Question. This is such a bright target. The OP did 54 240s exposures.. I have an asi585mc, should I saturate the pixels and expose long or take many short, say 15 or 30 second exposures?

#

I have the same scope with its .85x reducer.

I didnt think I had shot M45 with my 585, but I do. This was with my AT80EDT at .8x (385mm, f4.8, 300seconds) this is my histogram.

#

at f3.45 I'd be putting 1.94x on the sensor.. but I still need to calculate out the increase in FL to subtrack that out..

#

the stars blow up

#

my 533mm and the AT80EDT at 30 seconds

#

I want to shoot M45 next good night, I just want to make sure I'm taking the right approach

Well uhh, mine didnt blow up this much, but making it clipped that far will make even small stars look bloated, and in the pleiades i think it looks very unnatural to have the big stars small 😅 if it was me id just shoot as long exposures as possible, and if you really want those small stars, shoot like 20-30 minutes with 1m or 30 subs to get a star image, if you dont have a UV/IR cut filter thatd explain the bloating alot more because the 585s sensitivity is crazy in the NIR

aww, your probly right about not having the uv/ir filter! I do now!

Yeah id definitely say thats fine, the sub length here could be pushed so much further before any "significant" bloating would occur

the 533mm L channel is through a uv/ir filter and I'm building my SWQ and the 585mc with a 5 filter wheel. UV/IR, DuoBand Ha Oiii and IR pass 650.

#

I'm really looking forward to shooting with that scope again. my CEM26 couldnt cope with it, and it was very frustrating to not be able to poin the camera down to balance the scope/mount.

#

I got an AM5 and now I'm so very happy 😄

#

it guides sub 1.0 in wind! 😄

Very nice photo BTW! 🙂 inspirational
