Not really the best image of not really talked about comet. Comet Olbers returns after nearly 70 years and its apparition is well... not the best. The comet lies about 2.2 AU from Earth and 1.4 AU from the Sun and it won't approach closer than 1.8 AU from Earth and will stay within 35 degrees from the Sun for the next months. Perihelion is the in end of June.

Comet Olbers is now the brightest comet in the sky, shining at around mag 8.5. It lies in the constellation of Auriga, not far from the flaming star nebula. In the photo a faint tail about 10 arcminutes long is visible.

Yesterday I went to a dark location with low western horizon. There was some moonlight and a breeze which the SA 2i didn't like.

Equipement used:

  • TS Optics 70mm f/6 with 0.8 reducer/flattener
  • SW SA 2i unguided
  • Olympus E-PL5

54x20s ISO 800 exposures
Edited with DSS and SIRIL

@gilded vessel I actually have a question about your mount. How does it handle with the scope? I have a similar weight scope

Finding your target manually is the most difficult task, especially if theren't any stars brighter than mag 6 to use for starhopping.

also why does the celestial equator make things different?

The objects along the equator are those with the larger apparent "velocity", moving the most degrees along the sky as the Earth spins.

Alright

I gave it a look and it is completely similar to mine, down to the collar. You would need a dovetail to mount it on the GTi
