#Making a set up (Many Questions) DSO

I have binos but thats about it
@obsidian heart yo I’m not in anyways an expert but I had around the same budget when I made my setup so maybe I can help you out
When I started I didn’t do enough research before buying gear
So it greatly exceeded my budget as I had to buy extra gear every time I realized I needed it
With that budget I’d recommend a small apochromatic refractor setup
Something like an svbony scope or a skywatcher scope
I can recommend you the skywatcher evostar 72ed
It’s quite a good scope for beginners
The scope is around 500 to 400 dollars so we have enough to get a good mount if you do choose this
The mount is the most important thing in the setup so it’s important you get a good mount
As a beginning a lot of people recommend to use the eqm-35 but with your budget I think you can get a better mount
I’m not sure what mount would be good but you can do the research
I’m pretty sure you have many options for a mount
Can even get a strain wave mount am3 or am5
Actually it might be over you budget a bit
But you can pretty much get any good eq mount
Maybe something like this mount Az eq 5

This is what I have that will run you about 1600 altogether comes with everything you need
This is basically my setup
Can I see some pics?
My mount is still in the mail
My scope is different
I bought the svbony and swapped it for skywatcher 72ed
Don’t mind this cursed pic
This is the only one I have at the moment
I haven’t taken my gear out in a while since bad weather
I’ll try set it up tomorrow and take a nice pic
I don’t have guiding system but that’s coming next
And then after that I’m getting a dedicated Astro camera
What one is better?
Svbony
But I didn’t know at the time
I might upgrade sooner or later
But there isn’t much of a difference
Same thing
Almost
what are the pros and cons of a imaging newt vs a refractor
Refractors are great for big dso imaging like andromeda becuase they have wider field of view
Most small apo refractors are really lightweight and portable
Very sharp and great for bright objects
And you don’t have collimate
And overall the best beginner for dso
And yk you shouldn’t really worry about the scope
Because the mount is the most important thing in a setup
Most people get newts as they progress and get better at the hobby
I think as a beginner a refracted or a camera and lens is the best
hows this sound

i noticed that refrectors are not as good at galaxys
so should i get a cheap f/5 6inch newt
and pair it with a eqm-35
my only worry is that it will take a long time/be complicated to set up the mount and be more expensive because coma, barlow ect
or i could get a mak

there
pls tell me its good
This is a pretty great setup but I still don’t recommend newts for beginners
Remove the Barlow
This one is one but not good for the scope it’s also manual and not goto

You also need tring
How does this sound?
You still need a t ring too
You could get this setup
Or the Newtonian
But you also need more stuff for the Newtonian @obsidian heart
And again I’m not a expert and you can still research on your own
You shouldn’t always take the word from a random guy on the internet

If you decide on a newt I’ll help you build the setup for the newt
i think i want a newt bacause of the better galaxy ap and aputure+the cost
Alright it’s up to you
But it’s not gonna be as cheap as you think
You’ll need more stuff than the things you’ve listed
if so i wanna know what i can see with diffrent aputures
Hey paint i really don’t know much about Newtonians
So I don’t have anything else to talk about really
how bout refractors
Refractors
These are images that were captured with the scope you chose the Newtonian
But they won’t look as good as this was captured with a dedicated Astro cam
And better mount and other factors
my biggest question
These ones were captured with refractors one small refractor and a big one
I think so yeah
Yea the whirlpool galaxy can be seen with both
Paint refractors can be better than Newtonians
See the veil nebula here in this picture it wa captured with a red cat a small refractor it’s very wide field making it a great telescope
There’s no better or worse when it comes to Newtonians and refractors but they both have different strengths
The telescope should be the least of your worries
You need a good mount
And decent camera to even come close to taking pictures like this
Good mount
nice

That is a decent scope really nice both options
also what is camera control
I have the skywatche 72ed so 8 know everything you need
This is more wide field
I’m pretty sure
But the 72mm would be more zoomed in
but its slower
It’s your choice which ever one you want both are decent
But I could help you a lot if you chose the skywatcher 72ed
f/5.9 vs f/6
The focal ratio of Sky-Watcher 72ed is 5.8
ima choose the Apertura 60mm FPL-53 Doublet APO Refractor for now becuase of the price and protability
what else should i get
Wait a second please be active in chat I’ll check becuase I’m not familiar with the scope

How about you invest in a asiair instead
ill check it out
If portability is your concern skywatcher 72ed is very lightweight and comes with a carry cas
Try the mini it’s very cheap
ok
The skywatcher 72ed gathers more light
And has a larger aperture
Plus you can find cheaper ones on eBay
ima choose the 60mm
Ok
I’ll make a list of things you’d need
I think you’d need a dove tail
A coma corrected and field flattener I’m pretty sure
I think you should try the apertura 72mm scope

This kit comes with the basics
It come with a field flattener
And below you can choose the vixen size dovetail bar
what is a feild flattener
It’s to correct curvature and distortion
ahh
It’s kinda necessary
and whats a dovetail
Which camera
This is the asi air mini
Oh ok
btw
Which camera though?
the cam is Rebel T3i

I wouldn’t get that I’d get the t3i a lot more resolution and a flip out screen and prob better snr
Yeah I meant to send rebel t3i but I sent the wrong one
or
it flat feild and it comes with adapter and 10 mm bigger
its not to expsive and fits within my budget
kinda heavy tho
with cam its like 6.7 lb
Mounts max payload is 11 pounds so it’s alright
This is perfect
But you need to get a t ring for this
ok so you dont need a camera or lens for now
