#hall of shame
1 messages Β· Page 2 of 1
idk if it was just a better integration time π
i mean like a loooooooootof other factors
i took first one in jpg, took 10 frames, low on horizon over industrial lights, poor camera settings, i literally chucked that unedited orion in pix and did a bad dbe and called it a day
I assume u did not dither
i dont think like 3 hours untracked you can even go without dithering
i dont think its possible
lol
smh doesnt know what mount every person in the sever has
what mount do i have
no
mods ban me instantly
actually kinda
bc rn ig I'm untracked
Synscan decided to become even worse and now doesn't work at all instead of very rarely working before
i survive!
What mount are u having issues with?
virtuoso gti 150p
I'm hoping that Nina will fix it once I get a eqmod cable
If not then I have to buy a new mount
Yes dithered. (Duh)
Stacked in DSS
Damn thats very weird
That SHOULD not happen
I can give the data if you want to play with it
Did u use darks?
No
Thats the issue 1 million percent
How
I see hot pixels
This dataset is from September last year. I don't have the subs
Woah
The colors are great
Do u have any advice on how to get nicer colors
I struggle with coloring even with photometric color calibration
Its all abt intergration and exposure
colors come from processing
More exposure time and better processing
A newer image better processed
sadgons of ara
A shameful attempt at the black eye galaxy πππ
starwars blaster
VERY little planetary nebula (roughly the size of jupiter)
I hope visually, if not that would mean it's in our solar system lol
Yeah I would need a massive scope to see something the size of Jupiter from light years away
I don't even think it's possible for such small nebula to form
depends on your definition of nebula
a bunch of gas in space? great theres 4 near by
Since when is the moon surrounded by lasers, wtf
Poor moon leave her aloneπ
urm excuse me did you just misgender the moon βοΈπ€
How DARE you assume they/thems gender
their/theims*
i plead the 5th
Is this an American joke. Iβm too Australian to understand?
i ainβt american lil bro π
Never said you were
he alredy said tho XD
oh no its only austrailians that dont get it
everywhere else is fine
Bruh
i got that too
i get it moxxi is just a dingleberry
wtf would I need to know another countries commandments !!?
its engrained in pop culture
bros a dingleberry
Star cluster
I had so many hours to image and only got 36 min because of mount, wifi, nina, hand controller, and polar alignment screws issues. Also from deleting photos
As well as having to re-align my guidescope which is my only source of autocentering
says the one who joined friendlycosmos dumped his photos then dipped
Bro that server was boring

respectable have a noice day
Def my worst Images theyre from 2022 all between august and september
A few things cause it to be this bad one is the amount of dew i had on my secondary and second is the fact that my camera was runing at close to 30Β°C
*** H E L I X ***
Wdym this is badass
From left to right, top to bottom: a terrible image of Jupiter and one of its moons, a very clipped and horribly processed 5 second integration time image of the Orion Nebula, an even more clipped image of the Pleiades, and a piss poor attempt at capturing the Triangulum Galaxy (yes, it's actually there).
open it in full rez
And this is 8h, which is unacceptable.
Its so bad it wont even let you preview it
oh dear
hows it 93 mb
exactly.
this is sooo bad
Was there too dont worry...
XD true, for 4 hours of data though it was dissapointing at the time XD
lol mine is 3 hours π
ur glow up is crazy yea π this is ur mf process aswell bro
i am not fulfilled until i get that processing tut
Haha but its ur data tho!
my data in the wrong hands π
Bro ive had no time this summer π friends be crazy sometimes
fairss
I promise its coming though
yayyy
Tbh when i first started HOO processing, there was never really any idea what or how to do certain things. There is now so itll come out smoother and better than it wouldve IF i recorded it months ago
brother iβm in the dust my processed version of my data was absolute crap
Just gotta process for like 2 hours everyday for a year and a bit, then youll be there
low-key thinking abt it π
XD payed off greatly, but only if you actually enjoy processing
If youre like me, jamming to spotify and processing goes hella hard
The polar axis on my mount wasnt tightened up so half of my exposures were just startrails
heres a good one, close to exactly 1y between
The difference is, one is good and one is Wanwabi
oh yeah mb, i saw @forest fern 's image and confused this channel for #1034944406622584872
My bad
get outa here
Do i have your consent to put part time nina user in my username?
You do
look at the left one π
My incredibly blursed stars
Oh I wish I was there lol
WHole new setup, HEQ5 just out of optimization and Rowan kit installation, new L-Extreme filter and boooom, disappointment.
Seems you forgot the most important part... Dithering
looks like heavy gradients, forgot to dither and what can u using?
no flats aswell
dont blame your gear if you donβt know how to use it
That's not bad
My first attempt at jupiter and the orion nebula. These were both taken like two years ago
Can't wait for jupiter and orion to get high
New shatgons
the dragons of bad dbe
Never used it, never knew about it until this and asking my astro friends π₯²
I didn't blame my gear, I know I failed and I didn't know about dithering π
(that's the whole point of my gear, if there is an issue, it's on me, not on the gear)
Try it yourself maybe
i found my 13p olbers data! mp4 does not like deep sky objects, and i didnt dither once with a 5m video
had to use pipp lol
? That's so cool!
Its literally blurry miscalibrated garbage.
I got some lol
3 of these were actually taken a month or 2 ago
I improved massive with my latest one
Ok so yeah
Its in #π₯-widefield-milkyway-pics
amazing background extraction you got there
I dont think you all see the problems...
correct i dont
Same lmao but i still got a decent image
U saying his image isn't decent?π’
Bro still can't get the blues omg
Your image is trash JUST because u didn't get the blues
Other than that it's good
Not what i ment but now that i read i see how someone could interpret that as me saying his image is bad
I got around 4hrs of data.
At least you got more detail
Some how this is 30m
I mean its pretty bright for a dark nebula so no wonders
Also ur put of focus
Oh yeah
that was taken in b5. with stock and kit lens. a year ago... so i think otherwise
*violent coughing
ehh, well. far better than my best Pleiades, but I guess that's not saying much lol
doesn't look terrible!
Isnt pleiades also nicknamed the seven sisters or am i on a completely different topic π
the 70 sisters
I might do pleiades soon
Pffft this is great lmao
U gotta be british after saying that
I am, in fact, north american
I have never heard anybody exept somebody from the uk
saying what xd
Fair enough
This is my current best image of the Pleiades, taken with my phone and a monocular. 7.5 minutes of exposure time. It's uhhh... not great.
Oh god damnit
hold on
there
Niceeeee
it's really not all that good tbh, I may try to get a better shot of it with my Starblast since that can capture so much more light than a 56mm monocular
but until then this is the best I got
hopefully someday I can report back with improved results
certainly one of the astronomy photos of all time
Don't even ask
I fixed it
SDFJKLJSFDKLJFSKLDJ
This is why we calibrate EVERYTHING.
I did flats etc but I think there's dew forming on the glass on the sensor - sct open circle patterns characteristic of poor focus/dust on sensor
I'll have to investigate...
Stars would be blurred vs how they are sharp, definitely mis-calibration
Perhaps too short or too long exposure flats?
histogram configured @ 60% through NINA on flats
Would love to discuss further but unsure if this is the place - should I start a thread somewhere...
Here are some of the frames that I removed from the 60s exposures that were integrated and the pattern appears to match the smudge. I didn't see any others like it so it's a bit perplexing. I'm not quite sure how I'd calibrate out a persistent but low level dewing of the sensor if that's the way to deal with it
For about a year I though the star in the middle was Ξ³ Cassiopeiae... Today I run it through astronomy.net and found out that it is ΞΊ Cas... It explains a lot
craziest mw
Screenshot for everyone to see
What did u do to get that discord warning
that aint a warning i put it in about me
How?! Looks funny af

copy paste
Just a bit of Bortle art and Sky trailing ;->
After this I was full Astro "geek"
Hour of stacking and could not comprehend what I've found ;->
One of most important shots in my life π I keep it dual backup to remind we all start somewhere with the journey to the Stars Space π
This isnβt mine but what the hell π
someone found thor's astrophoto setup
A fool buys, a genius creates π₯
may or may not shot through clouds
seems like normal stars
but then you auto stretch...
whats wrong with this pic
gotta ask all who π© on it when i put it in deep space gallery
can you send the link to that chat?
i removed the data
the stars
the background
the sharpening
the etc
it was a 60 min test data set in poor seeing and the worst gain on camera ............
bro theyre perfect to meπ
nothings wrong with it
bro
literally the hall of shame has more images that look as good as I could never photograph than actual bad photos
i could legit put every photo i ever made in here and no one would question me
ima do that after I get my astrocam
(The astrocam images will still belong here)
found what appears to be my first ever deepspace pic, back from late 2017
do people seriously just spawn with a rig
cuz how are peopleβs first images not phone through eyepiece
first deep space pic
its totally possible to do deep space with a phone
i had an older camera that j used for a while for "deep space"
not very deep but still
well I didn't know lol, I pretty much didn't know anything back then lmao
ok but you could also not have the astronomy equivalent of slamming your head into a spike
idk if I even pointed my scope at anything deepspace before getting an EQ mount lol
I think I just ignored it (or rather was unaware) and focused on planets
the way I even ended up with a telescope was that Venus has been shining bright in the sky as I was returning from school every day, and I got curious whether you could see anything cooler than a dot with a scope and my parents decided to get me one after hearing me talk about it lmao
and the reason I ended up with an EQ mount was that in 2017 there was a star in orion with suspected GIGANTIC rings that would dim the star, and I wanted to image that - and people online told me I can't image stuff other than planets without an EQ mount lol
(I never ended up imaging that star and it ended up not being a thing as the dimming cycle didn't continue, but I was now introduced to the hobby)
should prob try to dig up what that star was and image it this orion season tbh, sounds like a fun idea
I mean it does feel like it was over denoised then sharpened to make up for it but it's not bad and the stars look fine
this is what my world looks like when my glasses are hella dirty lol
- streaks across the whole view ofc
damn i did ap with alt az for ages
but straight up looking at this confuses my brain in a "I gotta clean my glasses" way lmao
with the alt az
I, afaik thankfully, never had the 'joy' of using an alt az, just a dobson for the first year of owning a scope but I didn't even think of trying any AP other than iss and moon/sun/planets with it
yeah i got some decent images with my alt az, and i got extra points for using a terrible optic visual scope
@unkempt sparrow
I don't have a great context of how bad alt az is, but that looks really dope for that, the bottom one especially feels very crisp
yeah, it was blurxed quite heavily bcz i couldnt focus with the bad scope, but its not bad
alt az isnt bad, just the field rotation is annoying. Also alt az tend to be cheaper so struggle to get longer sub times
Tried imaging trifid nebula but forgot to setup my telescope and missed and took a picture of a random dog
Great image of a DSO (Dog Space Object)
Thanks
I hate when that happens
@past tapir all i got from that night with horrendous wind
ππ idk y itβs getting windy at night here
yeah, im clouded all week now. (maybe friday clear)
friday iβm clear, was meant to be tonight but some forcadts say yea and no but i ainβt risking it
this is my friday, met office cloud cover says different
mine, met office agrees but also says tonight is gonna be clear too
I am
I forgot to charge the camera and this was all I got before it unexpectedly died lol
sooo umm this was supposed to be my first ever andromeda attempt
xd
and the first time i had ever used DSS
helix?
Better than me i cant even get it in my fov ππ
Acc looks alright
old pic of m106 with a visual scope
π
why are you crying
coma made him cry
you can just image/observe a part of it, that's fine too!
I can only get the core and a lil bit round
same lol (pics from 2017/18, fits hall of shame too lol)
Lol
Yeah
It also doesn't help that its altitude was only 19Β° lol

old pics of mine xd
Abell 2218
Happens to the best of us
Dude all of these, except for the milky way, are better than my best images π
Yall underestimate the quality of yall's images
Not at all lol
Its just a peac of noise
That noise can be fixed, especially the orion one
No, it cant, theres barely any signal
Not much integration time yk xd
And the cam is a s s
After a while
Its the 600d, it was gud for the beginning, would be better modded but I cant nod the cam cuz the screws are worn out xd
U can get screw extractors
yep, but too lazy now xd
Lol
a quick autostretch showed me another image going here
i wonder what this banding on top is caused by
and also the stars at the bottom right
i guess its the old lens lol
how did I not know this channel existed
do yall not check #1019671488200196227 ??
I found this ap forum just now . HOW DID I MISS THIS π
Nahh, you could make it look descent at least. May need some cropping and processing it will be hell but I think you could totally get an alright image out of it.
Iβll try!
First picture of andromedaπ
It can only get better.
this dataset is shame worthy
Honestly not the worst ever, you don't see many image of the SMC anyway
LMC gets all the attention
stinky magellanic cloud
yea its pretty boring
Nah
Basically the SMC
Two galaxies pretending to be one
Smc posted on binstagram
why does that look cool
My first galaxy attempt from earlier this year. M101
What happened??π
My naive ass said "okay.. 6 minutes in b8 with 14mph winds seems alright. Time to stack without taking any calibration frames too"
β οΈ
Its not particularly bad
Was my first full disk shot
My old scope could only get like 70% sun
So itβs 2 images
My most recent
Looks the same as my most recent one because of light leak issues
what is it
lol i was trynna get the jupiter with my point and shoot cam
XD
Iβd recommend a tripod
lol
ofc its a need lol
I dont have a phone adapterπ
yes
shi wait i had this really good pic on astrobin
@storm leaf https://www.astrobin.com/619jfk/E/
this is with a 1 meter scope π€―
ok yeah that's pretty good
55 hours of integration in Ha...
what target is that
the noisy blob is PNG026.9+04.4
erm looking at the very interesting name im guessing its really dim so thats impressive
Gonna have to wait till I can go to more dark skies or send my scope to a remote place
it's stupid dim
My eagle neb and m101 π
graxpert please
I was planning on doing that once I got more data, but since it sets too early for me now, I might as well call it quits until next year.
welp when you do get to it good luck
Try stacking with out calibration frames see what happens
This was from January when I just started, there were no calibration frames here and just 5 minutes of data
I've made great progress tho, just posted my new dumbbell attempt
Tried getting an image of the North America Nebula with my setup, ended up being completely off target and for some reason the stacks didn't stack correctly, thereby tripling the amount of stars in the image.
But hey, I guess it looks kinda neat.
BeaverCactus belongs here cus he had a bad 5k run
What was ur setup
I had a 5k run and it went perfect, no walk breaks just pure running
Orion Starblast 114mm dob, and my iPhone 12π
oh, and AstroShader to do stacking (didn't set the alignment function correctly, probably why the stars duplicated and there's slight coma)
For me I had a nosebleed that didn't stop for 2 miles. I had such a good pace too
I always do pure running but I couldn't breathe
Oof, i stopped running at 4.70km beacuse when i touched my chest i couldnt breathe
Since for practice we run 4 miles+ nonstop it's not the stamina that got to me it was the lack of breathing lol
single cropped frame of jupiter - 1200mm FL was not enough π©
not bad for a single frame
two of my first astro images taken with an iphone se 3
and jupiter (first time seeing it too)
Its always the breathing or the legs start cramping up
yea... its uh... its certainly something
i remember the first time i saw it... it instills something within u
Dayum! Can't believe that that pleiades one is a single frame
yeah it for sure does
yeah i tried to get a βflat frameβ to mimic an astro cam. I took a few frames and stitched them together like a mosaic
My first attempt at narrowband galaxy imaging... bad...
Waste of photons tbh, guiding worked wonders, but the transparency and the moon, clouds and i set the gain too high this is shame worthy
i reckon a better process itβll be good
no clue on what went wrong
What software did you stack it in?
Autostakkert
It worked for the other 2 tiles
Stack by using pipp and autostakkert
I can fix him
pretty strong continuium
My first image of the Orion Nebula from 2020
My orion with canon 600d and 8" dob:D
Reprocessing my b9 crux region did not help it AT ALL
Discord compression makes it even worse
XDD
At least you wont have any chromatic aberration or any aberrations for that matter
best i could get
Yeah look at those stars they are perfect
Also astro mod your dslr if its not youll be able to get the same details in a 10m image compared to 3hrs on a unmodified camera
sadly cant i use the camera for other stuff too
Ok huge misconception that modding a camera ruins it for "other stuff" it doesn't unless it's full spectrum mod
Try telling that to my parents π
All it gonna do is add a red tint to it which can be easily removed in post
eh
bro went super nova just for you
How nice of the elephants trunk nebula
Also it will increase the resale value of the camera
It's true

Noise aint walking anymore, itβs running π
my words exactly in general
just differences in snr
the stars π
even that didnt help
Here's my failed C27
How does this even happen
My first image β οΈ
I thought i can get nice red color by just bumping the R slider in histo transform xD
This was also one of the early andromeda attempts, data maybe not that bad but shitty processing
i mean ur not wrong tbh
u are boosting the red channel
do not belong in hall of shame
itβs for images like this
yeah those two images above are not even close to being hall of shame lol, I don't even see much wrong with em honestly
get outta here
(hall of shame)
idk wtf happened here but jesus christ
ouch
And I was so proud of it
the last time I photographed andromeda, back in 2018
i guess it could have been worse given the 1 axis tracking I was using back then lol
wait I just realized, my notes say I took 45s exposures back then, my PA must have been golden that night lol (this was at 1200mm fl)
what does fl mean?
focal length :)
No way that's was ur first image π
I used to be very proud of this so yeahπ
rip
What's wrong with it
Just kinda a bad photo
Quite soft. Way too small The amount of noise I had to fix. And bad gradient
That was cropped
Don't see the problem with it being too small tbh
Itβs pretty low on the reasons
Expect me to be back in an hour ish
Shooting the ISS
Good luck
What would the optimal shutter speed for the iss be?
Idk
I use a planatary camera. It donβt use a shutter
Ah
Ok well exposure time then* same same really in ap
the one time i did iss jupiter exposure worked
Was just wondering as Id like to try capturing an iss pass over the moon sometime
in that case use whatever you use for the moon
Alr, ty!
What was the integration time?
3h
Doesnβt look too good for me
I really wanna get that pleiades nebulosity
3h is too much for my untracked phone
hey, my first image of andromeda looked a lot like this too
we all start somewhere, don't feel too bad about it π
trolling in chat
itβs lower with less perms so we donβt get trolls
that's crazy lol, didn't even know that was a role you could get here
oh ok
Beat mine
u sure that's not it's orbiting galaxy or smth lol
boo womp
is this walking noise?
usain bolt cant catch up with that noise
Just noise
nice flame
horribly failed andromeda
It was like 20x30s jpegs from my first dso experience (like 30 degrees above horizon)
Thought this was solar for like 20 seconds

oh hey i have one like that
nvm not one, like 5 π
I think the problem was it wasnt in focus
Also possibly that i shot it with my phone
there is no data in that though
something happened in the stack and that's how stretched it can get
it is screwed
not hall of shame worthy imho
get outta here
It sucks !tho
I don't think that's shame worthy either.
i was so proud of this orionπ
I had one like that
I was happy about it too. It was really cool to see that from a phone.
Wdym? This is great!
I was proud of this π
This image is considered alright
Great would be a 10 hour integration mosaic
Taken by me (self promo/I still need to improve
)
I need guiding nowwww
bro just needed an excuse to flex
Orion Nebula?
yes
you couldn't even tell it was orion? π
to be fair, I had just woken up when I sent that
omg is this the ISS??? I didn't even know it'd be possible
Yβall are glazing
Itβs not that good
If yall want.
Hereβs a fail
And another
Rosette nebula from last year
This is my best...
6inch sky watcher dob and phone
Exposure time, total integration time, app if you used one etc
this is a stack of 25 1sec exposures and i used astroshader
16000
Bortle
i live in b9
b10 does not exist
im in athens i thinks my light polution is worse
Wait
Paris is 0,5 mag/per arc secΒ² less
More!
Correction
*more
Still tho
bui live onn the 6th floor so im above some light polution so itss like b8-7
We are basically equal
Yeah I have a courtyard
What does Orion neb look like visually for you?
Mine is horrid
only slightly visisble
with the scope
I can see it naked eye
And w scope:
This is mine
Now that I think about it this probably wasn't in focus
need a phone adapter
Yeah it was when I didn't have one
lol my most recent one looked hella similar, I did have some success with catching it using a DSLR and a dob a few hears ago though but I haven't figured out the exposure settings on the planetary cam yet
it's so deep fried that I can't blame anyone for not knowing what it was

Why is this here it looks better than anything i managed to get
Bruh thats with out guiding what mount
hold on that orion neb is WITHOUT GUIDING????
because you've only gotten 8 minutes on orion while it was 15 degrees altitude with the moon out in bortle 9π
I dont think it was full moon
it was quarter
Also i dont mean the amount of nebulocity i mean how tight the stars are
because uv/ir cut filter
Nah i don't think it affects it that much
see
you don't think you need one
the only shameful thing here is that u still have not gotten a uv ir cut filter
Also talking of which
Yeah bad collimation
BlurX compensating for the focus being poor.
the galaxy itself
Ass? yeah.
please blurx my images im desperate
anyway here is my shitty process of the bubble, stars are looking bad for some reason
From memory this was during a full moon, stock dslr no filters in a full moon
Not bad tbh, nostalgic if anything.
I am not a free blurX provider unfortunately.
sir, this is the hall of shame forum channel
?
Cmon man
Im just saying that cause I havent been able to touch the processing rig in a bit.
Ok
So this is the worst picture that I made
No offence, but what is imaged in this picture?
Yea here you go
Tracker omegon LX4
Cam Canon eos 450D
Lens some 75mm
Bortle 3
Bad seeing
1 hour of exp time
What is the object?
Lagoon and trifid
no comment
what the
Am I tripping? I feel like I'm seeing multiple of the same thing.
how did you even do this
OOOrrriiiooonnn???
Seeing doesn't really matter at 75mm
i can tell its lagoon and trifid
bro how
were u at like f30 or smth
Why f30 lmao
bro heβs in bortle 3
And?
Wat does the focalratio hav to do with dat
Ooooo dis is how u mean it:D
bro mustβve been collecting 1 photon at a time
Xdddd
π
lmc gets that high for you!?!?!??!? bruh i would commit mass attrocities for that
like pizza on pineapple (not to be confused with pineapple on pizza)
nah this was my first holiday in NZ
thought u were aussie too
vic
i is
i'm so sorry for your loss
which stat
nsw
coastal or inland
coastal good tho
yeah
yeah + no speed limit
thats where i wanna learn how to drive, 200kmh on a degraded road with kangaroos on standby to end my whole career
who doesnt like cats eye nebula though
isnt national limit 110?
all the outback roads ive driven are max 110
usually 100
Idk I had a no speed limit in a place called tingah
Not outback but i thought they would have some there too
this data is unstackable lmfao
Take flats guys
Mm--5511
my first orion picπ
What galaxy is that
whirlpool
I ""stacked"" it
that's not a crop btw that's the full frame, and because of that DSS and Siril just ain't having it
i cant even find m51 with my fov π
i havent done any dsos with my new cam since its just too small for me to find dsos without platesolving
i need to buy sharpcap pro
oh honestly finding it was a pain and I STILL think I got super lucky targetting it lol, that was my 2nd night out with a telescope in years and first time ever with an FOV that narrow
like 2 weeks ago or smth i tried to find m81
couldnt
i have goto but
my mount is so bad i might aswell not have it
have you using it with a laptop? goto a position, platesolve the image to know where you ended up, sync the position to the mount, goto your target again after the sync
i do use it with a laptop since i literally cant use it with a phone
app broken
i had to buy a eqmod cable to stop doing untracked
ye, definitely try the "go to target, platesolve where you ended up, sync, goto target again" thing
how do i platesolve though without sharpcap pro or nina
nina didnt work i tried
and astrometry.net always fails
can you send an example image you were feeding it?
dont have any rn
hmm
honestly astrometry.net can take like 30 mins sometimes, but I found it super resilient in resolving even some super weird stuff so
also how would i sync to the mount
well it depends on your setup, but the way I do it after connecting the mount to the software I just input the coordinates in AstrophotographyTool and press sync
wdym after connecting the mount to the software
and i dont know what astrophotographytool is π
it's something like nina but different (I'm not familiar with nina though unfortunately)
i have to use the synscan pro app
because nina didnt work when i tried to get it working
i think with the mount i have rn synscan pro app is the only choice i have
ill get a new mount eventually

I have no clue π€£
I stacked it and brought it into siril and was so confused lmao
LMAO
woaaaa
DITHERING HAS LEFT THE CHAT
But its such good data too
Im dissapointed that i did not set uo guiding
that looks faint
that was a 1sec picture if i remember
deep sky stacker?
Ye
Knew it
My Saturn image
Nahhhhh
Only green channel π idk
might still be salvageable, as long as the data is still somewhat ok
I think it is salvageable, the core had no evidence of walking noise
I might be able to get around it by checking out a non drizzled version of the image too, or by changing the drizzle method.
I was forced into a predicament where I had to compromise on # of exposures before dither and exposure time, ended up not picking few enough exposures out of fear that my mount may not behave after dithering. Take forever to recover.
ok that one was cooked
I tried gradient removal and it made things worse
So i decided to restack and delete every 5th and sixth sub between dithers, that way i eliminate the walking noise, it worked

'Ery Noice
This is pure shame, clouds came in at 3 am ruined my guiding while i was asleep. It started raining while i was asleep soaked my whole gear but at least got 3hrs of data on the crescent, and i set the damn dither way to far
You sure thats 3hrs cause it looks identical to my one and my one is 20m
ive got quite a few bad images to share
i dont think these images have seen the light of day in 3 years
Yes im sure, imma try stacking it again to see what its it going to look like
looks alright (not sure if it's the data) but most of that looks like processing issues
wasnt the data
all i did was stack it and it came out like that
i fixed it tho
yeah all of my stacks come out weird colors
this one was because i didnt dither enough

me trying to draw jupiter from memory:
Seems like you used a light pollution filter
Thats how 1.5hrs look like for me
dawg wtf happened here π
everything that could have happened, happened
i watched it live aswell
I donβt even know what this is but itβs bad
Nope no filter b9 full moon
out of focus?
i wanna say venus
I think bro is out of focus by 10 metres
Nah bro stacking bad and not much details 16,5min total exposure
That's a black hole
Funnily enough, because of the way the spherical aberration in the image lines up with the dark area, it actually kinda does look like a black hole, complete with gravitational lensing of background stars.
Holy mother of resolution, there's 5 stars in the trapezium
Probably
I hope π€
I count 7.
8, sorry.
Thats way clearer.
Btw, don't shoot me, I went ahead and got the RC6 for the time being.
That sounds just fine to me.
It's actually cheaper than my refractor and I will 100% get better results.
I'm really excited.
enjoy :]
Oh and it's lighter so my mount will be happier

I'll save up and then sell up to the 8 when I'm ready.
I can get the 0.67x reducer since it works for both the 6 and 8
Dumbbell in ha
Ok what the actual fck happened
Is this field rotation?
Itβs not star trail bc of too long exposures bc this is a stack of 105x500ms taken with my untracked 6β dob and phone
Man what the flock did you do.
I'd like to add a piece to this thread. I think this could be one of the most important threads of all time. Simply because we all share our mishaps and lows, showcasing how this is a hobby of constant learning and evolving π
My first ever astrophoto, manually timed the exposures with my watch and a shutter release cable. Using a C6 sct at prime focus 1500mm on a wonky cg5gt mount using an old Sony A300 dslr. Forget about calibration frames and guiding π
But this image made me jump down the rabbit hole so I kept it as a reminder of were I started out π
I flocking sharpened this to it's own demise, then the stars became triangular
Maybe pinched optics
Maybe
Which galaxy is this?
caldwell 30
NGC-7331, the "Deer" of the Deer Lick Group.
Something is up here....π€π§π΅οΈββοΈ
The Orion Fart Cloud
IR assigned to R, R to G, and G+B combined into B
did you get nerd?
are you using a planetary IR pass filter or something fancier?
Baader 685+ 2", I'm going up to a Sloan I' soon
yes
Yippee
Lmao
Lmao
Lmao
Lmao
throwback to my untracked days
I fried it :(
though quite unideal conditions and first time stacking mw landscape so I'm less disappointed than I probably should be
this I found in my lunar eclipse photos
the one on the right is a reference to show what it should've looked like around then
not the smartest idea to shoot in a full moon and twilight
I dont even know why the lines appeared
banding alert
is it because I shot in JPEG or a different issue?
I was shooting a canyon a little bit back and didnt remember to switch back to RAW
in all the time i've shot in JPEG a while back, it's never given me banding this bad, although I never shot under 2" exposures
likely
i would shoot raw always
any time i shot with jpeg it came out really bad
fair, I also was untracked so my exposures were short
pleades
ok
...
β¦ but it looks cool with the galaxy
the reflection from the phone is so funny lmao
Ngl thats still impressive
The reason why its called whirpool galaxy
Looks like the lagoon nebula

looks like someone dragged the orion nebula to the side while u were taking the pic
Is that Seestar with spikes π
my bad
Are those fake diffraction spikes???
no I used a spike mask
Stretch them separately
What do you mean
starnet or starexterminator out the stars, then stretch the stars and the rest separately and combine the two back together
I understand now but where combine the two together?
in siril there is a recomposition option under star processing π
Ahh thanks
euh
fixed it lets go
whats this dawg
appears to be the Pleiades
A lot better but the moon washed out the details and the backround a bit
no comment
How is this hall of shame worthy?
I dont know if you can call this an image necessarily, but this is what happens when DSS is angry.
processing my friend
How do you let this happen
Looks good to me
I have no idea, restacked it with the exact same settings and it worked perfectly when I did that stack, so just some weirdness I guess
dont use dss
use siril
