#Zwo Asi533mc pro or Player One Ares-C Pro (imx533)

if you plan to ever use an asiair computer to run your equipment you will have to have a zwo camera
I decided on the Ares-C pro due as it seemed to me from a the reviews the Player one product being more recent was able to make more from the imx533 sensor. Also the build quality and weight seem better.
Is that really teh case? How is their quality, and what if something is wrong with it?
How is player one support?
Had not seen this sorry, build quality looks and feel top notch. I havent had any issues but I would go through the reseller route if I did have an issue. The Player One website provides extensive information so I suspect the provide technical support aswell.
P1 support vary good only problem I had was a shipment error fixed same day I sent a email, other than that build quality is vary good and manual and drivers on the website easily to find and download, but personally I rather use my mini pc than the asiair
I have the Ares C pro and absolutely love it. Might buy the mono version next with filters
Why miniPC rather than ASIair?
Cuz asi air sucks π
Both cameras are good, Playerone is newer, ZWO is more compatible.
Ended up going with the ares c pro and uranus C for guiding (OAG) .
Loving it. Just not the cloudy nights.
π it is pretty useful for beginners ^^ when you say miniPC you mean rasberryPi ?
Absolutely, but when beginners start to use better gear, they are stuck with ASI AIR knowledge. Youβre quite limited with it
Mini PC is a small PC. Similar to laptop, but without a screen and a keyboard.
I have a small format Dell PC. Works a charm. Runs windows 10 and AnyDesk so I can control from phone, or another PC inside
Oh I see like melee3 ?
For example yes
I went with an R-Pi with Astroberry+Ekos, and it was awesome. I also use a regular Windows laptop with NINA which is also awesome.
The only limitation with R-Pi and sharpcap I ran into is that I can't do planetary on it due to video frame rate limitations. It's not fast enough to receive the video frame rate, so I had to use the Windows laptop. But for DSO it's nice, and so is NINA on Windows.
I seen a lot of setups and walkthroughs with the ASI AIR and I'm very happy I didn't learn that first and trap myself with that shady vendor.
Can you give examples where you found that ZWO was shady in your experience ?
It's easy to find. Open source / GNU license violations, anti-competitive practices (Highpoint, Agena, etc not allowed to sell PlayerOne cameras, etc.), lock-in for ASI Air, using older cheaper tech in cameras where competitors use newer tech, etc.. There's a lot about it on Cloudynights and indilib forums.
I'm not saying their products are bad. They are good, obviously.
Player One is new enough too that they need to be on point. Emailing them often results in the CEO responding. I've been allowed to set up a semi official Instagram account for them etc just by offering to help
