Budget is 300 cdn. This is listed for 150.
Everything lol. I want to start into astrophotography and the wife wants to do visual of planets and nebulous and such.
Its just almost impossible to find info on it so I was not sure if it has junk mirrors in it or not. I did find out it was a hobby stores house brand that closed down in '22 in Toronto.
Well you can ask photos with the mirrors
You can ofc clean them and then colimate, but it is better to make sure that everything is good and not rusty or scratched
Then you'll have a problem
Wrong scope for imaging
you can't expect both from a dob
At your budget if you want to soley do AP look elsewhere and forget about visual
tbh 300 isn't realistic
For visual it is
Forget about imaging
Let me rephrase a little bit
If you want to spend your entire time tinkering and hacking 300 bucks will get you something albeit not a great scope for imaging
For visual you can get a great scope for 300
For visual you need a large scope
I realize that there is no beginner scope that can do it all. Just more curious if this scope is a steal at 150 or I am wasting my money.
I would get it. Just don't expect to take images
tbh idk if its worth it either
for 150 bucks you probably can't beat it
Learn the sky first with the dob
Get rid of the focuser too lol
put a new one on
I should rephrase a little on this too you CAN take images. Do I reccomend it not really
It would be more work than its worth lol
I personally don't know enough about the optics in that scope
Ive also have an eye on a AZ-EQ5 mount that so far is waaaayyyy under price. With that I can maybe start looking at a scope for imaging.
its a crapshoot but its 150 bucks
Not big enough for the dob
I would get a eq6r or larger
You usually want to oversize your mount by a large margin
I know.. I think 30lbs rating. But I was thinking of getting another scope at that point to put on it for imaging and have the dob for visual
Cut that in half :p
30 lb's is the visual rating
I would say not even 30
The mount is everything. There is a reason I use my 102 on a mount that can hold a c 14
Thanks for the advice/info.
