odd that it matches with the comets path but hey, also pretty cool to catch
tbh im not convinced yet
Iβm 100% convinced
Even in the unlikely case that was part of itβs tail, The comet itself has not reappeared when it should have
please let me cope just more lol
NO
Iβm specially trying to cope
When I organised a trip to La Palma specifically for this comet
you wanted to get pictures like the southern hemisphere people got last year
C/2024 G3
oh god
Kinda
But screw that weak ass rock
Iβm still going

La Palma is sick anyway
does it taste yummy
100%
I mean it did have the same velocity as the comet as it emerged so i was coping
That thing i showed 2 hours ago is consistent with the comets orbital plane, super interesting
that thing is probably the tail
it really does not look like a cme and lovejoy did the same thign
It would make perfectly sense
Also not great with all the dust storms
nah its gone, the residual tail seems to have contained either some tiny fragments or something else
I need a big one βοΈ
its 5th mag rn and the highest it'll get so arguably the best time is now
at least for imaging
it still sits fairly high in pegasus, yeah
Super hard for me to get it, it's so low, I have about 15m of imaging time.
i actually have a pretty good viewing window i cba staying up
Magnitude 4.7 currently
Beauty
2 locations where I could go
I'm thinking mountain peak. Gets me out of the valley and up above everything. Been there a few times. Works out pretty well.
whichever one has that clearing in the northeast will work
This is all towards the east and which one are you talking about? I was thinking about the left one
i see, is this for a composite landscape or just a place to put a larger scope (i dont remember your rig) (also it was for neither i didnt know if one or both were pointed east)
Yikes I gotta start driving out to capture the damn comet
Doesn't rise high enough to clear my hours before sun gets too bright
And both towards the east
id argue for the one with the darker sky bc neither are that interesting as a landscape
They are both really close to each other, I should've used those young trees as reference and this is both B4
You can match the treeline in the background
I could also go 100% safe and go up on a observation platform that brings me a additional 60m above sea level
Hi all. Any thoughts on Comet C/1861 G1 (Thatcher)???
whatever source is showing that as anything is mistaken
I hope they don't mean being able to see it π probably more related to the upcoming lyrid meteor shower it created
Just wanted to point out that C/2025 R3 is visible in CCOR1/SOHO imagery if anyone is curious
also a M-class flare going on currently
interesting photo opp for southeners in the next few days
(PUNCH spacecraft data)
@hoary basin you should image this
π
Clouds
ha
L North
Haha clouds π
Accurate
Reading about Comet 10P/Tempel. Looks to be the bright comet of June, July, and August 2026. Might reach 8 mag visually.
id say mag 8 is all but garenteed tbh, approach in the 80s was similar and it got to 8th
seen a new comet pop up that has perihelion on 11th November 2028 that apparently gets decently bright but its really only a southern hemisphere exclusive cause of the orbit
C/2026 C1 (Tsuchinsan)
yea it's at its brightest in PAVO of all places
i don't even have a CHANCE of seeing it
NERF THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE
hey at least they dont have 12hr+ Orion
they have more of the orion complex than i do
Yes, they do.
Not while the solstice in the Taurus/Gemini border, but Orion is about as far north as it'll ever be when accounting for Earth's precession
So in the past 20,000+ years it was true on average
Ban every southerns
fr they have the milky way core, carina/vela, 75% of all comets for some reason, and like almost everything else
sure we have andromeda but like
they have the magellanic clouds
At least we have Cygnus and Auriga
we have thusnelda once every few years too
bless you
Yeah but Cygnus is nerfed compared to Carina
Our view of Carina is on the leading edge of the Milky Way where all the star forming regions are
Carina is such a chonker of a H-II region
Our view of Cygnus is on the trailing edge which is clouded out by the dust of dying red giants
we also have cassiopeia, which is giga underrated

(neither are minr) looks quite bright, no idea how long this will last so get it like today!
apparently its magnitude 8?!?!
which guy is that?
I feel like this is a error
what makes you say that?
idk it hasnt been observed too much
that 8th mag number comes from photometry off this image
to be fair it only got announced yesterday in a single email on a comets mailing list
so theres not that wide of a net
I'd love to see people giving it more attention so we can actually get more data points
so I would wait until like friday or something
This mag jump surely will grab some attention
idk it does stand out
to be fair I also didnt say it was wrong, it just really stands out
well the comet has certainly gotten much brighter
theres very few ways to confuse an 8th-11th mag comet for a 18th one
anyways next up should be 10P and 24P
Where even is it located rn?
220P?
yes
ahh π not visible for me
another 8.2nd mag report

ill be up until 5 i could probably catch a few frames (30mm aperture)
30 second sub
A lot of increase in magnitude. Is the comet fumin or something?
never been observed on this guy before so I think its a little little odd
@lavish lark hell it even got a subtle ion tail
*not mine
hmm hopefully it is still bright in august.
it would sit so much nicer as well
Yeah that'd be around 30 degrees alt. Pretty ok
going to sit in Taurus which is really great for me
Thats gonna be purrrfect
