that 1500 dmg is from us being so strong atp, us only having 18 atk doesn't matter bc of other bs
when you fight spamton in weird route you're not nearly as strong, an x slash only lands ~500 dmg, and a perfectly timed normal slash only does about 200, though this is still a fair chunk of his hp
and whether spamton has a chance also depends on which game's battle style they're fighting in, undyne may be slightly restricted in attacks if gaining tp is a problem, and spamton can also just heal with pipis when needed (also why you can't get him below 6% hp with normal attacks), and since its presumed undyne doesn't have any healing items (seeing as if she did she would probably use them), all spamton would need to do is deal enough damage before he has to start using up turns healing with pipis
that aside,
spamton actually deals more damage per hit than undyne, 47 as opposed to undynes 9 damage in her geno fight
keep in mind at both of their respective fights we and kris both have 2 defence
and spamton's defence is negative in his snowgrave fight (though its still 0 before he activates his bluelight special)
