I can't use image search filters 😕
My neither, look askar 71f reducer astrobin up on google
Stars look fine to me
Your field is gonna be quite big
With the reducer
360 something mm focal length
I'll put the specs into stellarium and look at some targets to see if I like the FOV
man I kinda like the FOV without the reducer
but f7 kinda slow
is f7 in bortle 4 that bad?
You are going to have to sacrifice something. I would sacrifice the narrower fov
Supposing you are finally going for the frac and not the newt
ig the maintenance would be more but it's barely anything on my 6" f/5
I'm always reading people in here complaining about collimating multiple times a night
if you want good images you should ideally be collimating or at least checking collimation every night
multiple times a night is crazy
that sounds like an issue with the scope not the fact it's a f/4
ik, i check collimation and my newt just doesn't go out
it holds pretty well
iirc the faster the scope the harder it is to collimate (I could be wrong)
it is yeah but i don't think the difference between an f/5 and f/4 should be multiple times a night vs pretty rare
it took a few months for my primary to lose collimation and 4 seconds to fix it
some scopes hold collimation better than others
the quattro is a good scope
I'm pretty sure it's the same optics just different brand
if it needs collimation multiple times a night then it sucks at holding collimation
i mean for maintenance
if it holds those optics in place better than its a better scope, the best scope is the one you want to use
Zenithstar 71
does it require a flattener?
the scope is discontinued
Oof
we infact do think about these, and the newtonian is better at everything but the size and weight
and you aint no weakling

the Quattro weighs like 6kg
if you can take your mount outside you can easily take the scope outside
and id be very concerned if you cant take your mount outside
it does get kinda annoying carrying my 40lb mount up a hill and a couple hundred feet out my lane
a 12lb or whatever the Quattro weighs is much easier
just do 2 trips
Does the "not color calibrate" option still allow you to manually adjust colors?
no
even then, bg extraction is vital to bringing out details. Easily not color calibrate.
so, would you rather keep the totally green image? like, exactly how it comes out of the stack?
for me, bg extraction usually takes care of the green for some reason
some of it at least
I pick not color calibrate just bc my DSLR is quite calibrated on its own
yes bc the alternative is pretty much no image
unlinked stretch
IT'S FORBIDDEN
why?
if you cant stretch the chanels seperatly, what is allowed?

Lmao nahhh
i mean I've seen and spoken to you every once in a while but i still don't really know u
yeah
Still got time to delete it
nah lol
O man, that’s tough! I haven’t been able to image seriously for about 6 weeks now… 😅 Thought we had it rough in the Netherlands right now…
Yeah, I thought there might be more options. But while making this poll, I thought more than a month is probably enough to cover that part. But apparently 1 month is quite “normal”, even though there are quite a few people with “4 weeks at most”. So still interesting to see.
What if I just buy one killer scope and still have money
I have made the decision, as of now that is not an option.
Hm, okay… should have added more options. 😅
Or rent… or go to local astronomy club…
Friend
how much is very poor
When someone tells u they want you dead two times, even as a joke, enemy can be an option.
But bob sometimes nice
So mildly negative
