damn thats a sexy scope
it could be YOUR sexy scope 😉
haha im uk unfortunately
(also have horded too many scopes) but whoever gets it i shall be jealous of
what are you planning to upgrade too? kinda thought this was the end game of telescopes lol
i'm going to get a edgeHD and a hyperstar.
i want to end up doing all of my imaging with the edgeHD, Hyperstar, fat reducer from starizona and i should be set
it's gonna end up about twice the cost of this one, but i'll only have to futz with one scope
hell, if no one ends up buying it, i might save up for a zwo strainwave mount and run two setups
i'd like to think ill stick with newts forever lol
although i do have a nice meade 10" atm
i live in a very light polluted area and newts + light pollution = not getting what the scope is capable of
would that be much diffrent with the hyperstar?
i have an older one that i keep meaning to send to meade to get the image chain replaced
mines from 1988 lol thing of beauty
any reason why sct's are better?
not sure the exact year, but i have a picture
tbh i have no idea why but i've heard from multiple sources that SCTs are much better in high bortle areas
also there's the matter of only having to mess with one scope
that's a huge draw for me
i cant really think of any reason that would be lol
maube because they're usally more geard for planetary?
it should be the same right you're just folding the light a diffrent way
i just thought, maybe it has to do with the types of targets
like galaxies are usually brighter than the faint whisps of nebulas we try to capture
that's a sexy scope brother
yeah so im thinking that hyperstar would kinda negate that?
however when imaging at home, i can just throw on the reducer or not and image planetary/galaxy
from what i've seen it's just collimating after you switch back
i watched some installation videos, and to install a hyperstar, it's like 5 minutes
but when you put the secondary back in you have to recollimate (a process that's not hard on a newt, but seems daunting on an SCT)
if its the same way as collumating a normal sct it was easier than a newt for me
nice
you can do it with like no equipment to a decent degree
oh nm on the collimation
the cap for the hyperstar is designed to hold the secondary mirror and is indexed so when you reinsert it you don't have to collimate (i'll believe it when i see it, but hopefully it's close)
hmm thats cool if it works
i really like that they have a solution to keep your secondary safe
haha it is a silly looking thing
it really is, isn't it
have you got any pics you took with the newt?
yeah
second
uploading now
ive done a lot of mosaics with it
i really like doing those
damn i need to figure out mosiacs havent had enough clear nights to give it a proper go
i dont think ive produced like more than one good image this year
but gave me time to restore two big scopes so
that heart nebula was in january, actually i have a mosaic from that time too
heart and soul
the mega newt shall rise next year
oh nice
still not as fast as this hyyper newt though!
yeah im hyped for a fast one my 130pds is like f5 lol
is that a askars?
no a skywatcher 130pds its like a budget newt but you can mod the heck out of it lol
Someone Buy This Hyper Newt Its Really Hecking Cool
haha felt bad for spamming in you listing lol
you're good, i love talking about astro
i have to be careful or i won't get any work done today
haha i think everyone in here does lol
i'm just lucky i am on my lunch break
some guy had this and a 14" david hinds mirror in his garage for like 20 years lol
managed to score it for free lmao
damn that's great
i'm never that lucky
also i'm not skilled enough to refurb a scope either
as i learned with that meade 10"
has taken a helluva lot of work to get it to that point though it was 90% biological matter when i got it
hah it was a fun procrastination from my degree
watching a video of a guy cleaning the lenses on his SCT and that looks so friggin nerve wracking
lens and corrector plate
so the idiot who i bought the meade from freaking scrubbed a bunch of the coating off the inside of the corrector plate trying to clean it
im hoping i didnt do that lol
this guy seemed to have done a good job
The internal optics of my 8" Celestron SCT have been accumulating dirt for 10 years! It's time we clean it up.

theres one guy that cleans like a 14" meade and i just followed him lol
i use the shit out of those lens wipes myself
and he talks aobut letting the lens wipe dry slightly before using it and that's 100% true
i used a whole bag of cotton wool buds
if you use them fresh out of the little package they're too wet and they leave spots
i mean mine looks fine now i think loll
you can't leave me hangign without showing me how the scope looks after the cleaning
haha my sd card got corrupted waiting on a replacemnt lol
not sure what you can get from that
thats the only crappy pics i have lol
that first one looks so much better
satisfying to see a scope come back to life like that
my only dslr is my astromodded cam so
yeah got donated to me through the university
starting an astronomy society best financial decision i ever did lol
i've heard
seriously its insane some global warming is defo causing it
i lived in germany for a couple years in a small town on a small hill in the middle of a gigantic valley
talked to some older astronomers and they've said that its been getting worse year on year as they've aged
every time i'd crest the rim of the valley there would be a cloud directly over that town
that's how i see the UK
there really isnt many studies on the average cloud cover but surely with global warming it must have an effect on it
gonnna have permenant clouds soon lol
idk. Who the hell knows how the weather is gonna be effected.
i'll just take solice that i'm middle aged and by the time any of that stuff becomes truly noticeable i'll be dead
